Ulfr had been traveling for quite a while, and decided to take a detour to Norwood Village. There was a particular weretiger he was hoping to catch up with. He had met her once, but it had been a friendly enough encounter. But, he was tired, and didn't feel like hunting to get a meal. That was his main reason for stopping in. Walking through town, he waved at a few passerbys. Friendly enough place, even if he was human. They were probably wondering what the heck he was doing here. Oh well. As he entered the inn, he saw the same innkeeper from the last time he was here. He waved and smiled, and received both in response. 'Well, if it isn't the wolf who drinks water! How have you been and what would you like?" "Ahaha! Been a while hasn't it? I've been great, can't complain, you? Could you get me a glass of milk this time, and a rare steak, with boiled potatoes and carrots? "Business has been steady, food is in my belly! Your food will be ready in a few minutes, just go sit over there and I'll have Lila bring it too you." "Thanks Kayden," Ulfr replied, and headed to the the booth on the left wall. Starting from the the wall with the door to the bar, this was the second booth. He sat and sighed, glad to be off his feet. |

A pinprick of light shone through the inky darkness. It grew and grew until her vision was completely engrossed with the light. Her eyes flickered and her vision cleared. She was laying in her bed in her house in Norwood. Her hands caressed the down sheets as she thought about what she ought to do today. Well, I can't go about my day hungry now can I? she thought as she sat up to get out of the bed. As she went about her morning routine of a shower, dressing, and day planning, she wondered where she would get some food. She remembered she only had a couple apples and some cheese in the icebox. She decided on eating an apple and cheese for breakfast then getting out to the inn diner for lunch. She walked out the door about midday, coin pouch on her belt that fit snug around her waist. She turned her path toward the inn and smiled at the thought of diving in to a lunch of leafy greens and veggies. She could almost feel the crunch of the lettuce as she bit down on a bite. She hurried her pace and was there within ten minutes. When she walked in, she noticed that the diner was quite empty for this time of day. Only one or two booths were occupied. One that was near the door held a stranger that she had never seen before. She shrugged and walked over to the counter. She said hello to some of her friends that worked here and then had a seat at the table nearest the occupied booth. You see, she was naturally curious and wanted ever so bad to learn who this stranger was and why he had stopped here in Norwood. Lila, one of her childhood friends that made a living working here, brought him a plate with what looked to be steak and potatoes. She cringed inside, for she herself was a vegetarian. When Lila walked by again, she came up short. Well hey! Long time, no see, girl. Whatcha been up to lately? she said with a kind smile. She smiled politely back and said I know! I've been traveling lately actually. Just felt like it was time for me to explore the wild world of Imythess. she chuckled. But what I really came here for today was a good fresh salad. If you could get that for me that would be great. she said with sincere gratefulness in her voice. Lila smiled again and said Sure! I'd be glad to. Be right back. Only the freshest veggies for my friend. and she scurried off toward the kitchen. This gave her time to glance over at the stranger. Hopefully he wouldn't be a stranger much longer. Ainsley hoped he didn't see her and think she was some kind of stalker. Sometimes being curious got her into trouble. |

Just as Lila brought Ulfr his lunch, an elf entered the inn. She went to the counter, but soon walked to a table that was argueably the closest to his booth. The smell of the food wafted up and reached his nostrils; occupied by the allure of the food, he only caught bits and pieces of her conversation with the waitress. Something about a salad. Bleh. He had to have his meat. Picking up his knife and fork, he cut off a piece, and placed it in his watering mouth. Scrumptious. As he was chewing, he noticed Lila walk away towards the kitchen. Meanwhile, the other elf just sat at the table. He could swear she was eyeing him. He swallowed and sighed. Ah, that's delicious. But it's missing something. Hmm. Not much you could add. Except maybe good company with a good meal. he said, loud enough for the elf to hear. Hopefully his invintation would not be overlooked, as he wasn't just talking to hear himself. While wondering how long it would be before she acted on his statement, he glanced out the window just as Lila bustled out of the Kitchen and asked what the elf wanted to drink, and if she desired any dressing for her salad. Lila also mentioned some buttered rolls. There was storm clouds collecting on the horizon of the sky, and Ulfr guessed they would be here in an hour or so. He wished it would be sooner. He loved the rain. |

As she occasionally (meaning every 10 seconds) glanced over at the stranger, she wondered how in the world he could eat meat. Does he ever think about what that animal had to go through just so he could have a steak? she thought with disgust, but as usual, Ainsley would not judge someone until she got to know them. When the stranger ate a bite he said aloud Ah, that's delicious. But it's missing something. Hmm. Not much you could add. Except maybe good company with a good meal. Ainsley wondered what he could mean by that. Surely he hadn't seen her eyeing him and was addressing her indirectly. As if on key, Lila came back out and asked her for her drink order. She asked for a glass of water and no dressing on her salad. She liked it plain. But buttered rolls would be very delicious. She thought that her stranger would probably like some rolls too. She got up her resolve and courage. She got up from her table and walked over to the booth. Hey there. I'm Ainsley. You must be new here in Norwood 'cuz I've never seen you before. What brings you here today? she smiled at the stranger and wondered if he would invite her to sit down. She also hoped she didn't look stupid standing here, or worse he thought she was a stalker. Of course she wasn't! Just a little curious. Okay, a lot curious. ((OCC: Sorry so short /OCC)) |

She ordered water, no salad, and agreed to the rolls. Every few seconds, the elf kept glancing at him. However, she soon stood and introduced herself as Ainsley. She asked if he was new to Norwood, and what had brought him here today. "The name's Ulfr; it's a pleasure Ainsley. And no, I'm not technically new to Norwood, but I could still be considered a stranger. I was here once before, about a year ago. I met an elf by the name of Fara're, and since I was hungry, I decided to stop in and see if there was a chance to catch up a bit, as I already have with the innkeeper." As she was just standing there, he decided it would be impolite to not invite her to sit, so he got up and grabbed her plate off of her table as he said "Please, sit. I noticed you glancing at me, and it was amusing. And my comment was directed towards you. So please, sit, I insist." Just as he was placing her plate on his table, Lila came out of the kitchen with Ainsley's water and the rolls. She gave her friend a raised eyebrow at the site of her standing with Ulfr. He almost laughed at the sight of the expression. An amused grin spread across his face. ((OCC:Don't worry about it, like I said in the pm, I just want to make some gold. I'll ask you to forgive me as well if my posts seem to be a bit short. /OCC)) |

The stranger introduced himself as Ulfr. Such a strange name. He said he had visited Norwood about a year ago and was friends with one of the elves here. She didn't recognize the name of his elven friend. She might have to look into that. She was still standing beside his table when he stood up and seemed to walk off. Her heart dropped for a second before she realized that he was only walking over to her table. Is he going to sit there? she thought. As if in answer, he picked up her plate, which must have arrived while she was introducing herself, and came back to the booth. He insisted that she sit with him and said that his earlier comment was directed at her. She was sure that her cheeks were turning a light shade of crimson. About that time, Lila came out of the kitchen with the buttered rolls she had ordered. When she noticed that Ainsley was talking with Ulfr, her already perfectly-arched eyebrow rose a tad as if in question. Really? I didn't see that coming. her expression seemed to ask. Beside her, Ulfr seemed to find the look amusing. She could tell he was trying not to laugh, but letting a smile cross his face instead. Ainsley let out a nervous chuckle and slid into the booth opposite Ulfr. The seat barely dented when she sat, for she was so light. Lila made it all the way to the table and set the basket down. So... Do y'all know each other? Or have you just met? Lila asked, the question directed to nobody in particular. Ainsley decided to take the responsibility of answering it. We just met, Lila. Just thought I'd get to know him. He seems like a nice guy, don't you think? And you know how I like to know everything and everyone. She laughed. Okay. Well you too have fun and let me know if you need anything, okay? Lila said before turning to leave. Ainsley turned to face Ulfr and smiled. Her eyes lit up when she smiled. They always did that when her curiosity was quenched. She moved her hand to pick up her fork. The salad before her was practically calling for her to dive in. So, tell me a little bit about yourself, since I'm supposed to be "getting to know you". She smiled again. This Ulfr character seemed to bring that out in her. She felt completely safe and at home talking to him, even though they had only met moments ago. |

Ainsley made the comment that Ulfr had seemed like a nice guy, and thought she would get to know him, since she had to everything about everything and everyone. This amused Ulfr more. As he was about to take another delicious bite out of the steak, Ainsley asked Ulfr to tell her about himself, as she was supposed to be getting to know him. He laughed. Me? Hmm, let's see... He trailed off as he tried to think of something to discuss, and placing said bite of steak in his mouth. Something that would definitely catch anyone's attention. Thinking carefully, he thought he should start at the beginning. He finished chewing before continueing. Looking at her with a mischevious look, he said "I was raised by wolves until I was sixteen." Raising an eyebrow at her, waiting for the response, he took a swig of his milk. He stabbed several carrots and potatoes onto his fork, as they were cut into pieces, and ate them. Glancing out the window, he noticed the storm clouds were getting closer. Perhaps they would arrive before he left. He hoped they would. |

When Ainsley asked Ulfr to tell her a little about himself, the man chuckled, like the request was some kind of joke. Maybe to him it was? But she just sat there with wide questioning eyes, waiting for him to answer her. When his mouth finally opened he said Me? Hmmm...let's see. He seemed to be trying to pick through his life to find something worth talking about. She didn't really care. She just wanted to get to know him. While he thought, he plopped a cut piece of steak into his mouth and started to chew it. Her face altered slightly to show her disapproval, but tried to keep her eyes on him in politeness. She watched his throat expand to let the bite go down to meet his stomach and his mouth parted. He was about to say something. I was raised by wolves until I was sixteen. The statement rolled off his tongue as if it were completely true. No waver in his voice to discern it as a lie, just a little mischievous look in her direction. He was waiting to see (or hear) her reaction. To tell the truth, it hadn't really sunken in just yet. She noticed that he had glanced outside the window beside the booth a couple times while he had sat there. She wondered why. She made a mental note to glance outside herself in the near future, just to see what was so interesting out there. Then, it hit her like a ton of bricks. She gasped and her eyes flew wide. She raised her palm up to her gaping mouth as fast as she could. She didn't wanna offend him by not believing in his upbringing. But she couldn't just let him stop there. Are you serious?! That's so cool! But why? Where are your parents? If you don't mind me asking, of course. Her question could be seen as intrusive by certain people. But many would excuse it because of her look of innocent curiosity. She hoped he was the latter. |

For a minute he thought that she wasn't going to react at all, but it soon came. When it did, he busted out laughing. It was all he could do not to fall out in the floor from it. As he returned to composure, he had to wipe a tear from his eye from laughing so hard. "Are you serious?! That's so cool! But why? Where are your parents? If you don't mind me asking, of course. " "Why? Well, my parents were killed by bandits. An entire horde of them at that. A passing wolf pack came by, attracted by my mother's scent. Her name was Veronica. The wolves killed the remaining bandits, and took me in as their own. At sixteen, I ventured out of the pack to see what else there was. I wanted to know about people, about humans specifically. I was soon outcasted, but I've made a place to rest my paws about a year ago. The people there love me." He waited again to see what her reaction would be, and for any more questions might spew from her. It was amusing, and it didn't aggravate him or bother him like it might others. He simply enjoyed the company. Smiling at her, and glancing outside at the rainclouds, which were coming ever closer, he asked "So, do you anything interesting about yourself to tell me?" |

As soon as the question had escaped her gaping mouth, Ulfr exploded with laughter. She knew it might have looked a little immature, but hilarious? Really? She hoped he still took her seriously. After he stopped laughing, he brought a hand up to his face to wipe away a tear that had fallen from his eye. Why? Well, my parents were killed by bandits. An entire horde of them at that. A passing wolf pack came by, attracted by my mother's scent. Her name was Veronica. The wolves killed the remaining bandits, and took me in as their own. At sixteen, I ventured out of the pack to see what else there was. I wanted to know about people, about humans specifically. I was soon outcast, but I've made a place to rest my paws about a year ago. The people there love me. he said to answer her question. His history flowed into her mind as she followed his words. More questions also flowed as her curiosity kick in yet again. Why would a wolf pack stop to help a human couple? Why would wolves take in an infant to raise as their own? Why was he outcast by his pack if all he did was go out to explore the world? Where did he find to live? Why did he say "paws"? These questions and more flew through her mind as she was listening. He smiled at her, waiting for her response again. Probably expecting her to flip out again like she just had. But before she had thought of a sane comeback, he asked her if she had anything about herself that she could tell him. While he asked her this, his eyes wondered over to the window once more. She had to control her tongue to not blurt out, "What are you looking at?" She looked at him, wondering if she should tell him about her childhood. Her eyes darkened when she thought about it. To the untrained eye, nothing had changed; but Ulfr looked like he had a very trained eye. So she changed her thoughts and her eyes went back to their normal brightness. Instead, she focused her thoughts on her father. The picture that filled her mind when she thought of him was fuzzy, becoming more imprecise as the years wore on. She could just make out his dark brown hair, his golden skin, and his eyes looked as if they were either green or blue. She smiled and looked out the window. Now she saw that he kept glancing at the approaching rain clouds. She loved the rain. It always left her feeling refreshed and clean. She could remember back to when she was three or four: her father had taken her out in the rain and danced with her, twirling her around and picking her up off the ground. He had always done those kinds of things. He was the ever perfect father. It almost killed her when he was taken away... She looked back to Ulfr and the corners of her mouth lifted a tad at the sight of his smiling eyes. She decided to skip the horrid start of her life and start when she had arrived in Norwood. Well, I have lived in Norwood since I was eight and I have just recently started to go back out into the farther reaches of Imythess to explore. She hoped he wouldn't ask about her life before Norwood. She had never told anyone about that. And she would very much like to keep it that way. |

After he had asked his question, Ulfr noticed a slight change in her eyes, ever so slight it was. Having been raised by wolves, subtle changes was something he picked up on. He could read people better than most. However, the light in her eyes quickly returned, but she seemed to be focused on something. Smiling, she looked out the window, most likely noticing the rain clouds as she did. He looked again as well as she said "Well, I have lived in Norwood since I was eight and I have just recently started to go back out into the farther reaches of Imythess to explore." He wondered why she started at the age of eight. With the earlier immediate response to the question, he guessed she was hiding something. Since she had obviously reacted badly to mentioning her past, regardless of the fact that she had thought of something to make her happy again, he decided to put the attention back on his story. Not to be the center of attention, but rather to allow her some peace of mind. Give her something else to think about. "I'm surprised you didn't have any questions for me, you seemed so animated at it while ago." He chuckled as he continued to smile. Hopefully, the friendly demeanor would help to avert her focus. He would traveling later, since he and Higoru had been on quite the adventures already. Some were almost too farfetched to even believed. Were it not from injuries from these adventures, he didn't know if he would think it all a dream instead of reality. Glancing out the window again, the clouds were coming closer still. About thirty minutes away was his guess. When they arrived, he would probably go for a run. Maybe start in human, then change to his werewolf form. |

When Ainsley told Ulfr that she had lived in Norwood since age eight, he seemed momentarily confused. She was almost certain he was wondering why she hadn't started at birth. She held her breathe waiting for his response. Lucky for her, he reacted quickly. Instead of questioning her, he turned the conversation back to himself. For this, she was thankful. "I'm surprised you didn't have any questions for me, you seemed so animated at it while ago." he let out a chuckle and smiled at her. She felt herself relax and smile back at him. He was right, of course. Her earlier outburst had been rather animated. She giggled and then immediately covered her mouth. How girly of me! This is definitely not a time to be looking innocent. Which I'm mostly not, but whatever. Her thoughts rambled just like her words usually did. She rolled her eyes in her mind and sighed. Well, my mind works a little too fast for my liking. I have quite a time of slowing my thoughts and putting them together in a correct manner before I talk. That's probably why I ramble all the time. She cringed and then apologetically smiled. Kinda like I'm doing now. But I did have some questions, if you don't mind. Why would a pack of wolves stop to help a human couple? Unless, of course, he isn't human. Which would explain the terminology he uses... Her thoughts continued even after her mouth had stopped. She noticed that before she had a chance to answer him, he had glanced outside yet again. She took this chance to look outside again herself. The clouds had gotten a little closer and would be here within the hour. They looked like they weighed heavy in the sky, waiting to find just the right spot to unleash their torrents of water. As the clouds came closer, so did a cool breeze and the dull gray that always accompanies a rainstorm. She loved the rain but hated that it practically took the color out of everything. Until it was over, that is. Then it brought out the vibrant colors of all the living things that had been dowsed by the shower. The window that she and Ulfr continued to glance out of was open just a crack and she could feel the atmosphere of the diner get the slightest bit cooler. She glanced down at the table and realized that she had almost forgotten about her salad. As she waited for Ulfr's response, she picked up her fork and stabbed the lettuce on her plate. She brought the fork to her mouth and looked him in the eye. She ate the bite and set her fork back on the edge of her plate. She listened as she chewed and hoped Ulfr didn't find her rude. He didn't seem like he would. ((OCC: Sorry it took so long. I haven't really had a writing muse lately. /OCC)) |

"Well, my mind works a little too fast for my liking. I have quite a time of slowing my thoughts and putting them together in a correct manner before I talk. That's probably why I ramble all the time." she responded, along with a cring and a smile that seemed to say "I'm sorry", and continued "Kinda like I'm doing now. But I did have some questions, if you don't mind. Why would a pack of wolves stop to help a human couple?" That was the question he was waiting for. he thought for a moment, wondering if he should answer. People didn't necessarily have a track record of responding nicely to the answer of her question. But, if she did respond badly, he had two choices, fight or escape. he could do both. She didn't seem the type to freak out, to shout "Monster!" and then lead the entire village in the form of a mob in an attempt to kill him. However, he himself knew that looks could be deceiving. To everyone else, he looked like a normal eighteen year old, yet he was a werewolf and had a demon in his head to boot. He pushed his food around on his plate before answering, thinking carefully. he supposed he wouldn't have mentioned the wolves at all if he didn't like to let it slip that he was a werewolf. Laughing under his breathe at himself, he looked up at Ainsley and smiled that wolfish grin of his, one that almost betrayed his true nature, one that seemed to show the animal within. His golden brown eyes lit up a little, and he said For the same reason the bandits attacked my parents and killed them; my mother was a werewolf." He eyed Ainsley, watching for her reaction, and waiting for her to realized what that meant about him. Shouldn't take too long, all she had to do was put two and two together. He stuck his fork in another piece of meat and ate it, savoring the flavor it contained. not as good as fresh from the kill deer meat, but it was delicious all the same. |

As Ainsley waited for Ulfr's response, she wathed him carefully. He seemed hesitant to answer her question. Like he was debating whether or not to tell the truth or even answer it at all. He looked down at his plate and pushed the food around a little, like a child trying to avoid the inevitable task of eating. But in this case, it was the inevitabe task of answering the question. She hoped he would answer truthfully; she really wanted to know. He had most likely made his decision becasue he laughed under his breathe and looked up at her again. A sly smile crossed his lips and lit up his eyes. She thought that being raised by wolves must have taken a toll on him; he even looked a little bit like a canine, especially with that grin of his. When he spoke, Ainsley was very surprised at what came out. "For the same reason the bandits attacked my parents and killed them; my mother was a werewolf," he said and then waited for her response. When the words had been spoken, she blinked repeatedly, trying to understand what he had just told her. If his mother was a werewolf.... that must mean HE is a werewolf! she thought. Once this thought was processed, her body went ridged. She was suddenly afraid. What was a werewolf doing in Norwood? She had met a werewolf before, down at Norwood Lake, and thought that she was pretty nice. That wasn't the best run-in though. she thought. Her mouth was open, but just a little bit, in a shocked expression. What were the odds that she, Ainsley-Lillian, would meet a werewolf today, and in the diner of all places. That's why he is eating meet. she thought. Well, a lot of peope eat meat, stupid. Just becasue they eat meat doesn't mean tha they are a werewolf. she reprimanded herself. Oh. Wow, that's... different. So that must mean that you're also a... were. Am I right? |

After he had spoke, his waitng for her response didn't take long at all. She blinked several times, apparently having slight trouble taking in the information. A few seconds later, her body went ridged, and there was a hint of fear on her. He frowned, hoping this wouldn't go South, for he was enjoying the meal. Glancing out the window, the rain clouds would soon be upon the village, it would only be a matter of minutes, or so he thought. Give or take. "Oh. Wow, that's... different. So that must mean that you're also a... were. Am I right?" she suddenly asked. Turning his attention back to her, his frown still prevalent on his face, he looked her in the eye. Her true dispostion would be displayed there; the eyes never lie. He sighed, and his frown was replaced by a slight smile, one that almost appeared pained. But no, it was only a smile of someone who knew it was impossible to avoid people who would automatically distrust and hate you for what you were. If he had to pick, he prefered the distrust. That was easier to get rid of. "Yes, I am a werewolf as well. But please, don't let that ruin your salad." He motioned towards her salad, allowing her to direct her attention elsewhere without her first reaction appear extremely obvious to him, even if he had already noticed her, disruption, at his particular inherited trait. He stabbed another piece of his steak with a tad more force that need be, but only to relieve himself of the slight displeasure of her immediate reaction. Lifting it to his mouth, he placed the moursel in his mouth, again savoring the flavor, even if it was becoming cool. If he wanted, he could warm it back up, but he was too lazy at the moment. Rather just eat it as is. Grabbing a roll, he tore a piece of it off and popped it inot his mouth, its buttery taste being all he had hoped it to be. Taking a swig of his milk, he waited patiently for her next reaction. |
