Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Lost...of all the rotten luck he once again found himself lost. Grumbling to him self and muttering a few choice curses he slumped against a nearby oak. He had hoped his journey through these woods would have only taken a days travel at best but already it had become much more then that. How many days more he was unsure as this blasted fog, which was almost thick enough to swim in made telling the passage of time more difficult. The sun which he had not seen for some time seemed unable or unwilling to burn off this think fog and allow him to continue through the woods.

At journeys start the fog had not been as think as it now was. And at least then he could see far enough ahead so that he was not walking into every other hard surface like he had been since the fog thickened. It was only when he walked face first into some unknown tree he could not identify that he finally gave up. He would have to wait until this fog lifted or thinned a little or risk stumbling and snapping his neck in half or some other bone in his body.

Leaning back upon the oak he now rested against he checked to make sure he still had everything. His long sword which he had named Isidar Mithrim (meaning Star Sapphire) was still belted tightly to his side. He also carried some provisions which were running low and an empty water flask. He would need to find some source of water soon. Other then his Hawk Tobias who was out hunting at the moment he had nothing else to his name other then a small journal which he felt on the inside of his coat pocket.

How long would he sit here before this fog lifted. He knew he could not remain he for long but he was in no hurry to fumble around either. He would rest for a time, perhaps some solution would come to him that would get him out of this mess.

…three, two one, here! The thoughts echoed in the hooded lycan’s mind as he stopped and looked at his surroundings. Fog, pure and simple. A thick mist that had weight to it, as one would assume. And the key property in it, water! What more perfect a way to practice controlling the liquid substance than to simply go to a place so saturated in floating water? Logan reached down through the neck of his shirt and pulled out a blue pearl, cold to the touch even in his furry hand, and looked it over as best he could. This was his channel to greater magics, he just knew it to be true, all he would need would be to continually practice, and this was the beginning. After all, his heroic adventures wouldn’t particularly last too long if he got killed from a lack of magic or skill with a blade.

The young werewolf let the pearl drop, though it wasn’t far since the small object was tied with a strong string. The adventurer took another look at his surroundings before throwing out both of his arms to either side of his body, his hands were flat and vertical against the fog which surrounded him, and for a moment he shut his eyes as he cleared his mind of his generally ADD-ridden thoughts. He wasn’t particularly sure if that would make any difference, but hey, it was worth a shot anyway… right?

He opened his green eyes to see if he was making any progress with his manipulation of the water.

Nothing.

It didn’t look like even a foot of the fog was moved.
“Okay, then… I’ll just have to try harder!” He exclaimed, to both himself and the fog around him particularly. Once again, he took a deep breath, this time refusing to shut his eyes. He envisioned the fog clearing… no, he changed the thought because it was a stupid one, he envisioned the fog closing into a ball of water in front of him as the rest stayed away, a clearing to see, after all, Logan was beginning to get a little parched.

After about a minute, it started working, the fog swirled around the young sorcerer, quicker and quicker it converged in front of him until, voila, a sphere sat in the middle of the air in front of him, one crafted of the water that had only momentarily been floating through the air! And then it splashed to the ground in front of him, making sure to hit his pants with some water. Luckily, with a bit of practice it wasn’t too hard to separate the water from his clothing.

Logan reached a furry hand beneath his hood to scratch the back of his head, "Well… at least it’s a start.” The lycan took a moment to examine his surroundings once more. The fog seemed to be staying at bay, just where he wanted it, and it didn’t seem in too much of a hurry to reclaim the area of grass it had once occupied. All the better, it meant that he could get to the main stage of this little trip, now he could eat some of the food he brought along!

Before Logan completely removed the backpack from his arms, his forest-green eyes caught sight of a figure against a tree, more particularly, a man. For a moment Logan paused before speaking, “Hi…” Honestly, he wasn’t expecting anybody out in the, pretty close to being literal, middle of nowhere!

Ah well, as long as the guy wasn’t going to try and kill Logan, he didn’t see any reason to be particularly unfriendly… Just untrusting… To a degree that his stomach might permit.

After some time lost in thought an idea finally struck him upside the head. Thinking it over his heart raced with excitement though he did not rise to his feet. He wasn't sure if this would help at all but he could not stop his hopes from rising. Better then doing nothing he thought. His hawk Tobias was sure to be around and an aerial view of his surroundings might prove to help him guide his way.

Reaching out with his mind and with the connection the two shared he felt the hawks presence. Though their connection was not strong enough for him to know it's location or allow the two to speak there were certain other advantages to having a hawk as a familiar. As he focused on their connection he uttered the two words that would allow him to see through the eyes of his hawk, "draumr kopa". With that his own vision began to blur as the hawks vision took over. It wasn't long till he realized that he was now soaring over what he believed to be the forests below. His heart continued to race as he soared through the air. Though he had no control over which direction to take it was during these shared times that he felt the most freedom. What he wouldn't give to sprout wings and join Tobias up in the air.

Mentally shacking his head of such thoughts proved hard but at last his head cleared and he looked below. Most of the forest was not visible expect for the tree tops above the swirling mists. Neither could he find the path he had taken nor his current location. It seemed that this grand idea of his was not so grand at all and his heart sank. But still he had no desire to separate his vision from Tobias. He continued to drift through the sky becoming less and less aware of his surroundings. It wasn't till he snapped out of this trance like state did he notice something odd going on down below. In a section of the forest the mist began to swirl. What ever was going on down there he was sure that it was not a natural occurrence. Quickly he allowed the connection to fade as his own vision began to over take the hawks once more.

It was then that he realized that whatever was happening was in fact close to his current location. Before him the mist of the surrounding area continued to swirl, faster and faster much like some sort of whirlpool. Within a few moments all the mist had vanished and within the center stood a lone figure and what seemed like a small sphere of water. With a splash the sphere dropped to the ground but was quickly forgotten for the figure before him took up much of his attention. His first thought was of a wold standing on his hind legs but he soon realized that was not the case. A werewolf he thought with a hint of panic. He did not know much about them but they almost always proved to be dangerous.

This one however did not rush in for the easy kill. In fact it simply stood there, it wasn't till it spoke that he realized he had been staring, frozen in place by the beats gaze.

"Hi" it spoke. Shocked that he was yet still alive it was all he could do to get out a quick response, "Hi". Still Silas did not move fearing that the slightest twitch would would spell his doom.

For a moment, it seemed like nothing was going to happen past the veil of the two saying hi to each other. Logan stared at the man who simply stared back, motionless. Even Logan had bothered to blink a few times as he tried to figure out what the stranger was doing… After about another moment of nothing really happening, the young lycan perked his head up and looked off in a different direction for a moment.

“What was that?” He inquired, in a sort of loud, yet hushed tone, rolling the words quickly off of his tongue as he gazed off into the mist, pausing another moment before answering his own question, “I think I heard a fly fart.” He joked before chuckling and then turning his attention once again to the man sitting up against the tree.

“Why are you staring like that, anyway? Is there something on my face?” Logan inquired, wiping his two furry hands over his equally as furry face, but finding nothing on it.

“If you were to have said that there was something on my face, I would now effectively call you out as being a liar… A liah!” The young lycan reiterated the point of there being nothing on his face, and as a result, no reason to really be staring so blankly. After all, he didn’t smell anything that was big enough to eat him… Or small enough to bite his ankle… Or small enough to sneak up on him before growing to impossible… no, wait, he learned several years ago that there was no such thing as impossible… At any rate, he knew there wasn’t anything, big enough to notice at least, that could potentially cause him harm.

“Well, sit there all you want, I’m hungry and I’m going to eat. More specifically, I’m going to eat a cool, cool meat and cheese sandwich.” He stated before pulling a small white box from his backpack and opening it up, letting a cool mist, possibly unrelated to the surrounding one, free from the container allowing the light aroma of meat and cheese to permeate the surrounding air before he began to make a sandwich out of it and the bread which was sat next to the cold box.

"And if you want a sandwich, you're gonna have to speak up or you're not getting anything."

For what happened next puzzled him to no end. From what he knew of werewolves told him to back away as quick as possible. But then he had never known them to be able to speak either. He had thought for sure that they became nothing more then savage beasts after their transformation. But then again there was no full moon either. Everything about this one seemed to deify what was known to him.

After a few moments of silence it spoke again. "What was that." Looking around for what it might have heard he saw nothing but the clearing and the swirling mist that had yet to over take them. And besides his own breathing he had heard nothing either. Before he had more time to think however it answered it's own question. "I think I heard a fly fart."

Silas was even more confused after that statement. What kind of person says thing like that. As Silas remained silent the werewolf continued to talk as if nothing bothered him. Most of what he had said though was lost on him. This had to be one of the weirdest beings he had yet met and his mind was filled with on odd buzzing noise. It wasn't till it mentioned food that he somehow found his ears worked again."I’m going to eat a cool, cool meat and cheese sandwich...and if you want a sandwich, you're gonna have to speak up or you're not getting anything."

As the shock off all this began to wear off he at last stood, he had began to reach for his sword but stopped half way. As of yet it had not attacked him, and something told him that it wasn't going to either. Returning his hand to his side he walked closer to where it was standing. Though still cautious his fear of what was standing before him had lessened much after it's odd comments. And before he could stop himself be blurted out, "What kind of werewolf are you?"

It was the only thing he could think about at the moment as truth be told he had never encountered one before. Looking down at the contents of the box he was indeed making a sandwich. It was only then that his stomach gave an uneasy rumble. He himself had not eaten in a while. Looking up again in it's face he shook his head and stated reaching in once of his pockets pulling out some biscuits. "I'll pass on the sandwich."

As he began to eat he managed to get another question before his first was answered. "What should I call you? "it" seems rather rude."

At the first question that the man asked, Logan had stopped right before taking a bite out of a, what he had believed to be at least, very delicious meat and cheese sandwich.

“What kind of werewolf am I? I’m a furry werewolf! Oh, yeah, also I’m not a druid, no, I’m more of a… well, spell casting werewolf in general.” He shrugged, not really getting what the guy was expecting. Sure, most of the natural non-shifter werewolves were more tribal, but there were more than enough town-raised human-shifters that were walking around. What, was he expecting some kind of feral mindless, and hungry brute? Nah, out of those four things, the young lycan was only one, hungry, which his stomach let all know with a grumbling to rival even the odd man’s.

Luckily the next thing that the man asked was a lot easier to respond to, since the young werewolf was able to take a bite out of his sandwich, chew it, swallow it, and then able to respond, “Nah, ‘it’ works perfectly fine. I don’t really know you, and I’ve heard tales where names hold power, so until I feel I can trust you a bit, you can go ahead and call me ‘it.’ After all, I usually tell people to call me Alan Thyme, a little riddle-name-pun hybrid thingy. And besides, I don’t really consider being called, it, rude. Well, not usually anyway, if there’s some people that think a constant barrage of insults and taunts is funny, I usually end up retaliating with a bit of magic, or brandishing my faithful ol’ sword here.” Logan said happily, a very wide smile on his wolfen face as he patted the scabbard at his left side.

Logan took another bite out of his sandwich when he had momentarily stopped talking, chewing it, swallowing, the same pattern as last time before asking a question of his own once his mouth was cleared, “So, what about you? What’s your name? Or are you about as paranoid as I am?” He chuckled before returning to eating his, as he had expected, very delicious sandwich. Cooled meats and cheese really did make a big difference, though if he had any jerky he would have loved to make a sandwich out of that.

As Silas sat there, still snacking upon his biscuits he listened to the ramblings of the werewolf before him. Not much of what he was saying made sense. He had never before heard of a furry werewolf, nor of one that could cast spells while in wolf form. It seemed that much of what he knew of werewolves was wrong, or that perhaps this one before him was an oddball, an exception to the rules. Either way he doubted he would get much information out of him.

It wouldn't even give him his name. The only reason he could think that someone would hide their own name is if it was already well known. Like some sort of criminal he thought. Watching "it" however he seemed to doubt that. It didn't seem to fit what he had observed already. Perhaps he was just insane, and paranoid he thought.

But what to do now. The mist around them was still to think to travel in. Perhaps if "it" could continue to use his magic to clear a path they might make it through. But would it be willing? Just as it said, it did not know him, and neither did he know it.

It wasn't long till it asked for his name in return. He thought about it for a moment. Why should he give a name if it wouldn't. But then again he didn't really care who knew his name, it wasn't as if he was hiding anything.

"No, I guess I'm not as paranoid as you are, my name is Silas." he stated. "So what has brought you out this far? Something here or just passing through?"

If he was going to be with it for a time he figured he might as well and try to learn as much as he can about it.

“I’m a practicing spellcaster,” Logan said after finishing off his sandwich, patting his hands together to let loose any crumbs that might be stuck in his fur, “I’m practicing the use of hydromancy, water magic. Mist is water so I figured it would be a lot more helpful. My guess is that you got lost in it, though.” Logan said, pointing a finger at Silas before pushing himself off of the ground and to his full height, about two feet taller than Silas.

“Since there’s two ways to be an adventurer in this world that gets to live for a long time, skill or magic, I decided to take the easier path. Especially when I found this helpful little thing,” Logan said as he reached down the neck of his shirt, pulling out a round and cool blue pearl that was embedded into a white shell-like holding tied to a metallic string around the young lycan’s furry neck. Logan didn’t worry about showing it off, its magics presented anybody from being able to steal it… well, at least for very long.

“I’m not naturally magically inclined, so I need focuses. This is the first focus that I’ve managed to find. I talked with a wizard in Kellan who said it was a good item for hydromancy and cryomancy. But I figure if I want to get to cryomancy I need to deal with hydromancy first.” He shrugged, before putting the pearl back under his shirt.

“I don’t suppose you’re a battle-mage who makes a point of practicing hydromancy, are you?” Logan inquired, figuring it wouldn’t hurt to ask… Of course, he’d been wrong about such things in the past, but this man, Silas, didn’t seem like he was too particularly hostile. He seemed a little bit annoyed to Logan, but maybe that was just jealousy of the sandwich.

So he is some sort of spell caster Silas thought as he watched the wolf-man. He had thought it quite obvious at first with the little stunt he had pulled off before but then again others who weren't magic inclined might know of some way to pull it off as well. So the fact that he announced that he was a mage of some sort proved it without a doubt.

It wasn't till he pointed out a small object around his neck that Silas looked at the object he was now holding. From it's appearance it looked much like a pearl within a shell. Nothing about it screamed special. When he announced it as a focus Silas knew different. Silas himself new of a bit of magic. He was still learning but in his studies he had learned a bit about focuses. Used for strengthening spells and helping those that weren't as magically inclined as the wolf said he was.

From what he stated he seemed to also assume that Silas had gotten lost which was quite true. But he had also asked if he was a battle mage who practiced hydromancy, which he assumed meant water magic.

Unlucky for him however Silas knew no magic of that sort. After all he had left before much of his studies had taken place. He knew of the concept of magic but hadn't learned much on how to use it as of yet. More likely it would be Silas learning from him if such a situation like that came forth.

"Yes your quite right, I did get lost within this blasted mist. I was waiting for it to clear up before pressing onward" He stated pausing for a moment thinking back. "As to your other question I'm afraid I'm not a battle mage, and as to magic I know a bit of the concept but I don't have much knowledge in it's practice. I've got a bit of healing magic but for the time being that's all I can do."

As he finished the biscuit he had been eating he stashed the few he had left within his pocket again. He didn't want to eat them all and run out of food for he still had quite a bit of traveling to go.

"I'm actually training to become a Knight and Paladin. Do you perhaps know of anyone who I could learn from?" Silas asked hoping that he did. It didn't hurt to ask after all and on the off chance he did know someone and he could find said person that would be a large step in his progression.

Ah, too bad this Silas guy wasn’t a battlemage, Logan could really use any bit of training he could. He had at least guessed one thing right about this person, though. He had simply gotten lost in the thick mist, he didn’t say why, but it didn’t particularly to seem to be much of Logan’s concern. On the other hand, it looked like this person was looking into similar practices as the young lycan, Silas apparently wanted to become a paladin, or at least a knight anyway. Whether or not this man was saying it to lure Logan into a false sense of security or not was pretty quickly put aside after the werewolf got a good smell of the man’s scent, not a tinge of evil, really.

“Sorry, I haven’t heard anything about any knights. Though a while ago I did hear something about a paladin in Kellan that had smashed in the skulls of some killers who pretty much lied about being reformed from their evil ways, or something like that. Supposedly he’s got glass eyes and some weird clothes, but I haven’t seen him.” Logan said, sharing all of his knowledge on any paladins as he hooked some fingers beneath a strap of his backpack and stood to his full height, giving a long stretch before slinging both straps of the backpack around each of his arms and looking at the comparatively small human

“If you want, I can help you get out of here, I can just follow the scent from where I came in. And by the way, my real name is Logan, but most people with a rather lack of creativity go ahead and call me “Wolf,” For reasons I hope are pretty obvious.” He said, feeling that if Silas hadn’t tried to kill him in this short amount of time, he wasn’t going to any time soon, especially if he had really gotten lost in this thick fog.
