Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Not much of anything seemed to be happening lately. There was never much of anything that happened around her, it seemed. Colorblindness made everything so dull. Then again, she had been colorblind her whole life. Perhaps it was all the dreams she had, wondering what colours were like. At least she had her sister dragon to keep her company. Aurum, her sister, always walked slightly behind Klesci, just in case anything were to happen. Klesci had an alternate form, but Aurum really liked being her protector. She was really good at protecting her, too.

She was still new to Imythess, so it was nice having her sister with her. Aurum protected Klesci, and Klesci protected Aurum just the same. It wasn’t like they decided to take the path into the eastern part of this world, it just seemed to be where their senses guided them. Klesci was in search for some answers, and her sister promised to be there with her every step of the way. So here they were, travelling together, now finding themselves amongst misty rolling hills. She couldn’t help but wonder if this area was always misty like this. The ground was wet as if it had just rained, but the air was thick, as if there was a lot of fog.

It was calming, in a way, to know that some areas still looked so empty. At least there was still a lot of untouched habitat. She strongly despised the humans because of their greedy ways. They always had to take over every land they found ‘first’, then kill anything that tries to tell them somebody else already found it.

She somehow managed to avoid such things. Klesci knew that there was always something like that happening, whether it be a unique stone that someone found, or a whole village.

She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts that seemed to be draining her attention from her surroundings. She looked over to Aurum, who was in an obvious state of high alert, then she looked around them, trying to find something out of place, or perhaps a figure in the distance. Soon enough, they came up to a small lake, and stopped there for a drink. Klesci stroked the dragon’s neck gently as she looked down at the lake, watching the ripples in the water.

It was odd… Horo felt detached from the world, from his own body… His golden gaze was locked onto the sky. His thoughts were not their usual, filled with bloodlust and the desire to hear others scream out in pain. The fiend’s form hovered a foot from the surface of the small lake, the only thing that could truly tell of his existence was how the cloth from his clothing slightly moved in the light wind.

The state his mind was in… it was a familiar one… an ancient one that seemed to be showing itself more and more often since that time… Why did he even bother to care about her? He had slaughtered dozens which surely looked and acted as she did… yet for some reason, he had spared her from her from the same fate he had been sure to inflict upon her brother… He had even gone so far as to save her from the effects of his letifer blade, of Mayuri’s disease...

For all of his madness and desires which one could easily mark as simple-minded, Ogichi was far more intelligent than he let on, and every bit of intellect he had could not truly figure for why the draconian had been spared his blade so many times…. So many times more than anybody else.

The demon’s gaze dropped to the water, catching the ripples in the light as they passed beneath his feet… He wasn’t even sure of where he was, he had been so lost to his thoughts. He hadn’t even realized that the mad smile was not present on his face. Nothing but a somewhat somber expression as he looked back to the beings at the source of the disturbance in the water… neither was her.

A sigh passes Horo’s lips as he turned in the air, his movement as if he were standing upon a solid surface which did not exist. The thoughts had momentarily stayed bloodlust, had kept the sadism from creeping in. It seemed as if these two were lucky this day. A smirk emerged upon Ogichi’s face.

“Who are you, so far out here?” He inquired, walking forward, lowering over the water with each step until he set foot on the edge of the lake, about a meter away from the two. His letifer blade was strapped to his back by the cloth tied to its handle… It was odd, for one of those few times, somebody was lucky enough to be safe from his insanity.

She jumped when she saw somebody walking up to her. It was like he came out of nowhere.

Aurum was glaring at the stranger, obviously not trusting him right away, but Klesci figured everyone deserved a chance. She watched him carefully, raising an eyebrow when she noticed the lack of colour on him. The only way she could tell, was that the majority of him, including his clothing, was white, or very light grey. His red eyes didn’t bother her, considering she was colour blind.

“Just a traveller.” She said, not sure about giving this guy her name. “Why? Who are you?” she returned the question, her blue eyes filled with curiosity. This had to be the first time that she had ever come across anyone with so much white on them. For all she knew, he could be human. She really had no idea. However, it was only a matter of time before she would find out for sure.

“Why do you care who’s out here? Do you live around here or something?” the questions continued. It was like a never ending waterfall of finding answers. Unless somebody put tape over her mouth, the questions would probably just keep going and going... and going...

There was no such thing as being too careful. So, she took a couple of steps back from him with a hand on her shortsword, making sure she kept her eyes open and alert. She probably wouldn’t be able to protect herself effectively with it anyway, considering she rarely had the need to use it. Even when she did use it, it was not for cutting through flesh. She ran a hand through her mahogany hair, still watching, listening for his response.

Ogichi didn’t even immediately respond as the woman spoke. His golden eyes simply watched as she stepped back… was it out of caution? Or was she one of those who could sense what he was? At any rate, it was clear she did not know who he was. .. Fine…

“Just a traveler…” The pale fiend finally said, replying with the words that the girl had already used. He felt they were fine enough for a reply to both of her questions and left it at that for the time being. He still felt distant from the world. His muscles seemed at ease, even with two potential victims right here… An instant… that’s all that would be needed to take their lives, with nothing more than a single swing of his blade… They wouldn’t even need to die from the initial strike… just flee long enough for the massive letifer blade’s effect to work its way through their blood… A sigh passed the demon’s lips in place of the strike which mysteriously did not occur… The two were still alive… and he felt no need to kill them… no want to spill blood or take lives…

For a moment, he wondered if he should mention how useless the woman’s blade would be against him…

“Your pet must ward off most of the creatures that hide in the mists. Doesn't seem much more reason for it.” The pale being idly mentioned as his tired golden eyes switched over to the dragon with an uninterested expression.

It was as if he were in a haze, as If trapped within a dream… It stirred up memories, ones he had since long discarded, but somehow they had returned, bubbled to the surface, yet he held no growing hate or madness… Thoughts of a life left behind… to him, they were as nothing more than old pictures.

Of course, he’d just use the same words she used. Everyone seemed to be a traveller these days, so you’d might as well just not answer if you’re gonna say that. She rolled her eyes when he said that the dragon was her pet.

“She’s my sister, actually. Not my pet. It’s much safer to travel in pairs.” She corrected, knowing Aurum would be taking it up with her later if she didn’t say anything. Either way, it’d be a lot harder to kill Klesci than it would be to kill her sister, the dragon. It paid to be part vampire sometimes. Of course, she wouldn’t dare openly tell anybody about that. Some people held grudges against vampires for no particular reason.

She looked him over, wondering what he wanted. Usually, when people walked up, it was them that wanted something. Whether it be an answer to something, or an actual object, or something they were just curious about, it was always something. So, instead of just standing here and letting him insult her, she asked, “What do you want, anyway? What’s up with all the white on you?”

She watched him, having taken that step back out of caution. She didn’t know him, or what his intentions were, so it never hurt to be careful. However, if he wanted to hurt them, he probably would have already. So, she removed her hand from the hilt of her sword and just crossed her arms. She knew full well that there was no point in even trying to use her sword. She could run faster than her sword could move, so she figured that would be the better choice between staying to fight and running, if she had to choose.

Her sister…Whether the girl meant they were related by friendship or blood, the words didn’t spark much care within the pale madman’s mind. His golden gaze simply left the two and peered up towards the sky as an old memory was prodded from a deep slumber from the very recesses of his mind. The memory was placed aside for a moment with no mystery to Ogichi as to what stirred it from its long rest. He dropped his gaze to the two once more, having listened to the words he gave a slight smirk and a light shake of his head.

“That question… is usually so simple to answer…” Ogichi said, dropping the smirk from his face as he ran his right hand down the back of his neck, “The first question, that is… the second one is stupid.” He added arbitrarily as he returned to mulling the first question over in his mind… He wanted one thing as far as he could think… but he didn’t know where to find it, all he knew was that it wasn’t here. A sullen sigh passed his pale lips as his golden gaze locked with the woman’s.

“Unless you can manage to find somebody for me, I want nothing of you or your pathetic scaly whelp of a sister… not even your lives.” He spoke in an almost grim tone before cocking his head to the side as a thought passed his mind, “But what of you? You care not even for the dangers of which you currently and literally face, so what is it that you seek? What is it that you want so badly that it could keep you in this area, talking with a monster who, on most given days, would take your life with joy? Because I will tell you now, your sister could not protect you from my power.”

This guy obviously enjoyed talking down to people. She decided to ignore any insults thrown her way, and smiled at him. “Well, considering you’re the one that walked up to me, I think it’s safe to say that there isn’t anything in particular that I want. Especially nothing that you could help me with. Besides, why are we even talking about this? It’s obviously not relevant if you’re as powerful as you say you are.”

She looked at him strangely, very unsure of what to think. Did this guy want to kill them or not? She never understood people who talked about power, but never showed it. How was she to know that he was this all so powerful monster?

“Either way, what if I just wanted to enjoy the beauty of nature?” There seemed to be a lot of questions being passed back and forth. “I was until you came along, anyway. I’m not that great on finding people, so you’d might as well just be on your merry way.” She crossed her arms, waiting for him to leave. He was the one that walked up to her, so she assumed that it’d only be right that she could stay here for a while longer. It truly was a beautiful area, so she wanted to explore it more.

He wasn’t exactly telling her what to do, but she got the impression that he wanted her to just run away without another word. However, if she did that, then that would tell him she’s a coward... which she was very much not. One could say that she had an iron will, considering how much it took for her to actually become afraid of something, or disturbed by something.

She held her ground, not daring to move from where she stood. She had no idea what this stranger planned to do, or why he called himself a monster. Aurum, the dragon, was starting to get very uneasy, though. She started to snarl, and stepped between the stranger and Klesci. Her body language and growling made it known that she didn’t want him around anymore. She was willing to fight, and didn’t care if she got hurt or not. So long as Klesci was safe, that’s all that mattered. Aurum had her wings spanned out as well, making herself look that much bigger...

Horo looked away for a moment; a chuckle passed his lips as it accompanied a light shake of his head at the girl’s words… The fiend shifted his weight; the metallic pieces of his massive blade clinked together as it quietly sounded out the movement as his golden eyes quickly changed the feel of their gaze, becoming sharper and colder.

A lamb… that was all that the girl truly was… a lost lamb who had inadvertently delivered itself to the slaughter, watching as the butcher sharpened his blade and abandoning its chances to flee before it blood was spilt. It was amusing… the images within the madman’s mind seemed to coax another chuckle from his lips, leaving behind a slight and wicked smirk, his eyes narrowed slightly and again he shifted his weight, seeming almost closer to a creature within sight of its prey.

“I was here before you were, girl…” Ogichi said, his gaze shifting to the dragon as it moved itself in between the two, attempting to draw attention and make itself seem more intimidating… it was foolish, yet commendably so… Another chuckle passed the fiend’s lips as his right hand slowly made its way to the handle of his massive blade, “One only gets so many chances within their life to run away, to keep living… I offer you several, but you persist on staying, to provoke the lust for pain and death, for the smell of blood to saturate the air… and now you allow for your scaled ‘dog’ to attempt to protect you… Is it simply not enough to merely throw your own life away, but to allow for the one you call ‘sister’ to die in your place?” This time, it was a low laugh which passed the demon’s lips, his eyes switched from the cold warning to one filled of excitement for the slaughter, he almost seemed to be dripping with sadistic intent, “I offer you one final chance, girl… run while you still hold your life, or I shall take it and turn these lands red with your blood...” The words were spoken with an honest tone as, with a single hand, he lifted the massive blade from his back and brought it over in an arc for its tip to point towards the ground, not an inch from slicing into a blade of grass that had already begun to die from the weapon’s presence.

From the simple movement of the weapon, the cloth wrapped around it loosened and draped over the enchanted metal, revealing Mayuri’s black and red appearance… The letifer blade seemed hungry with anticipation of yet another kill…

Klesci took another step backward, but this time wrapped her arm around the dragon’s neck, pulling her back and whispering into her ear, “Come on, Aurum. This guy is nuts.” She watched him as he pulled his blade out, pulling harder on the dragon’s neck. After a moment, the dragon finally moved, still glaring at the demon as she folded her wings and started to follow her sister.

“It would be pretty hard to take my life, believe it or not.” There was no way that she’d run from this guy. Running away was an act of cowardice, and she was certainly not about to show that. “You’ll have to try harder than pulling out your butter knife.” She said, backing away from him. She did not feel comfortable turning her back to him, so she preferred to just back away slowly. It was pretty obvious that his sword was powerful, but it was moreso a comfort to herself than anything else, to call it a butter knife. It might have been an insult, but that wasn’t the whole purpose of saying it so clearly.

She almost wanted to laugh when he called Aurum a scaled dog. She didn’t resemble a dog in the least, so there really was no point in getting upset about it. When he threatened to take Aurum’s life though, she told the dragon to keep walking, and slowed herself down so that Klesci was the one between the stranger and Aurum. “What’s the point of this?” she asked defensively, her voice starting to quiver a bit when she watched the grass beneath the blade die. She had never seen any magic like this before, especially nobody crazy enough to want to wield it.

The words the girl spoke, it actually even made Horo question her sanity. Another sinister and light chuckle passed his lips. The girl seemed capable of making her guardian step back, but still spoke to the fiend as if he were nothing more than some common bandit… fortunately, Ogichi loved to see the shock on such victims’ faces as he proved to be quite deadlier…

When she called Mayuri a butter knife, the words provoked a moment of mad laughter which echoed throughout the mist before he brought massive weapon in front of him, the tip of the weapon to the sky as he ran a pale hand down the weapon’s length. “It’s a horrible butter knife, since whatever it cuts dried and cracks.” He spoke with a chuckle as the edge of the letifer blade seemed to become slowly engulfed in a black flame. It was the effects of Horo’s own evil nature that turned the weapon profane, a truly horrific sight.

The demon’s golden gaze fell once more to the girl as she spoke. At first, his response was a slight shake of his head. He could see it, that slight of fear that was creeping up behind the guise of bravery. Yes… that would become a great deal more pronounced…

“Heh… It would seem that… what I want is quite different than what I wanted…” He spoke, the grin on his face changed form into a truly insane smile as he let the handle of the massive weapon go, grabbing the cloth tied around the handle as the wrapping around the blade slid from the blade. It had been a while since he last fought anything, even if the battle was one-sided. He wanted to enjoy this kill… he’d go slow on her. With a flick of his wrist the letifer blade began to spin by the white cloth, the cursed edge cutting through the ground and air, creating an eerie whistling as he mulled the question over. “I wanted to merely be left to be here, hidden within the mists… Left alone with my thoughts… Now, what I want is far more simplistic, far more enjoyable… I want to spill your blood.” He said with a chuckle, stopping the spinning for a moment as his weapon seemed to fly in the air above the girl before a sharp tug on the cloth brought the wicked weapon down and aimed to slice down the length of her body.

She had definitely never heard anyone say out loud what their actual intentions were. Now her heart was starting to race. “Oh...” she said, not liking that crazy smile that he made shortly after mentioning that he’s changed his mind about what he wanted. “Well, I’m sorry to hear that.” She frowned, jumping back when he moved his sword up and made it spin. She had never been threatened like this before, so she had no idea how to react. With that sword spinning like that, she wanted to run really badly, but her muscles seemed so frightened that she didn’t dare move.

Next thing she knew, the blade was hovering high above her with black flames smothering it. The second she saw the thing make a movement, she jumped to the side, barely even thinking about what she was doing.

Just as the letifer blade slammed into the ground, Aurum turned around snarling, and leapt at the demon as quickly as she could, aiming to pin him to the ground and slice him to death with her massive claws. The dragon hadn’t actually attacked anyone like this before, so she didn’t really know what she was doing. All she knew was that she had to try to protect her sister at all costs.

Much to her surprise, Klesci had managed to side step the blade by mere inches. She was actually quick enough to avoid getting cut by it. Just being so close to it made her feel sick. She jogged away from the blade as soon as she recovered from temporary shock that she could move quick enough to avoid that blow. It really helped being undead, sometimes, but she was neutral, so the magic that the blade held was still very much affective on her.

She watched as the dragon lunged at the stranger, her eyes widening as she was now noticing how much of a bad idea it was to stick around here. “Aurum no!” she yelled out too late... watching carefully to try to see what was happening...

Like a stupid dog….

Ogichi couldn’t help but chuckle as the dragon had charged at him like some mindless guardian of the girl. The demon didn’t even need to pull his blade back. His hand was like a blur as it quickly and effortlessly moved between the dragon’s maw and his own form, gripping the top of its head, his wrist twisted and his arm launched backwards to snap the dragon’s neck with ease before throwing it aside like the mere piece of garbage it was.

This girl would now see, as the corpse of the one she called sister was so easily disposed of by the smiling fiend, what a true monster was. Not some mindless beast, not some goal-oriented being, but the pale figure in the mist that so easily killed a draconic being without so much as a flinch.

He could be faster than the eyes of most beings could even keep track of, his strength exceeded that of a dragon’s, and his insanity… his pure unbridled sociopathic love for the ending of the lives of others, his brutal passion which was drowned in the very core of causing death and pain… he was one of very few monsters left in a world consumed by half-assed madmen and corpses… and now he needed to decide. Allow this girl to live, or to show her what not believing a monster who shows pity upon you can bring about…

With a low and loud grinding sound, the demon and his massive letifer blade disappeared into the mist, another signaling his reappearance, hidden in the veil. He began to move quickly, circling his possible not completely unlike a predator would it prey. His words taunted through the mists, “I am a monster, and you are nothing but a corpse to soon be rotting…” A chuckle followed the speech of madness as his blade cut through the mists and at the left arm of the girl before vanishing back out of sight.

She watched in terror as she witnessed the death of her sister. It was unfortunate that she had to die that way. Klesci would be sure to return here and give her sister a proper funeral. If it was even possible, with this maniac around.

“I’m not going to die, no matter how hard you try.” She told him, not caring if he heard or not, because she said it so quietly. When he started disappearing into the mist, that’s when she started running. If it was the last thing she’d ever do, she wanted it to be known that she wasn’t the one that caused this madness. The man had given her a chance to get away, but she just had to be too curious and stick around to find out what he was talking about.

She kicked herself for having to ask so many questions, but she knew she couldn’t help it. For some reason, Klesci just loved finding out new things through asking strangers all sorts of questions. It wasn’t like she was being rude, it was just in her nature to be so nosy. She was aware now though, that there was such thing as asking too many questions.

That grinding sound cracked at her nerves, which helped her run faster, but she still had a feeling that she couldn’t run fast enough. Then something struck her... she did have an alternate form... but she wasn’t so sure about shapeshifting in his presence or not. She saw just how easily he had disposed of her sister, but Klesci’s dragon form was much larger and stronger. At the same time though, she knew she’d survive longer in her human form.

It wasn’t too long before her own bloodlust started to kick in. It would have been even stronger if the demon had used his sword on Aurum rather than just snapping her neck. When he appeared out of nowhere and stabbed at her arm, she managed to move away just in time, but the blade had still gotten close enough to kill some of the surface skin on her left forearm. She stopped running suddenly, her eyes turning a lighter blue, glowing in the dimming light. Even with all the mist, it was hard to tell what time it was. She had no idea what time of night it was, but she knew it was at least after dark. Since she got bitten by that vampire, she found that the sun hurt her skin too much to step into it, so she only travelled after dark.

She wasn’t entirely sure how people killed vampires, but she knew it was possible. She had no idea what kind of effect the demon’s sword would have on her. She was neutrally aligned, but she was undead as well. She tried not to dwell on what might happen to her, and tried to pay attention to where this demon was. “Don’t be a coward! Show yourself!” she yelled, not completely acknowledging that he was doing that to toy with her.

The demon couldn’t help but laugh as he moved around his prey, his insane high-pitched voice ringing out in the mist at the words of the girl. Coward was something he was often called, it was nothing more than another name for murderer, psychopath… He loved it just as much. She thought brave… but it seemed a bit too obvious to the fiend that she would be dead already if he wasn’t having a bit of fun.

“Coward?” He repeated, following another laugh at the call, “That’s it… isn’t it, don’t you think? I fear the world, so I must watch it bleed, I anguish in the joy of others, so I bring about anguish to bring joy within myself… I am a coward, good call on that!” The sound of his movement in the mist stopped for a moment as he looked upon the barely visible figure of his prey amongst the sight-obscuring mists. “And then you are a coward as well… Instinct has a powerful hold upon fear, doesn’t it? You saw the one you would call sister so easily killed, and now you run from the murderer who gave you so many chances at living… It’s almost like a dramatic play… if only it didn’t happen every other day… And why would you want me to show myself? Are you already so tired of your life that you would want to throw it away as so recklessly, the same way your sister did? I could snap you like I did to the draconic, but this is too fun, and taking the life of a mindless beast so quickly, a being so easily driven only by a flash of thought which brought about its own demise, is less than satisfactory to me… This game will continue until I tire of it, and that might not happen for quite some time, girl!” He called out before he began to run around his pray once more, viewing her reaction with a bit of intrigue as his blade whipped through the air behind him, seeming almost to thirst as much for the cut of flesh as did Ogichi.

“If you think yourself so truly brave as to shout orders… Then try to strike at me, please, make this bit of entertainment so much more enjoyable!” He called out, whipping Mayuri through the air by the white cloth wrapped around its handle before throwing the blade to slash across the face of his victim, to be assured that her body would begin to turn to dust from his sword.

Now that she was being told what to do, she couldn’t help but rebel. She didn’t want to please the demon. She really did value her life, but it was hard to really fight when she just lost the one creature that meant so much to her. She had to figure out how to escape this lunatic before he got carried away. Perhaps shouting things out –or saying anything at all for that matter- just wasn’t the right idea...

When the sword was swung at her, she made another dash out of the way, feeling the energy of the sword whirl by her by mere millimetres. She took a couple more steps backward, just to ensure she had her balance.

If playing with her was fun to him, maybe she’d start playing with him... She was alright at acting, so it was maybe worth a try. Maybe the trauma from losing her sister so easily turned her crazy?

“I dare not strike at you, stranger.” She said, keeping her voice as smooth as she could. Even she was surprised to hear that she was pulling off a calm tone. “I love life, actually. So I would really appreciate it if you just get over yourself and let me go. Dragons might be easy to kill, but good sir, I am not what you might think I am.” She said, not coming out right away with what she was. Anyone could guess she was related to dragons in some sort of way, but there was something else in her bloodline that a simple crick of the neck would not make her drop.

That sword seemed to be of unholy power of some sort. From what she had learned in the few moments of being so close to this deadly weapon, it wasn’t making her skin dry out, and it wasn’t about to cause her pain either. If anything, it would probably heal her at the same time as it cut through her. Either way, she withdrew her shortsword, hanging onto it firmly with both hands so that nothing would make her drop it. It was not a two-handed weapon, but this just went to show how inexperienced she was with her own sword. She held it calmly, looking at her blade, then back at the stranger’s sword. Clearly, she was going to need some sort of miracle to get out of this one...

((OOC: Sorry it took so long :( holidays stole me away for a while. I'm back now though. ))
