| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Finally, she was allowed to do an errand. He had said this was a test run, as was everything else in her life now. Due to his experiments on her, she was now granted a tail, ears, and claws that were from her other form. She was given a hat to cover her ears, but there was nothing she could do about that. Her dark eyes seemed to fit in, in this dark city. Her clothing was a strange stretchy material, made to hold when she shifted shape. She held her backpack tightly, but not too tight as she didn't want to crush what was inside of it. If she crushed the precious item, she would have to go back to the caves sooner than expected, and take what punishment was waiting for her. It was a good thing she had finally learned her lesson. Her demon form tried taking over way too many times, due to how much pain she had been put through until she started to listen. The small child, appearing only about six years old, was walking through the dark streets, her eyes adapted to the dark. She was raised in the dark, so her eyes didn't have much choice. This was the best day of her life, she could say. No bright lights, freedom to walk around... she just had to be back before the pain started. She could only hope she had a while to enjoy before that happened. Currently, she was looking around at all the different trading posts, trying to find a certain one that her master had told her to go to. She could only hope that she found it in good time... |

The tielfling walked through Balefire, this ‘city of lanterns.’ She never felt totally comfortable in the cities on this plane, though this one was better than most. She knew she did not have to worry about paladins or any other righteous fool here. But she did not trust those who resided here in the least. All sorts of people came here who would not be accepted in the rest of this realm, and for good reason too. As Shalia walked through the city she came to what appeared to be a market. Venders called out their different wares and she thought she even spot a hag selling shrunken heads. It always amazed her how something as hideous as a hag could seduce men. The crowd annoyed her, so she turned down a street and walked down a seemingly vacant road. Though as she turned she bumped into a child. She glanced down at the girl who seemed no more than six. All it took was a glance to tell Shalia that this child had the same heritage she did, not an uncommon thing to find in this city. But this one made her a bit curious, she had not seen a child with demon blood for a long time. Her lavender eyes were neither kind or angry as she studied the girl. Finally she broke the silence. “Careful child, there are many who would make you a snack in this city,” she said in an emotionless voice. |

She nearly jumped out of her skin when the woman spoke to her. The girl's mind was so filled with the task at hand, that she hadn't paid attention to her surroundings. She turned around to face her, looking up from under her hat. The child held her tail still, not sure if she would have noticed it already or not. "Who would want to eat me?" the girl asked innocently, "I'm sure I would not taste very good." she smiled sweetly. All sounds were muffled anyway, thanks to the hat she had to wear. She would have taken the hat off to hear better, and to be polite, but she didn't dare face the pain that would follow. She looked up at the lady, somehow being able to tell that she didn't mean her any harm. Her smile got a bit wider, then she said, "I'm sorry ma'am, but I need to go..." she didn't want anyone or anything thinking that she was already distracted. She wasn't entirely sure if she was allowed to have people walk with her. Perhaps this lady could help her. "Do you know where..." she pulled out a small, crumpled piece of paper out of her backpack that had the trader's name on it, "this place is?" It really didn't help that she couldn't read, but at least her master had told her what it said earlier that day. The child wasn't sure if she would ever find it on her own. She especially didn't want to return empty-handed. She had avoided punishment for this long, and she wasn't about to rebel again. Those days were long gone... at least, for now. By first reaction, when standing still she rubbed her fingers of one hand up and down the silk of her collar. It felt so soft and beautiful compared to her clothing, or any other material she knew of, for that matter. It helped her remain calm at times, with how soft and smooth it felt. She didn't really have anything else to do for comfort, anyway. She wasn't raised in a comforting environment, so if anybody offered her any sort of comfort, she either got confused, or it just made her really happy, depending on what it was. |

Shalia shook her head as the girl spoke. The child was too innocent and naïve, she would not last long in this place. “You obviously have not spent much time with demons, despite your heritage,” she said. “Their kind would find your flesh a very satisfying morsel.” When the girl smiled even wider, Shalia figured it was because she thought that she would do her no harm. Which, though she did not plan on harming the child, she did find the girl’s innocence quite foolish. She could not remember a time when she was like this on. She could not even remember the last time she wore a smile like that, if ever at all. Oddly enough when the girl asked for help, she felt inclined to help. Unknown to her, she saw a bit of herself in this child. Perhaps this is what she could have been like had she not been broken before she could even remember. “I think I know where this person is,” she said an almost bored voice. “Come I shall show you, but walk quickly.” Her lavender eyes darted to the silk collar on the girl’s neck when she touched it. The fabric seemed out of place compared to the rest of her clothing. It made her think back to when she use to have a collar around her own neck. A metal slave’s collar, before she had been freed from the blasted thing and killed her master. She got an odd feeling that this girl’s collar was not to dissimilar from her own… “Odd collar…” she muttered. “Does it mean something?” |

"No, ma'am." she agreed, not having been around demons much. "Last time I saw any demons was a few years ago." her smile faded as she spoke of these demons. She was having difficulty remembering exactly who they were to her. "When they all got killed, I was sent away... somewhere." Now she was frowning. She found it really frustrating that she couldn't remember that part of her life. She couldn't help but wonder if there was a time that she did remember it. She was glad to be broken out of those thoughts. They were really making her upset. She smiled happily when the lady spoke, saying she knew where this person is. "Okay." she said happily, nearly jumping to her side, now keeping her hands around her backpack. Chells was really happy that this lady knew where it was, and it was great to have somebody to talk to, on this long walk. When she was told to walk quickly, she certainly did, keeping at Shalia's side the whole time. Her smile faded again when the lady asked about her collar. "Umm..." she really had no idea what she was allowed to say, but she wasn't about to ignore the question. That would be rude! So, she looked up at the lady, then watched where she was walking again, thinking of what she'd give as an answer. "My Master put it on." she said, suddenly remembering back to the day it was put on and reinforced with spells. Chells shook her head, trying to shake the memories away. She really didn't like those memories, especially since they were all negative. Her thoughts went back to the current moment, and continued, "Just a couple of years ago, is when I met him. I guess the collar means I'm his pet." she left it at that, letting her think about it, and needing to think more about it herself. After all, she didn't want to say the wrong thing. |

The instant Shalia heard the words master and pet, the rage built up inside her. A fire burned behind her violet eyes and her raven black hair became scarlet red. This girl was a slave. There was nothing in all the planes that she hated more than slavery. The sudden change in her most likely scared the girl. Shalia closed her eyes as she forced herself to calm down. Her hair reverted back to its original black color, but the fire in her eyes still burned strong. “So…you’re a slave,” she hissed. But it was clear her anger was not directed at the girl. “There is nothing that is more despicable than those who keep slaves. I was one myself not too long ago, until I killed my former master with my own hands.” She fell silent once more as she continued to lead the girl to her destination. Shalia was not one to offer kindness or rescue people, but she had a strong urge to free this child. The girl was still young, and possibly could be saved from some of the horrors she had gone through as a slave. Perhaps if she kept close to the girl she could kill her master and free her… The tiefling really did not understand why she was having these thoughts, but a part of her did not care. Whoever owned this child was a slave master, and therefore deserved death. “Tell me about your master,” she said. “I assume he is not a demon like mine was, since you said you have not seen a demon for many years.” She wanted to know about the girl’s master so she could begin to plan out how to kill him. If killing him was even the best route. Also she wanted to know what sort of opposition she might face in going against this person. |

The child stepped away a little bit when Shalia’s hair changed colours. She couldn’t tell what was wrong, considering she had never learned how to recognize anger. This change didn’t necessarily scare her; it was more like a raise of worry. She watched the lady carefully, understanding that this change was because of her finding out that she was a slave. Maybe she shouldn’t have said anything. She didn’t like seeing people upset. She certainly was not sure what she thought about her having killed her former master, though. It was understandable, but, Rimmon couldn’t help but think he could have had family that cared about him. “I’m sorry.” She said, hoping that would help her calm down a bit. “My Drow master is very kind to me.” She made sure she said that clearly, holding a pause before continuing. “Before him, I was with a Drow Mistress. Don’t tell him I said this, but she was a lot better at potions than him. He reads me stories, shows me how he makes his potions, and gives me lots of food... and drinks. The drinks always have a funny taste to them though.” She giggled a bit when she decided her former mistress was better at potions than her current master. Perhaps she could teach him a thing or two. Of course, her explanations would never include all the ‘training’ she had to go through in order to be the perfect pet. She didn’t like feeling bad, so she always neglected her negative memories. Her words of killing her former master returned to her mind. She couldn’t help but be so curious... which (come to think of it), seemed to happen a lot. “How were you able to kill him?” Rimmon didn’t even want to try to imagine how much pain that would cause her. She shivered at the thought, shaking her head to blur the thought. All the while, the girl still followed beside the lady, stepping a bit closer if she seemed to calm down. |

Shalia listened as the girl spoke about her master. She got a feeling that she was forced to speak kindly about her master. Slavers often did that, it helped keep people like herself from killing them. Though such a trick would not work on her. She knew all too well what slave masters were like. “Potion? He makes you take potion?” she asked. “What sort of potions?” When the girl asked her how she killed her master, Shalia was silent for a while. Finally she broke the silence and told her tale. “I had been waiting for an opportunity to kill that monster for over a century. He brought me here to this plane as his guard. He wanted to find and capture new slaves to be sold when we returned to the hells. We came across an elven man,” she explained. She still remembered Aiden very clearly. A part of her would always be thankful to him. For if it had not been for him, she would still be a slave without hope of escape. “I was ordered to capture the elf, but he proved to be more difficult than expected. After a short battle he came to realize I was a slave and was being controlled by the collar on my neck. He used his magic to remove the collar, freeing me from my Master’s will. But just having the collar off was not enough to truly free me…I needed to kill my master or else he would just enslave me again. So by fighting with the elf, I was able to slay the demon and free myself,” she finished. “And I shall never become a slave again. I would rather die than serve anyone again.” |

“Ummm...” she thought aloud, not sure if she actually said whether or not she drinks the potions. Perhaps this lady had pieced it together pretty easily. “Yes, he makes me drink potions...” she answered slowly, talking quietly so that only she would hear her. “The potions gave me cat ears and a tail. Sometimes they turn me into a little kitty, too. They never hurt, so I don’t mind, and cats are kinda cute, don’t you think? Not like those silly dogs.” She rolled her eyes when she said ‘dogs’, also putting emphasis on the word to show how much she didn’t like those disgusting creatures. As she walked along with the lady, she started noticing more and more of her clothing and other features. “I like your hair.” She said, seeming to have a thing for long hair. Her hair was still pretty short, and she couldn’t wait until her hair grew longer and darker... that was, if it ever did. “It’s really nice.” She said this while Shalia was silent, not liking silence very much, so she often thought up some strange things to say. She didn’t really want to ask questions about her outfit, like, why she was wearing two belts. Rimmon had no intentions of being rude. When she finally explained how she had managed to kill her master, Rimmon smiled sweetly, as if very happy for her that somebody was nice enough to remove the collar. She always had a deep down wish to be freed, but she would never ask anyone to help her, nor would she ever even try to murder her master. She still had a long way to go if she wanted to be killing anybody. “Are you friends with the elf now?” she wondered, figuring she would at least do a favour for him, since he had freed her so willingly, it seemed. From what she had heard, elves were much more kind than Drows, so she always had a hope to meet an elf one day, but at the rate she was going, she’d be lucky to meet an actual domestic cat. |

Shalia looked somewhat confused when the girl complimented on her hair. She was not use to giving or receiving compliments so the concept was a foreign thing to her. Or at least when she normally received a compliment it was from someone trying to fool her…but this child could not fool anyone. She seemed far too young, far too innocent, far too naïve to plot and scheme. Then she asked if the elf was her friend. “I don’t make friends,” she said. “Only temporary allies. Where I come from making ‘friends’ is one of the quickest ways to get yourself murdered. No, the elf is not my friend. He may have freed me due to some moral code of honor of his, or to merely have an ally to help him slay my demonic master, but he did not trust me. Nor, should he. He watched me for a while afterwards, thinking I would use my new found freedom to raze towns and murder innocents…like so many with demon blood do. Foolishness.” It may be true that she was part demon, but she resisted the dark murderous tendencies. This was not due to some inherent ‘good’ in her soul, but merely because she refused to be a slave to anyone or anything. That included being ruled by her own nature and power. It was she who was in control of her nature, not the other way around. She glance down at the girl. She had talked more to this child than she had to anyone else in a long while. What was it about this girl that made her relax enough to share like this? Was it the girl’s innocence? Or perhaps it was because she saw in this girl what she could have been had she not been breed as a merciless warrior? These were unanswered questions that flitted through the tiefling’s mind. Finally they came to the one the child sought. “Here is your merchant,” she said. She turned as if she were about to leave the girl to do her business, but halted mid stride. A part of her was urging her to remain with the child, to watch her and make sure nothing happened to her. Never before had she the urge to protect anyone. Reason told her leave, yet she could not. She had a strong desire to stay with the child, and free her of her slavery. |

“Oh.” She found it a bit disappointing that she didn’t make friends. Rimmon was hoping to be her friend. Perhaps she could be her ally for a long while... “Well, would you like to be my ally for a long while?” she asked, stopping in front of the merchant’s shop to talk to the lady more. “My name is Rimmon.” This had to be the first time that the introduction waited for so long. Usually, she told the person her name right away. “I would never try to kill you, but maybe allies would be a good start.” She suggested, getting out the list out of things that she needed in the shop, looking them over. She looked back up at the shop, then over at the lady with pretty hair. “What is your name?” this lady seemed open about sharing things, so she was sure that knowing her name wouldn’t hurt. “Thank you for helping me to the shop... If you aren’t busy, I really like your company.” This was an invitation for Shalia to join her in the shop. They were having such a nice talk on the way here, it would be a shame to see her leave. She had no idea what else to say to her right now, so she left it at that. She didn’t want to see her hair change colours again. The lady’s aura really darkened when her hair changed, so it wasn’t exactly something that Rimmon would ever mean to help surface. In other words, she’d never want to see her upset. Rimmon was probably the only demon in the world that searched for happiness in everything. Her mother used to always tell her, in every bad thing, there is always something good. Depending on how you look at things, there was really, always, something good. Due to her lack of knowledge on how to defend herself, anything that got mad really frightened her. She was a lot smaller for her age than one might expect, so she was really lucky that she made it this far on her own. One of these days, there was sure to be a demon that would drop dead just to munch on her brains... or something that would involve a great deal of pain. However, she was sure this lady would help her out. Rimmon always thought, that if somebody really wanted to hurt her, they would have already. So, since this lady with pretty hair had not shown any signs of violence toward her, then there must be some good in her, no matter how dull her emotions seem to be. Rimmon walked up to the door of the merchant’s shop, and looked back at the lady, hoping she’d either wait for her out here, or go inside with her. |

When the child asked her if they could be allies for a long while Shalia merely shrugged. "So long as you do not endanger me, I shall not bring any harm to you," she said matter of factly. "My name is Shalia," she told the child. The teifling thought upon the offer to join Rimmon for a brief moment. Finally she nodded. She wanted to watch the child and make sure no harm came to her. She also had a strong urge to follow the girl and free her from her slavery. There was a chance she could free the child before she...well before she became like what she was. "I have nothing better to do," she said in a bit of a bored tone, to mask the fact she somewhat cared. "I will remain with you for the time being." |

Rimmon smiled when she told her what her name is. “It’s nice to meet you Shalia.” She said, walking into the store with her. “I’m really glad you decided to stay with me for now. It’s really nice having somebody to talk to.” She said, continuing into the store and looking for the items on the list. There weren’t many items on her list, so she didn’t grab a straw basket; she would just hold them for now. Even then, she could probably get Shalia to carry something for her. “Oh, and I’m pretty sure I won’t endanger you.” She giggled, “I’m definitely not dangerous. The only danger around me might be a demon that finds me again. He isn’t very nice. I don’t think he’ll find me for a while, though.” She said, knowing she wouldn’t go back to where she had met the demon, but that wouldn’t stop him from travelling. However, last time she saw him, there was that mage there, that bound him to the ruins. She couldn’t remember how long the mage said it would be before he gained enough energy to resurrect himself again. As she continued around the store, she picked up a couple things here and there, and came across something that was in a cage. She kind of felt sorry for him. “Aww, look at this little guy.” She pointed at what looked like a ball of fluff with two eyes on it. It looked like a toy, almost, but it was very much alive. She stuck her hand into her pocket to see how much change she had, counting it, then putting it back into her pocket. She wished she had enough coinage for it. She didn’t like seeing such a small thing in a cage like that. She imagined there was a good reason for it being in the cage, though... |

Shalia walked with Rimmon in silence. The child seemed to enjoy talking even if she did not reply that often. She was just glad that she did not have to speak too much and that Rimmon seemed content speaking enough for the both of them. The tiefling raised an eyebrow as Rimmon mentioned a demon. Was the child hunted for some reason? Not that this really surprised her that much. She herself likely had some angry demon screaming for her blood. Escaped slaves often were not well liked by slave owners or the allies of their former masters. Rimmon seemed to enjoy her shopping. When the child squealed, Shalia came over to see what it was about. She saw an odd creature in a cage. It looked nothing more than a furball with eyes. She found it somewhat repulsive, but Rimmon seemed to think the exact opposite. She seemed to think the creature was very ‘cute.’Shalia watched the child as she looked in her pockets. The pout on Rimmon’s face told Shalia that she did not have enough coin to buy the creature. For several moments Shalia stood there looking between the child and the strange fluffy creature. Finally she signed and took out her coin purse. She had an excess in coin right now as she had taken many well paying jobs. Kaess had made she had no end to ‘legal’ jobs. Not that it really matter to her if the job was legal or not, so long as it paid well. And the jobs he was able to provide for her did just that. Shalia traded a few words with the shop keeper before placing a few gold coins in the merchant’s out stretched hand. Next she picked up the creature’s cage and handed it to Rimmon. She began to walk off again without waiting to hear the child’s expected squeal or to see if she said ‘thank you.’ Again Shalia was not sure why she had just done that. This child seemed to have a strange effect on her. But she found that it was not something she disliked…she just found it odd. She looked over her shoulder waiting for Rimmon to catch up with her. A part of her then wondered if it was a good idea buying the pet for her. What would her master think? Would he punish her for it? Would he think that she had spent his money to buy it? She just hoped that no harm came upon the child for her brief moment of kindness. |

Rimmon wouldn’t be able to wipe the grin off her face even if it meant to save her life. She had just enough money to purchase everything for her master, and Shalia was so nice to buy her the fluffy. After the purchase was completed, she put everything inside her backpack except for the cage that held the furfur. She smiled sweetly at the creature when Shalia handed her the cage, trying to decide whether or not to leave the cage here or not. She figured the cage was probably included in the price, so she decided she would carry it for now. Once she felt comfortable letting the creature out, she would surely give the cage back to the merchant so he could maybe use it for another one. Either way, she was smiling from ear to ear right now, carrying the little ball of fluff in its little cage. At this moment, she decided to call the little ball of fluff Corson, after her youngest brother. Rimmon had no idea whether this furfur was a male or female, but she thought it was a good name for it anyway. “Hey Corson.” She smiled at the little creature, and its eyes seemed to brighten when she talked to it, looking right back at her. She looked up briefly to see what Shalia was doing, and that’s when she noticed she was falling behind. So, she caught up to her, making sure she didn’t shake the cage as she ran, and said happily to her, “Thank you, Shalia. Thank you so much for buying him for me.” She said, stopping for just a moment to let the furfur out of the cage. She giggled when it immediately jumped onto her, its tiny fur follicles almost sticking to her skin and clothing. She grabbed the candy that was inside of the cage, as well as a little piece of paper that explained they only eat candy. She quickly caught up with the tiefling again, and unwrapped one of the pieces of candy, putting the rest into her backpack for later. She picked up the ball of fluff in one hand, holding the candy in the other hand, and held them up so that she could watch the little creature eat. Shalia would be able to watch as well, if she cared to. |
