Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The reclamation efforts in the ruins of Taras have finally succeeded in pushing back the demon hordes and looters that toppled the city. Dangers still lurk within the ruins that have been infested for so long, but it is clear enough to allow in work crews with armed escorts.

Several wealthy benefactors have taken interest in the abandoned port city, and are now funding an effort to restore Taras to its former glory. No one you speak to has seen these individuals but a stream of gold flows into the wreckage to pay wages and materials costs. Refugees and empathetic travelers flock to the burned ruins to try and earn a living while the city slowly rises to its feet. Mountains of loose rock and timber are swept away as though carried by a line of ants. The useful pieces are immediately repurposed into slums for the influx of immigrants while scraps are sent to the worker's camps to maintain roaring campfires that chase away the chilly, late-summer nights.

Crisp, refreshing musical notes wash over the busy site as bards craft uplifting tunes to brighten the spirits of the workers. The beat is kept by the sound of hammers and saws as new structures are chiseled from the piles of rubble. A constant supply of food and cool drink are moved to the work crews by cheerful volunteers to help keep the mood bright and hopeful. The atmosphere is only rarely disturbed by minor accidents, but the workers are kept healthy by several medical tents strewn across the city. Armed guards and the occasional robed figure patrol the alleys and outer walls, acting as vigilant defenders for whatever threats continue to lurk in and around Taras. The reconstruction is well organized and in full swing, with everyone finding a way to help as best as they know how.

Tucked away in the private corners and abandoned structures, the less wholesome side of the city seethes. Dark individuals who dare not offer a real name argue on top of the the burnt wreckage and slip heavy pouches of gold to easily corrupted officials. Some of these men slip back into the constant stream of workers to relieve hard earned wages one pocket at a time. Others remain unseen by the crowds and quietly plot their own vision of Taras' future. They crave control over the fate of the city while avoiding the furious quills of the historians who have flocked to the site to record this historic event

Posted ImageTaras MedallionA freshly minted coin that was given to many laborers as payment for their services. It bears the city flag across its center with the words "Rise Again" around the circumference. When you hold this medal you feel more confident in your ability to accomplish whatever tasks await you.
$$$100 GoldWho doesn't need an extra pocketful of cash?
Posted ImageCacao PlantThe pod and seeds of the cacao plant are good for adding a more pleasant flavor to foods and potions. They are also known to cause a general feeling of happiness and relaxation. Drying and roasting of the seeds turns them into proper cocoa beans that can be used for chocolate confections. The leaves can be chewed raw for recreation. Constantly chewing a mouthful at a time can give you more energy, especially when you have nothing to eat. Another effect of chewing these leaves is a relief of altitude sickness, which is handy for those traveling through the mountains. The cacao tree is not found naturally in Imythess, but has been imported from other parts of Chaon and survived in some of Imythess' hot, wet climates. The plant is very cheap and thus a vital part of the mining community. This product is mass-imported by the Dwarves to the Deep Cities to give their miners energy while working hard, and became very popular among the impoverished workers rebuilding Taras.
Posted ImageTraveler's OasisThis small waterskin does not appear special in any way but it will never leave its owner parched. Whenever someone drinks from the Traveler's Oasis, water will be created to refill the container. The water will warm inside of the skin as usual but is created crisp and cool. If the water is spilled from the skin but none is drank, the skin will not refill. Stories tell of desperate travelers throwing themselves into the desert sand trying to lap up just one drop of a spilled Traveler's Oasis so that the magic will take effect and refill the container. The Traveler's Oasis will mend itself if it suffers mundane damage, like a tear, and a dry Traveler's Oasis can be reactivated if more water is manually added to it and then drank. This useful item was first created during the reconstruction of Taras and given to the higher ranking officials who oversaw the laborers. A rare few found their way into the hands of the general public.

Okay well this topic sort of just ended without completely finishing, but it does meet the required post number. So feel free to look it over: http://imythess.com/topic/5098126/2/

As for the building was planning to describe it more, but for a quick idea I was thinking something close to The Old Globe Theater. Perhaps a bit more impressive as magic can be used in the construction, but the general shape and such is what I had in mind. That is all and thanks for your time.

Me and Serelle have successfully completed the Taras GRP in the topic The State of Nature.

Our unique location is the Taras Underground, a vast network of tunnel systems consisting of abandoned tidal sewer systems, elaborate catacombs and other features that have partially or completely withstood the destruction of Taras. In The State of Nature, the Underground wasn't actually built; Serelle and Nkiruka just cleared a good section of it of enemies in order to make it function again. So it's more of a reclamation than a construction effort.

Me and Ouroboros have completed the GRP topic Delving into Darkness.

The unique location we started was The Fighting Pits. Originally built by a slaver to replace the Great Taras Arena, Seele has bloodily taken over this project. The area is still under construction, but I plan to build upon it in further topics. There will be four pits, each dug twenty feet below street level, surrounded by bleachers for spectators to watch the gladiator sports. There will also be an underground barracks for the fighters to prepare in... And slave pens for the slave warriors that will serve as fodder for the rest.

EDIT:

Without realizing it, we kind of started another location as well... I'll include it here just to document it. The Dancing Demon is the newest tavern in Taras. Built out of a ruined manor house, the bar is actually quite spacious, although all the furniture is built from odds and ends found in the rubble. This place has replaced the Bloodseal Tavern as a hive of scum and villains, and shadowy transactions are often made in the dark booths lining the walls.

Prizes have been awarded. I also really like the name "The Dancing Demon," sounds like a good dive bar for the shady areas of the rebuilt city or something. ^_^

This kind of died, so I just finished it out. But, there are 21 posts total (I think) and the last post is my 5th. I didn't count the others' posts, so I don't know all their totals...basically, Marissa's was a scouting mission and so she joined a band of mercs who were there to thin the ranks of demons swarming Taras. I described the tower she investigated (albeit rather accidentally), but I don't know if you're full up on unique places or not...

Handed 'em out.

We can always use more location ideas. If you could, it would help to summarize the location's description here so that we don't have to comb through the entire RP thread for it. Thanks!

Okey dokey. Each quote has a link to the post it's in, and each quote is part of the overall description. Sorry for not being more concise...but I did try to include only those parts of the posts that are relevant to the tower itself.

Marissa ran harder than ever only to come across the base of a tower almost as massive as the cavern. It gleamed even with so little light, like a great onyx statuette. It vaguely resembled a dagger with no edges, smooth and round and wrapped by an equally black snake of some kind. At least, it appeared to be a snake. A carving to the right of the door confirmed it: a tall, smooth, round tower with a snake wrapped around it, the snake's head staring hungrily at the top. The top of the tower in the carving was the same as that of a chess piece - a rook, specifically. Marissa tripped as she rushed through the open doorway only to trip over something. She was on her feet quickly, but it seemed that she had tripped over a coil of the demon. It was surrounding her, stretching its body around her like the snake that wrapped itself around the tower!

It was luck that saved her. As the demon's swiftly coiling body began to close in, a wrought-iron gate collapsed from somewhere above - impaling and trapping the demon. It screamed in rage as Marissa leapt over its writhing coils, whirling about to get a good look at it. It was spewing black blood everywhere, the only thing saving Marissa from getting drenched being the distance she now was from the thing. She spat upon it, knowing full well that it would be dead and trapped for some time.

Turning to explore, Marissa made her swift way up the broad, winding stairs. The ascent seemed to last even longer than the trip across the bridge. Through similar gates strewn along her path to the right, Marissa saw glimpses of libraries and studies and strange-looking rooms filled with glass bottles and vials and all manner of frightening-looking curios: shrunken heads and spiders dancing even as they rested, impaled, upon cruel-looking staves and spears; paintings of corpse piles and individuals, nude and twisted horribly, their faces in agony; and snakes...lots and lots of snakes. More than once, Marissa sped up to avoid being chased by the things. She preferred furry critters to reptiles, thank you very much.

Her ascent finally took her into a large chamber lined with black candles. The candles were lit with small blue flames, hundreds of them dancing in a wind Marissa could not feel. Before her was some kind of cone-like wall stretching out like a tunnel, but too wide to be a true cone and without any apparent doorway. As she neared it, however, it opened wide onto a rooftop identical to the one in the carving at the base of the tower. Stepping out, she heard the cries of battle in the distance. She looked back and saw that the exit of the tower was indeed the head of a giant black snake. She shuddered and walked carefully to the edge. In the distance, the minotaur was hurling his ax; he aided another before retrieving it.

Marissa was dozens of feet above and several hundred feet away from the battle. That suited her just fine, but she would rather have been out of this fell tower as quickly as possible Yet she saw no way out except the way she had come, which was now swiftly closing, its black reptilian maw leaving her no exit - except down.

Marissa had searched every part of the giant black serpent's mouth, but had found no method by which to open it. She had even tried prying it open, but it was as well-sealed as the onyx from which the snake and tower were crafted was solid. There was no way to get back down through there. The scales of a snake were not upon this smooth body except in etched pattern, and that etching was not deep enough even for the hands and feet of a hobbit; neither would it hold the points of a small grappling hook. She could attempt to slide down the thing, but it was impossible to see exactly where she'd need to drop from here and likely too far a drop not to be lethal anyway; besides that, the snakes head was almost impossible to climb up.

Then there was the wall. Like the rest of the tower, it was completely smooth. What had at first appeared to be a dagger-like tip was actually an optical illusion set up to deter people from think that there were tower-top defenses. None stood here, but it was a perfect place from which to strike out with magic or bow or crossbow should the need arise. Only from above would it be clear that the tower was opened like the turret of a castle.

Despite its size, the rope firmly tied to the grappling hook was actually quite long. But even wrapping it around the wall and climbing down had proved fruitless, for the archer's window was still too far below her for the halfling to safely leap and she would have been leaving her grappling hook behind if she had foolishly leapt.

The light from her hand shone blue upon the ancient black stone, which seemed smooth only upon initial inspection. This tower had suffered much damage over the years, all of it repaired by hand; she could see the pits and cracks in the stone that had been repaired over the years - perhaps over the decades or centuries - but she saw nothing that would help her get out of the situation she was in. No symbols were carved into the stone here, no levers or wheels or anything else of that sort made themselves known to the halfling. Oddly, her feet kicked up no dust as she shuffled about, yet this tower had clearly not seen regular use for a very long time. Perhaps the same magic that had kept it standing all this time had also kept it dust-free, and perhaps it was magic that had repaired it?

one of the pieces of stone that ringed the top of the tower was moving. It was shedding pieces of rubble only to stretch large wings, wings on which it seemed to hover as though it were merely testing their strength. Then it noticed her. She’d heard about gargoyles, but she’d never actually met one before - and now, she realized, several other gargoyles were starting to wake up.

I have completed the Taras GRP (again) with the assistance of my good friend, Ezekial Smith.

Here is the topic: Goin' Under

In this topic we investigated the Church of Callan, a religious organization that took advantage of the fall of Taras in order to spread their own influence. One of the benefactors of the rebuilding effort was a Master Sulla who had stolen a page of the Grand Grimoire and used it to brainwash his followers into abandoning their families and obeying his every word. Rin, Ezekial, and a guard NPC named Duncan investigated the complex Sulla had built and killed the false prophet.

The area we have created is the Tower of Callan. A massive monolith of black stone, it towers several stories over the rest of the rebuilt areas in this section of Taras. The top of the tower is a gigantic torch that roars with bright flames day and night. When the priests of Callan have a sermon they use alchemical means to change the flames an emerald color, which is a signal that all of the workers should attend the lecture. Surrounding the tower is a section of the city that has been almost completely rebuilt that serves as a miniature city for all of the members of the Church of Callan. After Master Sulla's death, an acolyte named Anakin has taken over the operation of this church and set it on the right path, freeing many of the men and women who had been brainwashed. This area of the city is still much further along in the reconstruction efforts, with a thick wall surrounding it entirely.

The area has more details to it, but there's no real reason to detail it all here.

Note: As I have already completed the GRP, all Rin gets is that little coin thingie. Ezekial gets full prizes.

Me (Kalim), Logan, and Kemi have completed the requirements for the Taras GRP.

The Return of the Arena

The trio volunteered to help rebuild the destroyed Taras arena, which is being remade to not only host fights, but also holds events, as well as providing space for stalls during festivals to keep clutter off the streets and make it easier for guards to handle (this hasn't been explored yet, but those are my intentions and I hope to get to put it into the thread later). While working, or rather Kalim and Logan working and Evals whining, demons attacked. Kal and Logan are rushing into battle. No idea what Evals is gonna do, but it'll probably be weird. XD
