Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Guided Role-Plays

Introduction
  • Guided Roleplays (GRPs) are storyline seeds for a group of players to use in a role-play topic. Groups are asked to pursue a short list of goals within a pre-designed setting or storyline, but are otherwise permitted to be as creative as they wish with the remainder of the adventure, so long as they complete all of the goals by the end of the topic. Successful completion of a GRP often yields memento items and/or gold rewards, and are great way to help the development of your character. They are also sometimes used to further the board's plot or to host an event.

  • GRPs can be found in the Guided Role-Plays sub-forum of the Staff Requests forum. Some limited-time event GRPs may be put in the Announcements forum.

Who can attempt GRPs?
  • In general, GRPs are available to all characters on the site. Some GRPs may be part of a series of related GRPs that require the completion of preceding GRPs to continue. These may require specific mementos from the previous adventures before being started.

How do I participate in a GRP?
  • To begin a GRP, you only need to assemble a group and start a thread in an appropriate RP forum.

  • To submit a completed GRP for review, make sure that you have accomplished all requirements listed in its description. If you have accomplished all of the requirements you should post a reply to the GRP outline topic in the Guided Role-Plays forum. This post should provide the staff with a link to your completed GRP, a list of all the participants that completed the requirements, and if there are several task/prize options available for completion, state which ones you chose.

  • Please allow the staff time to review your GRP thread. Once it has been reviewed, a staff member will reply to the GRP outline topic confirming your accepted submittal, then they will award you your prizes.

Multiple Prizes and Alternate Accounts
GRPs typically reward a prize (or list of prizes to choose from), some gold, and sometimes a memento when the players emerge victorious. Often times different tasks offer different rewards and there is a desire to complete all of the tasks to earn as many rewards as possible, so the following considerations have been made:
  • The first character owned by a player that completes a GRP will be given the full reward listed for the task they completed.
  • Players may complete a GRP multiple times with any number of alternate accounts. However, you may only receive each prize and the gold reward once per player (not character). Mementos can be rewarded once to each alternate character that completes the requirements.
  • Players must specifically state that they have already completed the GRP previously if this is the case so that rewards can be easily tracked.
  • There may be times when the staff will alter these limitations from a specific GRP if warranted.
