Title: The Stars' Pity
Description: Invite Only.
Nitesha - June 22, 2005 08:59 PM (GMT)
The full moon rose in the horizon and the still night was illuminate in its presence. The sky was clear for all but a few scattered clouds the floated eerily across the night’s sky. Stars twinkled lazily as they observed all that lay beneath them, the calm and peace of the night, but they shined pity on one poor tormented soul.
Nitesha sat on a rock a few spans from the shore with her knees drawn to her chest, the rich greens of her tattered skirts fluttering around her ankles in the soft breeze. Her head rested on the top of her knees, her eyes clenched. The hunger was there, yet again. She had to feed soon, she had been neglecting her hunger for a few days, but all she could think was: What is the point?
She should just let herself waste away, wouldn’t she be doing herself and the world a favor? She had lost colour, lost emotion, her Turning was looming darkly overhead and she had to fight everyday, and for what exactly? This was not supposed to be happening to her, the women of her species were not supposed to endure this pain. They were the light to their males’ dark, but she was doomed to never to have a lifemate. Even when their species was together, many males available and none found that connection with her. Their princess, forsaken.
She would rather die then turn vampiric, and she would take her own life if that moment ever came. She would let the sun take her, burning the dark away with its brilliance.
Sighing heavily, she let her knees fall away and let her toes submerse in the refreshing cool of the water, she opened her emerald eyes wide and admired the enormity of the waterfall in the distance, tried to take solace in the beauty of the Mother.
Night-Fyre - June 23, 2005 09:34 AM (GMT)
The night air was crisp and the full moon was poised high above him like a glowing gem in the sky. A lovely night to say the least, at least it was to him, but it all too soon faded as a figure caught his eye, but he was far too far to see what it was exactly and vice versa, which was a good thing for him. In a near inaudible whisper he spoke to his bird, “Go see what it is….” Without delay the crow took flight from the man’s shoulder, but at that point he had ducked behind a tree, pressing his back firmly against it to remain out of sight. With all the things that took place night the few nights ago when he first met that woman, to say the least things fell apart from the beginning and he wasn’t exactly excited for a repeat or for anything worse than what that night was for him.
Within moments the crow had swooped down off to the right of the figure and close to the waters edge. It dipped its beak into the water before beginning to lull itself and bathe itself within the crisp cool water. Once done, it’s head cocked to the left eyeing the figure for a moment before recognizing it. The crow cawed at the woman, before fanning its wings at her. It gave another loud caw as it waddled over to the woman’s feet pecking at them insistently to get her attention and make sure she noticed him.
Nitesha - June 27, 2005 06:15 AM (GMT)
Nitesha immediately felt a disturbance in the air around her and her eyes snapped to her feet. She saw a waddling feathered-mass heading toward her feet and began to start pecking, trying to get her attention. At first she did not react, simply watched the black-winged creature with a single eyebrow raised. She began to laugh softly, still not the sound of true authentic laughter because that would not be possible, but the sound was closer than it had been in a long while. “Well, well, well. Is it not our little complainer. Feeling better I see. A stone to the beak doesn’t seem to keep you down.”
Taking her feet slowly out of the water she rose to her feet, staring in the direction of the shore. A breeze blew across the surface of the water picking up her mahogany hair and tossing the thick mass of strands behind her violently. She whispered very softly, “My dear little friend. I have the suspension that where you lead your master from Balefire could not be far behind. Am I in for another brash encounter? I do not think I could tolerate that this night, I feel…. So very tired.”
Reluctantly she hiked her green skirts above her knees so they would not become soaked and she made her way to shore ever so slowly. She felt as if the water had turned to mud and every step was a struggle. She had definitely left feeding for much to long. Once she had reached the shore she scanned the surrounding area, she knew he was here. She knew.
Night-Fyre - June 27, 2005 06:50 AM (GMT)
The crow shook its feathers dry before cocking its head to the direction where his master resided before giving a slight caw. Its attention soon brought itself back to the woman as it soon followed after her, stopping at her feet as she herself had stopped. It pecked a couple times at her feet before again cawing in the direction of its master, wanting nothing more than for him to show himself. Slowly his shadowed frame emerged from behind the tree and out into the moonlight, which had brought most of his features into full view, especially the distinguishable frown that was plastered there. The days were rough for him and seemed to take their toll, which was obvious due to his appearance, but at times he had the occasional pleasant day.
Slowly the frown wasted away along with all of his anxiety; he wasn’t quite sure why her appearance seemed to ease him seeing as their last meeting wasn’t exactly on comfortable terms. Crystal hues slid from the woman and to the crow at her feet, wondering why exactly the bird had taken such a liking to her, it was like a puzzle to him and more the less, one he would never figure out. Just then a light breeze kicked up causing his hair to move slightly, causing his ears to expose themselves but only for a moment. Again his gaze slid gradually back up to her, studying her for a few moments before speaking, “Seems we’ve run into each other again and it looks like this time you’re in worse shape than you had been in the last encounter. Don’t worry…I don’t think I need my sword anymore, but it doesn’t mean I won’t hesitate to pull it should the moment present itself.” He knew right straight that he couldn’t wield his sword faster than one of those things could move and by the time he would pull it, she would be at his neck and it would be far too late then, but perhaps he could at least scare her out of it so the thought never crosses her mind.
The crow cawed again, but this time more forceful than the last. The bird didn’t want violence but only for the two to get along, but it didn’t look that way. The bird flapped its wings, bringing itself up into the air before it decided to land upon the woman’s shoulder. It fidgeted slightly on its new perch but not too much before getting comfortable to the new place. It’s wings spread, spanning out widely as if it were stretching, before drawing them back against its sides.
Nitesha - June 27, 2005 07:17 AM (GMT)
Nitesha began to laugh, which then turned into soft coughing. He was right, she was in very rough shape, worse that she originally assessed. Turning her back to him she tried to recompose herself, and she stared down at herself in the black surface of the lake. There she was staring back at herself, pale as the moon and the small smattering of freckles across her nose which were usually not visible seemed to pop out of her face. Inhaling deeply, she knew this fragile state could be cured by simply feeding, but since the first moment she laid eyes on this human male she knew she would never feed from him, unless he gave her permission. He seemed so opposed to her race and her ways, he almost hurt her, almost. But she would never tell him either of those facts, not willingly.
Turning her body once more to face him she bowed her head ever so slightly, causing her mahogany hair to become a curtain, blocking her pale face from his view. “You darling, don’t look so well yourself. Rough night? Perhaps more stone-wielding foes?”
Startled, she felt a mass suddenly weigh down her shoulder. His animal companion was now perched on her shoulder! Eyeing the strange bird, she voiced in the male’s direction, “Seems your feathered friend has taken a liking to me? Or perhaps he helps you get acquainted with the lady folk, nice tactic. He’s an intelligent bird, that I can see. But, you seem to have none of his affection for me. Maybe even outright hate, or is it disgust?”
Bring a pair of her thin fingers to the black bird’s wing she stroked the midnight feather’s gently as she added, “Do not worry. I have no intention of taking you at this time, I have the feeling you would not taste very good anyway. Bitter, most likely.”
Suppressing another coughing fit, she concentrated and the soft feeling of the feather’s beneath her fingertips. She knew a hasty exit would be preferable, but she didn’t think she would be getting anywhere quickly this night. She just had to get away from this man’s disapproving gaze, for some reason his opinion made her uncomfortable, though she had met many who had met and disapproved of her and she had never been bothered before. Troublesome.
Unable to stop her body this time she convulsed slightly and reached out for a nearby willow branch for support, holding herself upright.

A scowl now replaced the blank look that once took his countenance. This woman was outright beginning to irritate him just like she had the last time, but this time it was worse. Anger seemed to well up inside of him, but he tried his best to contain it until she finished speaking. With a sudden rise of his voice he began speaking but in a harsh tone, “You are intolerable! Do you realize I came this time not looking for a fight, but look what you do, you go and pick the fight. So if you want a fight so bad then just try me, but first let me set you straight on a couple of things. It has been a rough night and it was only because I saw you standing here. Second of all, the bird does what it wants; I don’t tell it what to do for I can do it myself. I’m not incapable of impressing anyone, let alone why would I want to? I don’t need to impress anyone, I’m not a puppet doll that goes on stage to entertain and please those who are willing to watch.”
For a moment he calmed himself, allowed himself a couple moments to breathe before continuing with his words, but in a less harsh tone this time, “You must be blind or do you not see how you’ve treated me since the start. You question if I detest you or even disgusted by you when the answer is so obvious to anyone around here. Yes, I do detest you and I have all rights to especially after your performance tonight. But disgust? You do not disgust me and I have nothing against you or your race. In fact I don’t care what you do so long as it doesn’t involve me. I’ve tried since I got here to stay out of the spotlight, because I detest interaction, but if the person is pleasant to talk to then I don’t mind it so much, but you see YOU are the kind of people I try to avoid.” Slowly Night willed himself to cool and simmer trying his best not to get worked up by the woman’s ignorance.
His crystal hues traced her frame before drifting off to the lake’s surface where the moon had gleamed so brilliantly with its reflection. The sight of the white orb seemed to restore order to his chaotic mind as it raced over many different things with no true purpose. However, the woman soon interrupted his relaxation as she burst out into another coughing fit. Night’s ice blue hues snapped up to the woman as she used a tree to support her frame and with a heavy sigh he began speaking once more, “Maybe we can put this behind us because you definitely aren’t in the shape to be quarrelling with anyone. I’m willing to do it if you are, I tire of fighting and at your state you won’t make much longer.” Suddenly a break of silence instilled itself about him as he broke into deep thought. He detested the idea, but he couldn’t just leave her whither away, it wasn’t his nature to be mean, but sometimes he had no choice. However, now was not the time to be mean, but instead forgiving like his mother told him to be, “I’ll tell you what…If it’ll help…I’ll let you feed from me….” Slowly his eyes slid shut as he allowed the silence to fall between them once again.
Nitesha - June 27, 2005 08:27 PM (GMT)
As Night-Fyre began his heated lecture, Nitesha sank to her knees and then propped herself again the trunk of a willow still kneeling. She felt strange, the angrier this man become the more he appealed to her, perhaps she was attracted to great passion for she herself was incapable. Then he did the something that caused her to lift her head causing her curtain of hair to fall away revealing shocked green eyes. He was offering himself to her, one who had said before that if she fed from him he would be dishonoring his family, and he would protect that honor with is life.
Left speechless, she could only kneel and stare. Never, never had anyone freely offered themselves. She had heard of individuals who liked being fed from, but this was not the same. He did not like the thought, he openly revealed he did not, although he was willing to help her.
Feeling she owed some sort of explanation she spoke softly, her voice still sweet and melodic yet hoarse, “I am Carpathian. I am not sure if you know what my species is, but that is what I am. We were being killed of for demons, Vampires and being the only female child of the ancient blood couple I was sent to the Earth for protection. We are Children of the Earth, we survive off of the life blood of others but we do not kill our prey.”
Taking a deep slow breath she continued her explanation, “The males of our species hold a dark secret, if they do not find their lifemate they began to Turn. They loose the ability to see color, and their world becomes grey and lifeless. Then after more years past they begin to lose emotion, if they do not find their other half. The woman of our race are the light to our males dark, they have never had to deal with this torment. What they Turn into are Vampires, once they kill for pleasure and to try feel alive again they are lost.”
Bowing her head again she whispered, barely audible, “And by the Mother, that’s what is happening to me. I am the only female not to have a lifemate, even when my species was thriving no one had the connection with me, I am half a soul.”
Throwing her head back she spoke forcefully, “You are a good man! You have just proven that by your offering. I am sorry if I’ve caused you pain and ruined your night by running into my presence, but I have lost color and recently lost emotion and that is why I probably do not realize what I do.”
Smiling mischievously, the coy Nitesha shining through she added, “Or perhaps it is you have never met anyone to take offense to your brute muscular force, never met a person to talk back. You must admit, both times you met me you first offered warnings of violence.”
The grin vanished as she added grimly, “But, perhaps it is better I waste away. Maybe that is why I’ve neglected my hunger. If I Turn, I will become something I will not tolerate and if I do find a lifemate it will not be of my species, I could not stand to stay youthful and watch my other half waste away. I would not be able… You should just leave, let me to my fate…” Her voice faded away into the night.
Night-Fyre - June 27, 2005 10:35 PM (GMT)
Night shook his head at this woman, as he brought his gaze upon her. She was definitely a strange woman, the kind of woman to spit in your face and then wipe it clean. A two face is what he had called them, but he wasn’t quite sure if that was what she was, however, he was sure he would find that out soon enough. For a while he listened like he had mostly done since his first couple of days on these lands, speaking not to anything she said until she would finish. Slowly his right hand lifted and waved lightly through the retro-space before him as he conjured up what to say in his head. Soon his hand lowered and he then began speaking, “I know what you are…You’ve told me this a couple nights ago, I’ve pieced everything you said that night together and I realize you are nothing like a vampire, but you share a few similarities, however, that’s the only thing you share with those vermin.”
Again silence befell upon him entrenching him within its bind, while he continued to piece together what he would say. Night’s attention soon drew itself over to the bird on the woman’s shoulder, “Good man…I am of nothing of the such. I have been jaded since the fateful day I’ve lost my father, but that’s another story for another time. You haven’t ruined my night, no one can ever seem to spoil my nights for they grow rotten before I even get to them.” A heavy sigh passed his lips as he turned his attention back to the woman, “That bird on your shoulder is the only thing that makes me wake up each day and is the only reason why I force myself to be who I am. I am not jaded all the time, but some days I can’t stand putting on this act. So if you want the real me, here I am…”
Night slowly strode forward and to the waters edge before pausing. His frame leaned forward to toss his gaze down into the reflection of himself, “I only offer warnings is because I can’t stand putting on these acts, I hope that my warnings scare people away, but I don’t feel that way every day. Lately it seems I’ve only felt this way around you, seeing as you’re the only one that can pose any threat to me. It’s not every day that I feel jaded; it’s only once in a while as I look back in the days of my childhood to relive the thriving past. However, it makes not a difference to why I am the way I am. All that matters now is that you stay alive. You can’t just give up hope and succumb to your undoing, because doing that shows true weakness. I’m sure you will find your life-mate whether it be human or whatever. Just don’t give up hope…It’s the worst a body could do is give up. You understand me?”
