He stared at the infinite blue expanse spread before him. He stood at the edge of a tall cliff, staring into the sea. The sun was settin on the horizon in front of him, watering his eyes. My first search ended up in failure. What will this one bring? Weary from travel, he sat on the warm grass. That fruit would solve the problems of so many dear to me...but if only I could find it. That pirate would not lie. He turned around, looking at the hundreds of tiny islands dotting the sea. Somewhere on one of those islands was the fruit of all healing ((read my wanderings in my profile))...or killing. One's power would be limitless. Maybe he just needs new help...
As the sun fell asleep under the horizon, the stars sprinkled up over him. The moon cast an eerie glow over Raine as he lay down on the grass, staring back at it. Maybe I should just go back, give up all these stupid little hunts. Maybe... His eyes closed, thinking of events long gone. Then the fruit. He was alseep.
Vernon was on his way to the Pirate's Cove. He had a few items to deliver there and a few others to pick up. He was in his normal form, but his stench currently did not surround him. There was no need for it now. Vernon hated walking the isles, but it was prefered over taking a boat directly to the cove. Vernon grumbled to himself complaining about the water as he walked. The water was nothing like the murky leech infested waters of the swamp. Vernon stoped as his eyes caught a figure on the ground in the darkness. At first thought, Vernon thought he was dead. Perhaps he had some money that Vernon some items on him that vernon could releive him of. As Vernon approached he dissapointedly found that the man was merely asleep. Vernon reached into his backpack and pulled out a small rat. "Find out if he has anything worthwhile," Vernon whispered to the rat as he set the rat upon the ground. The rat scampered across the ground and climbed up the side of Raine's leg ready to search his pockets.
Raine awoke, still in darkness, to the feeling of feet all over him. He jumped up, trying to get the moving bulge out of his clothes. What came out of his sleeve was a little rat. But even more shocking was that in the rat's mouth was something of his... his map! Sure, there were only a few squiggles here and there, but it had more of a sentimental value than anything else. The map gave him a faint sense of where the coves were.
He clambered after the rat on all fours, cursing to himself as he went. His wolf, laying behind him, had its ears perked, staring at the rat intently. He knew he could get it if Raine did not. After running around in pointless circles, Raine chased the rat straight to...the feet of someone. He looked up in shock. He did not even hear him approach. He warily smiled. "Well...uh...beautiful night, is'nt it?" His wolf stared at the little rat still, licking his lips.
Vernon was amused he saw Raine wake with a start. He held a hand ready at his side in case he had need of his dagger, but he doubted he would need it as he saw the man crawl around after the rat. Vernon's eyes widened as he noticed the wolf not too far off. It was mostly likely belonging to the elf. Vernon would have to remember to be more careful. He should have noticed the wolf and anythinge else that might be nearby. The lack of light did not effect his sight though colors were darker than in sunlight. Subtly he took off a dagger ready to strike if things went ill.
After making his way back to Vernon, the rat quickly began to run up his master's leg. Vernon could have moved to as the elf would not bump into him, but Vernon saw no fun in that. Vernon looked down at Raine, keeping his ears listening for action from the wolf. "Yes, it is," Vernon replied as his rat crawled forth to his hand that was not holding a dagger. "What do we have here?" Vernon asked as he releived the rat of the map and the scratched it under it's chin with the hand that held the dagger.
