Kael walked across the debon plains, staff in hand, backpack on his back, not really caring where he was going. There was a general path he was following, consisting of tow paths in close proximity to each other, waring away the grass to reveal brown dirt. It was rather windy on the plains on this day; dry leaves still left over from two seasons ago still clinging onto the trees even in death occasionally fell to the ground. The sun was beginning to set in the west, where the sun usually set, alighting the clouds and sky pink, orange, and purple.
Tired from a long days hike, Kael spotted a nearby tree stump, and the fallen tree which had no doubt been atop the stump at one time. Both tree and stump were scorched black, so Kael suspected that the tree had been hit by lightning.
"Yup," Kael said aloud, talking to no one in particular, his mind wandering aimlessly, as aimlessly has Kael himself had been walking along the road. "It isn't safe to be out in the plains if there's a thunderstorm. In most places, the highest part of the area is the ground, or, if you're there, it's you." By 'you,' of course, he wasn't talking about anyone in particular, so he really should have used the word 'one.' But who cares about such small grammatical errors. Most people make that mistake at least five times a day.
Gazing up at the sky, soaking up the beauty of it, Kael saw something. I myself know absolutely nothing about the weather, but Kael knew a fair amount. If I were to look at the sky the moment, I would have just seen clouds, but Kael saw a 72% chance of rain. "It may rain yet," he said aloud again, to no one in particular. "Better get moving."
Aranel woke as the sun was setting. She never did know how she knew when it was setting she just did. She unburied herself from the earth as if she were the undead raising from the grave. She had placed herself just set back from a burnt tree stomp. She didnt wish to place herself that close to the pathway but there was no other suitable cover for her. As she got out of her "grave" she dusted herself off. She never did like to look that dirty. Perhaps I will wash in a river or stream later She was hungry and needed to feed. Sunset was the worst time for mortals to be out in the street. She started out toward the path when she saw something moving down the path away from her. She studied it for a while and came to the conclution that it was half man, half wolf. She knew that his sense of smell had to be incredible and coming up from the earth was sure to put out an odd stench to say the least, so she tried to stay down wind from her pray. She watched him closly as she sized him up.
Kael was walking down the road, minding his own buisness, not even really thinking of much, when he heard a rustle in the earth from hind him. He also smelled the fresh earth fill the air, as well as the smell of... something. Kael couldn't quite put his finger on it. In addition to hearing and smelling these things, he also heard a loud thunderclap, and as if it opened up the sky, it started to rain.
Kael turned around to see what had turned up the, and was surprised to see someone just down the road, in the direction that he had just come from. ~That's odd,~ he thought. ~She wasn't there a moment ago... And she doesn't seem to be quite what she... um, seems.~
"Hey!" he said, in a nice way rather than the angry way it seems written. "I didn't see you there. We should get moving if we are to escape this rain, should we not?"
((Sorry if I seem to be kinda pushy or condesending etc. I couldn't think of anything else.))
