Title: Resting by the Lake
Description: For Ember
Mosvani - April 1, 2005 06:55 PM (GMT)
The sky was clear, and the wind was blowing strongly on this day. The sun shined brightly upon the ground, warming everything up. Mosvani was flying in the sky then, playing with his phoenix Coia. They would chase each other until it was clear that the one had caught the other, then they'd switch roles.
Mosvani was the hunter now, his wings pumping furiously to catch the elusive bird. The gusting wind wasn't too hard to fly against, but it was slowing him down more so then the bird. The wind was stinging his eyes slightly as he flew, having to squint to protect them. Coia let out a screech from ahead of him, a obvious challenge. Laughing softly, he increased his pace and gained on the bird gradually.
Focusing as he got closer, he was almost upon the bird and knew that in any second now it would break in another direction suddenly to try and lose him. Anticipating the phoenix would go right, he got closer and prepared himself for a sharp right turn. Almost caught up to the bird, its flames spiraling off behind him, Coai broke right with a screech suddenly and Mosvani was prepared.
He caught him easily then, the bird shrieking it's outrage at having been caught so easily. Mosvani laughed then, and slowed considerably as he began gliding in a slow circle back to the ground. Landing by the edge of the lake, laughed again as the bird landed and looked at him reproachfully for not allowed him to chase him. "You will get your chance again Coia, the day is long and we have naught to do. Let's rest for now, you've wore me out old friend."
The bird screeched again, leaving Mosvani laughing harder as the bird flew off. Shaking his head, he looked at the lake then, its waters reflecting the light and the occasional fish could be seen just under the crystal clear waters. Today would be a good day, one of rest and relaxation for the bounty hunter. He had decided to take the day off, after a long week. The event with the Rat had left him wanting to take some time off, and this was it.
He sat, looking at the lake and lost in thought as Coia flew somewhere overhead.
Ember - April 1, 2005 07:53 PM (GMT)
Spring had surely let itself be know, the days growing warmer each day they passed. Normally Ember would enjoy a hot day like today, but she had been drawn to the refreshing coolness of the lake waters. The woman was fully submerged, swimming underneath the surface about two arm lengths, casually stroking herself around the outer edge of the waters.
It wasn't long after the man landed that Ember emerged from lake, wiping her face clean as she slowly opened her eyes. The smile that had so gracefully dawned across her face quickly disappeared, shocked to see anyone else near the lake. It didn't appear that he saw her just yet, but Ember was sure that he had heard her surface.
"And what are you doing here?" Ember's voice was sharp, almost sounding angered and as if she were territorial of this spot, demanding to know why the man was at the lake. Narrowing her eyes she scowled in his direction, swimming out of her way toward the edge of the lake to avoid having to be near him when she boosted herself out.
Clutching her undergown close to her body, the woman took a few steps to get herself up out of the lake, pulling the her body up the rocks that had been placed at it's side. She didn't appear embarrassed in her half dressed state, only slightly irritated that she had been interrupted. She quickly snatched up her dress which laid over a dry rock, ducking behind some brush.
All of her body was hidden, except for her head and neck. Casting the man a disapproving stare as she began to dress herself again. I suppose the swim will have to be finished another time... Ember thought followed by a long sigh, the soft glow of faerie fire slowly taking effect around her body and through her drenched hair as she tightened the cord around her waist.
Mosvani - April 1, 2005 08:33 PM (GMT)
He was still gazing out into the water, but not really seeing it as he thought about the events that happened last week. He was using this time to rest up, for he had some people to find. They had set him up, or so he believed, with the bounty on the Rat and he'd make them pay. First however, he would enjoy his time off.
He was surprised when the woman spoke, as he had not noticed her in the water before. It took him a minute to put together what she had said, as he had not been paying any attention. Slightly annoyed at her tone of voice, and at being disturbed, he looked at her as she climbed out of the water.
She was tall and toned, her bronzed skin pleasing to the eye. He focused on her head as she walked, ignoring the rest of her body. Her hair was a ebony color, with some spots appearing lighter but what color he could not tell with her hair wet. She entered into the bush to get dressed then, glaring at him and he turned his head back to the water.
He spoke up while she got dressed, slight annoyance in his tone. "My business is my own. You may go on your way, I'll not bother you." A screeched echoed then, and a blur of flames could be seen as Coia dived toward the water, catching a fish in its hooked claws and flying toward Mosvani. A smile flashed on his face as he forgot about the woman.
Coia came to Mosvani, dropping the fish in front of him on the ground and cooing at him, obviously proud. He reached out and stroked his head, amusement on his voice as he complimented the bird. "Nice catch, I'll get some wood and cook it. Think you could catch another one?" The bird screeched in acknowledgment and flew off. Mosvani picked up the fish, and went to gather some wood to begin cooking the fish.
He pretended the woman wasn't their as he picked up the few sticks laying around, not letting her hostility ruin his evening.
Ember - April 1, 2005 08:57 PM (GMT)
For a moment Ember almost didn't believe what she had been hearing. Her eyes widened as he completely brushed her off, ignoring her very existence. She had been accustomed to being noticed, while coming off rash and temperamental, she had a slight fondness for the attention she received, even if she did not show it. Wringing out her long dark hair until it was damp, she picked up the hem of her dress. Still barefoot she marched over to where the man rested near the edge of the lake, crossing both arms over her chest in a rather defiant move. Standing right before him so that she was sure he could see her and not so easily brush her aside, Ember cocked her head to one side.
"And what makes you think that I am going to be leaving this area? The fact that you have arrived to ruin my afternoon?" Ember felt herself becoming more agitated as she stared the man in the eye, her voice had a hint of snapping attitude within it. Her eyes had darked in shade, the makeup washed away by her swim, casting him a glowering stare. How dare he think he can just ignore me.. toss me aside and not give me another thought. She huffed at him now, tossing her head back, her ebony hair drying slowly to show hints of deep red streaks throughout.
"I think not." Her chin lifted suddenly, looking as though she would look down upon him if she were indeed tall enough to do so. "I won't leave, you will. I was here first and I deserve a quiet days rest." Her hands moved to her hips as she shifted her weight onto one leg, still standing so boldly before him. Paying little attention to his companion, Ember stared into his eyes, waiting for another unbelievably rude comment to gush out. She was sure that there was no way this man could make her leave the lake, convinced in her own mind that he was the one who should indeed leave.
Mosvani - April 1, 2005 09:41 PM (GMT)
He groaned silently to himself as he saw her walking toward him. Their was a fiery look in her eyes was one he recognized as trouble when any woman looked at you like that. Indignation flared across her face as she planted herself in front of him and spoke, her voice thick with her temper.
He had done nothing to ruin her day so far, so he refused to dignify her accusations with a response. Instead, he stood up and looked around for more sticks. Absent mindedly he spoke to her, "Nice day, is it not?" He had enough sticks now, and walked back to the spot where he had been resting so perfectly only minutes ago. Ignoring her actions seemed to be making her madder, so as long as she would be a brat he'd treat her like he would a kid having a temper tantrum.
"Mind the rocks, they hurt if you step on them barefooted. Wouldn't want your delicate feet hurt, now would we?" He reached his spot then, and dumped the sticks on the ground, bundling them together. Speaking the words iqua rill under his breath, a small flame shot out from his finger tip. Speaking as one would to a kid who knew no better, he addressed the woman. "This is fire, fire burns. Don't touch it." He lit the sticks on fire then, and sat down.
He assumed she must be getting really pissed off now, and that he risked her ruining his dinner by putting out the fire to give him trouble. All he wanted was rest, and this is what he got.
Ember - April 1, 2005 10:18 PM (GMT)
For a short time Ember could say nothing at all, astonished at how poorly she was being treated by a man didn't know. A man that she had never even met before. The same man who had interrupted her swim without invitation. Her mouth remained open though no word or sound came out, unsure of just which biting comment to snap back with. She looked a bit hurt at first, the hurt only balling into anger as the man's words replayed themselves in her mind. Who does he think he is talking to me like that, he has no right to do such a thing, I've done nothing to him and all he's done is inconvenience me...
Her gently bronzed face hardened as he continued to belittle her, each comment more degrading than the last. For a brief moment she was captivated by the magics he could produce. The quick thought of him teaching her to create fire like he did crossed her mind but quickly vanished as the heat of her anger rose inside once more. He apparently didn't care one way or the other whether he further annoyed her or not. Ember finally settled with the thought that he was going be a very unpleasant man to get rid of. Regaining her wits she coolly shook her head, the long, barely damn hairs igniting with an calm, orangish outer flame that matched the fires that flickered around her body.
"I see it is easy for a man of your age and race to think he is better than a woman like myself. So little you give me credit for." She turned her back to him now, doing her best not to let the mere thought of him drive her over the edge with rage. "You clearly have a few inner issues you must deal with before socializing with the locals." Ember spoke calmly and unemotionally, realizing that with him out of sight she had better control of feelings. Even though she kept strong hold of those feelings, she couldn't shake the intrigued that sparked as she remembered the small flame leaping from his fingertip, curious onto just how he had done it.
Mosvani - April 1, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
He watched her face, seeing the obvious emotions playing across her face. He had felt a little bad for how strongly his reaction was, but he still felt she had deserved it. He had cleaned the fish by now, and it was roasting over the fire as Coia finally brought another one. He began preparing it, thinking over what she had said.
This was the first time he had been accused of anything of the sort, and it amused him. They had gotten off to a rocky start, but perhaps it could be salvaged. He wanted rest, not a fight today. Was their a more dangerous fight then fighting with a woman? Smirking to himself, he knew the answer was no. The smell of the cooked fish was drifting past his nose, and it was indeed a delicious aroma.
Coia flew off again, presumably to catch a fish for himself that he could eat raw. The bird never had warmed up to cooked meat, preferring the fresh kills he could produce. By the time he had reached maturity, Mosvani would have no idea what to feed him. He only knew that the bird would be large enough for him to ride, and could only imagine what Coia would need to sustain himself.
Shrugging his head, he spoke to the woman. "You seem to have gotten control of your temper now, that's good. Perhaps you have some wits about you after all. I am here to relax, much like yourself, so if you will pardon me for my behavior earlier then I will pardon yours. As a peace offering, have some fish when it's done."
It was almost done, and he had finished preparing the second fish by now. He cleaned his elven blade, and sheathed it, before putting the new fish over the fire as well. "Or, we can continue to fight and I'll enjoy the fish by myself. Your choice, and it's done now so it's best you decide quickly." He picked the end of the stick he had used to roast the fish with, and offered it to the fiery woman. Maybe he'd get rest after all, but somehow he knew it wouldn't be that easy.
Ember - April 2, 2005 04:59 AM (GMT)
"It's seems you've found your manners.." She spoke just loud enough for him to hear the mocking insult while her back remained toward him. Keeping her arms crossed tightly across her waist, Ember watched across the lake as occasionally a fish or two would jump out to catch an insect that lingered too close to the waters surface. She was still a bit set off by how he had reacted to her, finding that she had little sway in the manipulation of that reaction. He had met her bite though and that impressed her if only slightly.
Whipping around she gave him a disgusted look as he picked up the fish on a stick, removing it from the heating source he had so easily created and offering it to her to eat. She thought of walking away right then, the smell of the cooked fish causing her to grow a bit sick to the stomach. Releasing her arms from her waist, she waved at the air in front of her nose dramatically in hopes of finding a gasp or two that had not yet been polluted with the stench of fish, but without any luck.
"And I don't eat fish thank you, I think it's absolutely horrid and find the smell is nauseating." She finally replied, her voice was quick and snappy again, though she hadn't meant to come off rude this time. Ember was just growing more disappointed in the way her day had been turning out. After a few days travel and running into a few of the wrong types she expected that she'd be alloted a time to rest and recuperate from the recent events, not this.
Mosvani - April 3, 2005 01:21 AM (GMT)
He listened to her snappy reply, finding it hard to miss the look of disgust on her face as she turned down his offer. Shrugging, he brought the fish to his mouth and took a bite. The fish was a bit done, and should have been quite tasty, but he found the taste to be slightly sour. She really was making his day off very disappointing.
"Suite yourself, the fish isn't that good today anyways." He couldn't keep the disappointment from his voice as he spoke, and found he didn't really care. He continued eating it, finding that it only grew more bitter as he continued. Looks like he wouldn't be finishing the second one after all.
Coia was flying overhead, occasionally calling out a screech as another bird would enter the territory he had claimed as his own. Shaking his head, he decided that a swim would do him good. A smile played on his lips then, as he entertained the thought of dunking this woman in the lake. He wouldn't do that, at least not now, after offering to pardon her rudeness from before. But...
"I think a swim would go well about now. If you change your mind, you are welcome to the second fish." He stood and began removing some of his clothes. He started with his boots, kicking them off haphazardly, then taking off his shirt. He left his pants on, not trusting the woman wouldn't steal all of his stuff, and took off into the air. He flew just over the lake, gazing down into the clear water and seeing the depths, before turning and flying back to where he had been standing moments ago. Coming to a spot where he believed he could dive safely, he made a sharp altitude gain and flew straight up for a couple of feet.
He stopped flapping his wings then, letting the momentum carry him up a bit higher before he was pulled backwards to the water. He tucked into a roll, closing his wings in case he landed back first, and crashed into the water. The momentum from the height caused a large splash of water to shoot toward where he had been standing . He swam under the surface for a little bit after landing, going the opposite way of the shore before coming up for air. Smiling, he wondered if his stunt had ended up soaking the woman, and if it had, what her response might have been. Quickly erasing the smile from his face, he turned to see what had happened.
Ember - April 6, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
Growing more impressed with the bare chested man before her, Ember had been about to soften her attitude toward him. The way he had flown so high up into the air and tumbled back down toward the lake was amazing, she could only wonder what it might be like to have wings of her own. She had wrapped her arms around her waist, gently fingering the side of her arm when the water rose up out of the lake. Her amber eyes growing wide in shock, franticly looking to either side for a way to escape the shower that was about to pour down upon her.
But it was too late, she had wasted too much time in awe at Mosvani's dive, leaving her with no time to move out of the way. Screaming out loud as the cool water hit her, Ember squeezed her eyes closed, gasping once the water had cleared her face. The splash of water would have been enough for one to think that the fiery glow that surrounded her body to dissipate, but the fires only seemed to grow hotter. Now flickering a bright red instead of the calm orange that had once so calmly outlined her form.
Wiping her eyes free of any remaining water, she glared into the water as Mosvani surfaced. Without another thought, she bent low to the ground, scooping up in her hand a small rock that laid near her feet only to stand and hurl it in his direction while he swam in the water. Her anger was a bit more than she had thought it to be and as a slight rage stirred inside her she bent again, grabbing a handful of rocks this time, throwing them in the same direction.
"Your ignorance shines through at the most unexpected moments. I had almost thought you to be generous and slightly kind, perhaps in the wrong place today. But now I see that you are just unbelievably rude and you care nothing about anyone other than yourself!" She screamed at him from the edge of the water, the hot flickering of faerie fire appearing to burn more rapidly than it had before.
Mosvani - April 6, 2005 10:11 PM (GMT)
He shook his head, clearing his watery vision after turning. Opening his eyes he had just enough time to see the rock before it slammed into his forehead. His vision blurred instantly, and he was seeing double as the pain blasted his head. He had just enough sense left to recognize that both of the women on the dock were bending over to collect more rocks and dive under the water as she unleashed them in his direction.
His head ached magnificently, but he was no longer as dazed now. His vision was still slightly blurry, made more so by the fact that his eyes were open under the water, but he was able to think now. Either she truly hated him, or his stunt had proved successfully. Surfacing for air, he took a deep breath and brought a hand to his head to check for blood. His hand came back a pinkish red, washing away quickly. She had good aim.
He couldn't blame her for what she did, but he would not stand by and let her assault him with rocks. He caught the end of what she said, assuming the rest was along those lines and called back now that he only saw one image on the bank. "Great aim. Since your wet already, how about you cool your head in the lake instead of throwing stones? I won't bite, I promise." He had a slight grin on his face, while he looked at her. She seemed to be a glowing inferno with the faerie fire surrounding her, but he knew it was merely an illusion.
Despite her rudeness, he had to admit that she was definitely lively and keeping things interesting. The day he had wanted would not come to be, but instead he had been greeted by a person who was proving to be very interesting. Having fun is just as good as relaxing sometimes after all, and despite the ringing headache he now had he believed he could have some fun with her. He called back to her then, ready to duck under the water at a moments notice if she chucked another rock at him, "Well? Not afraid of a little water are you?" He waited then, weary of more flying rocks, for her to decide.
Ember - April 6, 2005 10:36 PM (GMT)
"No but I just might." Her voice barked back, she was still glaring at him, wringing the water out of her hair. She had just nearly gotten dry before the water splashed on her again. "And I am not afraid of a little water, if you remember correctly, I was the one in the water when you so rudely descended upon my otherwise uneventful day." Ember had just enough rage to bend down and pick up another rock, but that had been before she saw the pinkish tint swelling at his forehead.
Laughing a bit inside, she was surprised that she had hit him so dead on, she wasn't exactly aiming when she had thrown the rock. But her eyes remained fixed on him as he floated in the water, giving him an icy stare. She was appeased when she noticed his look of paranoia, cautious of his movements in the water in case she were to hurl the rock in her hand at him again.
Biting back the rage that had now simmered inside her, Ember growled at him with a bit of annoyance. "You did that on purpose, I was already dry." In an attempt to look as innocent as possible, Ember pouted her lips. Her free hand gripped the dress she wore, now soaked just as the rest of her had been. Squeezing the fabric, water puddled around her noisily onto the soft ground which didn't appear to soak any of it up. It was then that she turned from the lake, her day ruined, feeling a bit beaten. Sighing rather loudly, she looked up toward the sun which glittered through the leaves of nearby trees.
"You want the lake, you can have it. I won't enjoy the day here with you anyway." She had stayed in her place just long enough to turn over her shoulder, giving him another cold glare before walking over to the area he had undressed at. Well, since I'm all wet, I guess it's only fair that he be all wet when he comes out of that water. With a devious twist of her lips, she reached down for his boots and shirt, waving a hand dramatically back and forth in front of her nose.
"Good lord! Don't you ever wash these things? They smell as if they've been dragged through one of the stalls in Kellen." Walking back toward the lake, she kept her eyes on Mosvani, the twisted grin still plastered across her face as she stopped at the edge and dropped his clothing just over the water's surface.
Mosvani - April 6, 2005 11:15 PM (GMT)
His grinned widened as she spoke, amused at her feigning innocence. He didn't know much about her, but innocence was one thing he was sure she did not have. He was weary of her trying to throw another rock, but she didn't appear to be making a move for one and he was sure she would have thrown another one by now if she planned to.
She spoke then, making it sound like she was leaving and this left him a bit sad. After the events with her today, the thought of just doing nothing was beginning to sound increasingly boring to him. Perhaps he should catch her and really apologize to her, wouldn't be as interesting as continuing to fight, but it might prove fun never the less. He began swimming toward the edge to get out then, when she stopped and picked up his clothes. He stopped instantly, waiting to see what she would do.
She had fooled him for a moment into believing that she would actually walk away, and as he listened to her words, he knew what she would do. He began swimming as fast as he could, knowing he would be too late to stop her from dumping them, but not caring about that. He had other plans. He could catch glimpses of her, seemingly walking in slow motion, as she walked to the edge of the water. She dropped them in the water as he reached the bank near her, hopping out of the water and walking quickly toward her.
He made a move to grab her then, intending to pick her up and throw her in the water. He knew she would fight him viciously, but the least he could do was pay her back in kind. Speaking firmly, with no anger in his voice, "It's not fair for you to walk away with just damp clothes kitten, how about a bath?" Fighting to keep his grip on her, he scooped her up and hastily walked to the edge of the water and threw her in. A large smiled played on his face then, eager to see her response. The wound in his head had stopped bleeding now, but his head throbbed worse then ever.
Ember - April 10, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
Completely outraged by his actions, Ember burst through the surface of the water, spitting out water as she did so and gasping from the unexpected cold. Wiping her eyes quickly, she turned around to face his direction, glaring toward him with fire in her eyes. Giving the waters a hard splash, she attempted to get him wet though she was sure that it was too far. The spell of faerie fire burst with bright, hot colors before slowly dying down out. It was then that she just kept still in the water, keeping herself afloat with just the smooth kicking of her legs and the gentle waving of her arms.
How dare he! She was so angry with him that she was at a loss for words, she simply snarled a low growl and snapped away from him. Swimming in the opposite direction, she finally felt completely beaten. Nothing she had done had turned him from the lake and so she felt it best that she leave it to him for the rest of the day before she wasted the time she had left. She was growing tired and though she enjoyed the taunting that went on between them, she really did just want to lay about and relax.
"Stupid man, you can have the lake, I'll just find a better way to spend my day. It's not like I had actually enjoyed myself here in the first place and you've completely ruined the atmosphere with that wretched fish scent. It will never be the same as it was before you arrived." She mumbled mostly, but she spoke loud enough so that she was sure he could hear her. Ember didn't bother to turn and look back, she knew better than to do that by now. She couldn't put her finger on just what it was but just laying her eyes upon him antagonized her and she didn't want to stay a minute longer than she needed to now.
Mosvani - April 10, 2005 03:54 AM (GMT)
Mosvani was barely able to contain his laughter when she broke the surface, with a look of utter outrage on her face. The water she splashed came just onto the shore, but only landed on his feet. He had to work harder to contain the laughter now, barely able to keep his snicker from full blown laughter. She had a lot of spirit, but it seemed she was losing her steam now.
Hearing her defeated words took some of the mirth out of him however, as it just wasn't as fun if she wasn't snapping back at him. Still, it gave him some satisfaction to hear her admit defeat, as she had proved a worthy foe in the game they played today. He would at least offer to dry her clothes before she left, however much she had deserved being tossed in the lake.
"Come now kitten, you'll catch a cold if you walk around like that. I'll make a fire to dry our clothes before you go, it's the least I can do for the enjoyment you've given me today."A gentle laugh escaped his lips as he turned to collect sticks, not waiting for her reply. To add greater affect to his words, he stopped a moment to concentrate. Muttering bahk'tess su'acohe caused the winds to pick up in strength. Their was now a strong breeze blowing, while pleasant, would quickly chill someone who was wet. Smiling he went back to collecting wood.
He yelled so she would hear him as he collected sticks,"I imagine that breeze wouldn't feel to good while your soaked. Besides, you might even learn something kitten."Wondering if she would take the bait, he continued collecting timber to let her decide.
Ember - April 12, 2005 12:08 AM (GMT)
You'll have to tie me down before I sit around a warm, cozy fire with the likes of you. Her thoughts trailed off though she said nothing, still swimming away from him toward the other side of the lake. She appeared to be in no hurry, slowly making her way across without looking back and pretending to ignore all that he had said.
Kitten. Pressing her lips together she fought back the urge to tell him to stop calling her that. Her obvious dislike for the pet name would surely have him using it more and more often. Instead she decided it best to just ignore his comment in hopes that he'd eventually stop.
I'd show you a kitten if I wasn't all wet... Ember thought mischievously, noting that perhaps it was a compliment to her as often times kittens were cute and cuddly looking. The idea of accepting such a compliment from him at this time only had her more interested in him than she wanted to be. For a moment she wondered if she hadn't tugged at his attention after all.
Arriving at the other end of the lake, Ember reached for the land in front of her. Lifting her body out of the water, she rolled onto the ground, the weight of her drenched gown making it somewhat impossible to do so gracefully. Stretching out for a moment, she felt more of the gown's weight as she stared off into the sky.
An exhausted sigh escaped as she laid there for a minute, sure that Mosvani was enjoying the sight of her laying there in such a tired state. Positive that he was now satisfied after winning their bout of mental sparring. It would be like a man like him to enjoy such a thing I'm sure.
Rolling her head to the side in his direction, Ember gave him a look as if to tell him that she would not be staying anywhere near him, that she'd rather freeze. Still no words were uttered. There was no grin on her face now and the fire which had died out around her body did not relight as she dried this time.
Mosvani - April 13, 2005 01:29 PM (GMT)
He had a large collection of timber now, one that would be big enough to dry their clothes without much problem. Every now and then he'd cast a look her way, now laying across the lake, and found that she was now glaring at him. Even at this distance, he could see the look on her face that was an unmistakable 'no'. Shrugging, he collected some more fire wood.
The magical wind was being aided by the normal wind trying to take over now. It had picked up slightly, strong gusts every so often, but would soon return to how it was before he commanded them to strengthen. He had found a few severed tree branches, and decided to make a makeshift clothes line. Cutting some of the tall grass from a nearby meadow, he walked back to where he had deposited the timber and began assembling the clothes line.
First he dug a couple of holes with a elven dagger he pulled from somewhere in his pants, and placed one branch in each so they stood straight up. Closing in the hole, he packed it in as best he could. Now taking another branch that was long enough to reach both ends, he tied it to both branches using some of the meadow grass he had cut. Finishing, he stepped back to survey his work.
It looked rather feeble, as if one strong gust of wind might blow it over, but it seemed stable enough to support the weight of wet clothes. He was no carpenter, and thought he had done a fairly decent job. Picking up his wet clothes now, he wringed them to get any excess water out, and placed them over the line. A satisfied smile took over his lips when the line did not fall, and their would be room enough for the kitten's clothes should she accept his offer. He turned back to the timber then.
Walking up to the timber, he bent down and muttered iqua rill under his breath, and a strong flame shot forth from his finger. The magical fire quickly lit the timber, and the fire did the rest. Soon their was a nice fire blazing to warm him up. Backing up a few feet, he sat down and glanced at the woman and shrugged as if to say 'it's here, what are you gonna do now?'.
He heard a loud call from Coia then, and looked up as the bird came soaring down past him, and glided over the lake toward the woman. Intrigued, he watched intently.
Coia landed by the womans head, and began cawing at her. Hopping closer, he turned his head sideways and caw'd, almost as if asking 'what's wrong?' before hopping back towards the lake side and cawing some more at her. He repeated this a few times, as if the bird wanted her to follow him. Amused, Mosvani laughed a loud, and wondered what the woman would think of Coia's peculiar actions.
Ember - April 14, 2005 04:23 PM (GMT)
Ember was again intrigued by the way Mosvani had lit the fire, curious if she could someday learn to use the magics as he did. She sighed, still tired by the events that had happened throughout the day and looking toward the sky, she realized that she had very little of that day left. Wonderful, it will be night soon and I will be chilled to the bone with these soaked clothes. Though it hadn't taken her long to dry before, she was sure with the setting of the sun it would take her twice as long if not longer to dry this time. The cold winds that had risen before would also prove difficult to get past. More and more, Mosvani's fire was becoming appealing to her drenched state.
She then saw the phoenix, the fiery bird catching her interest as she rolled over and lifted herself from the ground. Amazing.. "What kind of bird is that anyway? He seems a bit more friendly than you." She let her eyes stray from the bird only long enough to cast the man an unimpressed glare, quickly returning to the bird who was attempting to bring her closer to the fire. Such a sweet thing, he must be empathetic to how cold I've become or will be before long.
Giving another long sigh, she picked herself up off the ground now, rubbing her hands over her bare arms which had gained goosebumps all over them due to the winds that had no calmed down once again. Much to her disdain she would have to sit with the man near the fire, though she regretted her decision the moment her feet started in his direction. I can't believe I'm going to do this. If it wasn't for that wretched wind I'd be on my way to a better evening. She was quiet as she rounded the side of the lake, her head hung low in defeat with a frown upon her face. The faint glow of faerie fire slowly beginning to come alive again.
Mosvani - April 14, 2005 06:02 PM (GMT)
He sat by the fire as the woman walked toward him, Coia flying ahead and landing by him. The bird hopped close to him and stopped, his flames emanating from him waving about as he stared into the fire. Seeing the woman was close enough to talk to now, he spoke to her as he stroked Coia's head."Cheer up kitten, their are worse things than having to share a fire with me. You can hang watever clothes you want up on the line, i think it will hold..."
"Seeing as we are goin to be spending soem more tme togethor, might as well know each others name kitten. My name is Mosvani, and my friend here name is Coia. Don't worry about the flames, they only burn people he doesn't like. I'd say he likes you."Coia was looking at her now, as if waiting for her to come and pet him. He caw'd softly at her, and Mosvani leaned back on the ground. A slight smile on his face
"It'll be dark soon, but our clothes should dry before then. The spell I used to make the fire is a simple one, so if it goes out it won't be any trouble to get it started again. I'm not sure if we can find any food other then fish here, sorry. I didn't mean to offend uou with it earlier."He wasn't sure why he had taken a liking to her, she was extremly rude, but he had found it enjoyable somehow.
The heat from the fire felt nice, his pants were no longer dripping water now, still wet, it wouldn't be too much longer before they dried. She was worse off, for all of her clothes were soaked and he didn't believe she would strip them off to allow them to dry with nothing to cover herself with. Sitting up, he looked to her again."You sure have made this day interesting kitten. I dare say I had a better day then what I had planned for."With a smile still on his face, he closed his eyes and just enjoyed the warmth of the fire. He was sure the words would ignite her temper once more, and the defeated look would be replaced by her normal self.
