Gloomwood, it was dark as always. Pheonix had only been here once before, and even with her canine-sharp senses, it was easy for her to get lost in this place. At least she wasn't alone, with Genesis at her side Pheonix didn't mind the darkness so much. Dual toned eyes scanning the darkness, Pheonix walked silently. She was not here jsut to explore this time. No, this time around Pheonix had a specific job in mind. Somehow, she'd managed to get herself hired out as a hunter. Her first task, was to find an Umbra that had been injured by rather inept archer. All he'd managed to do was severly wound the large feline. And while the arrow to the cat's chest hadn't killed it, the animal was definetly suffering. There wasn't any way to save the poor creature, and so the best course of action would be to mercifully put it out of it's misery.
It didn't take long for Pheonix to find the trail of the cat again. Both her and the wolf by her side had found a trail of blood, and quickly identifed it as the animal's in question. Edging through the dense underbrush, Pheonix followed the blood trail. By the looks of the pawprints in the dirt, the cat was really on it's last legs ... so to speak. After a while, Pheonix motioned for Genesis to stop, and so the wolf did. Peering through the trees and making sure her scent could not be caught by the Umbra, Pheonix drew her katana, and readied herself for the fight ahead. She knew that although it was hurt, the Umbra would still be a tough opponent. Animals do some crazy things when they are near death. This, Pheonix knew.
Her target was much larger than Pheonix herself was. A black, older Umbra that had never been caught nor tamed. After a moment of preperation, Pheonix walked slowly out of the brush. As soon as she emerged, the Umbra attack. Pheonix quickly sidestepped, and her ears quivered at the rush of air let in the cat's path. "Not fast enough, kitty." Pheonix muttered, quickly turning around so that the Umbra would not attack her from behind.
Again the cat attacked, and Pheonix barely missed getting hit by a huge, clawed forepaw. In passing, Pheonix brought her katana up and brought the blade across the giant cat's left side. The feline landed, and stumbled back to it's feet. Whirling around the Umbra swiped another paw. This one managed to catch Pheonix at the back of her leg, and though it hurt Pheonix jumped back to avoid another swipe. The wolf hiding in the brush, gave a bark of encouragement to Pheonix. "'S'all right, Gen. I'm fine." Limping just slightly, Pheonix took a few steps back. "Here, kitty, kitty ...." As if on cue, the cat leapt again, And Pheonix ducked low. As the Umbra passed over head, Pheonix rammed her katana upwards. Rolling out of the way, Pheonix grinned victoriously to herself.
Her sensitive hearing picking up on the Umbra's breathing. It slowed, bit by bit and after a few minutes, stopped. Walking forward, Pheonix favored her hurt leg. Drawing her katana from the feline's body, Pheonix gave a low whistle. As soon as the sound was emitted, Genesis emerged from the brush as well. "'E is bigger than I was told, huh Gen?" If a wolf could nod in agreement, that was just what Genesis did.
Pheonix decided she could take a rest now. Pulling up a pant's leg, Pheonix winced slightly. The claws left in her leg had ran pretty deep. Pheonix cursed herself for her own carelessness. Not even the minor heal spell Pheonix knew could heal that wound completly. "Gen. Bring me my pack there will you?" Immiditealy the wolf ran back into the brush. After a bit of sniffing around, he came back to Pheonix with a brown bag in his maw. Dropping it at Pheonix's feet, the canine sat. "Thanks." Digging throughher pack, Pheonix took a scrap of cloth from it. After using the heal spell to at least help the injury a little, Pheonix tied the cloth around her leg as a precaution. Standing, Pheonix walked over to the Umbra. Placing a hand against it's muzzle, Pheonix gently ran a hand along the soft fur. "It's kind of a shame, actually but ... it was best. You think so too don't you Gen?"
