S.O.S awoke in the early hours of Sunday. He walked to the Cathedral with his Bible in hand. He cleared the church seats of rubble. He walked slowly down the row of benches and took a knee at the end of the walk way, to say a quick prayer. He stood up and continued to the front of the Cathedral.
He began to preach even though nobody sat before him. He had his Bible open in his left hand and looking down into it with his right and gesturing as he preached. His tail waved at a snail’s pace, feeling the gentle wind that blew through out the church. When he wasn’t looking down at the Bible he held in his hand, he had his eyes closed, picturing a magnificent white Cathedral with soaring ceilings that looked like they could reach the heavens, enormous stained glass windows on each wall and a great audience all directing their attention to him.
He smiled and opened his bright yellow eyes only to see a church that lay in ruin were nobody sat to listen. He continued his ceremony and closed his eyes to imagine his dream church again. He preached to whom ever would listen. Perhaps the spirits gathered to listen., or elements that surrounded the Cathedral listened. That is all he needed, he did not require a full church to preach the word of God… although it would be pleasant. So he continued passionately preaching to the nothing that was there.
There was a faint creak as a girl walked in, a long strip of black cloth wrapped over her eyes, and a pair of twisted and curled horns looped delicately about her ears, and a length of silver hair was wrapped around each.
There was a faint gleam of gold at her throat, coming from a delicate chain pulled tight around her neck, and the girl's head turned, as if she could see through the blindfold, and then, after a few moments she sat on a broken bench, her head tilting to one side as she listened to the preaching of the strange priest, a faint sheen of silver in her skin as patterns traced across her, vanishing as quickly as they appeared.
A smile drifted across her features as she listened, a hand twisting a lock of hair as she listened to the man's voice, her head moving to face around her now and again, swiveling to 'look' blankly at the broken windows and floor, then back towards the man, then around the cathedral again, and so it continued.
S.O.S, still entranced in his fantasy Cathedral did not notice the girl walk in at first. He became aware of her presents at the clatter of a chain that echoed off the walls. He opened his eyes and glance around the Cathedral. Still preaching he was overcome with joy. Somebody had finally come to listen.
He smiled and looked at this girl. He tried to hold his laughter of joy. He began to preach with more soul, putting his heart into every spoken word. Turning the pages of his Bible searching for a verse ….. “Ah… yes one of my favorite verses in the book of Psalm :Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psalm 37:4. It is basically saying is give your self to God and he will satisfy your soul with something that you really need.”
After saying that he closed his bible and looked up through the broken glass, out to the heavens. A smile took over his face. He looked down to the floor and closed his eyes to finish with a closing prayer. He looked up to the girl and walked over. “Hello madam I am Savior Of Souls, but you can call me S.O.S for short. How may I be of service to you.”
