Title: To Handle a Weapon Thrice Proper Size
Description: For Eden

Scarlet - January 29, 2005 06:05 PM (GMT)
The outdoor arena was something a tad beyond large... Holding what Scarlet could estimate over 500 fighters, it was quite a site to be seen, with just several people standing and sparing in the large grassy ring.

It would be a while before she ever attempted a spar with this lug of a weapon. After being robbed of all items, save clothing, it was difficult to get back in the swing of things when the only job you knew, required the very things you now lacked. It took several weeks of searching, but she managed to acquire for a very cheap price, a two handed sword... much to big for her height and weight.

Cast from iron, heaven forbid someone actually make a cheap sword from steel, the behemouth of all weapons weighed more than 50 pounds.

Being in the bounty bussiness, being able to manage different weapons was a gift. However, when it came to handling weapons that physically did not match, it became more of a burden than a training excersize.

Beginning with gettinv used to the weight, she practiced upper cuts, swinging the large blade into the air, and putting all her weight into stopping the speeding giant before it flew from her grasp. Next were the lunges, using both hands to steady the sword, she pressed forward with her elbows and performed jabs, foot work improving and getting used to balancing with it.

Not an twenty minutes in and she had already broken a sweat, stopping to wipe her forehead, she let the tip of the blade fall into the soft earth below, letting it stand to full potential, missing her height by just 5 inches.

Looking around, she noticed one of the larger men chuckling, and decided, without proper arms... a fight would not be the best of ideas...

Eden - January 30, 2005 01:44 AM (GMT)
Eden was walking through the Acadamy of Arms that day. He had just finished a class with the weapons master, Jarreth. Jarreth was one to teach the art of arms. He was a master and certainly new what he was doing when it came to weapons. Eden came to the opening of the great circle and saw a girl in the distance with a sword that seemed too much for her physical being to handle. Eden was curious, he stayed at the opening and watched the girl. He was surprised to see that she managaed to move it around and attempt to even make jabs of it. Eden smiled to himself and walked over that way.

The girl had set the massive sword down on the and had it stand on its own. The beast of a sword was tall and great. It moved back and forth as it was settling into the ground. He walked toward her, streching his wings to hi full span, about ten feet in length. Eden was now at a distance to where his voice was audible. He cupped his hands around his mouth to amplify his voice and called,

"Hello there! I am impressed to see a person with a persona such as yours tame this beast of a sword."

Eden was now just a few feet from her. He extended his hand to shake hers and greeted himself.

"Hello, my name is Eden Botteusai. I am a student at this acadamy. I do not see many girls trying to control such a massive sword. I am surely impressed."

Scarlet - January 30, 2005 02:00 AM (GMT)
Her hand traveled to her temples, rubbing them idly to relieve the stress of mind that she acquired at times when practicing, or even in real combat. At first she hadn't noticed the boy approach, but his yell caught her in the middle of a thought, and somewhat startled, she retained composure and turned her head in his direction.

As he yelled, she began to think of something to say, but as nothing came, she allowed him a second word, and a firm handshake before making her peace with the young man she had never seen or met.

"Eden Botteusai huh? Complicated name..." She trailed for a moment, shifting her eyes to his massive wings. "For a complicated fella...". Offering a smirk she gripped his hand firmly, giving it a good shake and respectfully looked him straight in the eye.

"Scarlet... Scarlet Valentine. Not a student at the Academy, but very fond of the training arena." Pausing once more to turn her head to look at the man who had chuckled, mocking her lack of strength to weild such a weapon. She sighed, almost noting the distress, and turning back to Eden she finished. "Although not to fond of the crowd. And I would hardly call that pathetic display, 'handling' a weapon. More like fumbling around like a baffoon who had never seen a weapon... but in my defense, I'll say the thing weighs a good 50 pounds. Cast from iron... cheap, unpolished thing. New life, new town, have to go for what you can afford right?"

She wiped the smile from her face, looking around. "So you train here Eden? How does one come about acquiring a position like that? Sign up sheet? Or do I have to pass some kind of test?" She grinned again, moving an arm up slightly, only for a moment, as if the thought of leaning on the hilt of the massive sword crossed her mind. And she ultimatly decided against it, returning to an offset composure of shifting her weight between feet.

Eden - January 30, 2005 05:44 PM (GMT)
Eden smiled at the new girl. It was impressive seeing her actually able to move the giant piece of metal in the air. Most girls of her stature would not be able to pick the thing up. He looked at the sword as it stayed in the ground and then looked over to the man who laughed at her fumbling around. Eden gave him a nasty look and thought about going over to him and teaching him a lesson. He looked back to the girl and said,

"Scarlet huh? Scarlet Valentine. I like the name. It is not as complicated as mine is but it is a nice name. Do not worry about calling my last name out. It too long and complicated to say. Just calle me Eden."

Eden looked at the sword once more and thought that it was way too big for her to use in practice. Eden gazed on past Scarlet and focused on the barrel of wooden swords. They were all of different sizes and Eden was sure that one of them would at least be fit for Scarlet. He began to make his way to them and then stopped next to Scarlet. He looked at her through the corner of his eye and said,

"Would you walk with me? There may be a practice sword here that will just fit for you. They are finely crafted wooden swords. A lot better than one would suspect... About the classes here. All you have to do is show up and they will teach you. recommend going to Jarreth's class. He is the best and certainly knows what he is doing."

Scarlet - February 11, 2005 08:05 PM (GMT)
"Jarreth..." She repeated the name aloud, glancing over to the man standing next to her. He mentioned wooden swords, and immediatly her eyes traveled to the rack. With a small smile she nodded, shutting her eyes and looking at the ground as if he had said something wrong, and she was waiting for the oppertunity to critisize. However, it wasn't quite the case. But she did have a comment rolling under her tongue, and politely kept silent until he had finished speaking.

Removing her arm from the top of the sword, she used both hands to pull it from the earth. The large blade glistened in the dull light. Its heavy iron mass attracting the attention of a few guards on break. Looking it over she shook her head and tossed it aside on the grass.

"I think... you have a point, even though I generally train only with the weapon I'm going to be using in combat... I may not be as well equiped as I usually am, and its on that note that a wooden sword may do well for now... until I work up enough strength, and or money to buy back what I lost." She let the smile fade to a dull glare in his direction, almost a challenging look.

"And what do you say to a sparring match? Friendly of course, wooden weapons only hurt for a little while after all." She said that challenging look fading to an almost cocky grin. Her head in the clouds, not having been in a good fight for a couple weeks, that adrenaline pumping through her veins pressured him to say yes. He took classes to become a better fighter, he must have a good sum of money as well as patience and persistence.

"Well what do you say Sir Eden?" She said with a mocking tone, trying to rile him up and ultimately get him to agree. "What do you say to taking on a little girl?" She said with a soft chuckle, and took off in a sprint towards the rack of wooden swords, removing two, both the same size, about 3 and a half feet in length, and a good thickeness to do some bruising damage. And demonstrating an odd formed javlin throw, she launch it towards him, handle pointed towards him, hoping he would demostrate a similar skill, or catching without wounds...

(sorry for the horriblely late and bad post lol. I'm home sick so it was the first chance I got, and the best I could do lmao.)

Eden - February 11, 2005 10:39 PM (GMT)
Eden smiled as she asked for a duel. He saw the sharp point of the blade as it was taken out of the ground. Eden looked up and took in a deep breath. He turned his head to look at the guards watching her. They were smiling as in disbelief. Eden did not mind, he just focused his attention back to Miss Valentine. A broad smile came upon Eden's face as she was trying to rile him. He looked to the ground and chuckled a little bit.

"You may be a little girl, but I do not doubt that you would be a worthy challeng. I see that you are trying to get me to spar with you. I am sorry to let you know that I am not in a sparring mood. I just wish to observe for now," said Eden.

As he said that, he brought his head back up and saw that Scarlet had already taken off to the wooden blades. He laughed to him self and agreed with her. He would spar with her for now, but he would do his best not to harm her. The blade that Scarlet threw in the air was now flying to Eden. As it came closer, he lifted his arm and caught it with one hand. The moving energy of the blade caused Eden's arm to move back. He looked at her and smiled as she was running back. Eden readied his blade and said,

"If it is a sparring match you want, then so be it."

With a smile on his face, Eden jumped into the air about fifteen feet, using his wings. He was falling with control as he had his wings guid him through the air. He came toward Scarlet and readied to swing his wooden blade.

No wasn't really an answer she took well. Well, no wasn't an answer she ever took to be honest. Sparring was something that agression was not friendly with. Pent up rage taken out in a sparring match could prove to be fatal, where no fate was intended. But rage was not the emotion built up in her blood today, for she had no hatred put towards anyone in this realm, well, perhaps no one as of yet. Her face his her job well, and her clothing hid it even better. Most of her scars unseen, save for the single gash along the curve of her cheek bone. But in truth, most who saw it assumed it was a birthmark rather than a scar.

As he took off into the air she retreated a couple feet in her advance, grinning to herself as he took charge of the assault. As his blade came in for the first swing, she paried the attack and disengaged under his left arm, moving behind him to get a word in before he had the time to attack again.

"Seems like you have the gravitational advantage. Those wings wired in? Or did they come with the set?" She said chuckling to herself and hopping back several feet.

"I like your form, using everything to your advantage, it shows you've been fighting for a while. The ability to use your wings only to the degree of hopping when needed. I'm sure you can do aerial combat well, but first, lets see how you do on the big green turf."

With that she lunged towards him, keeping the blade level with her torso, in a diagonal direction, protecting all the way across her figure, and just at the last minute she slid on her back heel bringing the false-blade in a baseball like swing towards his chest, leaving her back and upper right arm unguarded.

It was a risky and unprofessional swing, but much like the analytical three practice shots to determine conditions in most sports, this type of swing helped her determine his fighting style, which made the designated attacks more effective, if she could calculate his next move... it all seemed very mathmatical, but it was more experience than science... and what was proper assassination, without experience?

Eden - February 12, 2005 12:45 AM (GMT)
Eden was in the air and missed Scarlet as she dogded the blow. He flew a few feet in the direction of his flight and turned. As he was turning he heard Scarlet's words and her soft chuckle. He laughed himself while simultaneously turning in the air.

Eden was now facing his opponent and saw that she was hurdling toward him. Before he had anytime to make a move, the young and flixible girl slid back on her heel and made like one with a bat. She was in a swinging position perfect for making a blow to his chest.

Eden's eyes widened as he was not expecting this. He thought him self not very bright for doing this in a real battle, but he reached for the wooden blade to catch it in its motion. Eden made contact with the wood in his hand and got a firm grip of it. He reached with his other hand and had control of the blade for a split second in which he pushed down. The sword came down to push Scarlet down to the ground. When this happened, Eden bent his elbows and pushed himself off of her. He did a back flip in the air and landed on the ground with his feet. Eden stood there for a split second, letting her get up.

Scarlet - February 12, 2005 02:08 AM (GMT)
She hadn't expected him to catch it, maybe dodge it, but catch it in his palm!? She thought he was mad for a moment, but then it dawned on her yet again the sword had no blade, it was a wooden club more than it was a sword, and his mind seemed to be moving more quickly than hers at the moment.

Her eyes narrowed as she lost her balance. But her hands caught her fall and she pushed herself back up quickly as he hopped backyards, glancing over to her sword she glared back at him.

"Wooden toys are for little boys... lets play harder..." She said in almost wicked tone, a friendly spar becoming survival almost more quickly than the blink of an eye. Her hands raised in the air for a split second before she dove quickly into combat, matching his backflip with her own display of agility, several forward handsprings in his direction, but on the last attempt, she didn't land on her feet, rather directly infront of him on her hands, sliding onto her back heels sliding in the grass towars his ankles, hoping to knock him right off his feet.

If he managed to catch her glance, it was that of heartless percision. That glare of a killer frustrated with its prey. Emerald eyes glaring and black locks flaring, even through the thick bangs those orbs were still blazing like the light of day. Fighting seemed almost like a drug affect on her... it changed her, molded her to its darkened will... that murderous look turned away as she brace for impact should he fall, preparing to thrust her hands into the dirt and roll out of his way, after all, he was signifigantly bigger than she.

Eden - February 16, 2005 04:10 AM (GMT)
Eden stood there and waited to see her face. She seemed to be angered and now looked as though she was not for the common friendly spar any longer. Scarlet had a fierce look in her eyes which made Eden frown. He did not want a real fight to begin with. He came here to observe and then agreed to a friendly match. Eden quickly thought to himself for a moment on what he should do. She seemed to act as though she was not for play any more. If Eden knew any better, she wanted to harm him now. He had to do something.

Eden smield as she was falling to the ground. He thought that he had her but she caught her fall and sprung her self upwards with her hands. He was surprised at the level of agility that the little girl had. Eden felt as though he should pause for one moment and applaud her. She was an equal match to Eden, he did not expect this.

Scarlet started to perform hand springs to Eden very fast now. He was caught off guard when she landed on her hands and went for his ankles. He was knocked down before he even had time to think. That was a good and quick move that she performed then and there. Eden was on his face for a mere split second until he pushed himself up. He put one knee on the ground and leaned on his foot opposite the resting knee. He launched himself up in the air. He was about fifty feet in the air and looked down on Scarlet. The look that she had given him gave him a fright. He shook his left to right and said,

"Are you okay Scarlet? You seem akward right now. I feel as though you no longer wish to spar, but to actually go into a duel for our very lives. This I do not wish to do, especially to a female. I will practice in a spar, but I will not fight you to the death."
