Title: Flaws System [Poll]
Laoura - January 6, 2005 04:35 PM (GMT)
There is yet another new feature I have been considering adding. It is a Character Flaw system. Flaws are the opposite of Feats. There are two ways I have considering implementing the Flaws.
Idea One
Flaws are a manditory part of your character's profile. You get 2 skills, one feat, and one flaw.
Idea Two
Flaws are optional. You can volunteer to take up to 3 flaws and in return for each flaw you choose to take, you receive a free feat.
Or I could use it both ways.
I think a flaws system could make characters a little more real and possibly make some enjoyable RPing opportunities and ideas.
Example of Possible Flaws:
| QUOTE |
Allergies You are afflicted with allergies. These may be something as simple as hay fever, but the reactions to such will result in something like a huge bout of sneezing and gasping, causing a lot of noise and potentially making you more vulnerable to attack.
Ambitious You crave power. Money is nice, but being in charge of other people is your favorite thing. You are likely to be brought down by attempting a risky grab for power and failing.
Black Sheep of the Family You are an outlaw to your own house, and have been disowned by your family in the most extreme cases...in gentler cases, they haven't tossed you out, but life is no picnic. You don't really stand to gain any kind of inheritance, and you usually cannot call on your family for any kind of help. Forgiveness for whatever caused this to happen can be accomplished, but it will take years of hard work.
Clumsiness You have the unfortunate habit of dropping things, knocking things over, or tripping.
Deafness You cannot hear sound--you can feel the vibrations of very loud noises, nothing more. |
Any and all input is appreciated! :D

I like idea two more, but idea one would work if they did not have to pick from a set amount of flaws. Most people give their charaters flaws anyways.

Idea two reminds me of Vampire: The Masquerade ^^; I like it more, just because, in my mind, it makes more sense. The more flaws a person has, the more they're going to try and make themselves better at other things. I say go for it, just because I think it would be a cool idea, though I would suggest having the option where people can put their own down instead of choosing from a list, in case theirs isn't listed.

Flaws are a good idea and I say the list idea is good. I'd like to keep my utterly strange flaws also.
Example: One of my other characters (RADEUS) has a spell go haywire every time he sneezes. Usually it's the appearance changing spell, so having purple ear-hair sprout like weeds and other similar mistakes is his flaw. That and he's a skitzo(SP?) If they aren't on the flaws list, I'd really like to keep them, even if they're just small conversation starters.
VOTE: Yes for flaws, and Yes for keeping other flaws your character has that aren't on the list.

I agree that every character have to be a flaw and a third skill!

I agree with all that has been said. I like my character's flaws. :D

Odd, a third skill was never discussed Mowen.
It might be best to implement the flaw system in version one, since there will undoubtedly be flaws that do not hinder RP too much (like Black Sheep), and this will be an easy way to gain a free feat used all the time with effectively no consequence.

wow, seems like everyone likes it :) I voted yes too because that would be nice. I don't really know why I like it, I just do XD

I like the idea, it would add more realism to the Rping if different characters had flaws in them.

It seems that every one wishes to see a flaw system. Perhaps it would be better to have an idea one or idea two.

Flaws? I voted yes!
I like idea two! :D

I don't think this flaw system would work very well, seeing as characters have flaws, MUST have flaws anyway. And people want to make up their own flaws, and no one can think of every single flaw possible, so it would be easier either to not have a flaw system, or have one but let people choose whatever they wanted, not from a list. I don't think we should have one, we can just write it in profiles or something.
