Title: In a Storm

Mellthorn - January 5, 2005 05:19 AM (GMT)
A terrible storm began in the morning was raining very heavily now. Darkness was setting in quickly, as the sun was falling in the sky and being covered by dark hail clouds, which did not help. "Not a nice weather day." Mellthorn said in his mind, running across the plain, watching his foot placement among the many pieces of hail scattered about. Another hailstone struck him, this time on the thigh. It was painful, but Mowen had been in hailstorms before and he knew that to stop moving was not a good idea, well he is a half elf a race that weathers don’t affect them at all only huge storms like this one. No shelter for miles except the cave that was just ahead. So menacingly dark, but the unforgiving hailstorm was not about to let up, the cave was his only option, the wind was too strong to walk all night his endurance would not resist.

It was a short sprint to the cave, and once inside he all but collapsed against the wall. After breathing many deep breaths Mellthorn tried to take note of his surroundings. He was only within the cave far enough to be out of the hail's striking distance, and light still reached it's way into the cave, although it was a very dim and fragile light. Mellthorn noticed a piece of fabric, a light colour, or maybe even a medium tone, the light was not good enough to tell. It was obliviously a special stone, and caught on the edge of a protruding edge from the cave wall. The semi-impressionable loose rock floor seemed to have a trough through it, looking like something rather large had been drug through here. It had to be recent, the path still felt warm.

For some reason, Mellthorn made his mind up to "pass the time" following this trail, understandably, it was very dark deep within the cave, so dark that he had to feel his trail with his hands, and as that grew impossible he had found himself turned all around and confused in a large room. He gathered that it was a large room because he could hear the sound of his own breathing. Mellthorn found a solid wall and rested against it, the wall was warm, "I must be a good distance underground." Mellthorn said to himself, sighing. His breath seemed to be getting louder. A feeling of being watched crept over Mellthorn, and his breathing quickened. He slowed his breathing, but heard a very loud hiss echo throughout the room. Instantly he grabbed for his bow and in a fraction of a second he was knelt with the arrow knocked and his eye scanning what he could see, which admiringly, wasn't very far.

Mellthorn woke up in darkness, he sensed nothing around him and he felt dizzy.

Rianna Dirada - January 9, 2005 08:44 AM (GMT)
The mountains were cold and wet and generally uncomfortable, all of which were things that Rianna did not like at all. She pulled her cloak around her and shuddered, shivering in the chill air, her teeth chattering. She yelped as a rampant hailstone smashed into her leg, causing her to tumble to the ground. Growling softly, she raised herself to her knees and knelt for a moment, looking around, her eyes narrowing as she scanned the area. There had to be some place to shelter. There. A small alcove, it seemed, with a good-sized ledge over it. She leapt forward and scampered as fast as possible toward the supposed shelter, feeling several more hailstones slam into her back. A low hiss sounded at the pain, though she kept moving, her cloak billowing out behind her. The feline woman slammed against the wall beneath the ledge with a yowl, her emerald eye widening in pain. One hand gingerly reached behind her and felt the bruises on her back. After a while, her breath slowed, and she tested her bones, feeling no breaks. Only bruises, then. That was good.

Rianna peered out at the storm and sighed as the wind howled around her. She would not be safe under here for too long, that was certain. But she'd seen nowhere else, so this would have to do, for now. Lightning crackled across the sky, raising the hairs on the back of her neck as the static rippled through the air. Her head cocked to the side as she listened carefully. The balls of ice cracked against rock, splitting apart and splattering the ground with sleet. Thunder boomed, jarring her bones with its deep bass rumble. After a while, enough was enough. She pulled off her eyepatch and focused on the area nearest her to see if there was another place at all, especially now that some of the smaller hailstones had begun to be flung into her hiding place. She needed a den-hole at the very least, preferably something larger and decently protected from the wind.

She used her natural nocturnal sight to discern shapes in the darkness between lightning flashes, and came upon one place that was darker than the rest. A hole, perhaps? It looked better than this place, that was certain. She pulled the hood of her cloak over her head and crouched slightly before darting forward, running at full speed toward the dark place. Her footing slipped and she slid a little ways before regaining her balance on the slippery ground, her heavy boots crunching through the smashed ice. She practically dived into the opening, landing with a loud thump on the smooth stone floor of the cave. It didn't stop there, though, as her momentum carried her onward in a roll, depositing her down a shaft that spat her out into a small pool of cave water, which splashed everywhere and soaked her to the bone. She mewled softly and rose to her feet, staggering a little, and tried to shake herself off, to no avail. Sighing, Rianna focused on the cavern, peering into the blackness, attempting to figure out where she was. Her entire body was sore by now, either from hail or from the fall, but she no longer cared. Now her focus was on getting dry, warm, and out of here.
