Title: The whispers of the sea

Xena - October 11, 2004 06:01 PM (GMT)
In the past Xena had only heard of the sea. A far away delight, with many adventures and secrets. A story involving the sea, was soon one of her favourites. She used to dream of being on a boat, riding on the seas, she could ride a horse and her grandmother had said it was just like that, but Xena strongly disagreed. If you have ever had to sit in a crowded room with no windows or candles with hundreds of other people moaning and sobbing, with the whole room rocking, it's a good way to discribe the motion of the sea, in a sad way. Sleep, chained to another person; she used to be afraid of the ship sinking, but after a few days it would have been a miracle.

Now Xena stood there, looking out. It was late afternoon or some would say early evening. She sighed and sat down but still carried on looking at what was not there. Memories of terrible nights floated in and out of view, she could not wish for them to go away, neither could she hope for them to come. The came and went as they wished, expressing the most shocking parts most cruelly. If Xena had never experianced those things she would be just a moody teenager stealing and pickpocketing from any visitors, but no, she had been forced to grow up, in the most harshest way most people could imagine. She had suffered.

Mosvani - March 13, 2005 10:58 PM (GMT)
Their was a cool breeze in the air as Mosvani walked down the beach, admiring the view. He could smell the sea water as the waved crashed forward into the sand rhythmically, putting him at ease. Coia had pestered him this morning to travel down here, and while he wasn't sure why the pheonix had wanted him to go he certaintly appreciated the view. It was getting late in the day, and Coia had flown ahead while Mosvani took his stroll.

Stretching, he hard Coia over head calling to him. Looking up, he could see the pheonix was signaling for him to follow him. Intrigued, he headed further down the beach following the signals from the pheonix. Eventually, he saw in the distance a lone figure. As he got closer, he could see it was a young woman sitting on the beach. She had white hair and was covered in jewelry. She appeared lost in thought, and looked troubled by whatever it was she was thinking. Wondering what the bird wanted, he went to greet the woman. Coia flew down and landed on his shoulder, cawing excitedly.

"Excuse me, miss. You look as if you could use some company and my friend here seems most excited to meet you." Coia hopped down from his shoulder then, and landed infront of the woman. Turning his head to the side, he began to caw, hop forward, and caw again. Amused, Mosvani didn't know what to make of this, so instead of waiting for an invitiation he sat down to watch whatever happened.

Xena - March 16, 2005 06:22 PM (GMT)
Xena shook her head to loose the swirling mass of dark thoughts. She smiled at the stranger. "Sit down." She said, a little too late, as he sat down. Her smile widened as she watched the bird (she didn't know it was a phoenix) jump in front of her. A faint darkness was still at the back of her mind, always to be there until she confronted her problems. The beautiful rhythm of the waves made her shudder, her eyes clouded and her head swirled. A nauseous feeling filled her, and she stood up abruptly, shaking her head to clear away the pounding in her ears. After a couple of deep breaths she sat down, feeling a lot better. “Eh…sorry. My name is Xena. That’s a beautiful bird you have there, sir, might I ask his name?” She said, watching the bird with a fascination unknown to her. Her white hair was picked up by the wind, strands swirled in front of her face. The hazy sun beat down on them, reflected by Xena’s jewelry.

Mosvani - March 26, 2005 09:39 PM (GMT)
Mosvani watched her smile at Coia, seemingly entertained by his actions. The smile didn't seem to reach her eyes however, and they looked dark and lonely. He was taken with concern when she stood up suddenly, shuddering and shaking her head as if she could will whatever was bothering her away.

She began taking deep breaths, and the shuddering stopped. She sat down then, looking as tho she had gotten whatever had taken a hold of her under control for the time being. He wondered what had brought it on, but thought it better not to ask her since she seemed to be doing better now. She spoke to him then

“Eh…sorry. My name is Xena. That’s a beautiful bird you have there, sir, might I ask his name?” He smiled then, Coia had that affect on a lot of people. "His name is Coia, and you may call me Streea Xena. He's been a friend to me for most of my life."

He looked out to the ocean, watching the waves roll up onto the coast. The sound was soothing to him, and was making him slightly drowsy.
"Isn't the water magnificent? It's beauty is seductive, it's wrath inescapable. Few sights can be as serene or chaotic as the ocean is."

He layed back in the sand then, feeling the callous sand on his leathery wings. The wind blew again then, spraying more mist toward them. Lazily he spoke again, "So what brings you here today Xena?" Coia edged closer to her then, cooing softly for her to pet him. "He asks that you pet him. Don't be afraid of the flames, they only burn if he wants them too."

Xena - March 27, 2005 01:48 PM (GMT)
‘Streea’ Interesting name. It reminded her of her old home, where names were everything. High-status people (like herself) had long and complicated names; one of her second cousins had 14 middle names. Also, Coia was a nice name, in a way it suited the phoenix well. (Though she still didn’t know that the entrancing bird was a phoenix.) Xena watched Streea, his words made her think. In a way, yes, the sea was magnificent, her changing moods so delicate yet when she decided on how she wanted to say ‘hello’ to someone.

“Yeah…” Xena murmured, not wanting to seem rude or very enthusiastic. She cocked her head slightly to one side and watched him lay back. His wings were most interesting, never had she seen someone living with wings. Of course, in books, there were always the angels and demons, but he wasn’t like them either. “The sea calls.” Xena said plainly. What else could she say? In a way it was true, she wanted to see the sea without bars in front of her eyes, she wanted to see the sea as a free person. She smiled a Coia, and tentatively reached out a finger to stroke him. “He’s a special bird; I’ve never met one like him.” Xena paused, to think of the right words to say, she didn’t come up with any that fitted her question. “Is he magical?” She said foolishly, a faint blush crossed her face, fading as she forced herself to keep on stroking Coia.

Mosvani - March 27, 2005 06:38 PM (GMT)
He noticed her checking out his wings, and secretly he was pleased. Few people looked at him without suspicion in their eyes. While he had long ago come to accept it, he still did not like it. A person who wasn't suspicious or afraid of him outright was a very nice change of pace for Mosvani.

He agreed silently with what she said about the sea calling. It was a powerful voice indeed and one that you didn't want to ignore. She didn't seem to really want to talk about the sea however, so he would let that topic drop. She asked about Coia then, and he smiled slightly at her faint blush.

He replied to her with humor in his voice.
"Coia is very special indeed. He is a Pheonix, a bird of the fire Element. He is truly magnificent, is he not? He's been a friend and protector for much of my life. In fact, I can't remember a time when he hasn't been at my side." He sat up then, looking fondly at Coia who had replied to his words with cawing.

"I do not know his true age, but I do know that he is 40 years into this cycle. He will reach full maturity at 60 years. By then, he will be big enough for me to ride him if I so choose. On the 100th year, he will burst into ash and be reborn from it but a hatchling. It truly is awe inspiring to see, and it is because of that I named him Coia. It means life, you see."

He flexed his wings then, flapping them gently to get the sand off of them. Coia was indeed a precious friend to him, and as time dragged on he did worry from time to time. He had been able to find out a little about Pheonix's over the years that he wouldn't have known otherwise. Every 100 years they burst into ash, and were reborn from it. Some could last up to 1000 years old in this manor. He worried that perhaps Coia was coming to the end of his life, a thought that was enough to darken his mood. He couldn't imagine life without Coia.

<ooc: Oh yeah just a question, how on earth do you spell phoenix, cause this is the spelling my MW gives me…?? UUh...I've been busy.. Oh yeah and could we get some action into this RP, I'm not good at that sitting around talking thing...>

A phoenix. Her heart leapt. She had heard stories about them, and had always thought they were the fancies of some raving lunatic, but yet they had always been fascinating for her. Xena had always felt something more towards animals than humans; they never misunderstood you, and were always there for you, through their instincts. She smiled weakly as Coia cawed at his words. She listened to his next comment, and was even more astounded. Be reborn…amazing. Her smile widened. “Coia…It suites him well.” Xena said. It was obvious, even to someone like Xena who hadn’t easily felt love, that they were closer then friends, the bird and the man. The bond was so strong that even a fool could see it. The thought was unsettling and made Xena frown, ‘even a fool could see it..’ it made her wonder what that sort of information did to people. Slipping a few comments here and there…No. That was her old life, before the slavery, now she had started her new life, a new her, the real Xenathaia Lanthe.

“I’ve never been here before.” Xena said, surprising even herself. “A walk would be nice, now that the weather is pretty.” She added on.

(I looked it up and Phoenix is correct. I'll follow your lead on the action bit.)

Mosvani listened to her, wondering what she was thinking when she frowned but decided not to press it. Looking around, the days light wasn't quite as bright as it had been when he first walked up to her on the beach. The wind had picked up a little, coming in more frequent gusts of wind, and the weather indeed felt good. A walk would do nicely.

Standing up, he brushed some of the sand off of his pants as he answered.
"The weather is indeed good today, a walk will do nicely." Coia cawed excitedly then, and flew to his shoulder. He had long ago learned that his friends talons were indeed very sharp, and had fitted paddings under his shirt on his shoulders to allow the Phoenix to perch their. The phoenix was fast becoming to big to do it anymore, and Mosvani figured that within another couple years he would be too big to do it at all. It saddened him a little, he'd miss the contact.

Looking down the coast, he saw that it was mostly pure sand yet seashells could be seen poking out now and then. The sand itself was cooling now that the sun no longer shined so brightly upon it. Looking back at Xena, he offered her his hand to help her stand, figuring it would be rude of him to start walking without her.
"If you are ready, lets see what we might find further down the coast."

Xena - April 5, 2005 06:41 PM (GMT)
She watched his face. She watched him watching Coia. The beach was nice, a good place for a walk. The sand wasn't so hot, and the glare of the sun wasn't so bad anymore. Perhaps the water wouldn't be too cold either. Xena looked at the hand he reached out to help her up with.
The gesture surprised her; she ignored it and jumped up to her feet. Sitting crammed up in a boat, having to be ready at any second, did have its good sides. She thought, sarcastically. Her bare feet sank into the white sand; her white robe was long and thin, good for a warm day.

The white material covered her from her shoulders to her ankles. Gold dangled from her ears, her neck was decorated with various golden necklaces with rubies and sapphires. Her wrists were covered with golden bangles and her fingers studded with rings. The gold glinted in the sun, jingling as she stood up.
Her long white hair was loose reaching to her hips, and her green eyes, sharp as ever, glittered from behind her fringe. Xena wasn't too tall, but her thin figure made her look taller than she actually was. She walked on, keeping the sea to her left, with the breeze tugging at her robe and hair.

Mosvani - April 7, 2005 07:40 PM (GMT)
Mosvani shrugged when she did not take his hand, opting to hop too her feet instead. She seemed to be glowing with how the jewels were reflecting the suns light, and he wondered what the significance of all that jewelry meant. It could be just for show, but she didn't strike him as the type to want the jewels just for the sake of having them.

He caught up to her then, walking to her right. Coia launched off his shoulder, flying high into the are and circling around. Occasionally he'd let out cries that echoed for miles around. This reminded him that it was almost time for his job, and if he hoped to make it in time, he would have to leave now. He spoke as he walked,
"I am sorry, but I do not have the time for a walk right now. I have a business matter that I must attend, and it had slipped my mind. Perhaps we will meet again Xena, until then take care of yourself."

Not waiting for a response, he unfurled his wings and took off into the air, leaving sand flying about as the air gushed from his wings. He flew up to Coia then, and headed south. He hoped she would be okay, but knew she would be able to take care of herself. The wind was refreshing as he flew through, and coia let out a screech as if to say good bye to the woman.
