Title: One on One

Shynthriir - October 2, 2004 03:38 PM (GMT)
Shynthriir walked into the grand and glorious arena. It seemed bigger still because of the lack of people that were there. It was empty for all but himself. This wasn't a schedualed fight, Shynthriir just wished to find someone that would practice with him. He saw no one, but sat in a corner to wait.

OOC: I have never done a duel and am not exactly sure how to do it. I've read other ones and I think I have a good idea, but I want to warn whoever replies to this topic.

Veronna Darkblade - October 2, 2004 11:42 PM (GMT)
Veronna walked into the arena, wondering if anyone was there, and when she saw someone standing there she smiled to herself. She saw the man standing in a corner and could tell he wished to battle, she got about five feet in front of the man, "Hello there" is all she said, as her eyes looked him up and down.

She wasn't sure what this man used for weapons, but whatever he used she could handle it. She held her sword in her right hand, ready for a fight.

(If your new to it, I'll go easy on you)

Shynthriir - October 3, 2004 01:04 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir stood up from where he was sitting. He pulled his cloak back and placed his hands on his hips, exposing his two scimitars in the process ( OOC: I was in the process of buying thm in the last post ). "Have you come here to fight?"

Shynthriir looked the girl he had asked the question. She was no doubt an experienced warrior, he could tell by the way she carried herself. He knew that he would be helped alot by the duel with her, if she was to accept the challenge, if it was to be any challenge for her.

Veronna Darkblade - October 3, 2004 01:24 AM (GMT)
Veronna smiled at him, an evil drow smile, she had not dueled with another like her for awhile, it would do her some good. She saw the two scimitars he had, and she snorted under her breath quietly; if she had her scimitars with her she could show him how tonuse them the right way.

"Why else am I here for? I pretty much live here, when I am not in my temple." She stared at him in the eye, wondering if he could guess who she was, though it seemed many did not know her, though she was at the arena alot, all the mortals seemed more intreasted in the new god and goddesses, though she herself had been a goddess a lot longer then them. She shook the thoughts out of her head, and started concetrating on the Drow that stood before her, though the angry thoughts burned in her eyes.

Shynthriir - October 3, 2004 01:44 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir took this time to study his opponent. She was also a Drow, he had not met one since he was abandoned as a child and would most definitly have questions for her, but they would wait. He needed to become skilled with his scimitars.

She was also a Goddess, she hinted at the fact when she said that she was not at her temple. The Goddess of what was what bothered him. "I am honored to be in the presense of a Goddess," he bowed low in respect, "But I know not what you are the Goddess of. Would you mind sharing?"

Veronna Darkblade - October 3, 2004 01:57 AM (GMT)
Veronna smiled, happy to hear him ask questions, "My name is Veronna Darkblade, I am the Goddess of Blades," she told, "Now, can I know who you are?" she asked. She started to wonder if he would know, say god of day, if he met him for the first time, it seemed everyone knew him, it seemed everyone knew most of the gods and goddesses, but she seemed to be thrown in a corner and forgotten, though she was around quite a bit.

She gripped her sword tighter with anger, but she thought of what Sargoth had done for the party, he did it all, but now since it seemed to be over, she was thrown in to the corner again, she felt so glad to be in the center of everything, but now her hate grew more and more from being stuck in that same corner day in and day out.

Shynthriir - October 3, 2004 02:19 AM (GMT)
"I am Shynthriir," he removed his hood to reveal his face. "I am sorry that I do not know who you are. I was secluded from the world for most my life and have only been roaming the lands for a little longer than a month."

Shynthriir took out his simitars and looked at their design. He was far from a master at swords. He had actually never faught with sword in his life. "I know it might be a silly request, but I have never fought with sword and request that we start out a little slow." Shynthriir though that taking it slow for the Goddess of Blades would surely still be far better than he was.

Veronna Darkblade - October 3, 2004 02:24 AM (GMT)
Veronna bowed her head slightly, "It is fine if you want to start slow, though I do think you should start with one sword, wielding two is quite diffecult, sometimes even for the masters." She didn't mind at all going slow, since he was only a beginner. She wondered what had happened with this drow's past, she would have to ask him later on.
(Sorry it's short but I have to go, I'll reply tommorow)

Shynthriir - October 3, 2004 02:32 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir knew he was skilled with one hands as much as he was the other, but this was different. He was not used to handling such weapons and saw the wisedom in the words of the Goddess; one of the things that made her a Goddess no doubt.

A scmitar, the one in his left hand, returned to it's sheath and he held the single weapon out in the right hand. He swong it in a few circles like he had seen other warriors do. It allowed him to get used to the wieght and momentum they added to an arm swing. This was going to be a most educational experience, he knew that at the start.

Veronna Darkblade - October 3, 2004 11:57 PM (GMT)
Veronna was happy when he sheathed one of his weapons, most didn't listen to her, because most were cocky fighters and thought they didn't need advice. She watched as he swung the scimitar around, and she could already tell he didn't know a lot about fighting, but that was okay, that was one reason people could come to her.

Veronna took a few steps back so she had enough room to battle. She twriled her sword around in her hand as she watched him closley. She stopped twisting it around still watching him, instead of paceing around him like she always did, she just stood there, waiting for him to start the battle, she always found it best to let the beginner do the most fighting.

Shynthriir - October 5, 2004 01:29 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir held his sword in his right hand and made sure he held it in a comfortable posision, though he didn't know exactly how he should hold it. He looked into the eyes of Veronna and felt that she wanted him to start the battle. It was for the better, he thought to himself, she was a far better fighter and could easily dominate him if she took the offensive, though he wouldn't likily to hold his for long.

Shynthriir's sword out to his side, parrall to the ground, he went to a fast walking pase to the Goddess. Once he knew his blade to be within reach, he let it swing toward her left side.

Veronna Darkblade - October 5, 2004 11:17 PM (GMT)
Veronna swung her sword down and blocked the attach easily, but right after blocking it she swung her sword downward at him, though she was not moving very fast, and it would be easy to block. She knew she was suppose to be defending but she couldn't help but strike at him.

She was a master fighter, but some didn't seem to think she was, they always thought they could beat her, all who thought that were proven wrong.
Veronna knew how to fight like a drow, and she had learned how to fight like a human.

Shynthriir - October 6, 2004 01:56 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir's attack was blocked to the side leaving his sword swinging to the outside. A sword then came upon Shynthriir's shoulder and it was comming fast. He didn't know if he could react fast enough, but his reflexes were trained to react faster than that of a normal person.

Before Shynthriir knew what he was doing, the outward motion of his sword rounded down and then up. The sound of metal on metal was heard at the block. This was not going to be easy, he reminded himself for not the first, and definitly not the last, time.

Veronna Darkblade - October 6, 2004 11:00 PM (GMT)
Veronna brought her sword back in front of her, shaking her head, "You are slow to react, my attack was not that fast and could have been blocked by a child." She kept her face straight as she talked, not showing dissapointment or anything else.

She took a few steps back and then with a quick movement she thrusted her sword at him, but that was an easy attack to avoid. She knew she should be going easier on him, but he was a drow, and the drow way was never easy
.

Shynthriir - October 6, 2004 11:44 PM (GMT)
Shynthriir was disappointed that he was not performing to the standards of the Goddess. If he was to survive in battle he would need to discipline himself and as fast as he could. He felt that he was getting better though, but didn't want to say anything against Veronna in fear of what she would do to his body, maybe even his soul, if he talked back.

Another attack from the Goddess came at him, this one a thrust. His mind went through the possibilities as fast as a mind could. Should he block? A good block might leave her off balance, but with another weapon in her other hand, she would easily have the advantage.

Shynthriir tucked into a roll, away from Veronna's other weapon, leaving the thrust to puncture only the air. He got to his feet as quickly as he got off them and Shynthriir's own weapon then went into a thrust to the Goddess' side hoping to hit something.

Veronna Darkblade - October 6, 2004 11:59 PM (GMT)
Veronna smiled to see how he avoided her attack; one of the best ways to avoid it, unless your muscles were strong enough to knock the other person off balance or knock the sword out of your opponents hand. She had a feeling another attack was coming, and when Shynthriir thrusted at her she hit the attacking sword downward towards the ground. After that she didn't try another attack she just stood there.

She was happy to find that he respected her like she should be respected, she liked that in people, especially when it was another drow, because that was how it was in the Underdark, all males listened to the females.

Shynthriir - October 7, 2004 12:12 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir's jab was easily blocked, but no less was expected from not only the Goddess of Blades but a fellow Drow, and a female at that. As his attack was blocked, he moved back, out of the reach of a counter-attack; though he had nothing to fear for she just seemed to stand still. He didn't know what was going through her head, but he wanted to ask something.

"I feel that I must ask a question of you. I know not of what house I belong, perhaps you might know?" Shynthriir wanted to ask another question, but he didn't need words for it. His left hand rested on the hilt of his other scimitar, hoping the Goddess thought he was ready to use both hands.

Veronna Darkblade - October 7, 2004 12:26 AM (GMT)
Veronna shook her head at the question, "I do not know which house you belong, I never cared about other houses." She told him still just standing there. She saw his nad reach down to his other scimitar and she smiled, "You can fight with both, but only if you think you can handle them. If you think your ready then go ahead, but if you make to many mistakes, it most likely means you are not ready for both." Veronna took a couple more steps back, watching and waiting to see what he was going to do.

She could tell in his eyes that he had several questions, some she probably couldn't answer. But the questions will have to wait until the training was over. The question about his house she didn't know, but she thought about her house; how much she had shamed it, her and her brother Jhael.

Shynthriir - October 7, 2004 01:05 AM (GMT)
Veronna didn't know his past, and he wouldn't ask her anything more, for the moment. Once he was ready to learn about his family, he would learn it. He still didn't know yet the ways of his people, something that she would definitely know. He would ask her later.

Shynthriir was glad that Veronna allowed him use of his second weapon. He knew he was just as skilled with both hands, for he held the rare feat of ambidexterity, but he knew that she knew what she was talking about. Shynthriir didn't believe that she would allow him to use both if she didn't feel him ready.

The second scimitar came from it's sheath and was held in his left hand, right other still in his right. He knew the tatcis for fighting with two weapons was different and that Veronna would not, could not, be too easy with him while he held the extra blade.

Walking forward, keeping as calm as he could, he got within reach of the Goddess. His right scimitar went up and around then down toward Veronna's left shoulder while his other blade swung out and then down, then up again in a slash aimed vertically for her front.

Veronna Darkblade - October 13, 2004 06:43 PM (GMT)
(Sorry I haven't replied for awhile... I went camping this weekend and didn't get till monday and didn't on then, and I have been busy...)

Veronna wasn't sure if he could handle both, but if he thought so then fine. When the attack came she took two large steps backward then side stepped quickly to Shynthriir right side, wich she avoided the attack all together. She let her sword slash at his side, though she knew he could block or avoid it with ease. If only she had her scimitars, she would show him what you could do with thos weapons.

(Sorry for the short post, I have a lot to get done)

Shynthriir - October 14, 2004 03:28 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir was left off-balanced when his scimitars hit nothing but the air. He wasn't disappointed by Veronna, though why would anyone, this was her area to shine. He was back at his heals to block the next attack and knew that he would be on them for awhile. He didn't see the dodge coming from his last attack and knew that was not just a mistake, but if this battle was for blood, it was a deathly mistake.

Veronna Darkblade - November 9, 2004 01:42 AM (GMT)
Veronna saw how mis balance Shynthriir was when she dodged his attack, and knew that he would not be ready for her move. As her sword swung at his side she stopped it at the last second, so the sword rested near his side. She held it there a couple seconds then backed away her sword dropping to her side.
"Next time try holding your balance better, that is the last thing you would want to happen to you in a battle."

She took a couple more steps back and stood in defense position, waiting for him.

Shynthriir - November 9, 2004 03:28 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir almost smiled as he learned his own reasoning to be that of such a fine fighter. He wiped his brow with his right arm and then looked back at Veronna. Oh how tempted he was to using his magic, but this was a training course of weapons and not of magic. He needed to control himself, another lesson that would be well taught this day. Shynthriir thought out his next attack routine as he slowly approached Veronna, his blades relaxed at his sides. When he was closing in on her, he quickened his pace. His right scimitar move out and in an arc, continuing its momentum to round into a sweap comming from the top, his other scimitar did similar, but went down to arc going up.

Veronna Darkblade - November 9, 2004 11:47 PM (GMT)
Veronna watched as the attacks came at her, they looked to be quite easy to dodge, but she knew he would most likely be ready for that, so instead she drew her dagger and threw it at him, which it might be tricky to dodge since he was using both his scimitars at once. Right when she threw it she circled around to the left, and stood ready, just in case her dagger missed. She didn't plan on killing him or anything, she just wanted to see how well he could handle something like this.

Shynthriir didn't seem very good at using both, but maybe he just used a different style then her. Veronna herself would use one to atack and one ready for blocking, but thats when she used two weapons.

Shynthriir - November 11, 2004 04:39 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir knew what his problem was. He was a better fighter that what he was showing. Was he not performing as well because he was in the presense of a fighter of such skill? That was a possibility, but was definitely no reason to slack off. He gained several abilities in his time in Imythess, inert tallents that he was able to use with no aid in magic. They were natural to him. He could move faster, react faster, his hands were training to move in motions that complimented the other.

Shynthriir's lighning-like reflexes started to kick in. He saw Veronna move her hand toward her belt where there was a dagger and knew the error in his attack quickly. He had no defenses! His reflexes saved him and he started to move to the side. A sudden feeling filled his body, he felt lighter somehow and his movements in turn became faster. Be was a few feet from the flying dagger as it passed. His hands pulling back from their original attack sequence.

He could do this, he was learning of his power. He was a better fighter than he was when he first continued. A few stepps back he took and then thought out a new routine, one that was both offensive and defensive. The two combined would surely be a powerfull combination. Shynthriir walked forward again, quickening his pace as he got close. He moved his right scimitar in a feign attack to the left hip of Veronna, keeping his left scimitar nearby, ready for a counterattack.

Veronna Darkblade - November 11, 2004 06:02 PM (GMT)
Veronna watched as Shynthriir avoided her dagger, she stopped the weapon in mid air and called it back to her. When it reached her hand she sheathed it, and watched him, waiting to see his new attack.
She could see he was figuring out a new move, but a real fighter wouldn't have to do such a thing, a real fighter would go straight into battle, knowing what her attack would be right away. But this Drow seemed somewhat new to it all, so she would have be pateint.

When he came at her she stood ready, and she was pleased to see that he was saving one of his scimitars for defense. She switched her sword to her left hand and blocked the incoming scimitar, but she knew that he still had the other in his left hand, so she drew her dagger again, ready to block if he attacked with that blade.

Shynthriir - November 11, 2004 06:32 PM (GMT)
There was little strength behind the attack and he didn't press her blocking weapon. He hoped that she put enough force behind her block that the momentum of her swing would sway her a little. Meanwhile, he pulled that right scimitar back around. If he did succeed, then she would be left with only a dagger to block the next attack, so he had to act quickly. His body started to move quicker as his hightened speed kicked in. He attacked with his left scimitar this time, for if there was to be a counter attack, it would most definitely be from the weapon she just blocked with, he needed to expect these kind of things. His left scimitar, meanwhile, went in a thrust to her chest.

Veronna Darkblade - November 11, 2004 06:51 PM (GMT)
Veronna knew he had more strength, but maybe he thought that she wasn't that strong, most unlikely, but some people were like that, not normally with her. When he pulled his right scimitar away Veronna stepped back and over when she saw the thrust coming, and now would be a good time to strike; thrusts normally left your opponent of balance, but she wasn't quite sure with Shynthriir yet, he kept quickening the pace so she wasn't sure what to expect.
Veronna side stepped to Shynthriir left and slashed out with her sword, though she wasn't sure it would work because it seemed he was getting better, but still it would be slightly hard to move away in time, or spin around and block it.

Shynthriir - November 11, 2004 09:30 PM (GMT)
Shynthriir missed his thrust, but he had to contine with the forward motion or be left greatly off-balanced. What else could he do? His body fell forward and he unthinkingly tucked into a roll. His natural tumbling abilities were begining to shine through. It was a good thing that he tucked too, for there was a blade ready for him and if he was slightly high off of the ground, it surely would have wounded him. As he was comming up from his roll, he placed his whip in its sheath for he had another weapon in mind. The moment that he had gotten back to his feet, a whip of fire was in his hands. He needed not to recite words or practice movements to cast his spells, they were ready in the blink of an eye. He had his whip, and was ready with it. He pashed it out at Veronna's legs, but still kept his other scimitar ready incase it would be needed for a defensive routine.

Veronna Darkblade - November 12, 2004 06:15 PM (GMT)
When Veronna's sword hit nothing but air, to keep her balance, she did a quick spin and was facing Shynthriir again, but this time he held a fire whip, which was magic. Veronna's eyes flashed bright red for a split second, "Most people know how a feel about magic in this kind a battle" her right hand which held her dagger began to glow with a dark red aura. She lifted up her glowing hand and sent an energy wave at Shynthriir, not one that would hurt him, just something to dispell his whip. "If you wish a magic battle you should find someone else, because I think my magic would probably kill you." She sheathed her dagger, and put her sword in her right hand. "Now we can continue if you want, but no magic this time."

Shynthriir - November 13, 2004 06:35 AM (GMT)
Very well, I was acting only on instinct. Shynthriir once again took his scimitar from his belt but this time, instead of attacking Veronna, he waited. There was more to fighting than offense. He would need to work on his defense as well, learning the ways to turn the odds to his favor.

Veronna Darkblade - November 16, 2004 12:49 AM (GMT)
Veronna smiled when she saw he wished her to attack. She ran at him, slightly to his right, her sword swung out at his side, though she knew he would probably block it. She drew her dagger in the same motion, ready to stab his side if he went to block her sword.
She always preferred two weapons then one, even if one was small, it could go to her advantage in some ways.

Shynthriir - November 16, 2004 04:20 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir saw the charge and in his mind he quickly thought everything out. If he were to block, that cursed dagger would surely find a path to his side which would be exposed with the block. A dagger was a hard weapon to block too and surely he would be hit, there had to be another way. He could move to the side, to his left, and out of the range of the attack, but to what gain. He would look like a coward and there would be no gain in the move. He then thought to move to the right, past her sword, it would proved the same effect, but opened up a new tactic. He could then block her sword from the new position at his left and puch it away from him, to her inside, she surely wouldn't be able to use her dagger and her own side would be left vulnerable, perhaps. He went with his plans on this one and moved to his left side. His left hand moved out to make contact with her sword, and then puch it away.

Veronna Darkblade - November 18, 2004 02:08 AM (GMT)
Veronna knew something like that would come, and she was ready. When Shynthriir's sword swung at her's it didn't knock away, it was solid when it hit. She quickly spun around to her left, ending up right in front of Shynthriir, but it didn't stop there; her dagger kept swinging, then it went in to a jab at his gut. And her sword came swinging down at him.

Shynthriir - November 18, 2004 02:59 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir's block was suddenly stopped. It seemed that she was expecting the attack and had already braced her sword for the force. He pulled back his sword wearily as to make sure she didn't continue the force with her sword and take it to his head; she didn't. Instaed, she moved it in a downward arch to his head, her other hand was in motion as well, her dagger coming in a thrust to his gut. He needed to excape the attack, but he was tiring from the whole ordeal and his speed was seeming to slow. He reacted well enough and move to his left, evading the sword, but the dagger left a minor cut in his side and tore a hole in his cloak. He stepped back then, meaning to end the fight. He couldn't fight any longer, his endurance was simply nothing compared to this wonderous fighter.

Veronna Darkblade - November 19, 2004 01:24 AM (GMT)
Veronna was happy she hit him, but just barely, and when she saw him step back she could tell he wished to stop the battle. She smiled wearily and let her weapons fall to her side, "You are a fine warrior Shynthriir, keep training and maybe someday you will be able to hit me." She sheathed both weapons, "Now, if you want, you can come with me and I'll buy you a drink, and maybe I can tell you a bit about where I come from, since I do not know which house you are from, I can tell you about our people."
She wasn't sure he would want to come, for all she knew he had other plans, but if he wished he could come.

Shynthriir - November 19, 2004 02:39 AM (GMT)
Shynthriir looked to the sky and then to the wound as his side. It wasn't too bad a cut, and he knew he could mend it himself. Shynthriir placed his hand on it and chanted a spell of greater healing upon himself to mend the cut to normal. It would leave a slight scar, but because he tended it quickly, it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

A drink would be a good return for the cut you gave, Shynthriir replied as he chuckled a little bit. It was almost ironic how lighthearted he was after such intese fighting with the person he was joking with. I have no plans for now and I surely would like a nice rest at some tavern.
