-Heat rised from the scolding hot sand, distorting distant images. The heat seemed to cling to the body, binding all who ventured through it with its suffocating grasp. It had been the time for mirages conjured up by the mind. Sometimes having correlation with past experiences. Though at times it seemed that the images focused upon the body's needs and wants. It had been much different in his case and he would soon find out.
Fwapped his shirt against his bare skin a few times trying to cool himself. Black tendrils of hair flowing down past his upper back. There had been no wind present by the feel of things, all had been silent. His throat was parched and in need of refreshments. His body had been without water for the past few days and now it seemed to be a stupid mistake. He was now here, amungst the silence of the desert forever to be lost within its vast planes. Shifted his dark hues up to the distance, it seemed like a tree lining and perhaps water. Slowly he shook his head trying to draw the thought from his mind, <No, it's a mirage...Don't be stupid...> With sudden alarm, his right hand snapped down across his body, bringing his digits around the hilt of his sword preparing to draw it from its scabbard. Eyes dilated trying to bring the image into context. It had been a large man, or had it been? His heart raced as he awaited sudden movements from the man, creature, or whatever it had been. Continued studying the images, scanning it up and down before finally realizing it had been a mere illusion. Nothing but a simple rock which seemed to be far more than that at first glance.
His tongue darted out between his parted lips, trailing it along his cracked and dry lips, <This heat is getting to me....I need to find shade...But where?> Cautiously his eyes trailed along the horizon trying to find some sort of image awaiting him. To no avail his body slumped forward, dropping down to his knees, right arm slipping from the hilt of his broad sword and to his side, <It's hopeless....There's nothing....No one....> And then the same image of an oasis flashed across the horizon as it had previously. The heat had distorted it somewhat, but it was still quite noticeable, <Wait....Not again...That wasn't there a few moments ago, was it? .....God....Sure, why the hell not, like its going to do me any good to just sit here.> Planted his hands down upon the sand, feeling the burning sensation against the bare skin of his palms. With a disdained grunt he forced himself up into an erect stance, staggering as he did so. His body was fatigued from the travel and his throat was parched. Like hell if he would sit here and die.
Determination carried him forward heading in the direction of the oasis. Upon nearing the oasis he slowed to a near reluctant walk, knowing it had been too good to be true, or was it?
