Title: New Job

Valdearg - September 18, 2004 10:49 PM (GMT)
Valdearg walked hurredly towards the stables of Kellen. He had been fortunate enough to be hired for a well paying job, and wanted to do a good job in it. He pulled open the stable doors, letting a beam of sunlight through into the darkness, and walked in. He was sorry that he had to deceive the man who hired him though, he didn't think that the owner of the stable would hire a dragon to watch after horses. He walked down the aisle, looking at the different horses that where there, some of them were quite large. He decided to change himself a little bit, just to make sure that he had enough control to handle some of the wilder horses. He made himself slightly taller and broader, big enough to handle just about any horse that was there. He looked around in the darkness, a smile on his face. He was going to enjoy this job.

Epona found herself awakening to the sound of the doors opening and she hissed a curse to herself, standing awkwardly. She had fallen asleep in Kailas' stall again, on a pile of straw. It was not uncommon for her and pieces of straw, the color of her hair, stuck in it and on her clothing.

Kailas nickered a good morning to her and Epona reached out to stroke her strong flanks. She knew someone else was in the barn, but wasn't sure where so she decided to wait until the other person there spoke or made more sound so that she could locate them before talking. She had embaressed herself on more than one occasion, speaking to a wall rather than the intended person.

Valdearg heard one of the horses make some noise, and wondered if anything was wrong. He swiftly walked donw the line of stalls, looking for where the noise had originated. He stopped when he saw a human in one of the stalls, where had she come from. "Hello there, what are you doing here in the stables?" Valdearg saw that she had straw stuck in her hair and clothes, but he had barely noticed the straw in her hair, for it matched the color of her hair perfectly.

He then took a look at the horse in the stall, and it was easy to see that it was in some of the strongest years of it's life. Still young enough to retain its strength, but old enough so that it was calm and wouldn't bolt at any instant. He wondered who would own such a fine horse, he was determined to find out.

She began to absently pull the straw from her hair while she talked in the direction that the man's voice came from. "I fell asleep here, sir," she said quietly. The voice was not familiar and for a moment before he had talked she thought it had been Jarlath and the fact that it wasn't was a slight surprise to her. She had expected to hear his deep voice. It threw her off that it wasn't him, as he was normally the first person in the stables, but she recovered quickly.

"Its a bad habit of mine..." she said with a slight blush. Kailas wasn't too disturbed, but instead just began munching on what was left of her hay.

Valdearg nodded at this, wondering how someone could fall asleep in a barn. He could understand falling asleep on a rock slab, because he was a dragon, but in a barn on hay. Hay was too soft, it wouldn't work for any sort of bed for a dragon. "Well, do you work here, or where you just staying here for the night?" Valdearg looked around the barn while he spoak, trying to familarize himself with the area so that he would be able to find something when he needed it.
