Title: Through the Desert

Ahren - September 18, 2004 02:17 PM (GMT)
Ahren made his way slowly on, looking around him as he walked. He had heard that there was a city out here, and had decided to stop there before continueing on his journey. He had his wings positioned to give hime some relief from the sun, but he was extremely thirsty. The air shimmered around him, making it difficult to tell what was real and what was a mirage. He had heard tales from people that had actually survived out here in the desert, and knew that he would need to find some water. He looked around, trying to spot any plants that would hold water. He didn't see anything, and looked back towards the direction he was going. There right in front of him, was a huge dune, he figured it would give him a good view of the surrounding area, and began climbing up it.

When he got to the top, he did a slow turn around, searching for anything that would help him. Ahrne didn't see anything, let alone the city he was lookign for. It was then that he thought he might be lost, and determined that he would have to find the city soon, or he would die. Suddnely, something on the horizon caught his eye, and he quickly turned to try and spot it again. There was smudge on the horizon, that was giving off flashes of light. It must be the city Ahren thought joyfully. He was about to step off towards it, when the section of dune that he was standing on collapsed, sending him sliding down the side. When he stopped moving, he realized for the first time just how tired he was, he lacked the energy even to stand. Since the dune gave him some nice shade, he decided he would rest here for a while, while he gained back some of his strength

Shynthriir - September 18, 2004 06:32 PM (GMT)
Shynthriir was walking through the desert sands looking for himself. Thoughts went through his head. Who was he? Where was he from? These answers would come in time, but he needed to wait. That was the hard part though. Waiting.

Waiting is what drives some people forward. The hope for a better future, knowing the rewards of waiting. Waiting can also cause pain. Waiting for death when you are at the hands of a killer. Waiting for something you know will happen, but doesn't seem to come yet. Shynthriir was waiting for the unknown.

He was excited at the hope of learning of his parents. His family. His heritage. Would he like it though? Was the wait worth going through if all his hopes, all his dreams, were false? The question stuck in him mind when he saw something move.

A man had fallen, or slide, down a sand dune. Shynthriir hurried to the man and asked, "Are you okay?"

Ahren - September 18, 2004 06:54 PM (GMT)
Ahrne looked at the stranger who had arrived to inquire about his health. aNother travelr through the desert he thought, wondering why people would want to travel throught this forsaken wasteland. He sat up slowly, taking his time. "I'm okay, just tired, I have been traveling for several days now, and I just fell down." Ahren looked in the direction that he had seen the flashes, wondering if it had indeed been the city. He couldn't see them anymore, he guessed he had only been able to see them from higher up. He looked up at the stranger that had appeared, and slowly stood up, using the dune as support so that he ended up leaning against the dune. "So, what brings you to this part of the desert?"

Shynthriir - September 18, 2004 07:30 PM (GMT)
Shynthriir pondered the question himself. Why was her here? Had he been mindlessly wondering though the desert for the single purpose of winding himself? Did he really expect to do such a thing in the hot desert sun? It seemed silly now.

"I was thinking about my troubled past. Why I was out in this desert thinking of such memories is beyond me. What about you though, what brings you to this hot landscape?"

Ahren - September 18, 2004 07:48 PM (GMT)
"I was on an adventure, and I was going to stop by the city that is in this desert and rest there for a few days. I thought I saw something out there, but that was when I fell and you came along." Ahren idly flapped his wings, creating a small breeze to try and cool off. It had beenmadness to try and get across this desert with no water, and if he died, he deserved it for making such a stupid decision. "What happened in your past that was troubling?" Ahren wondered for a second if the stranger would answer, it had been a personal question. Ahren would understand if the man chose not to respond to his question.

Shynthriir - September 18, 2004 08:35 PM (GMT)
"A few years after I was born, I was left in a forest; abandoned as a child. I have never known my parents but now I seek them. Their motality is unknown to me though. I know not what I will encounter along my search for my parents. To find my parents, I've been told that I must first find myself, the meaning of my life," Shynthriir looked down to the ground ashamed about his past.

Ahren - September 18, 2004 09:32 PM (GMT)
Ahren felt sorry for the past that this kind stranger had been forced to endure. At least Ahren had known his parents before they had died, this man had never had that opportunity. "I am sorry, I wish you luck in your search fot the meaning to your life." Ahren stood straight up, felling better for his rest, and decided to continue on his journey. "Would you like to join me in going to the city, you may find some key to yourself there?"

Shynthriir - September 18, 2004 10:50 PM (GMT)
Shynthriir looked around trying to find the nearest city. He saw nothing but sand. He had no clue to where he was. "I most certainly would like to go with you. I know not where to go though. I hope you know which way to start walking."

Ahren - September 18, 2004 10:54 PM (GMT)
Ahren wasn't entirely sure if it was the city he had seen, but it was worth a try. "I saw something over there, I guess we could try looking in that direction." Ahren walked out of the shadow of the dune, once again holding his wings above his head to block the sun from beating down upon him.
