Title: The Monuments' Glare
Kli_Of_Lorian - September 4, 2004 06:25 PM (GMT)
There were clicking and clocking that echoed about. It was hard to tell what it could be until it came closer, begining to be more clear. It was hoofs pounding on to the groud. A shadow sat upon the horse, covered by a dark cloak. It was night and the clouds hid just about everything in the sky except for half of the full moon. The shadow looked to the sky, the hood of the cloak dropping. There was Kli, the same curious blue grey eyes was entraced in the simple pale moon that had been there a lot lately. The horse was really a white stallion with soft fur. The bruises had healed. Kli hopped off the horse. "You've been a good boy to let me ride you.. But you really should just find an owner.. I can't keep you.. I don't have the money to feed you.." The horse neighed, shaking his head violently. Kli smiled and chuckled. "And my father said I was stubborn.."
Kli's dress was still stained with blood, but her wounds seemed to be healed. She had been staying out of sight since the orcs were still after her. Surely they wouldn't figure her to be here where she had never gone before. Her eyes looked up to the monument quietly. She fumbled back, slipping to fall on her bottom. She was startled, somehow it seemed to be staring at her. As if it was glaring at her. Okay, she was probably just a bit tierd, but she saw it. She stared, breathing hard as she held her knees. "What...?" She whispered to herself, getting up. "What is wrong with me.." She said, trying to tear her eyes from the monument but she couldn't. She stood there entranced, jaw slightly dropped as she watched it.
Ranewen - September 4, 2004 06:35 PM (GMT)
Ranewen was walking on the road to the Waterfall City. SHe hadn't been here before; or so she remembered. Beside her was something four times her size - a shadow dragon. For once, he had actually followed her. She smirked and then hopped up upon her nightmare's back. She looked around and then saw somebody stumble and fall to the ground.
Kicking Maral into a canter, she quickly went over to where the woman was. It took her a moment to realize who it was: Kli. She smiled at her couldn't help but laugh. "A little clumsy lately?" the shadowdancer asked as she dismounted from her horse and walked over by Kli.
Curiously, Renor had followed. But before either of them could see anything more of the dragon, he was human again. He looked about 17. SOmething about him just told people that he was a dragon. Perhaps it was in his eyes; maybe it was the way he acted. She didn't know, but she smiled at him and then looked over towards Kli.
"Kli, this is Ryu," she stated, using his human name. "Ryu, this is my friend Kli." He nodded in greeting and extended his hand to her.
"Good day, ma'am. How are you? Are you okay? You seem tired..." he said, looking at her closely. He then looked over at Ranewen, as if she held the answer. She shrugged her shoulders and hoped Kli would answer honestly. She knew the woman was stubborn, but she had to tell one of them what was going on. Maybe it was what happened back in Norwood Forest. Maybe she was running form somebody. She didn't know. But she did care, for once.
Kli_Of_Lorian - September 4, 2004 06:47 PM (GMT)
"Oh.. Hello Ranewen.. Nice to see you here.. Hello um... Ryu.." She said, not able to take her eyes off of the monument even for a second. "Yeah.. Tierd.. Very.. But everyone gets tierd.. Yes.. Tierd.." She said quickly, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. "Have you ever seen this thing?" She asked them quietly. The horse, meanwhile, was sniffing Ryu cautiously. He was curious of who this new person or creature was. He started to chew his hair slightly before going up to Ranewen. "He likes you I guess.." Kli said. "I'm not sure on what to name him.. I'm not sure if I should name him.. If I name him then he will never stop following me.." She said, still staring at the monument. She suddenly snapped out of it when she heard something in the distance. She jumped around and unsheathed her sword. She was alert now. She bit her lip and listened to the silence. She sighed and closed her eyes. She then sheathed her sword and looked at them. "Oh no, I'm losing it aren't I? I'm paranoid.." She said quietly.
She looked at Ryu before looking back at Ranewen. "You always seem to find me don't you?" She joked. She smiled. "How have you been? I've been fine of course.. Alert as ever.." She lied, keeping her smile. She waited for a response as the horse started to wander.
Ranewen - September 4, 2004 06:55 PM (GMT)
Ryu blinked as the horse chewed his hair. He looked to his right, where the horse was, but he was already gone, wandering off. He shook his head, trying not to laugh out loud. Ranewen, on the other hand, smiled as she talked about the horse. "I'd name him something a long the lines of Floh'l. It means 'Follower' in the Drow language. Reztorm would work, too. It means 'Along' as well in Drow." she smiled and looked back at Ryu, who was playing with his hair.
Ryu looked up as he whiped his hair free of the horse's slobber. He shuddered for a moment and then whiped it on Ranewen's shirt. "Hey! What was that for?!" she asked. He only smirked evilly and she sighed heavily, muttering, "Men..." Again, he bit his li pto keep form laughing out loud.
"You might be paranoid. It's probably just Maral or your horse out there. Maybe even one of Ranewen's familiars." He smiled and nodded his head before looking around again.
Ranewen then answered for the both of them. "We are doing fine. I've applied for the Goddess of Darkness position! Did I tell you that? So many people say i deserve to win, but I doubt I will. I have good competition going on. Lady Renate... Raven..." She began to list who applied. "But, I'll be glad for whoever does win. If I don't, I think I might become a servant at the Temple of Nature for Oppel if he needs one." She smiled and Ryu rose an eyebrow, shaking his head.
Kli_Of_Lorian - September 4, 2004 07:40 PM (GMT)
Kli smiled. "Sounds like a good name.." She said and smiled. "I'll have to think about that one.." She looked around before looking to Ryu. "Your right.. Probably just some animal or something.. Nothing to worry.." She stopped, looking around before finnishing her sentence. "about.." She said quietly. "Yeah.. A bit too paranoid.. Must be those stupid orcs that are after me.. They are making me crazy.." She said, shifting uneasily back and forth, back and forth. She sighed. "Sorry.. I'm acting like a lunatic at this moment.." She said. She looked for the stallion. She whistled and it came back. "What were you looking at huh?" She asked, even though the horse really couldn't answer. She gulped. "HAve you noticed that the Monument is always glaring at you?" She asked the others.
Ranewen - September 4, 2004 08:01 PM (GMT)
Ranewen nodded her head slightly and looked at the monument. "To be honest with you i-"
"It doesn't even look like a God. It reminds me of some sort of..."
"Demon." she smirked as she cut him off for cutting her off in the first place. Ever since she had got Ryu back from the Dragon Spine Mountains, they always were like brother and sister. Of course, it was impossible, but they always acted like they hated each other.
Ryu just rolled his eyes and looked around again. He whistled and the nightmare came. It seemed to like the dragon moreso than Ranewen. She sighed. "Stop harassing me!" she teased and playfully punched him before turning back towards Kli. "It's okay, Kli. Remember? I killed all of those Orcs. Whoever is after you won't know that they've been killed until they find the dead bodies, which after i left you, i burnt them to ashes and buried their helmets and armor and swords and the sort." She smiled.
Ryu took out an apple and chucked it at the back of Ranewen's head. It hit its target. She glared at him from the corner of her eyes and picked it up, just about to eat it. She looked over at Kli and smiled and tossed her the apple. "You can have it. I just ate."
Kli_Of_Lorian - September 6, 2004 01:59 AM (GMT)
"I know you killed them.. But there is always more on the way.." She said quietly. She sat down quietly, shifting back and forth quietly. She caught the apple. "Thanks Ranewen.." She said and gave a small smile. She looked back at the monument quietly. "It's so weird.. I just can't take my eyes off of it... Like it's trying to trick me into not paying attention to life.. Like it hates me or something. Or maybe, just maybe it's telling me something I don't understand you know?" She got up, snapping back to reality again. "Oh.. I think I've been thinking too much again.. It's probably just nothing.." She said, chuckling at herself before taking a bite from the apple and slowly eating it. She looked to them and smiled. "Come.. Let us find a place to sit and chat before I lose what is left of my mind.." She said as if she was joking, even though she was mostly a very serious matter that has come up before.
She walked over to the foot of the monument, putting a hand to the stone quietly. She felt the presence of something inside, evil, twisted. It so reminded her of the good times of being evil, and the times when she wasn't sure where to go. She suddenly let go, looking at the stallion who had taken a bite of her apple. Kli smiled very slightly, looking at him. "Hungry?" She asked and let him eat it. She didn't mind, she didn't get angry. She was silent now, staring at the monument again. She just stood there entranced again.
Ranewen - September 6, 2004 02:29 AM (GMT)
She nodded her head and grabbed Ryu by the arm and dragged him behind her. "You know, you put me through too much.. Ever since I found you, I've had bad luck. It's of your doing, isn't it, Ryu?" she teased him like usual and then looked at the entranced Kli and waved her right hadn in front of Kli's face. "Kliiiii.... Anybody hoooooome?" she asked sarcastically. She then sat on the monument and felt the evil inside. She obviously liked the statue. It was evil - just like her.
Ryu rolled his eyes at Ranewe's joke and sighed lightly, sitting down next to her as well. Bored, he pushed Ranewen over and sat by Kli. He muttered some strange language in her ear, trying to get her out of the transe. He lightly tugged on a few strands of her hair, trying to get her attention away from the statue. Once he finished muttering the words, he sat back, wondering if what he had said worked.
Kli_Of_Lorian - September 6, 2004 07:31 PM (GMT)
"It's evil.. It's a demon.. Brings back memories doesn't it.." She said quietly, as if talking to an infant. She put a hand to it, eyes not letting go of it. "So familiar yet so different it is.." She went on, eyes closing as if something had gotten into her mind very slowly. She suddenly let go of it, eyes opening. "What am I saying.. I can't be evil... I'd have to kill my friends... Just like I'd have to do if I was good.." She said quietly to herself. "Can't go there aga.." She stopped, never letting her eyes off of it. "Anyways.. You were saying?" She asked. "Oh.. Yes.. I guess I went kinda off into my own little world on you huh?" She then sat down, tearing her attention off the monument and to Ranewen and Ryu. "And you don't have to try and un-trance me. I was perfectly fine.. Just kinda.. Well.. Out of it.." She said and smiled slightly. "So.. What have you been up to? Any bracing stories you care to share with me? I'd feel happy to hear them.."
Ranewen - September 6, 2004 11:45 PM (GMT)
Ranewen and Ryu looked at one another and both shook their heads, as if saying no. "I'm afraid not... Nothing new has really happened. Unless you count that I'm a performer and one of the favorites at the Elfsong Tavern." She smiled as Ryu rolled his eyes, as if trying to ignore that fact.
"And nothing's new here. Besides the fact that she's right adn my friends are like obsessed with her. And I'm the one that has to live with her... it sucks..." he teased and lookedover at Ranewen and winked. "What about you?" he asked for both of them.
Kli_Of_Lorian - September 7, 2004 10:52 PM (GMT)
"Well, I've heard news that my father is ill..." Kli said. "Which really doesn't matter much because he never really liked me much anyway, shunned me from my home, disowned me, and probably hates me for supposedly being dead.. And since I'm not dead the head wizards have sent things to try to kill me over the past month since they don't want me to take over the throne.. And then there's the fact that I might have to go back home and risk my life to kill those creeps for my fathers sake even though I really dispise him." She said in one breath, not even realizing that she just told her that she was royal. "Yeah.. That's all.. Just trying not to get killed and trying to get my head straight so maybe I can figure what I'm going to do next.."
Ranewen - September 8, 2004 12:04 AM (GMT)
Ranewen rose her eyebrows. "You're royal?! A princess?! And your father couldn't care less! My goodness.. is he ill as in mentally ill in a mad way, or..." her voice trailed off. She nodded her head from side to side as she tried to think of sometihng else to add, but she couldn't. "Or osmething else?" Ryu finished for her and rolled his eyes at the look he had received for it. I could've said it myself.
You weren't going to.
How do you know?!
I read your mind... Like usual... Plus, you couldn't think of anything.
Kli_Of_Lorian - September 8, 2004 12:27 AM (GMT)
Kli went suddenly quiet, biting her lip hard enough to make blood draw if she wanted to. She didn't speak for a long while before answering. "Yes.. I was a princess..." She said quietly. "I was exiled though.. Didn't exactly do well in my fathers presence if you must know.. He's going to die.. At least, that's what they expect.. It's one of those uncurable diseases.. There is no known cure.. So the council wish to make sure I don't try to reclaim the throne.. And no, he's not mentally ill in any regard.. He's sick.." She said, going quiet again. She looked at them. "I should've told you earlier but I didn't want anyone to be in any danger.." She said.
Ranewen - September 8, 2004 12:46 AM (GMT)
"You have the right to hide your secrets, Kli. And now it makes much sense to me, why you were so secretive around discussions of our past." Ranewen smiled and leaned on Ryu's shoulder so she could get a better look at Kli's face. She smiled as Ryu began to bounce his shoulder, but Rae refused to let go. "Stop... it... you...stupid..." her voice trailed off as she finalyl gave in and sat back up. "So, that explains the orcs, huh? Well, if you ever need any help, just send for me." She smiled.
Kli_Of_Lorian - September 8, 2004 10:46 PM (GMT)
"You know I will Ranewen.." Kli smiled back. They had an understanding of each other. Ranewen was the only one Kli would let save her. This wasn't because Ranewen was a friend, which she most certainly was, but because Ranewen didn't pity, or feel sorry for her. And Kli never showed pity for Ranewen. It was a mutual agreement that they never had agreed on. Kli sighed before jumping a foot from the ground. She was paranoid as can be. "Something's out there, better not get caught. Something's out there to be sought. Something's out there, run and run... Somthing's out there, fun fun fun.." She said, half terrified and half smirking. She wasn't saying too loud, but more as a faint whisper as if talking to a baby. She was looking around frantically, not knowing what was out there, what to do, if she should run. She seemed to be frequently scarring herself as she did this. She then settled down after a brief spell and started to heal a small wound just to see if she still had it.
