Title: Planning the Future
Description: [P] Romanus and maybe Regis ;)
Sealamin Joysword - October 3, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
Sealamin walked into the nicely heated, empty inn. Being so early in the morning, the only people here were the ones that stayed in the actual inn, and came down for some breakfast and a chat with the barman or others staying here, before they went about their daily business. With 3 older male humans on one side, 2 elves that knew Sealamin by face and nodded at him curtly. There was also the barman behind the bar, who smiled at Sealamin as he entered. They had a long time agreement fro housing Sealamin and his trade columns when they came down.
"If you head over to the barman there, he'll give you good rates since you can be classed as part of my supply columns for now. Make sure you get your horsed stabled and looked after in the price and agreement, and then we can have a chat about my offer." Sealamin smiled at the stranger, and then realised he hadn't asked his name. Sealamin made a quick mental note to ask that as they sat down.
Romanus - October 3, 2008 07:40 PM (GMT)
Romanus walked into the inn, and noted the occupants quickly, and that his companion seemed to know a couple. He nodded when he was told about the bartender, and went over to arrange a room and stable for the night, then requested some bread and water. The bartender took his money, and Romanus went to sit down. He looked at the stranger for a moment, then back around the room. It was fairly decent sized, for such a small place, and nicely furnished. He smiled at the relative simplicity of the village. It was quite relaxing, compared to the luxurious life cities offered.
He thanked the maid and gave her a coin when she brought him his food and drink, then set to eating his bread. It was fairly decent bread, although it was nothing compared to the bread he had had days ago in the village in Norwood. He smiled, remembering that bread, then looked back towards the stranger. "Well then, I suppose first things are first. May I inquire as to your name?" It would not be prudent to take a job from a man whose name he did not know, that was just common sense.
Sealamin Joysword - October 6, 2008 05:39 PM (GMT)
Sealamin merely asked for a glass of plain water from the waitress before she dissapeared quickly and brought one back. Relaxing back in his chair, Sealamin drank a little and waited for his new friend to finish his food, he had evidently had a long journey since before dawn.
"I'm Sealamin, Sealamin Joysword," Sealamin spoke with a small smile on his face, " and what may your name be good sir? Its not polite to move to important conversations without knowing each others names."
Romanus - October 6, 2008 06:18 PM (GMT)
Romanus nodded in agreement at Sealamin's statement. "My name is Romanus. Romanus Maximus. But call me Romanus." He never had been too fond of his last name, it seemed weird to him, but he never bothered to change it. What would be the point? He took a drink of water, and awaited Sealamin to tell him of the job.
(OOC: I know it's short, but meh)
Sealamin Joysword - October 6, 2008 07:03 PM (GMT)
"Formalities are over then." Sealamin settled himself comfier into his seet, moving his shield from against his leg onto the seat next to him, for comfort. Taking a second to drink some more water before he started, Sealamin thought through what he would say.
"As a mercenary guild, the basics would be getting paid to do our funders wishes. Already I have contacts over Imythess from my job as leader of my villages defence force, so missions are already been decided upon to start, and already I have a job for Regis when I next see him." Sealamin gulped down some more water, and waved across to the barman for some more. "The organisation of it will be split into four sections of combat, magic, recon & contacting and assasination. Each, department, for want of a better word, will have 3 tiers. The new people into the guild, the dependable mercenaries, and then the elites of the department. Each department will also be run by someone, and that person will be an elite in the department."
Sealamin started thrumming his fingers on the table while he had another drink, he had spoken alot and hoped it wasnt too much for Romanus to take in. "We currently have no base to work from, but Regis said he had an idea about one place, so I'm waiting for him to get back to me. Now, thats quite a bit to take in really," Sealamin grinned again, "but do you have any questions?"
Romanus - October 6, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
He nodded slightly, understanding a bit more what was being asked. A guild? It would certainly make acquiring jobs a lot easier, and it would provide him a safe haven. "Sounds interesting enough. Since I'm a mounted fighter, which department would I fall into? I can fight well enough on foot, but my horse and I have been together for quite some time now. I couldn't stay away from him for too long, or he might come find me. He did once before. And what kind of jobs do you have lined up?" He downed the last of his water, then requested more. Once it was brought to him, he started to drink it as well. He loved water. He wondered how succesful this guild would be, and if any rival mercenary guilds would spring up. "Also, what is the guild's name?"
Sealamin Joysword - October 6, 2008 07:40 PM (GMT)
Sealamin laughed briskly, Romanus seemed to be interested, and he was evidently considering it while he was asking questions.
"Well..." Sealamin paused again, considering his reponse, "I'd put you into the combat section, being mounted or not is not nessercary, however, could dual up into the recon and communications department too since you are mounted too." Sealamin drank some more before he started talking about the jobs. There were lots of options open, and one immediate on he would need to acess within a week.
"Right now we have an assasination request from someone I know in Norwood, something in which Regis will be taking care of within a week, and I'll be waiting on the outskirts to head north quickly. I also have some contacts in Ishtan which need some jobs doing, and Kellen and the dwarven mountains and such. Once we have a base to operate from, things shouldd be much easier, as well as recruiting members. As for a name? We currently dont have one, and suggestion would be helpful." Sealamin drunk some more water as a few more punters came in. It looked like a nice day outside while the sun was rising more.
Romanus - October 6, 2008 07:47 PM (GMT)
He nodded. Combat and recon would be good, he was sure he would enjoy recon even, days out scouting alone or with another person or two perhaps. And combat was easy enough, he had spent much of his life as a gladiator or in the military, so he was far from green. "Well, sounds good to me, I'd be willing to join. If you need me for anything right away, just let me know, I'll do what I can. As for a name for the guild, it really depends on how we want to be known. If we want to be more about efficiency, or ruthlessness, or whatnot, you know what I mean?" He was certain he could think of some names, given time and description. But he also was curious as to where the base would be located at. Wherever it was, it needed to be well defendable, to guard from attack from those less enthused about their profession.
Sealamin Joysword - October 6, 2008 07:54 PM (GMT)
"Well, there is something you could help me with actually down in Norwood. There is some thing going on down there which is scaring some people, and the military is a bit busy at the moment, and cant send people out to do mundane tasks." This seemed to be going well so far, and hopefully Sealamin would have got another member for the guild.
That was something he hadnt thought of. Ruthlessness, efficiency, willingness to try any mission? Would a name really reflect stuff like that? "I'd like to consider us as efficient and trustworthy once a contract has been agreed upon. Apart from that, we can set out tomorow after I send a message to Regis and Tyrion, to Norwood if your ok with that?"
Romanus - October 6, 2008 09:44 PM (GMT)
He nodded. Back to Norwood so quickly. Ah well, such was life. "Very well, I think I can help you out. Nothing else to do, plus it's a job, so why not, eh? Let us enjoy the rest of the day then, and set out as early as possible in the morning, so we can arrive at Norwood at a reasonable time. What is it that we are going to be doing in Norwood? Don't want to head off on a mission uninformed." He drank some more water, and pondered the luck he had today. A job, a guild, a home soon enough. All was well.
Sealamin Joysword - October 8, 2008 03:07 PM (GMT)
This new fellow seemed quite eager to get some work going again quickly, and this next mission would text him, as it would be something slightly unusual, but that would add to the difficulty for them both.
"Love the eagerness," Sealamin grinned as he looked towards the door, hopefully Regis and Tyrion would both stop by soon. "Anyway, in Norwood we have some spirit or something wandering the paths through the Hauntwood Marsh, and the force have been busy and have requested me and my future guild mates to come help them out. It shouldn't be too hard, its just alot of people are frightened of the marsh really.
Sealamin thought of the time it would take to get to Norwood. He could hire a horse to travel alongside Romanus, but he could also fly for a while too, so a horse would be worth the hassel of hiring one. No. They could set of in the morning, and Sealamin could fly for a distance while Romanus rode.
"Anyway my friend, we should probably take this time to get to know each other a bit better."
Romanus - October 8, 2008 07:23 PM (GMT)
He nodded. Assignment seemed simple enough, shouldn't take too long after they actually got to Norwood. Back to the forest so quickly, it seemed. Ah well, he didn't mind, he rather liked the forest, honestly. It was peaceful there, as if the outside world didn't affect it. He wasn't so sure about Hauntwood Marsh though, hadn't ever been there before. Would find out soon enough though. He took a drink of water, and nodded in agreement. Knowing his guildmate would be a good idea, to be certain.
"Well then, would you like to tell me of yourself first, or should I tell of myself? Or perhaps we can alternate, each asking a question of the other, then answering the question posed to us. That seems like a fair enough deal, does it not?" He wouldn't mind answering questions, it was telling things from nothing that got him.
Sealamin Joysword - October 8, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
"Sounds fair enough to me." Sealamin re-arranged one of his armour straps that had just become a bit too tight. "Well originally I was leader of a small defence force for my village in the Gwilikith Mountain ranges. It was small, a mere 150 of us flying elves, with some humans and dwarves who set up business along side us for profit. We ran good trade down to Norwood and Kellen and to the Dwarven cities, and we were quite well off."
Drinking some more while he let it sink in, Sealamin took a quick break from speak before he continued. "I met Regis when he tried to steal from us, and we quickly became friends despite that, and the mercenary guild was his initial idea. Tyrion is also a flying elf from my village who has come with us to start the guild." Sealamin broke into silence again while he took some more water and then signaled across to the bar for another glass. "Thats a pretty brief history of whats been an interesting life for me really." Sealamin smirked, he had dont alot of work for his village.
Romanus - October 8, 2008 07:39 PM (GMT)
He nodded. So the elf knew of defense, that was good. He didn't here of people becoming friends very often in that situation, but he supposed since the thief was one of them, it would be good. "Well, I was enslaved at a pretty young age, 14 or 15, maybe 16. I was sold off and raised as a gladiator, one who fights to entertain others. It was always a fight to the death though, so I must have been okay since I'm still alive. Anyways, my last fight, I had become so popular that the Emperor of my country decided to fight me. However, I ended up winning. The Imperial Guard wasn't too happy about that, so I had to flee my land."
He sighed, and took a drink. "After that I came here, but left soon after, and was eventually drafted into an army, where I learned mounted combat. After quickly being promoted, something happened one night, and I left the army. I wandered about for another year or so, but then I came back here, and now here I am. Pretty brief history as well." He finished his water, then requested some more.
Sealamin Joysword - October 10, 2008 06:56 PM (GMT)
Sealamin listened while his new found member spoke about his past. Like Seala, he gave only a brief overview of what would seem to have been an interesting and eventful history. However, one thing piqued him from the history.
"So how did you actually escape? It would, I guess, be pretty dam hard." Sealamin drank some more, the morning was getting busier as more people awoke from the inn.
Romanus - October 10, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
He laughed. "Actually, escaping was rather easy. I had to kill a couple of the Guard, then climb into the spectator portion of the Coliseum. After that it was just a matter of changing into plebian clothes, and walking out the gates of the city. I had to scavenge a sword after I left though, for defense. So it was pretty simple to escape."
He thought back to his travelling through the countryside, avoiding the guards. Those had been the good times, living off the land for fear of discovery.
(OOC: Short, but yeah)
Sealamin Joysword - October 17, 2008 09:19 PM (GMT)
"You make it sound alot easier than it probably was. Escaping a whole country surely wasnt that easy." Sealamin laugh at the mans modesty. It would surely take alot of skill to escape a whole country out for your head. "I'm just going to look outside for Regis quickly, one minute mate."
Sealamin got up leaving his shield and pack at the table, hopefully Regis would be nearby, and knowing the halfling, he would probably relish the chance for a free drink on Sealamin.
Regis_Greenleaf - October 19, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
Sealamin had told Regis to meet him at the Green Gryphon a fortnight ago and Regis had promptly set of to meet him here. He hoped Sealamin had recruited yet another member for their non existing guild. Their last contact had been slightly cocky but it had all worked out well in the end.
Regis hustled down the street with the taste of free beer on his lips. Anyway, the beer better be free or Regis would have to give Seala a nice little talk. Bounding up to the door of the inn, Regis slammed right into his favorite flying elf.
"Good day Seala," said Regis with a cute little laugh as he picked himself up from the floor. "I hear you recruited a new guild member or at least you need my tongue and elegant speech to capture him."
Regis burst into laughter, literally laughing at himself.
Sealamin Joysword - October 22, 2008 08:41 PM (GMT)
Sealamin laughed lightly at Regis. He had such a high opinion of himself, when in fact Sealamin had already persuaded Romanus to join the guild effort, not that he needed much persuading really. Regis however, always seemed to have this little bit of luck and unluck, in that he either always seemed to be around when needed, but then always seemed to be around when something bad was happening, and always seemed to get involved.
"Come on Regis, meet our newest member Romanus, a mounted combatant who is keen to join the guild. And the first round of drinks are on you too." Sealamni quickly entered the inn again before Regis could answer back and sat next to Romanus with a smile on his face at dropping Regis into buying the first round.
Regis_Greenleaf - October 22, 2008 08:49 PM (GMT)
Regis couldn't believe it one bit. Seala had placed the first round of drinks on Regis' nearly dry coffers. Pay back was defiantly necessary. Regis hands began moving in a rapid pattern while his mouth uttered a few syllables. His body slowly faded in color before he was invisible. Even if a man had been standing a few feet away, he would have never noticed the halfling standing right next to him. Cat in hand, Regis dashed through the inn's door when another patron left.
Regis immediately noticed Seala and the other man named Romanus. Regis would look into Romanus' skills later but for now, revenge was on the top of his mind. Sneaking up behind Seala, Regis poured the small cat right into his lap right after he had flicked it's tummy. Flicking it's tummy seemed to irate it greatly.
Pay backs a cool person Regis thought to himself as he saw the look on Romanus' face as the angry kitten appeared out of nowhere and started to thrash about Seala's lap. Regis only had to worry about the possibility that Joysword might kill the cute little kitty. Regis doubted that his cute little pet would enjoy becoming Seala's next meal.
Romanus - October 23, 2008 03:10 AM (GMT)
Romanus wondered what was up with Sealamin, when suddenly a kitten appeared thrashing in his lap. After initial shock, Romanus couldn't help but start laughing at the sight. The kitten appeared quite aggravated, and was surely causing Sealamin some amount of discomfort. "So, Sealamin, where'd you get the kitten from? Nice pet, I don't think it likes you too much though." Romanus said this between laughing, and started anew once he had finished. This was quite funny to him, but he really wasn't sure why.
Sealamin Joysword - October 23, 2008 07:13 PM (GMT)
Sealamin's victory over Regis was short lived. Despite Regis still being forced to get the drinks in, dropping the pet on Sealamin while invisible, while Sealamin despised cats, was a good comback. His face frowned in disgust, Sealamin pushed the angry cat onto the floor as he swore viciously.
"God dammit Regis, why dont you go and hit the barman while your at it to make a bigger commotion." Sealamin looked at the cat in disgust and relaxed his hand from where it was lying on his sword hilt. "Anyway Romanus, meet Regis. Regis meet Romanus. As you can see, he is an annoying bugger." Sealamin shook his head at the annoying Regis. "I'll have an ale and then whatever Romanus wants Regis." Sealamin's smile came back to his face for now.
Regis_Greenleaf - October 23, 2008 07:43 PM (GMT)
Regis victory involving his pet kitten and Seala was short lived, however great the revenge was. He waddled over to the bar where he order Seala and Romanus' drinks and then walked back.
"You can get them yourself, you asshat," grumbled Regis before sitting down. He nodded towards Romanus, "I here from Seala that your quite the accomplished horseman, he would make a fine scout."
Regis surveyed Romanus as he took a sip from his pint of beer. He was a sturdy man around the same height of Sealamin Joysword. He would certainly be a grand addition to the guild but Regis wasn't sure why he was in fact joining the guild. Normally, mercenaries were sly and cunning combatants who had lost their way down life's road. This didn't seem to be the case for Romanus but Regis decided that questioning him now wouldn't help either.
Regis directed his next question at Sealamin.
"So whats the count on members in our little guildy," Regis said as he petted the small kitten. The kitten was to be named Seala as Regis was sure it would infuriate Joysword that the kitten he hated so much had an all to similar name as him.
Sealamin Joysword - October 28, 2008 07:07 PM (GMT)
Sealamin shuck his head while he glared at the stupid kitten. If that thing was going to be wandering around the guild quarters, then Sealamin would have to kick it out or something. Looking up, Sealamin waved at the bartender to bring the drinks over, since Regis had paid for them but not carried them over.
"Well with me, you and Tyrion to start, and now Romanus, and a few other maybes, I think we can be looking at around double figures soon hopefully. I'd like 10, but I want to get a known head quarters up and running whether we have 10 members anyway. And regarding Romanus, I was thinking more of keeping him as a messenger and someone to hold in reserve to strike quickly if needed. That sort of area of combat."
Sealamin leaned back and relaxed while he drank some more water.
