Title: The Wandering Rouge

OoC: This is my first post so it might not be the best thing ever. I'm sorry if I missed any mistakes when I edited it.

---------------

The dim morning fog spread throughout the trees creating a gray layer among the tall trunks. The ray from the dawn sun poked through the gaps in the leaves, clearing way small patches of the grayness. The stillness of the morning was only disturbed by the sound of birds waking and tuning their little voices for their morning serenades. There was another sound that cut through the morning air; the occasional sound of a twig snapping underfoot and a small purring sound.

The sound makers moved swiftly among the trees, passing through the fog and winding through the trees until they reached a stream where a bit of the morning sun had scarred off the fog. The sun revealed a woman and a cat to be the guilty party of the noises. The woman kneeled down and splashed the stream’s cold water on her face. Her long black hair slipped from behind her shoulders and fell into the water. The act drank some of the water before turning to her mistress. Rose, where are we going today?

The woman rubbed her eyes before answering, “You’re the one who hauled me out of bed at this god forsaken hour. Don’t you have something you want to do?”

Besides annoy you, not really.

She glared at the cat, “So this is why people say black cats are unlucky.” She stood up and brushed off her knees before looking around her. The sun had risen higher and the fog was disbursing along with the cool night air at a fast pace. “It’s going to be hotter today,” Rose commented. “Why don’t we find a cool lake to swim in?”

Sounds lovely.

Rose looked back at the cat and chuckled, “A cat that likes water. How amusing.”

I’m not just any cat. Familiars like me often vary from the normal animal.

“Like the fact we can communicate in normal English?”

Stating the oblivious first of course but yes that’s one example.

“Not the most obvious, just the most troublesome. You should recall the hour long argument that we had about your name?”

Despite your complaints you know that we’re meant for each other. Our personalities, out likes, even out appearances are similar.

Rose knew that. Indeed they were very similar, including in looks. Her black hair matched the cat’s black coat and they both had piercing gold eyes. Even the pointed ears were there, thanks to the little elf blood Rose possessed. “You forgot the fact that both our names are nouns, Twilight.”

She purred in response. Rose set off, following the stream. “We should a lake soon, best we get going. Com on Twi!” Twi followed behind her, still purring.

OoC: lol, it's fine. better than alot around here.

Cain walked calmly through the forest, hood pulled down, sword swinging in it's sheath freely beneath his cloak. It scraped along the dirt every once in a while, making a small brushing sound. These noises were drowned out by a much larger racket, however, the scampering and snapping twigs made by the small feet of Cassie, a six-year old human. Cain watched her with a softness in his eyes, much out of character. Usually, Cain was a hard man, even an evil man, enjoying death. Despite being a half-angel, he knew there was no way to save himself from his life.

But Cassie was his chance. She was young and innocent, and god help the villain that tries to get in the way of that. Cain was very protective of her, perhaps overly so. The little girl hummed as she walked, bending over to pick a dandelion and brought it over to Cain.

He looked at it for a moment and smiled, even a small chuckle escaping his lips as he set it in her brown hair. “Keep it safe for me.” He said to her, the little girl beaming. She hugged him and the angel returned it with one hand.

He was relaxed here, in the forest. Nobody ever traveled these woods, and if they did, he could take care of them easily. Cassie tripped over a root and grunted as she fell on the ground. Cain rushed over and saw that a root was wrapped around her ankle. She might have hurt it. Cain stood up and reached his hand towards the root. A faint rattling could be heard.

Cain could swear he heard voices, but put it out of mind as he closed his eyes. A dagger-sized blade shot out of his large sleeve, pulling a chain behind it. It struck like a snake, cutting through the root with near perfect precision. Cain smiled and knelt down, chain whip resting on the ground. He picked her up in his arms and carried her, whip retreating back into his sleeve, wrapping itself around his waist.

Cain hugged her close as he walked towards the water, Cassie making an effort not to cry. She had twisted it and wanted to be tough like her adoptive father.

Cain broke through a clump of brush and immediately saw a woman not too far away, accompanied by a cat. Cain stood and watched her from a couple yards, trying to decide if she was a threat or not.

Rose and Twi had been walking along the stream for a while now. The sun had fully risen and all the fog was gone. Also gone was the cool night air and in its place was the new day’s humidity. Rose had taken off her socks and boot and was now hopping from rock to rock in the stream. “I hope we reach a lake soon,” Rose murmured as she balanced on a rock with one foot.

We will, Rose, but I’m more worried about you falling into the- Twi suddenly stopped speaking and began to sniff the air.

“What is it?” Rose asked, setting her other foot down on the rock.

I smell someone...there’s one, no two! She sniffed again, And one them is a half breed, but not an elvish one.

Rose tensed in surprise. Another half breed! She had never met another one, even another half-elf. ‘I wonder what kind he is,’ she thought. “What of the other?” she asked.

I’m pretty sure it’s a human. Rose jumped onto the stream’s bank and pulled on her boots. Are we going to look for them?

“No,” she stated, standing. “I, coming from another half breed’s perspective, avoid people. We are outcasts, even sometimes in our own kind’s eyes. We won’t look for them. We’ll just see if we cross their path.” She began to walk along the stream’s banks. Listening intently now to the forests sounds.

She began to hear the noises of the other group. The occasional brushing sound against gravel, ‘Most likely a sword’ she mentally noted this. There was also the more often heard sound of scampering of some sort. Like someone was moving quickly back and forth along a path.

Rose saw a gravel road ahead, the stream cutting right through it. “They’ll pass by here,” She said. “We’ll wait for them to-” she was cut off by a yelping noise from further down the path. It sounded like that of a child.

I’m guessing the half-breed’s companion is a human child. Perhaps their own child.

Rose didn’t answer as she saw a man carrying a little girl in his arms. She stood sill, like a rabbit pretending to be a bush. When the man saw her he gave her a cautious look. She returned it to him, but her attention soon turned to the little girl. She saw that the girl was in pain but held it in. ‘Tough little one’ she thought.

She took a step toward him, causing him to thence a bit more. She raised her hands in a peaceful matter. “We seek no quarrel with you, sir. We are but wanderers. If you wish I will heal the child for you. But only if you wish so. If not we’ll be on our way and forget we ever saw you both.

“Which do you choose?” she finished.

Cain - July 26, 2008 05:33 PM (GMT)
The sound of chains rattling sounded and a blade-tipped chain whip poked out of his sleeve, held in midair. He watched her carefully, making sure she was not a threat. She held her hands up and stepped towards him. The chain moved again, sliding out a bit farther.

She made her offer and Cain was considering it, looking at Cassie. She turned her head and looked at him, flower falling out of her hair. She gave him a pleading look and Cain sighed, feeling a pang in his heart.

“Very well.” He said with a resigned tone. The chain slid fully out, blade aimed on Rose, ready to strike if she tried anything funny, especially if she hurt Cassie in any way.

Cain bent down a bit, holding Cassie a little more towards the girl. Cassie looked at Twi and smiled. “Cat.” She said in her young, innocent voice. Cain smiled at her.

Looking back at Rose, he studied her. He found her eyes most intriguing, a strange gold color, not too common. He looked down at the cat and recognized a hint of intelligence there, not quite a human one, but it was smarter than the average housecat. Cain looked at the two, face stony once more.

MooCola - July 26, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
She nodded her head when he accepted her offer and slowly moved toward them, all the while her eyes flicking between the blade-tipped chain and the man wielding the chain. She knelt next to the child and held her hands just above the wound. She murmured a few words under her breath and her hands began glowed a gold color along with her injured area.

As she performed the spell she looked over the man and child. ‘No similarities between appearances. I guess she’s not his.’ She looked him over more closely, his icy eyes burning holes into her. Despite his cold demeanor there was a sort of beauty and there was something else. A kind of holy aura that was mostly masked by his iciness drifted around him.

She looked away and back at her work, not able to look him in the eye. ‘I want to ask him about being a half-breed. But it would seem that he’s not in the mood for conversation.’ Her eyes flicked to his weapon. ‘But I can’t just drop it; he’s the first one I’ve ever met.’

While she pondered this Twi had stared rubbing her head against the girl’s other leg, purring. While it may look like she was just being a cat Twi was really trying to take in as much of Cain’s sent as possible. Trying to figure out what she was. ‘Hopefully’ the cat thought ‘We’ll be able to figure it out with him slicing us up.’

When Rose finished she said to Cain, “Since I’m here, do you want me to heal anything else.” She paused and took a deep breath before finishing with, “And…I have a question for you that I must ask you. That I can't not ask”

Cain - July 26, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
Cain watched the girl steadily, chain faltering. Perhaps, as strange as it seems, she was doing it simply for the sake of helping Cassie?

The idea was alien to Cain, whose years were full of experience with men and women doing things with an alternate motive, to get at him. After she finished healing Cassie, he set her down. Cassie put her foot down hesitantly, feeling around a bit.

The girl laughed and went to hug rose. “Thank you!” She said happily, in her youthful, girlish voice. Cain smiled at her for only a second, face returning to it's watchful state, still watching rose, but somewhat softer. Perhaps... perhaps not everyone was as bad as others?

Cassie went to pet the cat, smiling at it and humming. Cain let the chain drop limp for a second, pulling it back in and letting it wrap itself around his torso. Looking at rose he gave her the briefest of smiles. “ Thank you for helping her. You can ask.” He said with a nod.

MooCola - July 27, 2008 01:12 AM (GMT)
Rose's happiness at his consent couldn’t be held in. She knew that if showed on her face, but she didn’t care. She knew not to expect much from this, but just an answer to this question was all she needed. Just to know that she wasn’t alone and the only one like her in this world. “What type of half breed are you?” she asked.

Cain - July 27, 2008 03:44 AM (GMT)
Cain watched Rose for a moment, thinking over it. He looked at her and gave a weak smile, not used to making them very well. Cassie simply brought it out in him. He nodded once, having decided.

“Angel and human.” Cain didn't have to ask to know what she was. It was clear enough, having seen so many of them. Pretty humans, and somewhat rugged elves. Half elves were a little more common than their reputation made them seem.

He stretched his wings, letting them slide from the slits cut in his thin brown robe. Their pearly glow seemed to give off an aura, his full appearance giving sort of a peaceful, kind soul. The thought brought a genuine smirk to his face, tugging at the corner of his mouth.

In truth, Cain was only so controlled and unemotional when he had Cassie with him. If he left her with the church to take care of her, on holy ground, it was then he allowed himself the temptations so often taken by mortals.

“What is your name?” He asked.

MooCola - July 27, 2008 03:15 PM (GMT)
Rose blinked in surprise, she had never heard of a half-angel before. She stared in awe at his wings, entranced by their glory and beauty. She pulled her eyes away to look Cain in the face. “Since you showed me your wings,” she said and pulled her hair behind her ears to reveal their points. “If you haven’t already guessed I’m a half-elf.”

She then closed her eyes and released some her aura and the forest around them seems to become lighter. The birds in the trees that had bee chirping loudly and out of sync suddenly calmed and began to make a different sound. It was like they were humming, all in sync. She opened her eyes and looked back at Cain. “And as for my name,” she said going into a slight bow, “I am Rose; daughter of a human Shaman and a Moon Elf Sorcerer.

Cain - July 27, 2008 03:32 PM (GMT)
Cain gave her a steady smile, nodding when she pulled her hair back. He flapped his wings slowly, idly. A steady breeze began as he did so, making Cassie smile. He looked at her as she said her name. “Nice to meet you, Rose.” He said.

“My name is Cain Seraph Azazel, Son of an angel and a human Paladin.” He chuckled as he watched Cassie pet the cat. “This is Cassie. My... daughter of sorts.” He chuckled a little.

“So what brings you here?” He asked her calmly, very unused to acting so kindly. Usually he was cold and emotionless, untrusting. But this one seemed only to want to help him, and had healed Cassie. He felt in her debt, and o repay it he would simply be friendly.

MooCola - July 27, 2008 10:42 PM (GMT)
Rose smiled. “This is where I live. I’m a Rouge that wanders from place to place in this forest. It’s very calming. I take it upon myself to deal with any who try to off balance this forest’s aura.” She looked around at the trees before continuing, “By that I mean those that bring a dead aura in to a place of life. You may kill the animals, I just don’t like it when people disturb the peace around me by raising the dead or something like that.

" I also have a pass time of jumping caravans of rich people who pass through here. They bring good money. But you don't need to worry about me doing that to you." She laughed nervously glancing at his weapons before continuing. Right now my companion, Twi,” she pointed at the cat. “And I are following this stream. It’s going to be a hot day so we’re going to spend it at the lake it will lead us to.

"So what of you, sir? What brings you and your sort-of-daughter to this place?”
