There were three well made wagons traveling along the most level of the paths out of the Dark Lands. The first wagon had a yellow trim along it and the Drow who drove it also wore yellow to match her eyes. The only name she would be called was Topaz and she was talking to one of the dark wolf riders with them. She was in a good mood.
The last wagon was built the same and the trim on it was blue. The Drow in charge of that wagon was Sapphire, but she didn't ride in the wagon. She rode along side it on a wolf herself. Her eyes and the trim of her armor were pure blue, as were the tips of her hair. She didn't say a single word...
Then there was her wagon with its red trim. She didn't wear red though. It would simply be too redundant with her red hair. Instead she wore the white robe the priestesses had given her. She sat just inside her wagon. She was busy thinking as she looked across the wagon at the young female drider who was busy weaving away. Ruby watched the drider move, how she worked and thought about how unfair it was for herself to punished like this. It was not her fault that Lolth had grown angry because some families couldn't keep track of their own members! There weren't any from her family! But her Matriarch still gave her the job. She had been volunteered against her will and because it was the Matriarch... she didn't have a choice. She and these two others from different families had all been taken before Lolth’s priestesses, given their orders, wagons, 45 wolf riders as guards, half a dozen drider, and the promise that if they should come back empty handed; they would join the next set of wagons out of the Dark Lands as driders themselves!
She decided she knew why her Matriarch had sent her when the call came out. Part of it was politics, yes, but it was no doubt because Ruby had been above many times before. She already knew most of the land and she was able to adapt fairly quickly to seeing in daylight because of that. She could well have a distinct advantage over these other two.
The wagons began to slow then and she sat up strength, and then stood. Ruby looked out the front of the wagon and sighed. They had made it to the wide entrance. Sunlight was lightly filtering through the overgrowth that shielded the entrance. They would wait here until the sun had set. As she climbed up to the front she saw a pair of wolf riders head up to the entrance. No doubt to see where the sun was so they would know how long the wait would be. With nothing left to do, she sat down next to the young slave driving her wagon. She was half-human and had apparently been born of a human slave down in the Dark Lands. She spoke fluently and was very well behaved. Ruby liked the girl. Fast and efficient. Worth a lot no doubt. Her skin was a little light for a drow though and her hair was blond instead of white. Ruby gave a mental shrug and looked around the opening inside the entrance.
Thomas had gotten himself losti nthe caverns below the earth. He was meaning to try and find a Drow village, or something, and hoped it would have more goods in it then the common houses in Taras and other places of the likes. Even though stealing from a wizard had its fun, it would be more fun to steal from a few Drow houses, especially with all the neat little things they had.
As he was wandering aimlessly, mainly bored, not even starving, or thirsty... well, maybe a little thirsty for blood, and his dark eyes seemed tinted with red, but it was barely noticeable. He's only been here for a couple days, and before coming here he had gotten a nice meal. But, he now thought the idea of coming down here was terrible.
The vampire elf sighed, annoyed at himself for getting lost. As he went though, he noticed something up ahead in the darkness. Something was moving, and there were creaks like wheels. Tom stopped in his tracks, and stood still listening, before a wide grin spread over his face. He started heading towards the wagons, that slowly became more clearer. He slipped through the shadows, as silent as he could, it was near impossible to hear his footsteps.
Tom wore black, but over his tunic and trousers, he wore dark leather armor, that was bound tightly around him to let him bend around more easily. His long black hair was pulled back into a ponytail, but few strands were shorter and fell over his eyes. His skin was alarmingly pale, almost white.
He soon made it to the wagons, and followed them for a while, staying out of sight, and far enough so the wolf riders won't hear him and try to find him. As he followed, he thought he was seeing familiar territory, and was happy to see the opening ahead to the surface. He smiled, happy about that. The wagons stopped, and not much happened. He saw two riders going to the opening, and he saw a nice time to sneak over to a wagon and see what goods these people have.
He slid through the shadows almost like one himself to a wagon (Ruby's), and was about to peek in and see if anyone was in there, but he heard a noise behind him, like someone coming. being thrown suddenly into near panic, Tom jumped into the wagon easily to hide from the source of the noise, only to stare terrified at a drider and a Drow woman.
Ruby didn't even blink as someone hopped into her wagon. She was surprised, of course, but years of training made it second nature for it not to show. She then acted quickly. Her hand shot out to grab the stranger's clothing and the yanked him hard into the wagon, hard enough to throw him to the floor if he was not very quick in his own reaction. She thought about pulling a weapon, but decided against it. Detect alignment proved him not to be one of either dark or righteous intent. He was just a bit more random then most. She could perhaps ready a spell, but that was unnecessary. She knew her runes well enough to cast them at any time she wished.
Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the man. He wasn't Drow or Human. He looked almost elven, but not exactly. It seemed a little off. He would probably be better off dead then as a slave. Perhaps useless as one to boot.
The drider in there with her looked surprised as the man showed up and was tossed inside. She got quickly to her feet, dropping her weaving as she did so. She was wide eyed and looked to Ruby for what to do or how to react. When the lady drow didn't give her any clues she decided it would be best to wait. Perhaps to pin the stranger down somehow if he looked like he was going to try and retaliate.
"May I help you?" Ruby asked then, her tone flat and emotionless.
