Battle Mages are wielders of both the blade and of the arcane. They combine their prowess with the blade with their knowledge of magic to become deadly warriors.
Requirements to become an Battle Mage:
* Spellbook: Must know a total of 10 spells.
* Class: Class must be a kind of Spellcaster or Warrior (Sorcerer, sorcereress, Wizard, Mage, etc. Berzerker, Barbarian, Swordsman, Dragoon, etc.)
* Skill: Knowledge: Arcana (Adept or Apprentice), Blade (Adept or Apprentice-whichever one is left-)
* Feat: You must know one Arcana feat and one Combat feat.
Training Costs:
* Level One: 150 Gold
* Level Two: 250 Gold
* Level Three: 200
* Level Four: 300
* Level Five: 300
Level One - All spells become slightly more powerful than usual, and proficiency with the blade in increased. They also receive one free Arcana or Combat feat .
Level Two - Gains Enchant Weapon, Flame Weapon, Pacify Weapon, Profane Weapon, OR Bless Weapon. After much studying, the Battle Mage has learned the art of using their weapons in combination with their magic.
Level Three - All spells cast by the Battle Mage become even stronger, they become more skilled with the sword, and they gain a free spell or skill.
Level Four - Battle Mages are powerful by this point. As they walk, they seem to radiate confidence and strength. They are nimble, smart, and strong. Most Battle Mages develop markings on their skin, dark swirling patterns, that begin to glow when they use magic.
Level Five - The Battle Mage becomes generally less affected by all types of magic. Though this is not an all out immunity, spells stop doing so much damage. By this point the Battle Mage has become so familliar with magic's use in battle, that very little will suprise them. Their spells are quick, but their blade is quicker, slashing through the air with suprising speed. A full blown Battle Mage is an invaluable member of any team.
[So basically, I took the info from a different class and modified it. Where that class said get something free, this thing said get something free. So? Battle mage? Or no?]
Level One cost needs to be adjusted, since the cost for buying a feat is 200. Getting a feat and spell empowerment for less is not a good thing IMO.
Why blade? Are macemen left out in the cold? Should go along the lines of:
"Skill: Knowledge: Arcana, and Blade or Blunt Weapon or Marksman or whatever else is left..."
Level Two, why pacify weapon? The other spells listed make your weapon stronger, while that one is defensive in nature?
Without a fair bit more work, I'd say this PrC will not make it to the shops. Most of its effects can be obtained through feats & spells already in the shops. If you already play a battlemage (and eventually all characters get there, given time) and save for those empowering spells and feats, then you don't really need this.
But that's just my opinion. Sit back, get more input, work on it more, and maybe it will make it there. I've been wrong before.
Well the ide is not bad at all. :P I like it but like Melmoth said it needs a little work but then I would love to see it in the shop. :lol:
Needs a bit more fluff, methinks. A little dash of cultural reference and lore padding goes a long way toward making a PrC attractive.
After looking around for a little bit, and figuring a few things out, I've realized that I did this wrong.
Terribly wrong.
I followed rules that didn't exist.
So, I'd like to retract this request, if possible :P
Given time, I might decide that this was a good idea and that I just did it wrong, but for now I think it's just totally unnecessary.
Sorry.
