Title: Fear is Failure
Description: <p>
Yaksha - July 7, 2008 02:46 AM (GMT)
Yaksha sat in the bloodseal tavern, sipping at a bright, almost luminescent green drink. There was a mirthless grin on his face, and he had taken a guise somewhere between his true form and his human guise. His entire body looked emaciated and starved, as if he were an anorexic, and his eyes were a muddy orange. He sniffed at the drink, then downed what was in his glass quickly. He then gave a quick shudder, but laughed in a deep, gravelly tone. His voice sounded like crushed glass, but he seemed unconcerned by any of this. "To think, you could find such exquisite drinks in such a broken down bar."
Yaksha leaned over the bar, and tutted. "Tsk tsk, can't find good help. 7:56 and neither hide nor hair of her. I was quite specific on the time." Yaksha sighed, and looked at the ceiling. The money wasn't really an issue; the one he'd given the money TO was. He was in dire need of some good help, and he knew of no one better than Lynx.
Before the sun had even risen, he had slipped a note under Lynx's abode, the letter simple. "Inside, you will find 500 gold entrusted to you. I have need of the services of one of your kind. I expect to meet you at the Bloodseal Tavern, promptly at 8:00. Provided you do not arrive promptly, I will deny any and all knowledge of this letter, and there is a strong possibility I will hire someone to silence you. My business is not to be shared. Hoping you shall arrive promptly at 8!
-Y"
Yaksha began to whistle under his breath, a song with an upbeat and rather catchy tune. Anyone ignorant of him would think he was in a great mood, but he had nothing on his mind but blood, death, and methodical torture. None could tell so soon, but Yaksha was an evil unfettered by even the slightest qualms....
Lynx - July 7, 2008 03:05 AM (GMT)
Lynx had arrived back at her room with a note under the door. She had nearly landed flat on her back when she had stepped on it. Being half-cat had come in helpful when she needed the reflexes to quickly rebalance herself. After she was firmly on the ground she stooped over and picked up the envelope, picking it up she flipped in over in her hand, opening it carefully and warily. When she pulled out the paper she could feel the bumps on its surface. Someone had done their research.
After she read the note she had gotten someone to tell her the exact amount of money in the envelope. It had proven true, and she fingered the 500 gold greedily. This someone had wanted her desperately if he was willing to threaten an assassin with an assassination. It made Lynx roll her eyes but she nonetheless couldn’t pass up this offer. Not only because of the money but her own curiosity that often got the best of her.
She had slipped into a black dress, leaving her hair down and her milky eyes revealed. She often got stares when it came to her ears and tail but there wasn’t much she could do about either of those. And although she could feel eyes on her she didn’t care. It was 7:00 when she had left but she had taken her time in getting to the tavern. He demanded 8:00 and 8:00 was when she planned on arriving.
She walked through the tavern door at 7:59, asking the barkeep for a man that looked as though he were waiting for someone. When he pointed Lynx rolled her eyes and pointed to her own. “Do you think I can see old man. Just give me the general area of where he is please.” Once he described it to her she moved between the people and sat herself down. Hoping, and yet somehow knowing, she had found the right table. As soon as she placed herself in her seat time changed to 8:00 exactly.
“I do hope I’m on time,” Lynx drawled, acting uninterested. She sat for a moment listening to the man breath. “I got your note.” Lynx leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table and her head cradled in her hands. “What type of... services are you interested in?”
Yaksha - July 7, 2008 03:22 AM (GMT)
Yaksha watched the cat walk through the door, and when she sat down next to him, he sat in total silence for several moments. Not even his breath could be heard, and after a moment, a small rustling came from him. A glass was placed before her, the contents smelling strongly of aniseed. "No hurry, no hurry. Drink, relax. You got here on time, that in itself deserves a reward."
He eventually smiled, and placed his own hand on the bar, touching hers just barely. "So, Lysanne. I take it you're interested in working for me?" She couldn't see, but she'd doubtless hear the smug smile in his tone; he'd done research, and much of it.
Lynx - July 9, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
She sat at the bar and heard a clink of a glass placed in front of the man beside her. She asked the tender for her own drink, although she ordered water, not wanting anything to hinder her abilities tonight. She waited until the tender came back with her drink before she spoke again. She took a long drink of her water, letting the cool liquid slip down her throat.
She thought of asking him to call her Lynx but saw no point in it really. At least not yet. He was clearly calling her Lysanne to show off what he knew. “Whether I am interested or not depends on what I would be doing,”
Yaksha - July 9, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
Yaksha chuckled softly, and stroked his chin. "I'm a rather busy man, to start. I've my fair share of enemies. Your job will still be to kill. But you will kill when I ask you to, and you will accompany me on my travels to kill anyone who wishes to cause me harm. You will be bodyguard and assassin for me. Your initial pay is 100 gold a day, plus expenses, along with a bonus for every successful mission, to be discussed on a case-by-case basis. After a week, you are welcome to request a raise."
He smiled invitingly, then folded his hands, and leaned forward. "I would call this a reasonable deal. Wouldn't you, Lynx?"
Lynx - July 9, 2008 09:18 PM (GMT)
Lynx sipped at her water and thought over all that had been said. Lynx slowly put down her glass on the table with a light clink. “I believe we are at a disagreement on the reasonability of all this.” Lynx ran her finger around the edge of her glass and listened to it singing for a moment before she stopped and lowered her hands. She faced the man to speak with him.
“For one you signed your letter merely Y. Who are you? Second, I’d like to point out that while you are busy I am as well. I would be willing to accompany you on some travels but my association with the guild cannot end. Besides they pay better. I believe I shall think on everything once I know who I would be dealing with. Now Mr. Y, tell me about yourself.”
Yaksha - July 19, 2008 12:01 AM (GMT)
Yaksha folded his hands on the top of the table, and listened intently, nodding as he did. "I suppose you have a point, Lynx. My name is Yaksha. I am a half-fiend, one with rather large plans. I can offer you total amnesty provided I fail, merely claim you had nothing to do with my plans, I will collaborate with you. I would never, of course, ask you to forsake your duties to your guild to help me. I simply ask that, provided you've nothing else to do when I call, you accompany me on my more dangerous missions. I would think this a very reasonable deal."
Lynx - August 4, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
"Yesss..." Lynx drawled, pondering over the idea. It would be nice she supposed, however 'dangerous' it was she was sure she could handle it. She leaned back in her chair and didn't say anything for a moment. She regarded the man across from her. Or 'regarded' would be the most appropriate word given that she lacked sight. She still scanned him, using her other sense to learn what she could. It would have to be enough.
"I think we can come to a deal." Lynx offered out her hand.
Yaksha - August 16, 2008 11:29 PM (GMT)
Yaksha nodded solemnly, and then extended his hand. "It would seem we've an agreement. I will keep in touch. You need only call me, and I shall arrive soon thereafter." He rose from his seat, and bowed deeply, then lobbed something over his shoulder, landing perfectly in her lap. "A little empoloyment fee. I will expect to see you within the week, to discuss matters further."
Lynx - August 16, 2008 11:40 PM (GMT)
Lynx caught the gold and gazed down at it. She would wait until he left to open the pouch. If there wasn’t enough she could find him easily enough but it didn’t seem right to start off this job without showing a little bit of trust.
“I’ll be here when you need me,” Lynx watched the man before she ordered herself another ale and sipped at it, thinking over the deal she had just gotten herself into.
