Title: Dragon Disciple PrC?

Aether Draka - June 22, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
<edit so far>
Dragon Disciple
The Dragon Disciple is a being who has chosen to follow a specific type of dragon and as they learn and gain more power, they begin to show Draconic traits.

Dragon Choices:
  • Arctic or Silver Dragon
    Element: Air or Ice
    Breath Weapon: Ice
  • Black or Shadow Dragon
    Element: Dark
    Breath Weapon: Enervation bolts
  • Blue Dragon
    Element: Water
    Breath Weapon: Water
  • Crystal Dragon
    Element: Light
    Breath Weapon: Ray of Light
  • Gold or Red Dragon
    Element: Fire
    Breath Weapon: Fire
  • Green or Poison Dragon
    Element: Earth or Poison
    Breath Weapon: Poison Gas
  • Prismatic Dragon
    Element: Magic
Breath Weapon: Color Spray (A fan of multi-colored fire)
  • Storm Dragon
    Element: Air or Lightning
    Breath Weapon: Lightning
Requirements to become a Dragon Disciple:
  • Element must match the Chosen Dragon Type
  • Skill: Intimidate (Novice)
Training Costs:
  • 100 Gold per Level
Level One - When the Dragon Disciple begins training, they become stronger than normal, infused with some of the Draconic Might. At this level they gain the effects of the spell Bulls Strength at will. They will become stronger as they gain levels.

Level Two - At level Two, the Dragon Disciple gains sharper than normal senses, including darkvision. They also are granted an intimidating presence that they can activate or deactivate at will. Intimidate is now Adept. If the skill is already Adept it is now Journeyman. Above that nothing changes.

Level Three - Spells do not affect the Dragon Disciple as much as they would otherwise. They are by no means immune to magic, but their resistance is greatly improved. They also become immune to attacks of their element and weak against their opposing element (Such as a Red Dragon Disciple becomes immune to fire but bad against ice).

Level Four - The Dragon Disciple no longer ages. Their appearance stays as it is from the point they hit Level Four until the end of their lives. Their lifespan is increased by 200 years no matter the race (Such as the average Elf would live 900 years instead of the usual 700). Their strength also grows. Bulls Strength is now replaced with Draconic Might at will.

Level Five – They have maxed out in raw strength, so now they get the breath weapon of their Chosen Dragon! They are also considered Dragon Kin and are treated as if they are dragons. Opposing Dragons will dislike them, but others are inclined to align themselves with you.

Additional Strengths - The Dragon Disciple has now reached its greatest point of power and begins to take on Draconic features. They may choose from Major Features (Such as Wings) or Minor Feature (Such as an odd eye color. A Gold Dragon Disciple might have gold orbs for eyes with no pupil visible, etc.).
Addition Costs:
  • 100 Gold for Major Features
  • 50 gold for Minor Features
The list of Major Features to choose from is:
    Horns
    Dragon Wings
Full Scales (more scales, covering more, and increased size where possible.)
Draconic Endurance (tough to complement strong)
Spines (spikes coming off the spine)
    Claw-like hands
    Claw-like feet
Dragon Tail (If you are a Black Dragon Disciple your tail can be barbed and poisoned)
    Hard and Scaly Skin
Minor Feaures:
    Odd Eyecolor
    Skin Color
    Eyecolor
Elemental Affinity some part of the dragon's element manifests itself visibly about you in a noncombat way. example: air dragon has constant wind around it.

    Silver-Ice Storm

I found this little thing in a list of PrC's that Laoura had posted... it was with Shadowdancer, Archmage, and another...

Anyone want to give a hand cleaning it up so it can become a unique class? ^_^

Melmoth - June 23, 2008 05:26 AM (GMT)
This must become a PrC! It needs requirements, adjustments to the costs, more dragons (shadow dragon comes to mind), more major and minor features (though not a higher limit on the amount of Major/Minor features methinks), and just generally more of everything.

Seriously, this has the possibility to be freaking awesome, and I haven't seen a PrC I fully endorsed since the snake charmer PrC. I will do anything you need to get this fleshed out and in the shops.

Takrii Tolarnii - June 23, 2008 12:57 PM (GMT)
You could add the crystal dragons.

Aether Draka - June 23, 2008 01:01 PM (GMT)
Adding Dragons Isn't a bad idea, but the thing I'm wondering about is what about the non-good/evil characters, like all of mine are at the moment...

We could just use the dragons in the shops too... it would make the most sense that way. Their alignments are already listed after all.

I think sharing an element with the dragon type should be a requirement for the class also.

Melmoth - June 23, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
Why is the blue dragon earth element? *thought blue & water went together*

I agree about the element part, but there is not a dragon for all elements. Yet. We could pick all the standard Imy elements, and have a set of dragons able to be used by characters of that element. *notes there is no dark element dragon, but the black dragon is closest*

Level One Simplified: Gets an increasing Draconic Might strenght bonus. Say, it starts out as bulls strenght and goes to full on Draconic might at level six? Permanent Draconic Might for the win?

Level Two Simplified: Sharper senses, darkvision, mass fear? I don't like the mass fear. Someone with a bit more strength and darkvision is not worthy of my fear. Not yet. I vote for moving that to Level Five and setting it as a major or minor feature.

Level Three Simplified: General spell resistance, immunity to their dragon's element. I belive the scaley skin should be moved here to help account for the spell resistance. I also think a weakness to opposite elements needs to be included. *throws fireball at an Ice Disciple*

Level Four Simplified: Stops physically aging, gets 200 extra years to live. While this doesn't really mean much here in Imy, it would be a major reason for my character to go for this class. I belive this level should either be cheaper than the others, or have another feature added to make it a bit more usefull, instead of effectively staying a level three untill they hit five and get all the cool stuff.

Level Five Simplified: Two major features, one minor feature. Needs more features *will have some later*, and I belive, a higher limit on minor features. Perhaps some dragon specific features?

Level Six Simplified: Mini-Dragon & Breath Attack. Why someone would want the little dragon is beyond me. Little annoyances to get shot at in combat IMO, but I guess some are into that.

*goes off to think of more features*

Aether Draka - June 24, 2008 04:05 AM (GMT)
did anyone even look at the shop? I was saying that we need to perhaps change the dragons listed above to the ones in the Draconic Fires.

Name: Blue Dragon
Usual Alignment: Neutral
Element: Water

Name: Arctic Dragon
Usual Alignment: Neutral
Element: Ice (air is where most Ice is though, so Air?)

Name: Poison Dragon
Usual Alignment: Evil
Element: Earth

Name: Black Dragon
Usual Alignment: Evil
Element: Dark

Name: Shadow Dragon
Usual Alignment: Neutral or Evil
Element: Dark

Name: Dracolich
Usual Alignment: Utterly Evil
Element: Dark

Name: Silver Dragon
Usual Alignment: Good
Element: Ice (Air again? Might be better as light?)

Name: Red Dragon
Usual Alignment: Evil
Element: Fire

Name: Green Dragon
Usual Alignment: Evil
Element: Earth

Name: Storm Dragon
Usual Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Element: Air

Name: Fang Dragon
Usual Alignment: Neutral
Element: Fire

Name: Hellfire Wyrm
Usual Alignment: Always Evil
Element: Fire

Name: Prismatic Dragon
Usual Alignment: Good
Element: Light

As for the levels...

1: I like the idea of gaining the strength spells, epically as permanently somehow at the end! ^_^

2: The Dragon's fearful is more like intimidate then anything else, so something akin to the skill? Perhaps make it a requirement at novice level to start with and bump it up to adept?

3: Sounds like that one is fine!

4: What if the dragon might goes with the age thing?

5: Instead of this other stuff, breath weapon?

6: Scratch this completely and make level fives list into something akin to the Animal Charmer's additional stuff, perhaps for 50 gold each with a limit of three or something...

Sound like a good idea?

Edit: on second thought, the Dracolitch shouldn't be on the list... *debates the Hellfire Wyrm but leaves it for now*

Melmoth - June 24, 2008 04:23 AM (GMT)
Good deal.

1 Weak Bulls Strength at level 1, becoming full power at level 4.
2 Intimidate is a requirement, and gets a 1 level skill boost. (not past master, though, right?)
3 Cut it off at five levels with the advanced PrC stuff at the end.

Other things:
scratch the hellfire wyrm and the fang dragon. Never really saw a point to those as different dragons. They kind of stick out, and their element is taken already.

Some early ideas for extra features:

Horns

Full Scales (more scales, covering more, and increased size where possible.)

Draconic Endurance (tough to complement strong)

Spines (spikes coming off the spine?)

Elemental Affinity some part of the dragon's element manifests itself visibly about you in a noncombat way. example: air dragon has constant wind around it.

*still brainstorming*

Aether Draka - June 24, 2008 04:37 AM (GMT)
*is spending too much time on this topic.* :P

If we get rid of both we need two more dragons... which means if we flesh them out we might get them into the shop! I suggest the Gold and a Crystal. You can find them below. Each element has two dragons.

Requirements:
Skill: Intimidate: Novice
Must share at least one element with chosen Dragon.
Must share at least one alignment with chosen Dragon.

Dragon variations:

Poison Dragon
Element: Earth
Alignment: Evil

Green Dragon
Element: Earth
Alignment: Neutral or Evil

Red Dragon
Element: Fire
Alignment: Evil

Gold Dragon
Element: Fire
Alignment: Neutral or Good

Blue Dragon
Element: Water
Alignment: Neutral

Artic Dragon
Element: Water
Alignment: Neutral

Silver Dragon
Element: Air
Alignment: Good

Storm Dragon
Element: Air
Alignment: Chaotic or Neutral

Prismatic Dragon
Element: Light
Alignment: Good

Crystal Dragon
Element: Light
Alignment: Neutral or Good

Black Dragon
Element: Dark
Alignment: Evil

Shadow Dragon
Element: Dark
Alignment: Neutral or Evil

Melmoth - June 24, 2008 05:17 AM (GMT)
Lawfull evil Air mage?

Non-Neutral Water mage?

Good Earth Mage?

Allignment part is messing this up. We either need enough dragons to have one for all allignments, or throw the whole allignment requirement out the window.

My opinion:
Kill the allignment requirement and find a new one that would not stop a huge amount of characters from taking this class. *hates Arcane Archer for it's Elf restriction*

Maybe a task to complete?

Maybe require X number of different skills?

Aether Draka - June 24, 2008 05:49 AM (GMT)
perhaps, but I said one alignment, like clerics and deities in D&D. And it has nothing to do with mages as far as I knew... *shrugs*

The alignments can be ignored though. Not all PrCs have a lot of requirements. Infusions and Shadowdancer for example.

Melmoth - June 24, 2008 06:09 AM (GMT)
I use mage as an example to show their element clearly.

What it was supposed to show, was that if your element was water, one part of youe allignment HAD to be neutral. Which sucks if you're lawfull good, for example. Same for lawfull or chaotic earth element. Same for lawfull evil air. With the allignments bit, they were out of luck.

I just don't like the idea of everyone becoming a Half-Dragon. At least, not without a fair amount of work getting the cash.

If all else fails, mess with the prices.

So what else needs improvements? The end features IMO, because who knows how long it will take to get through the admin requests/suggestions. Other than that and the final write-up I think it's good. *wanted more people's opinions on this*

Aether Draka - June 26, 2008 07:15 AM (GMT)
What about getting the Gold and Crystal dragons flashed out for the shops? We need more non-evil dragons anyways.

Takrii Tolarnii - June 26, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
Really? You'd try out the Crystal Dragons? Oh! Before I forget, you really do need enough dragons so that there are a few for each element. Maybe taking out the alignments would help.

DornKoon - July 5, 2008 03:32 PM (GMT)
My I noticed this topic just now. :P I have to say that this looks like a really nice PrC, remind me of a class in some rp I was in before....but canīt remember the name of it now. ^_^

I agree that you should remove the alignments like some have said before this. Because then things can be interesting and people can use any dragon....yay more free choices.

Melmoth - July 5, 2008 04:51 PM (GMT)
*looks at shops*

Gold Dragon
Usual Allignment: Good or Neutral
Breath Weapon: Fire
Abilities: Immune to Fire
Buying Price: 1000
Selling Price: 500

And by crystal dragons, you mean the Gem Dragons? *looks at wiki* They don't really fit with Imy IMO...

Amethyst dragon
Breath weapon: Line of force

Crystal dragon
Breath weapon: Line of blinding light

Emerald dragon
Breath weapon: Cone of deafening sound

Obsidian dragon
Breath weapon: Cone of fire

Sapphire dragon
Breath weapon: Cone of panicking sound

Topaz dragon
Breath weapon: Cone of dehydration

These breath weapons (and thus element) are really wierd. I say stick with the cromatic & metallic dragons except for a few select dragons that really fit well. (shadow dragon... *drools*)

*goes off to try to get a final write up for the PrC done sometime in the next few months*

Aether Draka - July 6, 2008 01:01 AM (GMT)
I like the gold one, but the reason I wanted the Crystal one is because of the line of Light. Basically a 'Light Dragon' to be the opposite of the Shadow Dragon. We can call it something else if you want, but the Prismatic Dragon reminds me more of the magic element instead of the Light element for some reason... *shrugs*

Melmoth - July 6, 2008 05:29 AM (GMT)
Hmm... *throws crystal dragon into his grand plan* You have a good point. Opposites for everything. I guess we switch the Prismatic to a more magic based being, and add the fang dragon as its opposite? Mental vs. Physical?

Give the fang dragon a weaker breath attack than the other dragons, but the best physical abilities? Size, strength, armor...

The prysmatic dragon we scale down, but pretty much let it burst with magical power? *dunno how it would fit in with the PrC, but for the shops?*

Aether Draka - July 6, 2008 05:34 PM (GMT)
I don't know about the fang dragon but there is a battle/shield dragon that might work for strength.

Oh, and I've added out edited work in process above the first stuff in the top post! ^_^

And pic ideas for the gold and crystal dragons (I can edit them as needed):

I love the idea for this PrC, but don't you think (or maybe you do and need to clarify) that the Disciple needs to have some sort of dragon pet or PC pal willing to put them through RPs to kick off the class? Kinda like a god's "chosen"...? My initial impression was that the isn't any necessary interaction between the disciple and it's prefered dragon type.

Celebriel - July 9, 2008 12:54 AM (GMT)
Redfiver and I have actually talked about making this class for Imythess. Then developing and proposing a class for half-dragons to take to awaken their draconic heritage more (since this class is kinda useless for natural born half-dragons...)

I should poke him and chat about it with him.

But I would love to see this class put in place.

Melmoth - July 9, 2008 05:54 AM (GMT)
Theron, your thoughts are good, but I don't see them working out well. Buying a dragon would be an insane amount of time and money, and I don't think our few dragon PCs would like to be bothered by people wanting to learn the class. This sounds like the Training Master idea, which never really worked out. In theory it could work, but hasn't...

Also, imposing a training master for this (or buying a dragon...) would bring into question how the other PrCs are learned. For them, you can invent a backstory to how you started on the path\ trained \ whatever. Why not here?

Celebriel, natural Half-Dragons could probably just skip to the end. (Ex: Natural Snake Charmer going to Snake Walker thing... Although a natural Snake charmer can't exist...) I don't know. AD?

Aether Draka - July 9, 2008 01:41 PM (GMT)
Dragon Disciple in D&D (which reminds me, this class will need a new name) was a structured way for someone to become a half-dragon. Those who are half-dragons might like to take some of the stuff at the end I guess, but normally that is part of the character creation.

Personally, having some really fancy draconic feats to add for this class and those already part or entirely dragon would be a lot of fun.

Strafe (fly by breath weapon)
Shift (human/half-dragon/dragon shifting)
Speed Flight (fly faster)
Element Breath (apply a different the breath weapon)
etc. (I have many more of these)

Melmoth - July 9, 2008 06:46 PM (GMT)
Where do you get this stuff? Hell yes, MOAR!

Aether Draka - July 9, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
I'll have a list tomorrow then! ^_^ I'll do some looking and get a long list!

Takrii Tolarnii - July 10, 2008 12:43 AM (GMT)
Holy...this is awesome! I would really want to get this!
