Title: Curiosity? Why not?
Aether Draka - May 8, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
The weather outside was not the most pleasant there had been. In fact it was quite unpleasant. The sky had roused itself up into a knot, filling the sky with anger dark clouds that poured down rain in seats. The wind wasn’t even sure what direction it was going, so when AD appeared from the shadows as near as she could get to the Acadamy of Magic, she found the wind shoving her forward and the rain hitting her back like a wall only to have the wind shift once more and whip her hair in her face. Ducking her head down she bolted up to the gates and pushed them open enough to slip in. She secured it behind her and turned about to look around. There were a few people about, but most seemed quite intent on their own studies. With the weather outside, no doubt most were doing research or something.
Aether Draka took a moment to shake out her damp skirts, she had worn a thinner black one under a more sturdy green linen one that matched her bodice. She tugged the sleeves of her black shirt also to try and het the fabric off of where it was trying to stick to her arm. Unfortunately, she was still damp enough to try and be clingy. She wasn’t out there long though, so at least she wasn’t soaked. She was tempted to head back home real quick, change, and come back. She glanced around in hopes of finding a place with enough shadows to do so. She saw some and took a step forward before she realized it would probably be a better idea to stay as she was. What sort of impression would she give at just arriving if she wasn’t a bit wet? Instead of that course of action she stopped once more and let her gaze pass over the walls and halls. Where should she go? If no one was here to stop her or anything, she might as well explore.
Piter - May 26, 2008 08:15 PM (GMT)
Piter hid underneath a tree in front of the academy, watching the door for an opening. He coulodn't open it himself yet. He had magic, but it was not proficient enough to open anything yet. He had come to the academy to help his studies along, but the storm had put a stop to actual getting in. He needed to learn more magic, to create a more solid link to his true self. For in all truth, he was not truly a cat.
His line of thought was cut off as a figure rushed from the shadows to the door. His chance was here. The ginger cat darted from the trees and he made his way through the sheets of rain and against the wind to the door. By the time he had actually made it, however, she had gotten in and shut the door. Piter cursed and meowed loudly, but the sound was carried off by the wind. Reaching into himself deeper, he gave a very uncatlike bellow, rather loud. Not quite as loud as some of the bigger cats, but loud enough to get through the door to the people inside.
Piter pressed himself against the door, trying to get away from the wind and rain. His feline instincts told him to run off to find another place to go. His magical side told him to burn down the doors. He didn't know which one to follow as he waited for the door. Piter knocked on the door with a balled-up paw.
Aether Draka - May 26, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
She was just about to walk away from the door when a strange sound came from the other side that sounded nothing like a storm. She paused and reached out to the handle. Bracing herself for the weather once more, she pulled it open. Outside she saw a cat, that wasn't a cat, but he looked more soaked then she had gotten. The wind blew at the door, pulling it from her fingers to slam against the wall with a bang. There was a small break in the down poor, but another sheet of rain was heading right behind the gust of wind. Hoping he wouldn't think her rude, AD scooped up the cat that didn't seem like one and slammed the door shut. The latch set in place and she took a moment to catch her breath as she leaned against the door.
"Quite a storm." She said and knelt down to set the poor drenched cat down on the floor. She stood back up and regain to rummage in the bag on her hip. Before she could find anything though, a small black cat came towards them from the shadows. She was a thin and small cat, one that might be called the runt of the litter. She was blacker them black though, as if she was a shadow. The black cat sat down in the middle of the floor and wrapped her tail about her paws. Her dark eyes looking to Piter and then to AD.
Aether Draka tipped her head slightly to the right and asked the black cat, "What are you doing here?" The only answer the black cat gave her was to twitch the tip of her tail.
Piter - May 26, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
Piter felt himself get picked up, heard the door close, then set down. It was then that he opened his eyes, to see an interesting-looking girl and a small black cat. He heard her remark about the storm. "Quite." He muttered to himself, not loud enough to be heard. He shook himself off and sniffed proudly, looking over the girl whom had rescued him from the storm.
"Thank you much, dear friend. The name's Piter." He grinned at the girl. "Who might you be?" He asked politely. This girl had something about her, a small feeling of some sort. Piter brushed it off and looked to the kitten that walked up. It was one of those cats from Balefire. The shadow cats. Piter looked at it curiously, circling it and sniffing at it. The small thing interested him greatly, as did most things from the planes beyond this one.
Piter shrugged and shook himself off, walking back to the girl cheerfully. He purred deeply, looking her over. A stray hair caught his eye and instinct told him what to do. As if a reaction formed by centuries of cat development, he reached out a paw and batted at it playfully.
Aether Draka - May 26, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
AD looked at the cat, who seemed to be waiting for her to do something, then the cat that wasn't spoke to her and she looked down at him. "I'm AD." She replied and pushed herself off the door too look around. Hadn't anyone heard the door slam like that? If no one was going to show she might as well see what was here on her own.
She looked down at Piter and reached down to pet him. The other cat just sat, waiting for a little while. AD smiled as she noticed that Piter was still part cat. She laughed and said, "So what brings you here?" she asked. "I'm looking for information making someone who is undead back alive. I've only managed to find out how to make them alive for a little while so far though. It was done through magic as far as I could tell, so magic should be able to reverse it."
The thin cat rose to her feet then and made a should halfway between a mow and a purr. "Purroow." And she started walking down the hall only to stop at the archway, her thin black tail held high. She look at them and make the same sound again before heading out of sight down the hall.
AD stood once more and sighed. "I guess we should follow." Aether Draka said to Piter and started after the black cat.
Piter - May 26, 2008 11:19 PM (GMT)
Piter shook himself off once more, purring as AD petted him. The tip of his tongue poked out lazily, eyes partly closed. "I'm here to get more in touch with my magical side, saying so at the risk of sounding like a drugged magician." He chuckled to himself at his own words.
"Sounds like some deep buisness. Not many can perform such magic, and even fewer know how to do it. I'd like to accompany you, if you don't mind." He grinned and watched the black cat with curious eyes.
Piter laughed at the kitten and stood to follow it as well, staying well between the kitten and AD, so nobody got lost, or lost track of their friendly leader. Piter was seeking the head mage here, Ace by name.
He was unsure if the man would recognize him as he truly was or not, but if he could offer magical knowledge, perhaps the man could help him to return to his natural state, knowing he did so or not.
in any case, piter wasn't losing any time doing other things.
Master Ace - May 27, 2008 02:51 AM (GMT)
(Sorry for the lengthy wait all around. My other topic with Piter will occur after this one.)
Ace had known ahead of time that the weather for the day would have been bad, but his divinations hadn't foretold that it was to be this bad. There wasn't much needed to be done for the day or for most of the week so the weather wouldn't really ruin any plans, though it was rightfully depressing. Most of the students were off on break, and alll of the younger students were off helping their parents with their jobs particularly the few farmers' children that had made it to the academy. The pounding rain, and whistling when replaced the silence and made it all the more depressing.
Bored and eager to avoid drollsome paperwork, Ace roamed the halls. He wasn't quite expecting to find anyone and was surprised at what he saw. A woman and two cats, one of which he could swear he saw and heard talk. Talking animals were not unheard of in the arcane world, but neither were common. Ace could tell that the cat was indeed no illusion, but it did have an arcane aura about it. No doubt it was the product of magic, possible the woman's familiar, though not likely given what he had heard of the the conversation. Sounder much more like the meeting of strangers which certainly ruled out a familiar.
"Hello, I'm Master Ace, Magister of the academy of magic. From what I've heard I might be able to help both of you," Ace Explained as he approached.
"Though I didn't quite catch what what you were here for," He said to AD.
Aether Draka - May 27, 2008 03:14 AM (GMT)
The sound of another's voice brought AD to a stop and the black cat she had been following seemed to have decided to come over to where she was. It rubbed against her leg as she turned to look at Ace. For a moment her eyes shifted, as if she wasn't looking at him, but past him. Then she blinked and it was as if nothing had happened. She smiled and said, "I'm Aether Draka and I've come here to find out if there was a way for me to reverse a spell cast on a friend of mine. It turned him into a vampire, though he was never actually bitten by one. I figured if magic did it, it should be able to reverse it. Like I said, it wasn't the normal way one becomes a vampire. It was a spell and unfortunately I couldn't find any clues as to what the spell is. Would you know any way I would be able to reverse such a thing?"
She shook her head, her many small braids tumbling over her shoulders before she pushed them back behind her. "I know his soul is still there because he's a vampire, so it's not the same as a resurrection or something where you have to call a soul into a body. I also found something that would bring him back to life, but only temperamentally and it didn't seem that the entire spell was there." She frowned. She could at least see if it was possible to change her friend back. She hadn't been able to help him before, she hadn't been strong enough, but she could at least do this for him. He had given her a place to call home, a place of safety where it didn't matter if she was a hybrid. She felt she had to at least try.
Piter - May 27, 2008 11:09 PM (GMT)
Piter grinned, pleased with the magister. Maybe he could learn a bit more than he had hoped here, maybe enough to allow him to return to his origional form. Of course, doing so here may cause a problem, as Ace certainly seemed powerful enough to defeat him, should he get all his power back.
It seemed unlikely he would, however, Piter, that is.
Piter grinned. "Well then, i thank you in advance, Master Ace." He bowed, somewhat deeper than he usually did, and with a bit more respect in his tone. "My name is Piter. Magical cat extraordinaire." Piter chuckled and began a light purr. He was drying off, but was still considerably damp. It was quite a storm, not the light drizzle he had expected earlier in the day.
Piter licked a paw and ran it over his head quickly as AD spoke to Ace. The orange ears perked up when she mentioned vampire. And it had been done with magic. That kind of thing took quite a considerable amount of power.
"I would like to enroll here if you would have me, Ace. I'm sure you're open minded enough to accept me, cat or not." He said, the usual smartass tone in his voice.
Master Ace - May 28, 2008 04:46 AM (GMT)
Ace pondered the possibilities of how one could be made a vampire with magic. Any other sort of undead would have been much easier to pull off. Magic used to make vampires was something Ace had never heard of. Ace knew he would have to analyze the magic before he knew how exactly the reversal would take place, but was confident he had a way to combat this potent curse. “It’s a pity didn’t bring him with you, Aether Draka. I can’t be certain of the best way to accomplish this until I get a look at the magic cursing the vampire, but rest assured I am positive that it can be done. How long he has been a vampire is something you may want him to consider though, as chance’s are he will age as if he had never been undead and if he is a human vampire of 103 the process would undoubtedly kill him. Would you happen to know how long he's been effected by this magic?”
“As for you, Piter, enrollment is simple and easy. Just a small amount of paperwork is needed. We’ve had our share of strange of strange mages here and I don’t think making accommodations for you will be a problem. We’ve had one student who turned himself into a newt, and I made him stay that way for a week to teach him a less, but why he deserved that lesson is another story,” Ace explained.
“You can also get enrolled if it interests you Aether Draka, but come let us get some where more comfortable than a hallway. This classroom has cozy seats and a fireplace and I doubt either of you intends to go back through that horrid storm,” Ace insisted as he pointed to a nearby class. The storm wasn't likely to let up soon and he might be able to use the chain of events to entertain himself whether with teaching, conversation or a combination of the two. At least when it was all said and done he could offer to get them home without venturing back into the storm.
Aether Draka - May 29, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
AD was thrilled by the news, as she had been worried that it wouldn't be possible. That he seemed so sure about it made her very happy. She pushed open the door to the classroom and the thin black cat went inside first. As she waited for Piter to go inside she said, "Really! Then I will see if he can come! I think he's only been that way for a year or two and he's half moon elf so I don't think it will bother him. I knew him before he was transformed into a vampire." She paused a moment then added with a little uncertainty, "I could go get him now if you like. I think I know where he is... and if he has already had something to eat… maybe. If not, I'm sure I could have him here within the week." She nodded her head. In a week she would no doubt be able to get him to come here.
"I didn't know if it could be reversed though, so I didn't bring him when I came. He also doesn't seem to do well in crowded places and I wasn't sure what I would find when I got here. I’m also not too sure if enrolling here would do me much good. I’m already a summoner." She would wait for either Ace to take the door so she could enter the room or for him to enter himself. Either way would work for her. Once inside she would sit in the most covenant chair.
(OOC: *pokes her sucky post-ish* :( ))
Piter - June 2, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
Piter frowned at his comment about the student. “I find newts rather disgusting. They don’t taste nearly as good as rabbits do.” The cat grinned and chuckled to himself. “Anyhow, I’ll take the paperwork whenever you’re ready, Ace.”
Piter glanced at Aether and smiled. He saw no reason why she would avoid her name, He found it perfectly fine. But if she preferred him calling her AD, then so be it. “I think I’d like to meet this fellow. I find vampires quite interesting. Never met one before, you see.” He grinned. “And I don’t think I’m in any danger of being bitten.” The surety came not from his feline appearance. He just didn’t think arcane elementals could become vampires.
The cat purred low. “Ah, AD. You disappoint me. You can always learn something new. There’s more to magic than being a summoner.
(sorry it's short :( )
Master Ace - June 26, 2008 03:49 AM (GMT)
After following them inside Ace took a seat in a nearby chair. Ace slowly waved his hand towards the fireplace and flames softly sparked into life, growing in size until the flames had fully claimed the wood as their territory in the fireplace.
Ace was relieved that it had not been a long span of time since before the man was a vampire. It certainly cleared up most of the issues that would stand in his way. Ace was also surprised when she asked if she should bring him, seeming to insinuate that she had means of teleportation. Unusual for most, but not out of reach, after all Ace knew several spells that would do the job.
"Ah, if you have the ability to bring him here, then I suppose it would be a good idea to do so. I suppose now would be as good as time as any since I can't help him further without him here and since Piter would like to meet him as well if the man doesn't mind. But do note summoning is only a small window of magic and the academy can teach you many summoning techniques you likely wouldn't learn on your on," Ace explained.
"Can't say I've ever tried newt before, but I do agree that rabbit taste pretty good. But do tell me what interest you most in magic or is it so simple as becoming even more magical and extraordinaire, Piter?" Ace chuckled.
(sorry for being so untimely >.< life seems to be clearing up though)
Aether Draka - June 30, 2008 04:51 AM (GMT)
AD shook her head. "I didn't become a summoner because I wanted to." She sighed, remembering how long it had taken for her to learn the simple spell Light from Raven more then a few years ago and even then it hadn't always worked. Then there was Alex's failed attempts at teaching her magic up to the point of yelling fruitlessly at her about how much she sucked at magic. Summoning had been very hard to learn and she had spent countless hours just practicing it. She still would often just practice the symbols over and over so she wouldn't forget them. She didn't really understand them that well. Seele's aid had been irreplaceable with the use of the summoning circle, and though she had mesmerized so many symbols she really didn't know what they really meant.
"I could try to get him to come here on his own. I don't think he will let me jump him here. That would involve shrinking him or something I think... though I've never tried it before. Might be interesting... I would have to find him first." She paused to think and then reached in her bag to find Turin. The small fly dragon was surprisingly not asleep. Without thinking about it at all, she switched to draconic. "Turin, would you be able to see about finding Lynthaer for me? I want to know if he would be able to come here."
The little creature puffed up it's chest and gave a brisk nod. "I will see what I can do!" he told her telepathically and took wing. He circled around everyone in a big loop and glanced out the window. AD grinned and said, "Thank you!" as Turin paused a moment in mid-air before zipping quickly into the fireplace and up the chimney as fast as he could go. AD looked worried for a moment then shook her head. He could heal himself if he got singed. He would be alright.
Piter - June 30, 2008 06:29 PM (GMT)
Piter watched ace with steady eyes. He nodded as the man agreed that rabbit tasted good. They agreed on something. But his question put the cat in an awkward position. He could simply say his intentions were that shallow and he just wanted to learn it for the hell of it. But if he told the man, he might take a bigger interest in his education.
Piter agreed on telling him, and he had a feeling AD knew something was up with him anyway. “In all truths, Ace. I'm not a cat at all. True, I may look like one and act like one, but if a man is polymorphed, he eventually becomes what he appears to be, no?” He smiled at the two.
“I'm not a man or elf or anything of the sort, no. I'm an Elemental. An Arcane Elemental, to be exact. Created by a layline of magical energy in the ground, using my wizard as a conduit. He turned me into a cat and that's all you must know. Explains a good bit though, does it not?”
