Title: Ulnarei

Midnight Dragoon - November 9, 2007 08:38 AM (GMT)
The Ulnarei is a mythological monster, the terror of the Olden Dayes. The Ulnarei was feared, and sometimes refered as the Reaper, for its tendency to kill elders and other people weakened by sickness or a mortal wound. The Ulnarei uses its ability to shape shift to kill people without being attacked, which annoys it, and makes it lose control, becoming berserk. The Ulnarei is a giant monster with many forms. That being said, the main forms of the Ulnarei are:
Its true form, a giant dragon, with seven heads, seven pairs of wings, and seven tails, each tipped with a barb with a venom sack, filled with a poison similar to curare. Its scales, are coated with powder it creates, with an effect like halothane vapour, with the added effect of a symtom much like veisalgia. The scales are a cycle to indicate the lunar chart. The colors are listed here:
Sliver: Full Moon
Black: New Moon
Dark Blue: Blue Moon ((Rare)When the moon is tinted blue by dust from a valcanoe or meteor)
Dark Purple: Solar Eclipse (Totality defines shade)
Gold: Lunar Eclipse (Totality defines brightness of scales)
Dark Green: Fairy Moon ((Rare)When there are two full moons in a period of 30 nights, the second is a Fairy Moon)
Blood Red: Blood Moon ((Uncommon)When the moon is tinted red)
Ethereal: Lunar Corona (((Very Rare)When the light from the sun bounces off of the earth and gives the moon a halo of light) The monster becomes ethereal and is impervious to attacks. When in another form, is mistaken for a ghost.)
The Ulnarei in dragon form is very terriotial and will attack any it sees. It has large claws, the size and sharpness of a greatsword, curved like a scimitar. It has a single horn, reaching up, covered with the same powder as on its scales.

Its other form, is of a elf, with hair that follows the same rules as as of the scales when in dragon form. During Planetshine, the whole body becomes ethereal. The elf's clothing is a velvet robe, with gold embroidery depicting a pheonix resting in a flower.

Its least seen, but not uncommon, form, is a creature seeming to be a floating fish. Its scales follow the same guide as the dragon's. the fish is a oarfish, with a a row of spines on its back.

The monster must always be contained with seven chains, enchanted with containing magic, seven seals, and seven brands that sap its energy at set intervals during the Summer Solstice.

Please answer with ideas and reflections on it. Also, if you must say something negative, say something positive about it. You could say, some sugar with that vinegear.

That sounds like an interesting, and yes powerful, creature but it would be incredibly hard to maintain on the site and would be too powerful for any one character to have control over. The reason behind that is we can't really follow any sort of lunar calendar via site, it would change too often with how long most threads last. All we have is seasonal stuff based on the Greco-Roman Calendar with the assumption that most of us are in or around North America... which I think we are for the most part.

I do run another site that has it’s own calendar running separately from real time where it takes three weeks for a day to pass, but here it wouldn’t work so well. Perhaps a seasonal creature would work better then a lunar one.

Possibly, I still kind of prefer the lunar, but I woul have to get more reflections before I change that, can't change it because of one person doncha know.

Firstly to compare any sugested creature to Sin is an obvious no. Sin was the terror of Spira, a nigh invincible shell holding Yu Yevon who lost his own humanity in the creation of the powerful shell. Not something you are going to buy in the shops. You might as well suggest that the Omega, Emerald and ruby weapons be put in the pet shop as well. Though I see nothing about this creature that makes it as powerful as you foolishly claimed.

The posion needs to be better explained. What does it do, how long does it last? The same is true for the night night vapor. Many many people might not even know what a hangover is, let alone and even less by the name you gave.

With the sedative effects I don't see why the Lunar dragon needs to be larger than any other sort of dragon. I addtionally see no point in having seven heads, seven wing sets, and seven tails. It's all just excessive, particularly when you consider that the eight scale colors breaks the chain of sevens.

The additional forms should be removed. They don't exactly point in any direction and draw the creature away from any sort of focus. They are excessive. The elf form would encourage the creature to be treated more as a character of it's own rather than a pet. The Oar- fish seems just to be some spontaeous thing pulled out from nowhere. If somebody wanted their dragon to be able to shift forms they could always buy share spells, polymorph/shapeshift and levitate to float.

I see no point in the chains, as I see nothing noting that lunar dragon should be overly strong.

As for the Lunar changes, they are strange and there is no way to put a good control on them, but the lunar changes don't make the creature anymore powerful from what I read. The only realy ability to come from it aside from a change in scale color is the ability to be come ethreal. Ultimatly, I think it fits nicely with the Lunar dragons sedative effects. You should however expalin what each lunar event/change inteady of leaving that job to the dictionary.

The Lunar dragon would be immune to stunnning and sleep causing effects, but would not have any breath weapon as it's sedative effects are quite enough. Pricing would be between 900-1000 gold.

Hey! It isn't a pet! Quit distorting the monster!

If this is a monster then no character that would go against it should play it, as it would be an unfair advantage to that player. So then it doesn't become a question of if it is a good monster or not, but who is going to be in charge of it and who is going against it? Basically, exactly how do you expect to use this suggested monster? The use of such a creature is just as important as the creature itself.

I was thinking, maybe a special admin would control it.

Rith - November 10, 2007 11:09 PM (GMT)
The question of it's use still is out there. The admin already have deities and plot lines of their own. The site actually does have isn't own plot that shall be shown more once Veronna comes back and gets around to putting it into use.

As for you creature. You offered a bunch of bizarre descriptions, but have offered no actual plot for it's existance or given no hint of how it could indeed be useful for plotting purposes.
