Title: Halloween Celebration
Description: Don't forget to Bring a Costume/candy
Rith - November 1, 2007 02:05 AM (GMT)
All of Balefire's normal Lantern's had now been replaced with jack-o-lanterns and the dark city was alive with activity. Everyone had on a custume of some sort and most everyone had on a mask. It wasn't just because it was Halloween, it was because it was Halloween on Balefire. It was beleived that there were dark spirits that visited the City of Lanterns on this day. They hid from all but those who showed their true face and self. None dared to test this theory, not wishing to become a vicitm in this festive time of year. Most of those who did not have on masks were either mages using illusions and/or transmutations, or a few who had gotten some Candy form Jackie. Jackie had assured all that his magical candy would ward away the spirits as well as make nice disguises. Jackie's candy had yet to fail Jackie's end of the bargain.
Rith sat atop a rooftop, as he watched the people celebrating and enjoying themselves in the main plaza. On top of the shoulders of the purple robes hiding his childly body was a pumpkin-like head carved simmilarly to the Jack-o-lanterns that were found in overabundance, yet no flame lit the empty darkness behind the carved holes. Rith had many reasons for being in Balefire at this time, yet none of them had to do with him joining the festivities. Such frivolousness was for fickle mortals, not for himself.

A strange shadow roamed the town. It had been all hallows eve, and that is when she seemed to always turn for the worst. That night, the shadow of her true self, came into being on the day of the dead. Black eyes illuminated her pale white frosted skin, her black hair sticking to the back of her neck and stringing about into her face. She looked wild, as if she was an animal on a hunt. Jumping onto the roof, she let go of her cloak and left it laying on the ground, her dress mangled from her wild movements and body language. She stood upon the very top of the room of a house, letting go of a loud screeching sound that was peircing to the ears. A strange aura surrounded her body, as if she was not Kli, but someone completely different. Every year around this time, strange things seemed to occur, and sometimes she would loose herself in the darkness of the night and turn back into her other self. Kil is what she called herself now, and no one could ever tell her different.
Pacing back and forth, she looked for a victim. It didn't matter the size or age, she just had this great urge to kill what she could find, and it was overwhelming her to where she couldn't stand not to. She started to run, teleporting through towards shadows every once in a while. It was a thrill, the adreniline rushing through her body. Suddenly, she pounced, jumping onto a helpless human and ripping the body into peices with her strength. Blood soaked her dress and clothes, and she looked up with a wicked grin, licking her lips and tasting the blood that had spattered onto her face. It had been her first kill in a while, but the thrill of it all was worth it. Jumping onto the roofs once again, she jumped from one roof to another for a few blocks before noticing a figure in the distance that sat atop the roof. She smiled, comming closer to the figure, only to see a boy. She looked a little confused as she neared him, but did not look back. She came right up to him, and started speaking in a strange language. "Mankoi ier lle sinome?" (Why are you here?) She asked in a whisper, focusing her eyes intently on the child. "Ier lle wanwa ai boy?" (Are you lost little boy?) She chuckled softly with a large smirk, licking blood from her forearm as she watched him, blood dripping down her black dress.

Rith caught sight of a curious figure moving about the city of lanterns. The creature looked akin to a werewolf on the night of a full moon, only not holding any physical animal characteristics. Prehaps most curious was the shrill screech she released into the air shortly after jumping up on a rooftop. Some didn't heard it over the festivities, and most who did assumed it was the work of some illusionist setting the mood or a result of someone foolishly stepping outside without any sort of disguise. She seemed to be looking for something amognst all of the celebration with sinister intentions for that certain something. Rith was mildly annoyed when she used the skills of a shadowdancer to leap through the shadows, things were often complicated when people shared the same skills as himself paticularly skills of that stealthy art.
Rith lost sight of her when she jumped down from the rooftop and considered scrying her to find out what the strange female was up to, though it was not long before that was completely uneeded as Kli jumped up again. Fresh blood covered her dress and Rith doubted that it was a mere illusion or in any way fake. Shortly after jumping up she noticed Rith and headed in his direction. Rith doubted her former victim had been enough to sate whatever her desire was. None of his creations were present to help Rith, but Rith didn't need them. He had magic of his own and if needed he could summon forth help, though he doubted it would be needed.
As she approached Rith sensed not one mind but two, though one was certainly more active than the other, Rith tapped into this one. He was careful to not dig deep within her mind as he did with most, for if she found he was within her mind she would likely use her shadowmancer skills to evade even Rith's mental grip. When she came to him she spoke in any unfamiliar langauge, though Rith understood her perfectly from reading her mind. "I am here to watch the festivities, so no I am not lost. But what of you? Why are you here?" Rith repleid within her mind such that it seemed that Rith's answer came back to Kil in her language. The carved pumpkin mouth moved as if it were saying the words, though that act in and of itself was another oddity.

"Mankoi am amin here?" (Why am I here?) She echoed back, tilting her head slightly to the right as her stare turned blank, as if no thoughts were in her mind. In fact, if Rith had gone deeper into her mind, he would have found that she had not been thinking at all. Her whole persona was completely wrapped up in instinct. Not one ounce of her mind was a part of her thinking. Except for when she spoke, not a word crossed her mind. Not one thing was thought about before she did it. Nothing was second guessed or planned out. Kil was nothing like Kli, which would take a few moments to think before acting upon her thoughts, and she was nothing like Ilk, who knew how to behave in an angelic manner instinctively. "Agar..." (Blood) She whispered to herself, as if she always thought aloud instead of in her head. "Yes, Kil ve' blood, tanya mankoi re here.." (Yes, Kil like blood, that why she here..) She smirked, looking to her fingers and starting to suck the blood from them. The sweet taste of blood only heightened her need to kill, her instinct, and the smell of it all around her, the sound of beating hearts, almost drove her to insanity. Suddenly, she snapped her head to the side, her eyes wide as she shivered violently, grabbing her own arms and squealing loudly. Her eyes flickered back and forth between a pitch black and a blueish grey as she snapped her head towards the right, digging her nails into her skin and creating small cuts on her arms.
"Kil be a quel girl. Kil be a quel girl. Kil be a quel girl." (Kil be a good girl. Kil be a good girl. Kil be a good girl.) She muttered over and over again in a whisper, her streaks of hair turning into a red and then slowly returning. It was as if her other mind was trying to gain back control. "Kil vesta be a quel girl.." (Kli promis be a good girl.) She said with a wicked smile before starting to cough violently, blood comming up from her mouth and dropping onto the ground. "Kil is a bad girl.. She must be punished.." Another voice said, a harsh womanly voice said in the normal tongue of Imythess. "She does not belong.." Kli said, finally gaining back control of her body as she let go of her arms. Her hair was now red and black again, her eyes returning to a normal blue. I killed.. Kli sobbed in her mind, tears starting to form and dripping slowly down her cheeks. I killed an innocent bystander.. How could I? She thought, whiping her tears away and smearing the blood across her face in the process.
She slowly looked up to see a boy, not knowing what had been going on previously. "Who are you?" She asked, her eyes still wild from the experience as she closed her mouth, fangs starting to shrink slowly. "You have a strange attire.." She mumbled, not knowing what day it was. In fact, she did not even realize that she was not wearing a costume. She looked around, seeing everyone in costume. Her mouth opened slightly in shock, realizing what day it had been. "It can't be.. Halloween?" She said, before quickly using magic to change her features to make herself look like Kil again. Of course, she was still in control, but she couldn't go around on all hallows eve without a costume. She glanced at the boy once again, walking toward him curiously. "You will not tell anyone of this, right?" She asked.
