Title: Looking for Signs of the Past
Description: Open
Sethran - September 22, 2007 03:09 AM (GMT)
The sun was high up in the sky today, over the shore by Taras. The temperature was also quite high. As the waves came crashign in, and out, a lone man walked across the shore, looking out at the sea.
"Damn..." he said, "Nothing...Am I the only survivor?"
It had been a few days since Sethran Dracogan had wahsed up on this very shore. He had been searching for land outside his own contintent. He certainly found jsut that, after surviving a storm that sank his ship. In those few days, sethran had tried to figure out where he was. Now, he was searchign the shore for anyone else from his crew that may have survived. Unfortunatly, his hopes were getting worse, and worse as he searched the shore. The had been no sign of life here. No sign of a ship. Despite this, Sethran still hoped desperatly to find somebody. He didn't even care if it was the ship's cook, who he hadn't gotten on good terms with.
Upon his back, a sword sat in it's sheath. Sethran had come here, thinking he wouldn't need to use it, but suddenly, he felt the presence of another. Out of caution, the young man unsheathed hsi weapon and turned around.
"Where are you?" he mumbled.
Midnight Dragoon - September 22, 2007 03:21 AM (GMT)
"Up here." Kalarn had seen the ship become destroyed and he had also seen several people crawl from the sinking ship, only to be consumed by the waves. Literally, the waves grew arms and dragged them down.
Kalarn had been waiting for a beast-man, that had been supposedly on that very boat that sunk. If anyone would of survived, it would of been him. But, instead of him, he got a pathetic human person whose senses weren't worth mud.
Kalarn slid off the tree and his blade flew out of the scabbad and sank knee deep in the sand. The sword stood up smartly, as if saluting. Kalarn leapt down next to it and pulled it out of the sand, wiping the sand on his cloak.
He looked him up and down, searching for concealed weapons. Seeing none, he looked back at him and said, "Have you seen a tiger-man? I am looking for him. He is a friend of mine."
Sethran - September 23, 2007 01:01 AM (GMT)
"Up here!" sounded a voice.
Sethran looked up in the trees to see a Drakome..or at least something very similar to one. The sight didn't really surprise the young man, since such beings were somewhat common in his homeland.
The stranger unsheathed a sword, and threw it into the ground below. He then followed shortly after, taking the sword from it's place as he did.
"Have you seen a tiger-man? I am looking for him. He is a friend of mine."
A tiger-man? Well, Sethrna hadn't seen anyone of that description during the last few days..But he did remember seeing a tiger-man abord hsi ship at what point. Unfortunatly, Sethran had not really paid much attention to them, nor did he have any idea if they survived.
Sethran continued to look at the stranger before him, directly in the eye. While the stranger did not make any attempt to strike, he still wasn't trustworthy.
"Sorry to disappoint you.." he said, "But I haven't seen anyone like that for a few days. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have people to find."
sethran turned around, and continued his search of the beach. In the back of hsi mind, though, he was still feeling cautious about the stranger he had just encountered. Naturally, he kept his guard ready in case anythign happened.
Midnight Dragoon - September 23, 2007 01:12 AM (GMT)
Kalarn was not convinced. He was sure that the person was hiding something. Something gruesome. Something evil. Or not. kalarn sheathed the sword and kicked to tree he was on. A stream of cursing came from the tree and a coconut fell on the sand.
Kalarn was hungry, and thirsty too. He picked up the nut and cracked it with his teeth. The juice flowed out of the crack and Kalarn lapped it up like a dog. When there was none left, he ate the skin inside.
"Do you want..one? Hey, where are you?!" Kalarn spun around wildly, and spotted Sethran walking away, this time quite far away. Kalarn slashed the tree and another stream of cursing came, and another cocunut was hurled at his head.
Kalarn dodged it and ran after Sethran. It wasn't safe to be here for long, alone. "Hey! Wait!" Panting, Kalarn finally caught up with him and managed to say, "Hold..on..not..safe..alone."
Sethran - September 23, 2007 01:47 AM (GMT)
Searching thsi beach continued to yield nothing. All there was to found were seashells, water, sand, and occasionally, the small form of marine life. Sethrna was getting frustrated. Surely, he couldn't be the only one who survived the shipwreck! He was only a rookie knight...There had been others with him that had served for multiple years! How is it that they could easily fall to the sea after that much experience?
"Hey! Wait!"
It was the stranger's voice again. Sethran stopped in his tracks and turned around as he watched the drakome catch up.
"Hold..on..not..safe..alone." he said, after catching up. For a drakome, the stranger seemed to tire easily. Regardless, Sethran listened to what he had said. Really, it was better to trust a native of the land on something like this, rather than go it alone, and end up in a major fix.
"Not safe to be here alone, eh?" Sethran said, watching the stranger, "You offering to come along? Sorry, but I don't take total strangers, so tell me who you are."
Midnight Dragoon - September 23, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
Kalarn waited to answer the question until he got his breath back. "Name's Kalarn. Nice to meetcha. Can't help you around guards though. I had..some...er...bad experiences with the law." Kalarn kneeled down and picked up a small fish that was swimming in the tide pool.
"Ah, a nice, good, minnow." He popped it into his mouth and chewed it with gusto. He swallowed, and smiled brightly at Sethran. "Now. If we want to go to town, we go east. If we want to try to..look..for...What the hell?!"
Kalarn pointed to a shape in the water that the mers where playing catch with. Kalarn flew over the water and saw a flash of orange and black. He flew back and started to talk rapidly to Sethran. "It's Talen! Come on! We have got to save Talen! He's the only survivor! Besides you, of course, but, he is a survivor none the less! We got to help him!"
Kalarn started to hover over the sand and held out his hand for Sethran to grab. "It is now or never. Talen might be able to tell us what happened to the others!"
Sethran - September 23, 2007 04:23 AM (GMT)
Kalarn seemed like a nice guy. Luck was favouring Sethran, perhaps. Kalarn began explaining their options, when he suddenly went off track, apparently noticing something.
"It's Talen! Come on! We have got to save Talen! He's the only survivor! Besides you, of course, but, he is a survivor none the less! We got to help him!"
Sethran turned around and saw who Kalarn was talking about. A little ways out into the water, a demi-human was floating, being stalked by seagulls up above. The demi-human looked like it was a mix of human and tiger. He was unconcious.
"It is now or never. Talen might be able to tell us what happened to the others!" Kalarn said, holding his hand out for Sethran to take. He didn't object, and took the drakome's hand.
"I hope he can remember what happened." Sethran thought.
Midnight Dragoon - September 23, 2007 09:43 AM (GMT)
Kalarn felt Sethran grip his hand and Kalarn gripped Sethran's hand tighter. "Hold on during take off!" Kalarn started to fly and went a few feet of the ground. "Time to help him!!"
Kalarn flew along the waves, the waves were truly servants of the sea, they do its bidding without question. If only all servants were that loyal. Kalarn hovered over the body of the tiger-man, and kicked the mers, forcing them to drop him. Kalarn flew just over the water and reached out to grab Talen's shirt.
He missed. He groaned loadly and went lower. By now, Sethran would of been soaked. Kalarn swung again and his claws cuaght on his shirt. Kalarn pulled him onto his back and flew in a crooked line to the shore.
Kalarn flipped both Sethran and Talen onto the ground and Kalarn folded his hands on Talen's chest. Pushing down, little by little, water waas forced out of Talen's mouth, until he coughed loudly.
Sethran - September 26, 2007 04:03 AM (GMT)
After gripping Kalarn's hand, Sethran reggetted it. Immediatly they flew off into the air, where the drakomme tried to grab Talen. He missed, and went lower, submerging Sethran in the water, which despite the sun's heat, was cold. Then, before he could struggle to do anything, the drakomme had put him back ashore agian.
"What was the point of bringing me along?" he thought, as he wringed out his clothes, and shook the water form his head. He then walked over towards Kalarn and Talen. It appeared that talen was still alive, as he was now coughing. Sethran took a good look at the man they just rescued. He racked his memory for an idea of who he was, but nothing came. what was confusing, though, was that Kalarn seemed to know this man, who had come from Sethran's continent. Last he checked, nobody from hsi continent had any knowledge of the world beyond the sea.
"How?" he thought, looking into the tiger man's closed eyes, as if the answer would reveal itself from there.
Midnight Dragoon - September 26, 2007 08:50 AM (GMT)
Kalarn was happy that the man had survived and was still pushing out the sea water that Talen had swallowed. He stopped for a moment and watched Sethran, looking for any change in facial expression. He saw the exppresions change to something he thought might of been quizzical.
Kalarn straightened up and turned to look at Sethran once again. "You must be wondering why I brought you along. I brought you because you know healing magic, or some healing magic. I, on the other hand, do not." Kalarn passed his gaze of Talen's form to see any wounds the tiger-man might have.
Kalarn had seen only a small cut, and it was neither wide, nor deep. Kalarn sighed. and continued to push water out of Talen's lungs. Kalarn hoped that he might live long enough to tell them some information, as it would help them very much. It might be able for Sethran to know what had happened to his comrades.
Sethran - September 26, 2007 11:29 PM (GMT)
Kalarn had seemed to read Sethran's thoughts, as he said, "You must be wondering why I brought you along. I brought you because you know healing magic, or some healing magic. I, on the other hand, do not."
well, that seemed logical, and true. Where Sethran came from, it was manditory to know how to heal basic wounds.
Then, Sethran began examining Talen for any injuries. It appeared he had none that required immediate healing. Sethran was relieved. All that was left now, was for the two men to wait.
Midnight Dragoon - September 29, 2007 01:04 AM (GMT)
At that moment, Talen's eyes snapped open, and he swung up, clawing the air and pouncing on Sethran. But, his claw did not connect. Kalarn pulled him back and whispered in his ear. The tiger-man settled down immediantly and started to converse with Kalarn in a speech that sounded like the wind.
After the long conversation, the both got up and smiled. "Talen! Alen Drena! Where were you! Did he get.." Kalarn looked at Sthran and whipered to Talen, "It?" Kalarn subsided, and Talen looked grave. "No, It was stolen. I heard rumors that someone aboard the Mantis had something that looked like it."
"I went to the Mantis and they told me that person had left. They could not remember the name of the hip, or they would not tell me. It went in search of the person, and saw the person boarding the very ship I was arranged to go back on. It was lucky, and saved a great deal of time. I went on the boat and came back."
"Unfortunately," Talen's face grew more sad at this, "The ship sunk and it was destroyed." Cursing, Kalarn turned to the sea, directing most of his vile curses at it.
Sethran - September 29, 2007 01:22 AM (GMT)
Talen had woken up, and pounced immediatly upon Sethran, who was taken aback. Kalarn then began to speak with the tiger-man, and Sethran was freed. As he got up, he listened to the conversation Kalarn and talen were having. It didn't make much sense to Sethran.
Apparently Talen was pursuing something for Kalarn, though, and it had been lost in the shipwreck. Kalarn had began to curse, and Sethran became curious.
"If you don't mind me asking..." he said, "What are you guys talking about, and what does it have to do with my home?"
Midnight Dragoon - September 30, 2007 01:47 AM (GMT)
"If you don't mind me asking...What are you guys talking about, and what does it have to do with my home?"
Kalarn and Talen turned to him in unison, and, both said, in unison, once more, "Never mind. It doesn't have anything to do with your home."
The looked at each other and Talen pointed at Kalarn. Sighing, Kalarn continued, saying, "We can not tell you what we are talking of, only it is too powerful to imagine."
Kalarn drew symbols in the sand, symbols that few would understand, least of all Sethran. Kalarn straightened up, and drew his wand. "Faerie Fire" He murmured, three times, each time for a different symbol.
Kalarn turned back to the sea. If the sea has the Galator, then it might become the kamikaze. The Divine Wave. If that happens, it will take an army to take it down. I can not allow that!
(OOC: Sethran does not know the name. He only sees the symbols.)
Sethran - September 30, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
Sethran became frustrated. He had no clue what these two were going on about, and what those symbols meant. They may have told that it had nothing to do with his home, but it didn't calm him much. Somethign had gone wrong, and Sethran knew too well that when things go wrong, the outcome can be a nightmare.
Regardless, it seemed that the drakomme and tiger-man would not fill sethran in on what was going on. There was no further point in hanging around them. He walked away, down the beach, without a word to either one of them.
As he walked down the beach, he remembered why he was here in the first place: To find survivors. He looked about, and saw nobody, as the sun began to set out on the horizon.
"Dammit!" the young man said, beginning to lose hope.
Suddenly, the noise fo somethign running came to Sethran's ears. He looked behind him to catch a glimpse of something running out of sight, behind some trees. Sethran followed, out of instinct. Perhaps it was one of his crew members.
He was wrogn though. Awaiting Sethran behind the trees were a pack of wolves surrounding an even larger one. They had pitch black fur, and their eyes were blood red. They took notice of Sethran and growled. The knight drew his sword.
"This can't be happening.." he mumbled.
Midnight Dragoon - September 30, 2007 08:56 AM (GMT)
Talen hissed, obviously unhappy.. He could smell them. They were close. So close, close enough to..to...strike! Talen's eyes turned gold with a ring of red, and ran off, his paws flinging up the sand. They would not survive if Talen was kalrean, or berserk.
Talen ran the length of the beach on all fours in seconds. A obsorver would see a sand storm going along the beach. Talen could almost taste the ursurpers. Talen licked his lips. Oh, yes. He would taste their blood. Their sweet, sweet blood.
Talen jumped on the lead one, and plunged his teeth into its neck. The blood dripped from the wound, and the leader stumbled, and fell onto its side, two pierce marks on its neck. The wolfs faced the cat-person. No one can attack the leader and live, they thought. But, they were wrong.
The first two leapt, only to be slashed away, their stomachs bleeding. The next three jumped, and one by one, Talen slashed them, they whimpered every time the claws struck. Then there, was one left. It hesitated, and ran. It did not get far. Talen leapt on it and gave it the same bite marks it had given to the lead wolf.
Kalarn finally got to the spot, the trek had not been easy. He had to go through a giant crater the tiger-man had made. Then, he fell in sinkholes, seeral times, each time draining him. When he got to the trees, he stopped to catch his breath.
Sethran - October 3, 2007 01:35 AM (GMT)
Sethran had been about to lunge forward and attack the wolves. An orange blur, however did it for him. In a matter of five minutes, the pack of wolves had been taken down.
"Wow..." sethran said, keeping his sword in hand. He realized that the blur had been Talen, but that didn't mean he could rest. The tiger-man had seemed to be in a sort of frenzy. Usually, when a person or beast was in a frenzy, they wouldn't discern friend from foe. It was fo rthat reason that Sethran kept hsi guard raised, as he eyed Talen.
Midnight Dragoon - October 3, 2007 08:33 AM (GMT)
After the wolfs were dead, the blood drained, Talen seemed to come out of his berserkness, and he stood. He brushed off some sand on his breeches, and leaned on a tree, a coconut falling and barely missing him. Talen lazily scratched an insigna on the tree, causing a loud moan from the tree.
Hearing the moan, Kalarn rushed over to Talen and, after a good deal of work, managed to say, "Why...did..you...do...that?! Whooo! Why did you do that?! You know that we can't use that!" Kalarn flopped over, exhausted. He flopped on the sand and threw out his wings, catching Talen on the jaw.
Kalarn managed to stand, leaning heavily on the tree. So much in fact, that the tree moaned loader. Talen looked at the insigna, the scratch marks burning into the trunk of the tree. The tree shrieked, and another coconut hit Talen square on the head.
Talen buckled under the blow, but stood. The insigna burned itself out, causing another shriek, lower this time, from the tree. "Alohalo. Maholoh Malohoha." The sound swept through the beach, a sound like the screech of the wind. Then, the voice returned, in greater force.
"Aloelo Alolo...Alolo Lolo Kaloa...Hololoh...Aloo Aalokae Lolololo Holo Loaa!! Alolohlori Loloa!!" The sound swept like a tornado, ripping the leaves off of the tree. A giant face appeared on the ground. The eyes had seven pupil. six small pupils around one large one. The eyes passed over them, and the face rose out off the earth, countless tons of sand sliding off of it. Kalarn drew his sword, shouting, "Careful! Seems we angered the Spirit of Mist!!!" Kalarn slashed his sword in front of him, the blade pointing in the direction of the collossus.
He glared at Talen. "I guess we shouldn't of drawn the insignia of damnation, now should we have?" In reply, Talen grunted, taking out a dagger he had hidden in the folds of his clothes. "Go back Sethran! We'll be fine!"
Sethran - October 4, 2007 02:21 AM (GMT)
"Go back Sethran! We'll be fine!"
If Sethran was a simple, untrained villager, he would've listened. Unfortunatly, Sethran wasn't one to back down. He raised his sword to the creature, and said to Kalarn, "And let you have all the fun? No thanks.."
Without waiting for the drakomme's response, Sethan lunged forward with his blade, striking the creature. It was made fo sand, so it would seem that a sword strike would do nothing. Of course, Sethran always liked to test his options before limiting them.
"So..these are the kind of creatures they have in Imythess..." Sethran thought, "How interesting..."
Midnight Dragoon - October 5, 2007 08:53 AM (GMT)
Kalarn tried to shout out a warning as Sethran struck, but he was too late. The wound swelled, gripping the sword, and pulling it in. Kalarn ruhed forward, and slashed the tendril of sand, severing the bond and making the sand clutching the sword fall, only to join the mass.
"Alohori Holokorie. Eakilori." Kalarn bowed as he said this, and the mass of sand seemed to nod, and sank back once again. Kalarn bowed once again, and wiped the sand on his cloak. After that was over, he resheathed the blade and turned to Sethran.
"Let me tell you. This is a powerful creature you are most likely never to see again. The strength of the spirit is second only to Kaelin. A wise man has made a poem about it.
In the rising sun,
the glint of the Kaelin's hide,
Has found its enemy wherever it hides.
Its fury in battle is to be feared,
It may take an army to challenge it.
Although they would be killed by it.
"There is much left to the poem, the poem has been burned and only the memory of the poem now exists." Kalarn said to Sethran.
Sethran - October 6, 2007 01:29 AM (GMT)
Sethran had been stupid. After being wounded, the creature began to pull in his weapon. Before it could suceed, though, Kalarn had sent the creature away, leaving Sethran's sword upn the sandy shore.
Kalarn told Sethran of a poem pertaining ot the creature, and Sethran listened well. He picked up his sword afterwards, and looked out at the sea.
"I guess I am the only survivor..." he thought, "I guess it's time I accepted that and moved on."
He turned back to face Kalarn. He owed the man some thanks.
"Thank you..." he said, "i hope we meet again sooner or later, so I can repay you the kindness...But for now, I must leave."
With that, Sethran walked up the shorem and into the woods surrounding it. He would head to taras for the night, and continue to explore this new world of Imythess tommorow.
(That ends it for me in this RP. Thanks MD)
