She was going to get it this time.
Ignicious!
With a snap of her fingers, a small candle of a flame lept to her nails and quietly dissipated into the air. That was not right at all. Solara sighed and slumped back into her wooden chair. The torch set up in front of her seemed to taunt her with every breath she took to calm herself. She had been working on this spell for too long today, and now she was getting frustrated.
Solara slowly reviewed what she had seen from a mage earlier in the day. He spoke his words and suddenly his glass of wine was ignited. He was showing off, but Solara managed to convince him to reveal what his magical incantations meant. If she had heard him right, she should have been able to duplicate the spell by now. She could not understand why she was having such terrible luck with magic, while everyone else appeared to be progressing quite quickly.
She leaned forward with renewed hope. She concentrated, and she felt herself reach out and call for the help of a spell.
Ignicious!
The fire came, and it covered her fingers, and it lept from them. And, as it had been doing for hours, it drifted off into the air and faded from existence. Solara flopped back in the chair and crossed her arms in annoyance. She was hardly making her mother proud today.
Ace had meaning to check up on Solara Embersia for a while now. He wanted to check on her progress. She had notable potentional within her, yet she did not have talent in brining it out and was still working on the skill of doing so. He knew at least that through her potentional and prehaps her determination alone she would eventually evolve into a powerful mage. He hoped that the Academy was benfiting her so far, if not he would do his part in making sure that it did so as a magister at the academy. As Ace looked for the classroom he had heard she was in he recalled the first day he had met her and how she had manged to bring most intringing results with her magic without intending to, proof of potent arcane potenital.
Ace sensed a breif flicker of magic as he neared one of the classrooms. Curious, but not wishing to disturb the mage inside, he slowly opened the door to the room and peered inside. It was Solara and she appeared to be deep in thought. After her silinet relfection she attempted to recast the same spell that had only a brief existance not to long ago, but the results seemed to differ none and obviously did not make Solara pleased at all. It seemed to be the same he had taught her ealry, though he recalled the flame lasting longer than that before.
"It is good to see you Solara, though I must say that your mood is hardly fitting for your charming face," Ace smiled as he entered the room. He hoped to help improve her mood afterall magic had a strong connection with emotion for most as seemed the case when the thought of her mother's eyes brought forth an illusionary flame of blue rather than red as she had intended.
