Title: Aire Training

Madic - September 18, 2007 03:14 AM (GMT)
Madic sat in the classroom, books out, ready for notes. An aspiring aire mage, he needed to be knowledgeable about his area. particularly controlling the weather.

"I wonder when the teacher gets here..." madic muttered under his breath. He had been waiting for ten minutes now, but he had to be at least twenty early. Standing up, madic began practicing with his focusing item, his staff. He would get a new one soon, but this would do for now.

While he used the staff, spinning, slashing, a hardly noticeable breeze entered the room. Madic noticed and stopped, his elemental blood sensing the reasurring touch.

Master Ace - September 18, 2007 04:11 PM (GMT)
Ace was quite excited when he learned that there was a new student in the academy of magic. He enjoyed teaching the fine art of magic and was always glad to have more opportunities to do so. The student was now likely waiting on him in the classroom. One good thing about the reduced number of students was that class were personal and more often than not one-to-one, though ace also liked dealing with a group of people at once. Ace had learned that this student was named Madic and had a paticular intrest in wind and weather spells.

Ace quickly hasten to classroom upon silver wings. When he finally did reach it he soflty landed by the door and quickly walked inside with his his silvery hair tossing about at the whims of some unfelt yet chaotic wind. "Welcome to the Academy of Magic. I am Master Ace, Magister and Archmage training master. You are Madic, are you not?" Ace said as he looked at Madic from the front of class. He was expecting only Madic to be his student now, but Ace certainly didn't mind if others decided to join his class.

Madic - September 19, 2007 12:55 AM (GMT)
Just as he was going to go out to look for the teacher, The Archmage entered the room. With a single stroke of his staff, the winds ceased. "Sorry about that. Got carried away..." He trailed off. He was very excited about this new development, a step closer to being a kindler. "I'm ready whenever you are, sir."

Madic sat down and let his mind roam free, wondering about the kind of things he would learn in this class. Madic stooped over to retrieve his paper and quill from the floor, swept off the desk by the wind.

Master Ace - September 19, 2007 01:34 AM (GMT)
(I'm going to pretend you did answer Ace's question ;) )

Upon noticing Ace Madic hastily stopped his praciting with his staff. Without his innate ability to sense magic he could note that the arcane movements were magical in nature even for the breif amount of time he had manage to glimpse Madic in action. He was mildly wished he could watch more and assess the mage's potential.

One good thing about having one student was the ablity to get the know the student and better cater to his needs which meant that Ace's first setp was to get to know a bit more of this air genasai. "Don't worry yourself about it, practice makes perfect as they say. Now before we begin Madic, do you mind telling how you came to favor magic of the wind and when you first learned of magic?" Ace asked before whispering a spell and sitting under a the chair that rushed to him as a result.

"Don't worry yourself about it, practice makes perfect as they say. Now before we begin Madic, do you mind telling how you came to favor magic of the wind and when you first learned of magic?"

Madic relaxed visibly, no longer worried about having an uptight, strict teacher. After all, he couldn't really trust his sources. it was lanik, after all.

"I first learned of magic at the age of six, when my father taught me to open my mind so that i could learn. We worked for months to get me to cast a simple healing spell seamlessly. After i learned that spell, i could cast without a problem, more powerfully than most people that were actually adept at the craft." He said, lost in his recollections.

Snapping back to reality, he replied to the second question. "As with wind magic, it comes naturally. i don't know, i always thought it had something to do with me being an air genasi." He said teasingly.

Master Ace - September 19, 2007 11:55 PM (GMT)
Ace heard nothing of intrest aside from Madic's claims of talent. There were often those who lacked modest, Madic didn't exactly have a class to brag in front of. What's more Ace would soon be seeing how talented the mage actually was. Ace almost laughed at himself for his foolishness in the second question. Of other races it would make perfect sense, yet Air Gensai tended to always have an affinity for the air. "Yes of course it does, I was just wondering if that was your only reason," Ace smiled.

"Would you like to demonstrate what spells you know already? I would like to assess what you know already and how well you know it before I figure out where we should begin."

Ace didn't expect much out of Madic afterall if he knew many spells and was great with them all he would likely be here too teach rather than to learn. Ace was probably the only reasonabley powerful and knowledgably mage that was still was willing to sit in the seat of a student, though the number of teachers of able of teaching him seemed to dwindle quickly.

Madic - September 20, 2007 02:59 AM (GMT)
Madic felt his heart skip a beat. sure, he could use his propel spell, and control the wind so it didn't muss up the class, but what about the lightning? That would be last, then.

"Sure thing. Um, first off." he said, turning to a good-sized pebble in the corner of the room. picking it up, he opened the window and set it down on a nearby desk. Madic strode to the side of the desk opposite the window.

Clenching his right fist, Madic thrust it towards the rock, releasing the fist at the end of the movement. The rock took off in a beeline to the window, hitting a tree outside with a dull thunk.

"Next off, you've seen this one, ace, control winds." He said. Slightly easier, he thought to himself. this was the first wind spell he had learned.

Madic grabbed his staff, it helped him to focus his spells. Pointing it to the window, he felt the tip draw the air into the room, creating a current of air. planting his staff into the ground, he used his right hand to guide the air, using it to carry his paper from his desk to his hand. setting the paper down, he brought the wind back and sent the paper out the open window. he watched it float about.

Madic spent the next five seconds stalling, trying to figure this out. an idea came to him. the paper floated there, waiting. Raising the staff, he used both hands to pull the butt of the staff to the earth, bracing himself for the next coming. out of nowhere a bolt of lightning struck the paper, sending ashes to the ground outside.

"That's as far as i've gotten in my studies, Teacher." he said, slightly worn from the exhertion. almost as if the spells drew upon his fatigue itself.

Master Ace - September 22, 2007 11:24 PM (GMT)
Three spells, propel, control winds, and summon lightning. Ace had seen no complications or large flaws in the casting of any of them, yet he did note the fatigue that came over the mage when he was done showing the three spells. It made sense, Madic had stated that he his spells were stronger than most. This often came from pouring more arcane energy into the spell than needed and leaving the body mor etired than it would be from casting normal. While it was the the most likely reason it was only one of many possible answers. It might slow down progress, but for now Ace would not bring it now and save such news for later. Possibley at the end of the lesson if he was sure of himself by then.

"While you are here at the academy, you shall call me Master Ace, Magister Ace, or teacher," Ace explained as he recalled the mage's earlier slip. Ace had waited until Madic was done demonstrating, not wishing to interrupt madic while he was at work.

"You've done well, Madic. You've learned more than most of the new students here. Now, what is it you wish to learn today, new spells, ways to improve technique, or simply magical therory and what not?" Ace smiled knowing most students nowadays came knowing nothing at all or next two it. Ace also knew that it was unlikely that madic was here for magical therory, it was at little boring though there was always the chance the students wanted know everything there was about spells of wind and weather.

Madic - September 25, 2007 02:14 AM (GMT)
"I'm sorry, Master Ace." He said, apologising for calling him by his name. In his head, madic smiled. 'could have been worse, i suppose.' he thought pleasantly to himself.

Madic listened intently to his words, secretly taking pride in Ace's, no Master Ace's, visual response to his spell work. 'You've done well, Madic. You've learned more than most of the new students here. Now, what is it you wish to learn today, new spells, ways to improve technique, or simply magical therory and what not?'

He thought this particular question over, realising then just how much he could learn from this teacher. After a silent moment, he chose the day's lesson.
"If you would be so kind, i would like to learn ways to improve the spells i have, before learning any new ones." He said, a respectful tone in his voice.

This teacher was kind and knew very much about all forms of magic. He would have to, to be an archmage. Maybe he could convince Madic to attend the academy and improve his faulty spellwork.

Master Ace - September 25, 2007 09:58 PM (GMT)
"A wise desicion, Madic. I have noticed a slight flaw in your casting and probably the reason why your spells are stronger than normal. It seems you are putting too much energy in them, leaving a bit tired after casting a few spells. I do have an exercise to help you control how much power you put into your spells," Ace said before lowering a hand to the ground. He silenlty casted a spell and a bowling ball-sized ball of ice swiftly grew out of the space between Ace's hand and the floor. Ace lifted his hand and directed the ball infront of Madic by controling the wind in the room.

"Your task shall not be an easy one, so do not feel ashamed if you do not get it on the first try. Your objective is to get that ball to the wall with your propel spell.... without shattering it. Even a normal Propel would shatter this globe in such a task. You must learn to power down your spells or power them up for what ever task you need to get done," Ace instructed he backed away to the side of the room. There was nothing on the other side of the room, so there was little risk of Madic breaking anything aside from the globe, which Ace expected to happen atleast until Madic was completely spent, and there was a slight chance Madic might not break in if he were tired enough, but strong enough to still cast the spell. Ace prepared for Madic's failures and created a few more globes of ice that would later replace the one that was about to be broken.

Madic - September 26, 2007 03:24 AM (GMT)
Madic looked at the ball of glistening ice in front of him. Smiling faintly, Madic thought to himself. 'This is easy enough.' He Felt the power compress behind his palm. He was about to release it, but stopped. Realizing what must be done, madic let the power dissolve. After lettin about half dissolve, he released it. The ball soared, for about three yards. then the power ran out and let the ball crash into the desk, shattering several yards from the target.

Madic grimaced, and reflected for a couple seconds. Realizing he had let too much power slip, he retrieved another ball of ice. setting it on the desk in front of him, madic repeated his previous actions, only slightly stronger. He released the energy, only to have the ball shatter against the far wall.

"This may prove harder than i thought." Madic said to Master Ace with a growing grin.

Master Ace - September 26, 2007 08:06 PM (GMT)
Ace wondered what Madic was smiling about. The task would not entirely be easy unless his assesment was wrong or the mage had merely been trying too hard to show off in the examples of what he could cast and even then it would certainly not be so simple as a walk in the park. Madic's casting followed through within Ace's expectations. He had seen notable effort in Madic trying to not shoot the ball off so hard, yet had still failed. They could only take so much force and as Ace had said before Propel was a naturally forceful spell.

Ace pondered telling Madic not to place the globe of ice on the desk as the fall would might crack them. Ace held his tongue. It made the task easier and made aiming easier, but still was difficult enough to require more effort than a normal casting to not reach the far wall. As predicted the result was not much different, and the ball once again shatter, though this time it was on proper course.

"Aye, not all is seen at first glance," Ace mused in reply. With a flick of his wrist Ace generated a miture whirlwind which whirled acroos the the floor gathering up the shattered ice. After a few moments awter twirling about Ace a few two time it produced the two globes of ice as good as new before becoming no more than still wind.

Madic - September 26, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
Madic watched the whirlwind be summoned near effortlessly. He was quite envious of his master's spellwork. Still quite happy, madic answered. "It is quite harder than i thought to control the exact magnitude of a spell."

Madic shook his head to clear his roaming thoughts, then concentrated on the next globe. For a few seconds, he tried to find a balance between the last two attempts, not quite as weak, but not as strong. The result was more to his liking. After releasing the pent-up energy, he watched the ball float at a medium-fast pace across the room. The globe of ice hit the wall with a little more force than necessary, but the ball held for all of a second before breaking.

Pleased, Madic looked to the next globe. "almost there." He said cheerily, then focused again. He went for the same power, but a hair less powerful. The globe took off, and bounced off the wall with a good-sized crack spiderwebbed across the colliding surface. Madic walked across the expanse of the room and retrieved the globe. he walked back to ace, water droplets forming on his fingertips. Showing him the crack, Madic spoke. "I think i got it! at least for this spell." He said, with the exhasperation of an assignment completed. But not without wearing him out.

Master Ace - September 27, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
Madic had given up neither hope, nor cheerfulness despite his failures. Ace commended the young mage's pateince. Gensai of Earth and water tend tobe the more patient ones where Gensai of Fire and air were more spontaneous and short-tempered. Patience was key when it came to understanding the great mysteries of magic and that was merely one of the reasons why so few became archmages.

Third time might be the charm and Madic's trid try might have been close, but he wasn't quite there just yet. The progress was quite good and brought Ace to the conclusion that Madic's weariness after casting the first three spells was simply him showing of rather than a flaw in casting. Madic's success on his fourth try supported the thought even more. It Ace greatly to see the excitement that came to Madic from completing the difficult task. Now came the question of wether Madic was ready to train further in elither learning new spells or simply learing more of wind magic.

"Well, done Madic. Prehaps I was wrong in my assessment for you to catch on so quickly. The concept of the exercise extends to all magical spells you cast and should you wish can be easily duplicated for further practice on your own," Ace smiled before creating another whirlwind with another flick of his wrist. This one however seemed to melt the frozen orbs and shards and evaporation them in the air as it passed by.

"I fear I have seen no other possible flaws to fix in your casting, so if you are not too tired to go on we may cover new spells or I could help you learn more about magic in general," Ace suggested.

Madic - September 28, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
Madic had been patient so far, having been able to work on his spellcasting. But He wasn't quite patient enough to learn the history and workings of aire magic. He wanted to learn something new. After thinking a moment to completely decide, it was set in stone. "I would like to learn any spells you are ready to teach me, if it's no trouble." Madic replied respectfully.

Master Ace - September 28, 2007 11:33 PM (GMT)
Ace wasn't greatly surprised by Madic's choice. There were few who enjoyed lectures, most preffered hands on traing like learning spells and of course Madic had not been terribly worn by the excerise. Madic however had no suggestions on which spell he ought to teach, as Ace hoped he would. Ace decided to go with the spell he had been casting to clean up the balls of ice, Whirlwind. It was a simple spell and certainly the easiest new spell for Ace to pull off at the moment.

"Very well. I shall teach you the spell you have seen me use a few times, Whirlwind. It's casting is often quite similar to that of control winds. Watch closley as I cast the spell and try to emulate my casting. Don't expect to get the well to work the first time and certainly do expect it to work in a spectacular or even normal fashion. It takes afterall a bit of pratice to to learn a spell unless one is truly gifted," Ace explained before he began to cast the spell.

He rotated his wrists in an archaic fashion as he said alound a mystic phares that he repeated several times. With each repetition the words were said quicker aand the the winds infront of him pulled into a stronger tighter circle. It was not long cyclone the size of a man was brought to life and contained. To make the winds more visible he threw in a little bit of a strange dust he pulled from one of his pouches. The winds took on a curious bluish tint and were quite visible. Ace moved adse and picked a the pace where Madic would work on this new spell. He sprinkled more of the dust on the spot and turned to Madic. "Now you will give it a try. Try focusing on the dust, it will help your winds become visible and allow you to your progress," Ace instructed.

Madic - September 29, 2007 04:44 AM (GMT)
Madic cocked his head as he watched the bluish storm move along, then pass. The hand movements and phrase hadn't seemed so hard. He was growing quite at ease, relaxedly performing the movements with an outstretched hand, eyes focused on the pile of dust, muttering the phrase over and over. he did exactly as the teacher had done. Madic was almost sure that the spell would work.

Almost. He watched the pile for a reaction. a puff of blue air managed to sadly move about a centimeter of dust. Madic was quite put out. He was growing frustrated. Hoping the movement was too small for Ace to see the pitiful attempt, Madic continued, this time putting a little more power into it. The dust swirled about for a second, then died, laying scattered about the floor. Reaching down wordlessly, madic scooped the dust into a pile, he tried again.

The dust swirled around a bit, but no more. Finally He dropped his arms. his arm was tired, his mouth dry. Madic looked at Ace, a smile spread across his face.
"i think i'm spent for the day. Maybe we can try again tomorrow." He said cheerily, trying not to appear as tired as he felt. His left hand massaged his sore right arm.

Master Ace - September 29, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
If mimicry alone could lead to getting a spell casted right, Madic might have been blessed with better results. His form was good, though in turth it was a very basic form and some needed to teak it to their own style to get truly good results. despite Madic's wishes he did notice the weak attempt of the dust to rise. The result was much better than having nothing happen at all. Madic's weariness began to show when Madic madic tried again only to get no greater results. Prehaps the excerise had taken out more of madic than the young mage had expected or prehaps the mage was simply to eager to learn a new spell to practice later.

His third and foruth attempt were certainly no better and Madic seemed to have came to the relization that he was too tired for a fifth attempt to be any better. He seemed a bit tired, but apparently not too tired carry a nice grin and cheeriful attitude. "Of course, that would be enough time to be well rested up," Ace said before hasitly casting a another spell. winds gathered aroun all of the blue power and then streamed it into the pouch that it had come out of. "I must say though it is good that you managed to stir the winds at all when so tired, most would not get anything to show for their effort," Ace mused as he closed the pouch.

Madic - September 30, 2007 04:07 AM (GMT)
Madic was pleased further by the teacher's praise. nodding, Madic replied. "Thank you for the day's lesson, Master Ace. I will be back tomorrow, then." He said, Happy with his progress. He left the room, carrying his pack and his staff, using it to pull himself along the long hallway to the dorms. Turning the dorm handle, he let the staff fall into the corner, dropped his pack, and fell onto the bed.

He fell asleep Reflecting on the day's progress, and thinking about how happy he had come to be as he worked his way to becoming a storm kindler.

Master Ace - October 6, 2007 06:31 PM (GMT)
"Good, we'll start from where we left off when you get back then," Ace smiled before straightening out the room. He'd already cleaned up most of the mess from the lesson so all that was left was to fix the desks and that was a simple enough task for how much they were moved. After that was handled Ace left the room and closed the door behind him. He didn't have much on his list of things to do today. He decided to go back to reading ancient manuscripts he was studing before he started preparing for the class. Certainly was far from being as fun as teaching one's own class, but they actually had proven to be quite intersesting and were much more legible than other texts their age.

(just make a new topic when you are ready ;) )
