Title: A Tall Tale
Kenji - July 27, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
“I mean, the boy had it coming to him.” Kenji’s voice rang clearly threw out the bar, “I don’t show mercy to even a young pup.”
“I sure as hell wouldn’t have.” A man sitting across from Kenji agreed before taking a huge swig of his ale.
“Would have strangled his little neck.” The other man sitting next to the last speaker agreed, clenching his huge hands together to show how he would have done it.
There was a huge group of men surrounding around a table in the bar tonight. Most of these men, save for two, were rather hug, mussel massed men. Each with deep heavy voice and all drunk. The two whom were not mussel built were Kenji and another rather tall, shady looking man. All of these men had come over to the table when Kenji mentioned running into an angel named Gregory. It seemed they all wanted to hear his tail of how he made it out alive. Kenji of course, loving the attention and free food he was getting, was happy to oblige.
“So just as I stabbed him that blasted angel showed up bellowing on about how he was going to make me pay for my evil ways.” Kenji continued his story, one of the men yelling out, ‘Sounds like Gregory all right’ “Course I knew by looking at the angel that I wouldn’t stand a chance against him but I wasn’t about to back down. Powers no, I held my head up high and was ready to give the man a fight for my head.” Of course this was Kenji’s version of the story. In other words, more then half of it was a lie.
“Before I could show ‘em what I was wroth this other demon intercepted and blocked the angels attack. I could have handled the attack myself but I wasn’t about to complain. After that me and the demon made a small diversion and high tailed our selves out of there.” Kenji seemed to forget to tell the men that Gregory had actually let them go in order to help others in need. But hay none of these men where there so no one could tell that it was a lie.
“Your one lucky fella!” One of the men gave him a huge slap to the back before the sound of the bar door opened. All the men turned to see who was walking in. It was another largely built man. One that the rest seemed to know for they all called out their greetings and left the table to talk to him. Kenji was now left alone to eat the rest of his food. It seemed his story time was over. All the same, Kenji was happy just to have food.
Nyla - July 27, 2007 10:28 PM (GMT)
Nyla heard the tall tale, and let out a giggle at the details, she didn’t know who this angel that they were all talking about was, but she could see how much the other man loved the attention. Of course she was having a few drinks to ease the pain that the small amount of light caused her, and she stretched out her arms her ears pushing back, as she yawned, quite reminiscent of a cat on a rainy day. Tired of waiting to meet people, when the group dissipated she wandered over to the table drink in hand.
”Was this angel furiously powerful, with wings of white, and a glowing aura?” She asked half mockingly, her fruit and vodka mixture clasp tightly in her hand, and a small smile on her face, her purple eyes dancing as she took in the details of the young man, blue hair, and blue eyes, wings, and a tail. Not so weird she said, as an unconscious hand made its way up to her own ear, as she waited for an answer, weather it was serious or not she didn’t much care. Realizing her hand she let it drift down to a chair and sat down, ok so she wasn’t just having a few, sipping on the drink she looked straight at him, almost hoping it would make him a little uncomfortable.
She put her backpack down beside her, a slightly drunk chipicana sound a sleep, its head sticking out of it, snoring happily. As Nyla scratched its ears, and continued sipping and staring.
((OOC: sorry tis short in comparasin...))
Kenji - July 27, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
Kenji looked up from his meal when he heard another voice speak. Though this time the look on his face was not the same excited expression he had given the men.
"Yes he was." Kenji snapped at her, his dark eyes watching as she sat, "But I don't much feel like telling some girl about it." He spoke the word girl as if they were some kind of lower race. Something not worth his time.
For a moment he allowed himself to glare back at her, his eyes drifting only to look at her ears and back. He had never seen anyone with cat like ears before but he wasn't about to make a comment on them. At the moment all he wanted to do was out glare her until she decided to leave. Of course he was never very good at sitting and glaring at someone for too. It only took a few moments before he looked away from her with a bit of discomfort. So much discomfort that he was actually starting to lose his appetite.
"Have you ever run into an angel before?" Kenji then asked when he was certain none of the other men were going to come back. His eyes had drifted back up to her ears as he spoke.
Gregory had been the only angel Kenji had ever run into though the encounter had been fairly different from his story. The truth of the story was, Kenji had been terrified of the Gregory and if the other demon hadn't come to help... well Kenji wouldn't be telling his new version of the story. Now Kenji was afraid of ever running into another angel or creature of holy power. Another thing he would not admit.
“Hump, I bet you haven’t.” Kenji forced his eyes away from her again. He didn’t like women. He had no real reason why, he just didn’t.
Nyla - July 27, 2007 11:07 PM (GMT)
Nyla laughed, it was short and annoyed. "You should watch what you say and in what company you say it! Boy!" She said in a hissing voice, pleased that she had out stared him, and took it as a victory. Sitting up straight, she leaned over the table, and put her chin in the palm of her hands, elbows on the table, she rested it there and continued to look at him, this time a more stern look in her eyes.
"You're awfully defensive about the subject now aren't you? How do you know who I've seen. Though it may be true that I've never met an angel, I must say I don't think that they would be that frightening, except the whole glowing part..." She said shuddering, and then letting out a hiccup, yes she was slightly drunk...but that didn't excuse the fact that she was having fun with the young man, agrivating him was quite entertaining.
"My name is Nyla, what's yours Mr. Big Strong Demon?" She asked laughing a little at the mocking name she had come up with just to see how much she could push him, sipping once more on her drink, and looked at him this time trying her best to look seriously hurt by all his comments. "Why don't you like me?" She asked pouting into her glass.
Kenji - July 27, 2007 11:29 PM (GMT)
Watch what he say in the company of female? Why should he? No girl had ever threatened or hurt him before and he didn't believe one ever could. All girls ever did was cry and whine. He didn't make another sly comment back. Something told him that she would only throw it back at him.
"He used all kinds of light magic." Kenji growled as if it were common sense, "He was able to create it with just a few simple words, and, and he had this big old glowing spear. You probably would have pissed your pants with one look at 'em." Kenji crossed his arms across his chest as he said the last bit, a grin growing on his face. His endless blue orbs staring into her purple eyes as if testing her.
However his grin quickly disappeared when he heard the nickname she had given him. He didn't like the name as he knew it was a mockery. Though it was a step up from the past names he was given.
"It's Kenji." He hissed, pouting a little as he looked away from her once more, "And no, I don't like you. You’re just as annoying as all the other girls I've met."
You would think that looking the age of twenty, Kenji would be rather interested in girls. Instead he had a view of them like a ten-year-old child would. All be said, Kenji wasn't even a year old yet, but no one, not even himself knew that.
Maybe if insulted her enough she would go away and cry… that had worked before…
Nyla - July 27, 2007 11:42 PM (GMT)
Nyla heard the story and laughed a little. "I can't help but feel that you think I'm helpless, I'm sorry but I find that quite depressing, do I look like I can't take care of myself?" She asked smiling, her cloak shifting as she moved on the chair unintentionally showing her weaponry, as she smiled quite sweetly. She looked at him sweetly, blinking a few times and took another sip, but there was nothing there. Calling over a bar maid she ordered another, and swayed on her chair.
"So you find me annoying, I should say you're a rude one, and smug too! How many angels have I met, none, but how many people have you killed in battle with your eyes closed?!" Her tone was a little more agressive then she intended, but really did he think her helpless? And if he did, did he expect to scare her off with meer words? HA! She wouldn't be shooed away that easily!
Placing Squishy on the table when her drink came she poked his sides, and he woke up mid hiccup, and saw the drink, taking a few little sips he drifted back to sleep. Nyla drank from the glass next, and tried a new tactic to annoy him. "Isn't he cute?" She asked laughing as she tickled its stomach, the ball of fluff rolled around on the table, and laughed. Looking back she smiled at Kenji once more.
Kenji - July 28, 2007 12:15 AM (GMT)
To answer the question truthfully or to lie. Most likely if he answered it truthfully he would be in for a lecture of some sort. If he lied... well she would probably know. Besides, he never really understood the point in ling.
"Most girls I've ever met run away crying." He had chosen to tell the truth but without saying it with a direct, yes. He had indeed noticed her weapons when she uncovered them but that didn't change his mind even the slightest. He wasn't going to believe her until he saw her in hand to hand action.
He growled, holding his crossed arms closer to his body in anger. It was his way of admitting that he had never killed anyone with his eyes closed. Most likely he would end up being the one dead. He was, as she had stated, too smug to admit it aloud.
"If I'm rude why don't you stop talking to me?" He mumbled under his breath, still not looking at her. He was trying his best to not look at her now hoping that maybe it would make her leave though he doubted it would.
His efforts were useless once again when she placed the little critter on the table. He found his eyes drifting over to it just as they had done with her ears. This time, however, he would tear his eyes away from it when he realised he was looking. All he gave in response to her last question was a small grunt. He did find the creature cute but once again he was not going to admit it.
“Alright yah drunk thugs.” The bar tender suddenly called out, “Bar’s closing up. Time for yah all to head to ur rooms or out to the streets.” There was a loud groan from most of the men after this announcement was made but no one seemed to argue. Slowly and surely the men and women began to raise from their seats, and head out the door or to there rooms.
Kenji had jumped to his feet believing that this would be a good time to ditch the girl. With a huge grin, he faced her, stuck out his tongue and then darted for the door. Within moments he had slipped past some of the men and out the door. He had almost believed that it smooth sailing from here, but he ever so wrong. He ran straight into a rather fat looking men, bouncing right off his stomach. Then before he had a chance to even mutter a ‘sorry’ the man grabbed Kenji by the neck and hosted him up off his feet.
“Got any shinny pennies in yah?” The huge man growled pulling Kenji closer to his face, “Someone needs to pay for my room.” He let out a laugh as Kenji struggled to get free. He did indeed have money, and was starting to look as if he wasn’t going to have it for long.
Nyla - July 28, 2007 12:27 AM (GMT)
Nyla packed her things and slipped out following Kenji out to the streets. Noticing the trouble he had gotten himself into she walked up to the large man. "I'm sorry, but all his shiney pennies are going towards our room sir, so why don't you put him-" She didn't get her sentance out when he hit her accross the face, not being one who enjoys being knocked around she ignored his comment that sounded like 'stupid wench'. Putting her back pack down, she pulled out her daggar and slashed at the man who stumbled back as she reached for another weapon, a bandits sword, which looked quite fearsome, its spikes like a thistle's thorns would stick into the skin and cause more damage than an ordanary sword.
"Put him down right now, or I'll run you through like the over grown swine you are!" She said firmly, the man laughed.
"Bigs words for a small girl! Go away this is business between men!" He said swinging at her again this time missing, as she moved to the side, the man dropped Kenji, well more threw him to the ground as he turned his attention to the most perturbed Nyla. She smiled and let him charge at her, as she pulled out her spear and put her leg out, freezing him mid trip. "Cool off." She said as she turned to Kenji, and sighed. "Some man you are." She said hoping he had maybe learned a small lesson in humility.
Kenji - July 28, 2007 12:44 AM (GMT)
In to there room? Did she really think she would be able to talk sense into this man let alone stop the man from taking his money? Kenji would have laughed with the over grown man when she threatened him if he wasn't being held by the neck.
Kenji figured her a gonner when the man swung at her, but before he had a chance to see what happen he was thrown to the ground. He sat up just in time to witness the huge man freeze in mid tumble. Kenji's eyes opened in shock as Nyla stood, unharmed.
"He... He caught me off guard!" Kenji shouted, a little louder then he had meant to. Slowly he stood himself up, looking at the frozen man a little while longer before allowing them to drift to Nyla. It was time that he swallowed some of his pride.
"Thanks... I guess." He mumbled, in a very, very low voice. He owed her one now. He understood that much. But he still wouldn't admit to a woman being stronger then himself. He not allow himself to swallow that much pried. Not yet at lest.
Nyla - July 28, 2007 01:16 AM (GMT)
Nyla smiled and admired her work, stepping around the giant center piece she had created she smiled and looked at him a large grin on her face as she heard his pride being swallowed, he may have spoken in a low voice, but her ears perked up and heard it. "So are you going to make me a lier, or shall we get a room?" She said grabbing his arm not giving him a choice. She walked up to the counter and tossed some coins on the table.
"Room for two please!" She said as she recieved the key and dragged Kenji up the stairs to the room, and opened the door, flopping on the bed she sat up and smiled.
"You shouldn't have any problems in here, no one to try and kill you." She said laughing a little as she thought about it, if she wanted she could probably manage to kill him, but for now she just laughed at the silly little thought. Pulling out a cloth she tied it around her eyes, the familiar feel of worn out cotton felt soft against her eyelids, as she lay down, propping herself up on her elbows.
"What brings you to the tavern any way?" She asked curiously, and waited for an answer.
Kenji - July 28, 2007 04:59 AM (GMT)
"But I thought that..." There was no point in protesting for she had him by the arm and up into a rented room before he could finish. Most men would have taken this as blessing believing that they were to get lucky. Kenji on other hand was seeing it as misfortune. Once again he was proving to have bad luck.
When they entered the room Kenji was a little taken back by the two beds. Not that he hadn't expected the rooms to have beds but he had never slept in one before. Well, from what he could remember. He even let her comment about him being safe here slide by as he neared his bed and set a hand upon it.
The bed was soft and squishy, like a huge pile of leaves. Only it was warm and soft like his wings. To think that he was going to sleep on something like this when all this time he had been sleeping out on the streets. He just couldn't help but sit down on it excitedly before remembering that Nyla was in the room.
"Just wondering around." Kenji replied still looking down at the bed he now sat upon, "I'm hoping to find someone who might remember..." He stopped himself and looked up at her. He was a little shocked to see that she had blindfolded herself but decided against commenting on it.
"To teach me magic." He lied. Well half lied. He did want someone to teach him magic but it wasn't the main reason he was here.
"And why are you here?" Kenji then asked back, his snotty attitude finely coming back, "Last place kick you out for being so bloody annoying?" His attention, even though he was managing to insult her again, was actually set on the room. There where picture on the walls, small tables, desks, and another smaller room with a huge wooden tub in the middle. He couldn't ever remember being told about such a thing.
"What's... that... in the room over there." He pointed at the huge tub just now noticing the smaller bucket beside it. He couldn't see anything else in the room from where he sat but figured there couldn't possibly be anything else in the room. Perhaps it was a thing you could pee in so you didn't have to go out side to do your business. Yes that had to be what it was for.
"Is it a... Oh right." He just now remembered that she had blindfolded herself. How could she possibly see what he had just pointed to with a blindfold on? Now he just felt stupid to say the lest.
Nyla - July 30, 2007 08:39 PM (GMT)
Nyla felt the familiar warmth of the cotten on her skin and relaxed almost completely, and thought for a moment about why she really was here, then she snapped at his rather rude comment. "No, I left because I had nothing but a room and darkness. No one to see and no one to see me, it was quite lonely, and I didn't like it." She said rolling over and putting her back to him, and sighed, she really was being annoying wasn't she, oh well in the morning she could blame it on being drunk. As she finished finding her excuse she realized that she hadn't put much planning into her great escape and what she was going to do now that she didn't have to stay in a room, really wandering the forests was getting her no where fast.
"Its the bathroom....there's a toilette in there if you need to go...or a tub if you want to wash..." She said now quite distant and sleepily, sighing she knew that when she woke the sun would be shining bright, and shuddered at the thought. She could smell the reek of alcahol on herself and she felt terrible, I don't think I like drinking anymore... She thought, but knew she would end up doing it again.
((ooc...tis short...and took a while...i've been busy....))
Kenji - August 1, 2007 10:44 PM (GMT)
"So in other words, you decided to get some fresh air." Kenji replied with a small smirk as he watched her put her back to him. For some reason it made him wonder what they would do in the morning. Would they go there separate ways, or hang around each other for a little while longer. A while ago Kenji had been planning on leaving, but that had been ruined by the big guy Nyla beat up.
"People bath in that thing? How disgusting!" The way Kenji saw it, if you were dirty enough to need a bath then the moment you stuck yourself in that big tub the water would just turn brown. Then you would just have a big tub of muddy water. You can't get clean in a tub full of muddy water. Then again, he only ever bathed when he covered from head to toe in mud or dirt. In other words, he bathed maybe once or twice a year if he could get away with it.
"People are wired" Kenji sighed, looking away from the bathtub and back to the bed. He was starting to get tired and figured that Nyla was too for she wasn't talking much anymore. It didn't take long for him to fall to sleep when he laid down on the bed, curling himself in a little ball in the center. His long black wings folded loosely on either side of him.
For the most part Kenji slept silently. He did not snore and his breathing was rather quiet. However every now and then he would mumble something or another. Nothing understandable and nothing that made him toss or turn. In fact he only moved enough to make his very end corner of the bed, his left wing falling over the edge and hitting the ground while the other stretched out across the bed.
It wasn't until a hour before dawn that Kenji began to dream. He was dreaming that he was in a battle. He was dressed in plates of silver, fighting off the evil beings who threatened this world. With every swing of his sword someone would fall. He was a champion, a true battler until... Until a dark, bloodstained sword came crashing his way, right threw his...
Kenji's eyes shot open and he jumped a little, falling off the bed and onto the floor below. He did not complain about the sudden pain, but instead sat up quickly and searched her surroundings in a panic. There was no there. No battle and no evil dowers.
"What a stupid dream." Kenji mumbled to himself as stood himself up. First off, there was no way in hell that he would wear silver and fight evil beings. Most likely he would be one of the evil beings. Then again, it wasn't even likely that he would be one of the evil beings fighting in the battle. He was too lazy and under skilled with a sword to battle. Most likely he would have been off hiding in a tree somewhere.
Kenji's dark eyes slowly made there way over to where Nyla should be before they shot up to the window. Someone was yelling outside. That yell was then fallowed by another and soon many people were yelling. There was a bright red glow outside but it much too dark still to see anything else.
Nyla - August 1, 2007 11:04 PM (GMT)
Nyla fell asleep to the mumbling of the demon, and the flapping of the wing on the floor, and she too dreamed, but for much more of the night. She dreamt of her family, and a new reality was created. Her mother was bright and cheery, her father kind and close, her sister Ylana was there, even though Nyla had never really seen her. It was bright and happy, she would dance and sing as a younger version of herslef, but soon it twisted into a rare nightmare, her sisters lips curled into a smile, and the house she had known all her life went up in flames, as her sister's maniacal laughter filled the air accompanied by the screams of her parents. Waking up suddenly in a cold sweat, sitting bolt upright in the bed, she caught her breath, and noticed a great deal of heat, sniffing the air she smelled smoke, her ears twitched at the sound of crackling. Fire... She thought, then remembered Kenji in the other bed.
Opening the window listened to the general panic and choas down below. "Kenji its on fire..." She said quite calmly and found him on the floor and pulled him to his feet. "We have to get out." She pulled out her ice spear, and threw open the door, but the heat was much to intense for her, and she staggered back.
Kenji - August 1, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
"It's... on fire?" Keni asked watching as she looked out the window, his hand absentmindantly rubbing his other arm. Bits of his skin was starting to sting and ich as the room began to grow hotter.
"But how did it..." His question was cut off when she broke open the door, revealing flames of a raging fire on the other side. Kenji instantly gasped and stumbled back, closer to the window. His skin began to sting more causing his heart to race and his mind to panic.
Fire. He hated fire. The only thing it was ever good for was cooking things over, but he could not even do that. Just being near a fire made his skin sting and if he sat near one for longer then five minutes then his skin would begin to blister and peel. To him sitting by a fire was just like a vampire sitting in the sun. It was just plain painful.
"I- I- I can't go threw there." Kenji squeaked as he watched her attempt to go threw but fail, "I can't." He turned to the window and looked out. The flames of the fire was growing really high and from the looks of it Kenji could tell that the first floor of the tavern was completely covered in flames.
If he couldn't go threw the door, then he would have to go threw the window. He had wings, so he could easily fly but Nyla... Perhaps he could carry her on his back. He had flown with someone on his back before. But if the flames grew any higher and hotter and... No he couldn't think of that. He had to get out of here and he had to get out now. He could already feel his skin begin to blister.
Kenji took a couple steps back and wrapped his sleeve around his hand. Then, without a warning he swung his arm back and forward again, slamming his fist into the window. The glass instantly shattered and fell to the ground around Kenji's feet while Kenji let out a small yelp. The sleeve he had wrapped around his hand had helped protect him from the glass, but it hadn't helped enough. The clothe was now torn and his hand was bleeding and scratched all over.
"Get on my back." Keni then ordered Nyla, his wings opening a bit. He was ready to leave.
Nyla - August 1, 2007 11:39 PM (GMT)
Nyla was panicing as well, truth be told she hated fire aswell, the smoke made her eyes sting as it seeped into the cloth protecting her eyes from the light as she reached up to them, the cloth fell, and she let out a soft cry. An arm over her face, she stumbled over to the sounds of shattering glass, leaving the blindfold behind, but before she did this, she closed the door, and seeled it with ice using her spear. perhaps that would give them a little time to get their barings and escape. I want my money back.... Her thought was angry and winced as the light of the fire flashed past her arm, still stumbling toward Kenji the scent of blood was her guide, and she grabbed his shoulders.
"Are you sure you'll be alright?" She asked, eyes shut tightly against the growing flames, Squishy had popped out of the backpack at all the commotion, and he began to squeek frantically and flew out the window, waving to Kenji, and Nyla to try and make them hurry, he was moving so much that his wings got off beat and he fell a few feet still motioning to them.
Kenji - August 3, 2007 09:31 PM (GMT)
The sealing of the door with the ice had caused the heat in the room to die down just enough to help Kenji relax and think a tiny bit clearer. However his panic was still there and found himself a little angered that she asked if he would be alright with her on his back.
“I’ll be fine. I’ve flew with others on my back before” Kenji snapped back at her, “Now get on!” He turned to look back out the window, watching the little creature as it motioned for them to hurry up. The very moment that he felt her on his back, he made his way threw the window and jumped. Instantly his wings opened as wide as they would go making it so they were slowly gliding down to safety. He wanted to get away. Far enough that he would no longer have to feel the heat of the fire on his skin.
They were in the sky no longer then five minutes before landing softly on the ground. The burning building was about a block away, now spreading to yet another building beside it.
“I hope that fire burns down everything.” Kenji growled as allowed Nyla to drop off his back. He was in pain and because he was in pain he was in a sour mood. His arm was bleeding with shards of glass stuck in it, his skin was blistered, and he was still a bit tired. This was not a good start to the day.
((Sorry the post isn't that great))
Nyla - August 4, 2007 02:00 AM (GMT)
Nyla felt the floor leaving her feet, and as the smell of fire and smoke drifted away, she could smell blood, and she remembered the window Kenji had broken. "Squicshy get my rose please." She said as the ground returned to her feet.
As the little chipicana rummaged around her back pack she began to heal using a spell that she had learned, as the soft stem of the ordanary looking rose and grasped it. Brushing it over his blisters, they all began to heal, the scent of blood began to fade, and she calmed herself down a little, slowing her breathing, and steadying her nerves. "I hope it does too...wretched stuff it is, much too bright for my liking." She said curling up her nose, her eyes still shut against the lingering light that the fire still gave off. Sighing she tried to figure out where she was, but she couldn't, and almost growled. "Where are we..." She asked quite annoyed with being lost yet again, as she walked around listening to her footsteps.
The chipicana landed on her head and reached its small hands over her eyes, and made a little peeping noise, that echoed over and over again, through her ears she winced a little, and reached up to pet the small creature.
