Title: Sand, sky and hot wings
Gregory Faust - February 5, 2007 03:27 AM (GMT)
Gregory groaned as he continued flying south, hot winds beating his face. He had been flying for at least two hours by now, and his wings were tired and hot. The sun beating down was effectively cooking him like a blue chicken, even with the effect of the winds. His spear was tied to his chest as his arms were getting tired carrying it, and he was becoming increasingly exhausted as the hot day wore on. He had not had a drink in a while, which was why he was heading North, slightly away from his main target. He had heard there was something of an oasis here with clear waters, an opening from an underground canal, and he planned to plunge into those waters.
His reasons for flying into the desert were obvious. He had heard rumor of a demon sighting here, and although it may not be lynthear, it was worth a shot. Demon sightings were disturbingly becoming more and more common that sights such as Gregory. More and more people were being twisted by evil and possessed by evil spirits. In these times normal people needed hope and assurance, he supplied that in his entire angelic splendor. He preached his beliefs in the passing of the light after the night reigns free, and such a preaching gained him the exotic name: "Flyende Misjonær", or "Flying Missionary". An old, redheaded man from the sea named him as such after he was healed from an allergic reaction, of all things.
Gregory liked this name, and soon began passing it on himself. He enjoyed flying about and being recognized. It was a comfort in his own world of confusion. His demonic hand clenched as he thought of it, and his horns seemed suddenly heavier. Ahead of him was the oasis, surrounded with green trees and ripe fruit. In expectation of a joyous dunk, Gregory unbuttoned his shirt and carefully tied it about his spear mid-flight. For his pants, he flew completely vertically a good distance before swiftly pulling his pants down while he dropped and catching himself a good distance from the ground. He was in his loincloth skivvies now, and just as he got above the water, he stopped moving forward. In one swift motion he slammed his wings shut and cannonball for all it was worth.
Water splashed all over the green plants around the water hole, and Gregory's head erupted through the surface in a stress-free breath. The water was cool, and utterly magical to his raw, sweaty wings. In all of his flustered joy he did not bother to look around for anyone else who might be there, and now after the dive his still didn't bother, going under one more time to wet his head.
Musa Saphire - February 5, 2007 03:34 AM (GMT)
Musa walked through the desert the hot sun beating down on her skin. She longed to fly but her wings were lost, she had lost them. The feeling of flying free above land. Gone.
She didnt know why she had gone to a desert where plants didnt grow, where animals didnt thrive. Only where the sun and dirt lived. A blue dot came in the distance, it was a pool of water. She ran to it her legs aching because of her feet beating down onto the hard ground. She found the water finally and jumped into it letting it touch her skin.
She came up for air and pushed her hair back. She smiled and opened her eyes thats when she saw she wasnt alone, an angel was with her. She turned to him and smiled. "What is an angel doing out here?"
Gregory Faust - February 5, 2007 03:48 AM (GMT)
Gregory nearly leapt from his skin. In a panicked effort he tried to flap his wings, launching water all about as he clawed at the edge of the water, clambering up and quickly shuffling over to his spear. His blue skin turned purple as he untied his pants from the spear and practically jumped into the leggings. Was that girl there before? Lucky he never collided with her in his dive, and how had she been there without his noticing? His pants stuck to his soaked legs as he turned around awkwardly, his back facing the girl in the pool.
"Forgive me... I did not notice you in there." Gregory cleared his throat and fingered as his sticking pants as the sun began to dry him and heat him up. He longed for the refreshing waters. "M'lady, I owe you for my intrusion. May I ask you if you know of a person named Lynthear Golthry?” What better way to keep his mind off the last situation than shifting to his demonic answer-bearer?
Musa Saphire - February 5, 2007 03:59 AM (GMT)
Musa could help but laugh, she didnt want to be mean or hurt his feelings but she could help it. "Uh....its ok. No actually I dont know anyone by that name." She said staying in the water because of the heat. His wings intrigued her, they seemd amazingly soft. Her green eyes looked up at his face. She smiled. "You were here before me, I should have told you I was coming." She looked at his pants sticking to his legs and held back giggles, but she should be talking, she happened to be wearing a black skirt that was sticking to her own legs. She could help staring at his wings....Her own was lost.
She had once had them. But one day a year ago deamons surrounded her, and cut off her wings. They made her cry they made her hurt. So as you could imagine she was jelous of his wings it had been so long scince she felt their soft feathers. She jumped back and went to the side, sat down and put her legs into the water. "Soo like I said, what are you doing out here?"
Gregory Faust - February 5, 2007 04:17 AM (GMT)
Gregory shyly turned to see what was causing the ruckus behind him, just to make sure this girl was not moving in to attack from behind. The noise turned out to be her exiting the water, and deciding his pants were already wet anyways; Gregory sat on the edge of the water, dipping his feet in as well. With one quick turn, he lowers himself into the water and bobbed about, turning to face the girl who sat at the side. "My name is Gregory Faust, or Flyende Misjonær. I was passing by here when I decided I wanted to cool down. Right now I am on a search for Lynthear Golthry. A demon whom is somehow related to me, and I am willing to do anything to find him. Are you sure you do not know of his location?"
He was sure she would say no yet again, but it was worth a shot. Gregory scanned the girl head to toe. She was skinny, thus he deduced that if she were to attack she would be stealthy about it and with a small weapon, or she would cast magic. She did not look like much of a magic user, but then again most hardly ever did. His best line of attack would be to get close smack around with the spear. Having decided on how he would fight her, he felt more at ease in the water, and allowed himself to more or less float on his back.
Musa Saphire - February 5, 2007 04:26 AM (GMT)
Musa looked down at him treading in the crystal blue water. She smiled. "No, I havent heard of him nore do I know of his location. Musa Saphire, very nice to meet you gregory." She held out her hand for him to shake.
She was still looking at his wings, she wished to have her own again. To fly free above everything else, his were very tall and strong looking, hers were small her and more dainty. She looked back down at him and noticed he was built and seemed like a good fighter.
(sorry short post)
Gregory Faust - February 18, 2007 03:04 AM (GMT)
Gregory extended his hand and took his, shaking it daintily. The elves were not fond of hand gestures, preferring rather to bow or at the most kiss the hand of those they hold high in honor, but such customs tended to make humans uncomfortable, and as they were far more susceptible to their minor emotions he dared not disturb their comfort, less they attack. Although he imagined that this girl would not be too much to deal with, he was not in any position to be making enemies.
As he let go of her hand he continued to tread water, and his face turned a deep shade of purple as the girl studied his wings and him. He had come to realize what he looked like lately, and he was used to being stared at by humans. Some stared in amazement at his angelic appearance, and some smiled that crooked smile that told him they were staring for other reasons. This girl did not appear to be interested in such, but the feeling he got of being stared at so intimately made him embarrassed all the same, especially since there were no others around.
"Y-yes, well... I don't suppose you have a name? I would hate to end up calling you 'lady I met in the desert' should we meet later in life..." Gregory strained to begin small-talk, something that would take his embarrassment away and perhaps draw her attention from him.
Musa Saphire - February 18, 2007 11:00 PM (GMT)
Musa dived back into the water, the heat was just to much, she couldnt take it, she would rather be too cold then to hot. The water refreshed her skin. She came back up to the surface an pushed her hair back. "My name is musa." She said. "And yours?" She said politely. She tread water then went back to the shalower end and stood up infront of him, water up to her shoulders.
His wings still intriuged her, she reached out and gently brushed a feather forgetting to ask if she could or not, but it was just simply too hard to resist. She felt slightly embarassed, he seemed shy already.
Gregory Faust - February 19, 2007 12:33 AM (GMT)
Gregory pushed deeper into the small pool of water as the girl jumped in, splashing about and causing a tremor in the water. His eyes darted to his spear as she stayed under for a while. He did not like the look of this situation. Not only would it be uncomfortable for him, but if this girl was a caster, and she just so happened to use water magic, he was now flightless and in her environment. Although he couldn't imagine what a water caster would be doing in the desert. As she came up, she inhaled a breath of air before answering his question, and asking his name.
"Hello Musa. As I said before, my name is Gregory Faust, Flyende Misjonær. Moon-elf and celestial." He nodded his head as somewhat of a bow. This one does not have much in the way of memory. Makes you wonder how much of a mind it has. He cocked his eyebrow in calculation, and as he just finished thinking her hand reached out and brushed a feather. Had he seen her first lapse of intrigue perhaps he would not have acted so brashly.
Gregory twisted and flapped his wings hard, launching him to the shore and up to his spear. At a dead run he flapped again and lifted his spear from the ground, spinning and in one smooth motion casting bless weapon, washing his spear in white light. His holy aura burned with the light of the sun as he prepared in his mind the spell he had been working on for quite some time, Judgment. He was unsure of this girl's alignment, but he hoped she was either neutral or evil; otherwise the majority of his magic would not work. His eyes burned into her as he stood at the ready for an attack.
As he looked into her eyes, something twitched in the back of his mind, but he quickly brushed it away and continued to stand at the ready. It seemed to him like maybe the girl had lost her mind. Then again, Gregory has been known to blow things out of proportion.
Musa Saphire - February 19, 2007 02:11 AM (GMT)
Musa stepped a couple steps back and perked an eye brow, she was of good alignment so the only thing that would hurt her would be the point of the spear. "Paranoid much?" Musa said making her way out of the water and to the stand, she stood in front of him hands on hips. "What were you planning on doing with that thing anyway?" She was curious, why kill some one that is of the same alligntment? Maybe he didnt know, maybe he just jumped to a conclusion, or it was a reflex to reach for a weapon for touching wings, she wouldnt know she didnt have them. "I'm sorry I touched you wings without permission." She said looking down.
Gregory Faust - February 19, 2007 02:53 AM (GMT)
Gregory kept his eyes on her, calculating, when the twinge in the back of his head went off. He now knew she did not mean to attack him, but for some odd reason he was still unsure of her and her mind. Still, he would not be outwardly rude to the girl by showing such a lack of trust, and he would not let his guard down. In one motion he twisted his wrist and stabbed his spear into the ground next to him. Crossing his legs, he allowed himself to slide into a cross-legged sit on the ground. He crossed his arms across his chest and continued to calculate the girls actions.
"Yes, well. I have heard many strory's of my kind having their wing's removed, and I would quite unlike to have that happen to me. As you may know, wings are not as strong as steel." He didn't feel he needed to explain himself, but for her benefit he did, and he would not be afraid to kill her if she threatened him. "Next time you want to touch my wings, do ask. My reflexes can be quicker than my thought."
Musa Saphire - February 19, 2007 03:04 AM (GMT)
Musa got it, he thought she was eyeing his wings because she wanted to cut them off, that was not her intent at all. She was just facinated by them. That was it. "I will. I'm sorry, I'm only half angel so you can imagine my envy of your wings." Musa said honestly, yes she was very jelous, she couldnt not have her own. She had to watch others fly freely. While she had to walk on the hard ground. "Your reflexes are quick, I give you credit for that." Hers werent as good as greorys but they werent bad either. She joined him on the hot sand of the desert floor. She closed her eyes for a moment in meditation. She opened her green eyes again, but this time they seemed magical, they sparkled. Musa often meditated to regain energy.
Gregory Faust - February 19, 2007 03:22 AM (GMT)
Gregory smiled as she explained that she was only half-angel, and that is why she is without wings, and this amused him for that reason, but also made him pity her. She was much like him long ago, if only a different sex, so he understood her jealousy and the fact that human females acted, for the most part, on impulse. "What makes you think I am more than half angel?" The question came as almost being cynical, but he intended on teaching this girl a few things about how he found water to be thicker than blood. At least when it came to racial benefits.
"My story is an intriguing one, but I have not had wings for my whole life."
Musa Saphire - February 19, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
Musa looked at him, he seemed understanding enough. But she didnt have the time nore the patients right now to hear a whole life story so she didnt ask. But she was curious none the less. But she still smiled. "I dont know what you have been through, but we seem alike you and I." his wings were now dry and even more majestic than they had been. She looked at them only for a moment then tore her eyes away. She ran her fingers through the hot, grainy sand. She looked at the pure blue water and the green of the palm trees. They were lush even through harsh conditions.
Gregory Faust - February 19, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
Gregory sighed loudly and allowed his hands to rest on his legs, effectively grappling his knee to stay on his legs and off the hot sand. The memory of not having wings flashed through his mind, and now it seemed so, claustrophobic , for a lack of a better word. Then he had been restricted to the hot, sun-baked ground, hiding from all those who walked and never able to see the distance through the trees that he loved so much. Every now and again he found himself walking through a forest, or other such place, but not as often as he flew.
"Unfortunately, you and I are not as alike as you may think." His eyes turned serious again as he studied her for a reaction. "Were I as forward and outgoing as you, I would be long dead..." Gregory shook the remaining water from his wings and tucked them in closer to his back to give the sun less surface area to overheat. "Were I like you, I would have done the smart thing and went on to teach."
Musa Saphire - February 20, 2007 02:20 AM (GMT)
Musa looked at him equally as seriously. She longed for wings like a starving man longs for food. But she could not get them, she could not have them so she would have to learn how to live with it. She raised her eyebrows when she heard his words. "Being outgoing dosnt necisarily mean death........" Musa said she blinked a flash of memory came to her, when being outgoing was a mistake.
FLASHBACK: "May I sit next to you?" Asked a stranger. "Sure," Said musa, but then he turned on her, his fangs growing.."NOOO!!!!"
Musa shook her head and sighed. "What did you teach?" Musa said, the awnser would be simple enough. What he taught could be a number of things. But it was one that he had taught.
Gregory Faust - February 20, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
Gregory grinned at her comment, and how near the end she faded only slightly. The way she was gazing for a moment made him feel a pang of guilt, thinking she had relived a memory that was most likely painful, as her lip quivered. He had some painful times as well due to his prefer not to socially engage people, but in some cases it served better than death. When she asked what he taught, he shook his head lightly and with good humor. Yet again, she had confused his statement.
"I have never taught, but my father would have preferred it. He has not seen me though, since I left." Realizing that she was obviously curious as to what he was good at, rather than what he would teach, he rephrased the question in his answer. "I would have taught magic, or maybe went on to preach. In the end, this started as a quest as somewhat of a missionary, but it quickly became survival, and my realization that evil was all around us, and I would have to destroy it all." Gregory grinned. "Then, of course, I found myself in a different plane of existence when trying to help someone, so here I am.
Musa Saphire - February 23, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
She nodded her head when she heard what he really ment and his awnser. "I see. Well that awnsered a few questoins I had had. Is their anything about me that you want to know?" She asked, he told her about himself, which could be a hard thing to do infront of almost complete strangers.
She was slighlty worrided about what he would ask. But this is the kind of chance she had to take. Who knows she might learn something new. Like a student in front of a teacher.
Gregory Faust - February 25, 2007 03:51 AM (GMT)
Gregory paused and looked thoughtfully at the girl, willing to give up information on her to a complete stranger, and for a moment he thought of himself years ago. He contemplated actually asking a question, but decided against it. "I have nothing I need to ask you... I have asked all I have needed, and I have given away a sliver of my life-story." He stood, patting the dirt from his clothes, which had hardened in the sun while the water came off.
His great wings opened with a creak. He would have to get a break from flying at this town that he was so close to. "The path of good is fraught with evil and seduction. Now, I am to make my leave. This short talk has been informative for me, and I hope it has been useful for you. Good-Bye, and should you ever need my advice, I am quite easy to find. An angel on this plane rarely goes unnoticed. Gregory flapped his giant wings over the oasis, the sand only slightly being unsettled as the roots held it together. With a final wave he tore into the sky, leaving without allowing her to say anything. Time was growing short, he could feel it.
