Title: Comfort of the darkness...

Eve - December 28, 2003 09:12 AM (GMT)
Eve sat in the caves, watching the lava pools. It had been a long day for her and she felt like getting away from the locals who thought they knew just how sweet life was. She looked down at the black pearl upon her finger, it softly glowed from the light of the lava pools. My dearest Evan. She sighed deeply, thinking that perhaps it was a good time to let some emotion show, seeing how there was no one around to see it. Her eyes slowly misted a soft liquid silver, the darkness in them fading and she almost looked sad. She rubbed the pearl with her opposit hand, her eyes drifting back to the lava pools.

It has been so long since I have lost you, you do not understand how much your physical being is missed. The silver in her eyes began to swirl slowly, sadly as it seemed to well up in the outter part of her left eye. I am not the same since you have left me, left me here alone, to do things on my own. She took off the ring now, gazing down in it as if talking to her long lost love himself. She sighed again, the welling of the silver bubbled out of her eye and a single drop of liquid silver ran slowly down her cheek.

You couldn't stay could you? She remembered the night that he had fallen, fallen to a poison dagger none the less. Not having the magics to cure the wound, she dragged him away from their battle with the townsmen and held him close to her, hoping the poison had not gone too deep into his blood. She dropped her hands into her lap as she knelt near the lava pit, the tear had made its wall completely down her cheek, running down her neck and disappearing as it rolled down her breast underneath her revealing black leather top.

She removed her cloak, allowing her single wing to flap slowly in the air before settling down once again. She remembered there was no pain for her that night, as Evan slipped from her and she consumed his soul into the black pearl of which she now wore as a ring of rememberance. The battle was a long one, they had fought hard, but failed. Losing one of her beloved wings and her only love. She could never show this kind of emotion outside of the caverns of the volcano and she hoped that noone would ever see this side of her. If they did, they would know of her softer side, making her appear to be weak and vulnerable. But she couldn't help it as more silver tears rolled down her face and she brought her knees up to her chest as she grasped onto the ring tightly.

demus was flying around the volcano, one of his precious beasts in his arms, as he was training them to be used to flight with him, and the other was crawling about the volcanoes edge, he was letting them, take turns flying, and climbing to build their strength...he watched as regret, the large jackal on the volcanoe neared a being he had not yet seen....it was eve! he feared that she might throw his pet into the fire, so he quickly darted towards it, intending to pick it up and fly away, no longer wishing to interact with eve....but as he came near the animal, he couldnt help the urge to attempt to fix things between the two......he could not understand this urge, but it now overpowered his better judgement he landed silently near eve but at a distance, gathering his loyal pets and whispering to them, and then pointing to the ground below the volcano, and they quietly scurried towards the foot of the massive fire containing mountain, he slowly approached eve, and when he was ten feet from her, he tossed his blade, as well as his dagger to the area beside her, making sure they did not fall......"no weapons this time, just words...."

Eve - December 28, 2003 09:47 AM (GMT)
She did not turn to face him, she eyes only widened in shock at the sound of demus behind her. She had been so engulfed in her thoughts that she had not been listening to her surroundings. She let out an irratated sigh, not speaking to him but noticing that he had thrown down his weapons. Perhaps if I do not acknowledge this pathetic being he will leave me to myself. She did not speak, she did not turn, only remained where she was. She hadn't even lifted her hands to wipe the tears that had fallen down her face and neck, only let the silver lay there, drying upon her pale skin.

demus - December 28, 2003 09:52 AM (GMT)
"very well..."...he sighed and paused.....walking to retreive his weapon, rejection heavy on his mind..."i wash my hands of you, as i see you have of me...", he picked his weapons up , sheathed them both, and turned....he did not understand why he had attemted to speak with her...possibly he wanted closure....he was unsure....he walked slowly, whistling to his hounds, an unherd whistl, only canines, and some fairies could here it....they began to tread up the mountain....he now standing ten or so feet from her paused to see how his honds faired in their climb..he then slowly began to walk again, hoping to meet them half way and continue their training..

Eve - December 28, 2003 09:57 AM (GMT)
She had heard him walking away, the frown and emotions still heavy on her face. Why have you come here. Did you follow me here? Her words were cold, noone could have heard the sadness that was still deep within her. How her heart had ached for her lose. You say that you have washed your hands of me, like you had walked away from me before, but you still come back for more. She wondered his answer to this, she didn't believe that he only wanted her aid anymore. Why? Her voice had been strong, but with the last question it seemed to trail off. She sighed again heavily as she remained sitting in front of the lava pool. Her eyes still silver and swirling slowly.

demus - December 28, 2003 10:05 AM (GMT)
demus stopped.....his emotions telling him to speak, his mind telling him to continue, that his doga awaited.......he could not help but to turn, his dogs could wait, that was the contents of their entire lives...waiting for him to call them......he too knew what waiting was like.....but he was unsure how to answer when called.....he turned and looked upon the demon who had him so vunerable in his mind, thoughts running rampant....he could no longer controll himself...and he did not like this....he liked to be in control.....in power....the feelings made him feel awkward at this time, he was unsure what to say the female that had held his mind since she sat near him that day in the tavern.....he wanted to embrace her, and tell her that he knew how she felt, that no matter the loss she mourned , he too knew the angst of loosing all that mattered to him....it came to mind that maybe he way she acted was a defense ...against her own feelings....much like he had for his own.....something in him told him to turn and continue walking.....so he did..his deep eyes glowing a faint white as he did..

Eve - December 28, 2003 10:11 AM (GMT)
Eve heard his footsteps stop for a moment, as he debated within himself whether to turn back or continue on his path. She wondered what he would do but said nothing more. She had asked the questions that she had on her mind, why he was there, what made him come back to her each time, knowing the way she was. Only coming back again and again to be denied. Then his footsteps continued along the volcano and she rested her head upon her knees. You will leave me also, not that I need you here with me. She thought to herself things that made her uneasy, a bit irratated with him and herself and with Evan all at the same time. She still held ahold of the black pearl, her eyes closing again as another single silver tear rolled down her cheek but no sounds escaping from her.

demus - December 28, 2003 10:19 AM (GMT)
"how long has it been since you graced the skies?" he turned towards her....asking , not softly, but without anger, or sterness, just simply speaking....

Eve - December 28, 2003 10:26 AM (GMT)
She heard his words and she felt as though he was softening toward her. She growled to herself, angry that she had let her wing out to be seen. She knew the looks that she would recieve, but still she let it show. Then she thought on his words, of her gracing the sky, like the sky would take some great pleasure in having her there. She had not said a word for some long moment and she fought with herself in revealing any more of herself to him. 200 years it has been since I last took flight. She had spoken, but her voice was soft, a tinge of sadness hung on her words. The single wing opened slowly then closed once more. Her feathers looking dull but clean in the light that was available considering the time of day.

demus - December 28, 2003 10:36 AM (GMT)
demus aksed .."would you like to fly again?".....he stretched his own wings...and sighed heavily to himself at he thought of not having them...he did not know her reasons for being so bitter before, he thought to himself......yes...the loss of flight would change him much from the person he was now.......he felt for her, and slowly aproached her....his heart now as heavy as his mind had been...he felt the liquid pool around his eyes, and tilted his head to let it seep back behind them, "i dont think i can ever understand your loss...so i will not say that i understand...i do not think the ground dwellers understand how we rely upon our wings.....i did not even until now...is this what brings the tears to your eyes, or is their a loss that i do not know of....." he scorned himself for prying into her past....its just that he had formed so many questions in his mind...it was as if they had over floweed and spilt through his mouth...he apaulogized, and asked if she wished him to leave..

Eve - December 28, 2003 10:47 AM (GMT)
She had noticed that he could see her now, see the mess she was and she could do nothing more but turn from him. How could I allow him to see me like this, he will only find this as a weakness and use it against me some way. The tears had stopped, but the silver pools still remained. I cannot fly again, I never will. As you can see, even over 200 years, I have not regrown the wing. Her voice was more defensive in attempts to push him away. You cannot understand the losses I have taken. She didn't care to share with anyone about Evan, slipping the ring back upon her finger as she swallowed again, her throat sore now from the sadness. You are nothing like me, you will never understand. She remained turned from him, not wishing to look upon him in her state. She wondered why he hadn't answered her questions, why he evaded them as if they were not asked at all and it only irratated her that he would move past them like that only to ask her of her past.

demus - December 28, 2003 11:06 AM (GMT)
demus felt confused even more by the thoughts in his mind, as well as the response he had received....it raged in his mind to grab her and take her to the sky, but he was unsure how she would respond......instead he chose that he would answer her questions and then leave.....his dogs still waited for him ..."as for your questions, i did not follow you, i come here often to train my pets, and i do not undrstand the feelingsd that i am having at this givin time, i, as i said, cannot begin to understand your pain, but i return to you , the innitional reason i aproached you was to ask you for your assistance, and i still beleive you would be a great addition to my ranks, but i understand that i can no longer ask this of you, ......i do not know how to explaine my minds workings, i see that you have come here to think, and contimplate....i shall leave you to do this, and if we meet again, i shall not speak to you, all i ever wished to offer you was loyalty.....and i never wished anything of you besides the same...i think that were things different, i would like to show you the sky, and how things must have changed in the last 200 years........but they are the way they are, and that said, i do not want to bother you any more....i shall leave you be....again i apaulogize for bothering you..." he turned and saw that his dogs had followed him even though he had told them to go to the bottom, he walked to them and petted them before begining the long walk down the volcano...

Eve - December 28, 2003 11:13 AM (GMT)
Eve had turned to him her tear stained face flickering in the light as he walked away from her. She could not find the words to say, she was both rather irratated and somehow comforted that he was there with her. She thought of his initial offering, but she couldn't bring herself to tell him that she would aid him. Not after everything that had happened between them. She did not understand why he came back to her, time and time again. She frowned once more, the sadness returning to her face as he neared the bottom of the volcano. Still, the words eluded her, she couldn't think of anything to say so she stood there silent watching as he walked away.

demus - December 30, 2003 10:51 AM (GMT)
demus could not bring himself to fly again that day... he made the travel to the place he stayed at night, and he slept in a very strange maner to him...he slept well that night...but he was uneasy when he woke the next morning...he felt as if he had not slept at all...as he slept his mind slipped from the usual things...his plans, his past, the losses he had felt the harsh bite of reality through, and instead drifted to eve, and what may come...

Eve - January 3, 2004 02:28 PM (GMT)
[glow=red,3]She had not rested well, she had decided to sleep among the lava pits that evening. The only place she could really feel warmth. She had awoken to watch the lava boil, the bubbles slowly forming, only to explode when they had risen to large, being destroyed and spread across the rest of the pool.

She lay their on her side, not stirring as the morning sun rose in the sky. The tear stains laid dry down her cheeks and neck, there had been much thought the night before. The black pearl ring lay upon the stone next to her, she stared at it from time to time as she would relive her past from time to time.

If only I had been there, just a few moments sooner. I should have torched them all. Spread an inferno across their lands to wipe them out. Eve frowned as the thoughts ran through her mind as the images were recalled. I should have saved you Evan and for that I am sorry.

Her single wing opened slowly, stretching out high abover her as she still layed on the mountain rocks. I would have given both of my wings if not my life if I could save yours

Covering the ring with one hand, she closed her eyes once more, not drifting off to sleep, but trying to hide her tears. To force them away, but she could not run from her sadness here, the silver droplets again beginning to fall.[/glow]

Sorry about the post above me that was a mistake I don't know how it got posted.
Vines some how found him self in at the egde of a Volcano. Vines always thought him self as a man of the earth and as such one could always find him out and about. To study this place could teach him, good or bad, Vines was always ready to learn. Maybe he could find some thing one-of-a-kind, such as, a magic rock or artifact, left by a already long dead wizard, thats used the volcano's natural energy in the helping to cast powerful spell. But in any case Vines being a good student of the holy path, he alway took it unpon him self to know as much as one could know about the earth, thus he climbed up the volcano to investigate. After a short time Vines came upon an opening in the Volcan. As he steped in he senses a great sadness, maybe that of the Volcano's own sadness or that of a person in the Volcano. But in any case Vines was sure that sadness covered the air. His traning in the ways of good and light made him dead-on when it came to these kinds of things. Feeling empathic, Vines begins to draw holy-mana from the earth, as to cast the spell named bless, which he read about in the book at the library , but for some reason Vines could not remember the last two words of the spell and thus was unable to cast the spell. The sadness seemded to become more overwhelming as he went deeper in the volcano. This only made Vines more willing to go deeper in to the volcano as to find the source of the sadness.

Eve - January 19, 2004 01:21 PM (GMT)
Eve awoke to the sound of footsteps behind her. She didn't move, thinking it was demus come back to hit her while she was down. But the steps did not come to her, she curiously sat up, her darkened eyes searching through the shadows for the figure that made the sounds. Wiping away her dried tears she slipped on the black pearl ring, groaning softly as an unseen energy surged through her body. A bright red flashing in her eyes then quickly fading. Her eyes fell upon the hot boiling lava pit that was in front of her as she listened carefully. The sounds were moving away from her now. Wiping at her face, she again tried to rid herself of the cracking silver marks upon her face. It is always so messy when one cries. She shook her head in disgust at herself. How could I allow him to see me like this? What was I thinking? He knows too much, he must not survive to speak of it to anyone else. Evan wouldn't have it that way. She had caught wind of the sounds once more, quickly and quietly following them through the caves, the lava pits lighting her way as she crept along the walls.

Thinking he heard some thing, soon after dismissing it as nothing but another thing got his attention. The sadness it seemed to be getting stronger. Realizing thatthe source of the sadness was moving, maybe even moving to him. Vines wondered about this but in the moment of contemplation Vines’ eyes caught a flicker of a shadow on the wall. At that moment with one swift movement Vines bolted like the wind in that direction, in which he saw the shadow. In a split-second Vines was upon a some-what lager women, that seemed to be on the wall. “hello demon. No need to worry you and I are among friends, and what a coincident it seems you and I are the only ones around.” looking at her he noticed tattoos on her face. “those are some nice tattoos you have on your face.” But what really got Vines’ eye was the pearl ring she had on. Vines making notice of her long nails, “you know those are some very impressive nails” But what impressed Vines the most was her body, “I do say demon no need to carry all that sadness you have in side of you.” Trying to sound caring and lively, “what would a good-looking demon women need to be sad about, I mean you do look beautiful and your looks are above any normal women.” At that moment Vines notice the demon only had one wing, “You....only have one wing.... you know time to time you can hear one of the old people telling the story about the one-winged demon to the kids of the town and how she lost her lover.....” Looking back at her ring, “and that ring!....” Looking sad for a moment, “and I also know the sad story of that ring.” Vines reaches in to his bag and brings out a black book with a dark-greed X going a crossed it and a small skull in the center. Holding the book up to the demon Vines says, “Here take this I found it well traveling through The Haunted Marsh. I have no use for it. It’s a book on black magic. Maybe this book has a spell that can bring back your lover.” Leaving the book on the floor of the Volcano just before he left.
