Title: A Day Off
Description: open to all
Shain Volgornd - January 24, 2006 04:00 PM (GMT)
Shain sat at a table, his claok resting behind him on the back of his chair. The librar was silent; as far as he knew, he was the only one there. His black, shoulder length hair hung in disaray over his startling white eyes. His tapered ears were bareley vissable, the points just poking out of his hair. He was an elf of sorts, a mixture of the drow and moon elf. He was neither as tall as the moon elves, nor as short as the drow and had an odd, grayish skin. His appearence, along with heiratige, ussualy brought him trouble. he was glad of the libarys emptyness for that very reason.
Rising, Shain began to meander through the shelves, looking for nothing in particular. He idly reflected on the last few weeks. He had met many new people. Even more amazing, he had not been shuned. Shain smirked. it had been in this very library that it had begun with the meeting of Kain Dunnarow. he had been looking for a job. Well, now he had found a few, and completed them. He was an assassin, and his natural abilities had been a help. He had even gained the ability to cast a claok of darkness around himself. That must have been gained from the mix of races. Ussualy drow cast globes of darkness. Oh well. The claok was better.
He had stopped in a darkened corner of the library. The books here were especially worn and tattered. He peered at them, trying to decifer the titles on the sides. They were barley legible in the dark light. He wondered what they had originaly said.
Nariwa Kona - January 24, 2006 04:37 PM (GMT)
Konahomaru was in the library as well, an unusual circumstance considering he usually had no reason at all to be inside the library. Only once or twice had he been there, once to stop a crazed mage from destroying the information and knowledge in the books and scrolls, and once to chase down Stirling, one of his worst enemies.
Standing on the second story loft, Konahomaru's aura spilled around him, quiety providing a strange harmony of light and lightning. From the loft, he could see Shain, someone he had met previously. Shain had piqued his interest, somehow. Most things did not. They were either important, or unimportant. But this Shain fellow, Nariwa Kona had a strange feeling about him.
A feeling that this person was deserving of having an eye somewhere watching him, but it was more his newfound curiosity than an actual need for the person to be watched. Of course, Kona had not yet realized that.
Shain Volgornd - January 25, 2006 02:28 AM (GMT)
Giving up on the decifering of the titles, Shain turned to direct his feat down another aisle of books. He rather enjoyed this place. It was peaceful, easy to relaxe. As he addvanced through the books, a title caught his eye. It was a book entitled Studies of Gods and Goddess'. He raised an eyebrow. These celestial beings, or rather one, had caused him a great deal of trouble. Reachind out, he grabbed the book and made his way back to his table. As he returned, he happened to look up at the upper levels of the library and thought he saw a flicker of movement. He frowned. He thought he had been alone.
"Hello. Is anyone their?" he called out as his hand went to a dagger. Not seeing any one, Shain turned and continuied to his table. When he reached it, he pulled out his chair anmd opened the book. Hopefully this thing would be able to answer his questions.
Nariwa Kona - January 26, 2006 03:38 AM (GMT)
Konahomaru retreated a little ways back and concealed his aura when he saw Shains gaze turning in his direction. A bit off-handed when he asked if anyone was there, Konas battle instincts started to take hold of him. Focusing on the task at hand, he shook them off and remained his cool. When he peered over the edge of the loft again, Shain was no longer there.
Looking around, he found him again, now at a table with a book that he was studying. Kona squinted slightly to get a better look, and his keen eyes did not betray him. A book about the Gods and Goddesses? Kona had not known such a book existed. An interesting thing, but he did not think he would need to read it later.
I know one personally... he thought to himself, making a slight jest to ward off the nervousness creeping up. He didnt realize it at the time, but he had actually gotten nervous. And over what? A simple thing. It would seem very silly in retrospect.
Shain Volgornd - January 26, 2006 03:29 PM (GMT)
The book was definantly odd. It was written by a human mage who had spent most of his life studying the gods an goddess' of many cultures. Most deitys' had a specific nature, such as war, haeling, or darkness. he even found lolth's name, with the nature of chaos. Too true Shain thought. The drows' very way of life revovled around chaos. Pausing, Shain looked up from the book. he had a slight itch between his shoulders as if he was being watched. He slowly set the book down and stood up. He looke around and found an extremly shadowy row between shelves. Perfect.
In a flash, Shain was in that aisle. Drawing on his power, he cast his Cloak of darkness around him. As long as he was in shadow, Shain would be virtually impossible to see. That, with his ability to move amazingly silent, and he would find whoever else was here. he began to stalk toward the stairs to the upper levels. That wes where he saw the movement. Why wouldn't they show themselves he wondered. he had nothig against them. Unless... no. There better not be drow here. Shain eased his dagger out of the sheath. He would be ready no matter what.
Upon reaching the stairs, Shain noticed that they were well lit. "NIne Hells", he muttered. Dashing up them as fast as he could, he ran into the first shadowy aisle he ceme to. He might have been seen in that instance. Once again he began to search the rows. He still found nothing. This had been the level where that figure he thought he saw had been. He should be here somewhere.
Nariwa Kona - January 26, 2006 06:35 PM (GMT)
Konahomaru smiled when Shain closed his book and retreated to the shadows. The Cloak of Darkness spell, a god one for surprise attacks and moving undetected. At least by the naked eye. Konahomaru's Detect Evil ability, hwever, informed him at least of the proximity of Shain.
Kona stepped back into a book aisle, and listened intently. He could not hear any footfalls, only the iconic silence of the library. Until, he heard Shain mutter something. Konahomaru wasnt sure what it was, but it sounded somewhat like a curse, conidering how breif it sounded.
Exactly on the other side of the aisle as well. Konahomaru smiled even a bigger grin. "Hello Shain."
Shain Volgornd - January 27, 2006 02:39 AM (GMT)
Shain whirled around at the sound. Dropping one of his knives and grabbing his dagger, he almost launched it before he recognized the face. Kona. "Of all the things that I expected, you didn't even make my list." he commented while sheathing his dagger. "How are you Kona. It's been a while." Dropping the Cloak of darkness, Shain reached down to pick up his fighting knife, and sheathed the pair.
"So what are you doing in Taras?" he asked. Kona was a nice guy, but he put Shain on edge. They got along, but their jobs conflicted. Shain hoped that Kona never got word of what he did for a living.
Nariwa Kona - January 27, 2006 02:52 PM (GMT)
Konahomaru almost burst out in laughter. He remembered how fun it was to scare humans. Completely out of their wits too! When Shain dropped his fightning knife and then made hast for his dagger, Kona was laughing on the inside. He walked around in to the book aisle Shain was in, allowing his aura to shine forth again, and his slight emerald skin grew sheen to it in the strange light.
"I live in Taras, Shain." said Kona, as if that was something everyone knew. "Besides that, I happened to be in here for a reason I cannot remember. I noticed you, and decided I would spy a little. I noticed you were reading a book on the God's and Godesses." he continued.
Shain Volgornd - January 27, 2006 04:05 PM (GMT)
So Kona lived in Taras. Interesting. But what was he doing sneeking around in a library? "Yes, I was reading. It was mildly ineresting." Shain looked into Kona's eyes. "You should know, however, that it is not polite to hide when someone calls. I know you well enough not to attack you. That would be a mistake on my part, even if you did 'forgive' me." Shain wondered if Kona would recognize the reference. Looking around, he noticed the scrolls. No books here. Wel, not everything was leather bound. Looking back to Kona, he added, "Have you by chance remembered why you were here?"
Shain would not have been surprised if Kona had realy been spying on him the whole time, though he doubted that he would admit as much. Kona probably suspected Shain of something. the comment of "darker motives" on their first meeting hinted as much. Shain would be in trouble if his occupation came up. Kona looked the type to not like killing for money too much, and Shain wasn't the best liar.
Nariwa Kona - January 27, 2006 08:30 PM (GMT)
"Do not fret Shain. Should you have happened to attack, I would not harm you. A good swordsmen realizes that not all opponents are defeated by attacking. But I wont bore you with my philosphical ramblings..." replied Kona, trailing off at the end, sounding almost like a teenager in his mock attempt at being freindly. One of the few emotions he hadnt gained back just yet.
"I was here, if I reacall properly, to find some of the more ancient books on swordplay. I find them interesting, and take useful manuvers and add them to my own fighting style. Perhaps, when Ihave mastered my own style, I shall write a book as well..." he continued, and looked off somewhat daydreamish. Again, a attempt at being more huan than he actually was.
"What are you doing in Taras, if I may ask?" Kona knew that he was onto something. Shain had something to do with his mode of employment that he didnt want certain people to know. Kona was determined to find this out, as it might be useful in the future.
Ethan Decisus - January 28, 2006 01:36 AM (GMT)
I enter the Taras library; The smell was of dust and ink. I walked sluggishly down the hall. i sat down at the closests table and saw a book on godss and goddesses upside down on the table. I opend it and begain to read as if to try to spark y intrest in the matter, but none the less it bored me. as i returned the book to the shelf; I heard voices upstairs and decided to let their business to be. After all, being noisy lost my last job.
As time went on I wondered of the going ons above so i moved closer to the stairs leading to the upstairs floor and heard a person trying to be friendly but was failing. I felt sorry for him he was not easily frightend i thought by his tone of voice, but he still sounded standoffish.
The other sounded like he feared him, and had a secret to hide. This fellow was harnessing a weapon as i thought to myself. Once i reconized the noise I unharnessd my bow from between my egg-white wings and reached for a arrow as i began to flutter my wings and rise to the air. As i fly in mid air in the middle of the air and followed the circle staircase up to the higher floor.....
Nariwa Kona - January 30, 2006 04:19 PM (GMT)
"Hold that thought" interrupted Kona, and he reached to his back and drew his Lightning Blade from under his cloak. The blade was eager and ready for action, and sparks travelled along the blade, and into Kona, making a compete electric circuit between the two powers. The blade crackled with energy, now fully powered and ready to blast any offender with a punishing lightning bolt, or an electric shock that would paralyze.
Kona clamped his hand over Shain's mouth, and tugged him behind a different book aisle. There was someone here. Konahomaru heard an arrow being drawn on a bow, or maybe one being drawn from a quiver somewhere. He wasnt sure, becuase he wasnt an archer, but whatever it was it definetely had wings. Could it be Stirling? So now advanced in his demonic connections he had the powers of flight? No. Kona did not sense any true evil as that...
Shain Volgornd - January 31, 2006 02:18 AM (GMT)
Shain heard the wings as well. he shut his mouth, but still had to deal with Kona putting a hand over. He drew his blades silently, listening for the wing beats. What in the world could that be? He watched as kona unsheathed the lightnig blade. Shain had seen what that weapon could do. Edging a way from it an inche he listened in silence. He heard the creak of a bow being drawn. Summoning thae Cloak of Darkness he dropped a minute ago. He motioned to kona that he was headed to deaper shadow where it would be all but impossible to detect him.
His blades out, he scanned the upper levels for movement. He saw a quick flash of white to his right. Edging up against the book case, ha began to follow. it was headed toward where he and Kona had just been talking. Was this some new devisement of the drow? He hoped not.
Ethan Decisus - January 31, 2006 10:39 PM (GMT)
As Ethan reached the top of the flight of stairs he heard a tiny bit of shuffleing he thought a crime had happend and huslted down the main aisle looking for the tiniest drop of blood. He saw the dust of a spell still lingering in the air perhaps from "Cloak of darkness" but not to sure. Still the thought of a invisible being lingering around waiting to strike him made him feel uneasy.
Since he saw no signs of fowl play he let down his weapon and waited for another sound....
While waiting he thought to himself how rude he had been if to rogue were discussing private matters but he interrupted them and he decided to give it up and huvver back to the stairs he saw a small bench to sit down on. Since he caught a arrow or two in a civil movement as a guard for Tethelin, he grow weak easily and decided to have a seat and question further from there...
Nariwa Kona - February 1, 2006 03:32 PM (GMT)
Kona looked around for Shain, but he wasnt there anymore. No doubt hiding behind his cloak of darkness. He could still sense the evil from the spell in the room, so he knew that he was round somewhere though. In a hunters crouch, Nariwa Kona quickly flitted across the aisle and to the edge of the balcony. Whatever it was, was no longer there.
Cautiously, he peered over the edge, and a bit of his aura did too. Concentrating, he dulled it so as not to be noticed so easily. Still, it would betray his presence to the scrutinizing eye. He saw someone down there looking at the book Shain had been looking at recently, and whoever it was had wings.
What was it with people having wings these days? In a few weeks, I might have a pair too! Kona jested to himself, entirely unaware that it actually would happen as time went on and Nariwa and Konahomaru grew closer to being one whole entity. That one of the most powerful human beings yet to live on Imythess was on its way to completion.
Shain Volgornd - February 1, 2006 03:45 PM (GMT)
Shain whipped around the corner, ready to fly at whatever whas there... and saw nothing. Letting hi spell drop in confusion,. he searched for anything that could have been that flash. Walking over to the edge of the level, Shain peared over the railing, and spotted someone at his table, observing the book he had been reading. They had wings. Shain's eyes narrowed. A flash of white, sounds of someone flying, and here is someone who fits the discription perfectly. Who were they? And why had they looked for him. Or Konahumaru? Shain was going to find out. Looking toward where he had left Kona, he spotted him pearing at the new comer as well. Sheathing his weapons, he approached the man. "Do you know who or what that is?"
Nariwa Kona - February 1, 2006 03:50 PM (GMT)
Konahomaru kept looking at the person down on the library floor. Shain walked over, and when he asked him if he knew who or what the person was, Kona looked Shain straight in the face. Kona smiled. "You suspect the person is after you most likely, do you not?" he whispered back, and then turned to look at the person down on the library floor again.
Kona studied it carefuly. He couldnt quite tell if it was good or evil aligned, but Nariwa informed his intuition it was not an angel or celestial of any sort. So it must have been an Avariel Elf. The race that humans most often mistake for angels, but are actually just elves with wings.
"It is a Avareil Elf, I think." Kona whispered over in Shain's direction. "I do not know whom it is, but we could easily find out. Are you more worried about remaining undetected, or is your curiousity overwhelming you?" he asked.
Ethan Decisus - February 1, 2006 04:08 PM (GMT)
As time went on Ethan heard the "S"s of whispers from somewhere in the area. More and more he thought of the rogues above him and remembered they may not be rogues, but possibly, Black dragons in human form...
This thought frightend Ethan and he began to feel afraid... very afraid. Movement above him was just loud enough to be heard. This was a tence situation with dragoons watching him he thought of him as a pig with a apple in his mouth at a dinner table.
"Enough" Ethan said aloud," I'm coming to finish this hunt once and for all....
With that said Ethan took to flight and decided to fly vertical to the balcony above him to confront themysterious people, rogues, dragons, or evil that lurked above him...
Shain Volgornd - February 2, 2006 02:29 AM (GMT)
Shain nodded as he heard Kona talk about Avareil elves. he had heard of them, though thought that they were a dying speceis. "No, i no longer beleive it is after me. I may be wrong however."
Shain watched the elf intently. He nodded to Kona's suggestion to approach the elf. It seemed fine by Shain. That was until the elf suddenly launched himself upward. Shain's assassin's dagger came out in a flash. It was one of his prized possesions. A wicked blade, honed past razor sharpness, it was the best for making clean kills.
As the Elf began to level off with them, Shains dagger aimed to rest on its neck. The elf certanly had the element of surprise there. The only mistake was not drawing aweapon. Or mabye that would have been the mostake. From the looks of things it only carried a bow. Not a good close combat weapon. "Please state your intentions before you are mistakenly killed, sir." Shain said to the winged figure. "A name would be nice also."
Ethan Decisus - February 2, 2006 02:57 AM (GMT)
Ethan slowly raised his hand and readied his bow behind his back. "I am Ethan Decisus a exiled Grand Guard of Tethelin. I stand to protect the helpless. Who might you be you shadowish figure of a elf?" With the look on the assassins face he was ready to strike. This was not falling into Ethan's plan. He did not like the idea of being cut. He quicky flough backwards to make his bow accurate if the situation did not turn brighter. Ethan waited of the assassins reaction.
WHile he was in the air he noticed a local fist fight below him. Ethan was disgusted at the fact that people would fight in a library. Ethan lowered himself to the mid-point of the room to yell, "Stop you people this is not the place for such actions, Please take it outside."
Nariwa Kona - February 2, 2006 03:51 PM (GMT)
Nariwa Kona stood casually and shook his head at the foolish person. He allowed his aura to shine forth once more, no longer needing to hide. The light energy first flickered, then glowed brilliantly and started to fill the space around him. Light blue bolts of electricity pulsed around him, ready to pounce on any foe.
Kona stepped over next to Shain, and made a slight motion to lower his dagger. "This fellow acts as foolish as he is foolish looking. I think we have nothing to fear of him Shane." Kona said, clearly, but he didnt suspect that Ethan would hear it. He was distracted by some petty fisticuffs downstairs. Kona knew the people, and had since given up. They could never get along.
"Now would be the time to disapear if you would so wish to Shain. I shall be perfectly alright." he said, crossing his arms, and almost chuckling at the fool. Here he was, more worried about a simple fistfight, when there was a drow with an Assassins Dagger ready to cut him to shreds!
Ethan Decisus - February 3, 2006 01:06 AM (GMT)
Ethan turned to notice the two men watching the fight below aswell. Ethan senced that the men were of peace with one another. Ethan turned and lowered to the floor to exit the library. Ethan turned back to the men and yelled, "Take care and have fun. Sorry I intruded, I thought you two were commiting a crime." Ethan exited the library before they could return a comment.
While on the other side of the door, Ethan recognized the beautiful sunset. While walking to the middle of the cobble-stone street. Ethan turned and walked toward the wilderness with a thought of honning his skills in archery. Walking slowly into the sunset Ethan set off.
Fades to black.

Shain Volgornd - February 8, 2006 03:59 PM (GMT)
Shain watched in confussion as the elf left. What was that about. Shain didn't bother to ponder on it. Turning to Kona, he responed. "No reason to disapear now. If you want, you may observe the book I had been reading before I realized you were spying." Shain turned and began to make his way down toward the stairs. He looked over his Shoulder to see if the other was following.
((OOC)Sorry. Bad post. Couldn't think of much)
