Title: Looking for a Job
Description: (A Small Stroll, pt 2)
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 12:01 AM (GMT)
Kain continued to head towards the tavern as he listened to Sekuda's question... He thought about it for a moment, raising his eyebrow and looking into the sky before finally giving a response, "Well, I haven't really thought about it... I go somewhere, stay there a while and then move on to the next place... continuing my search..." He caught himself before he added to much. Kain shook his head; he was trying to keep a low profile, ever since the arena mess with Shain. Even if that was back in Taras, he'd rather not be hunted down anymore.
They had arrived at the Tavern, Kain looked at the sign and read it aloud, "The Green Gyphon... well, it would seem that we're here." Kain stepped inside and the smell of alcohol hit him. He was used to the smell for he drank the stuff quite often. It didn't matter, he glanced around for anyone who looked like they needed a hired hand. He turned around and faced Sekuda, "Well, choose one to your liking... I'll be... here..." Kain said turning back towards the bar. He didn't feel like paying for a drink that he already owned. So he turned back to Sekuda again, "Lead the way."
sekuda matsinua - January 20, 2006 12:19 AM (GMT)
Sekuda's eyes scanned the room, there were many different people here. Most of them fat and drunk, luaghing at things that couldn't be possibly funy. Some were even gambling in the back corner with wooden dice and it seemed that one in a brown cloak was winning alot. He took a few steps into the tavern, his eyes watering with the stench he could not explain. A man rushed passed him pushing him aside roughly to get outside. The sound of hurling explained his quickness. He once more looked around before walking up to the bar and getting the bartender's attention. "Hey, do you know anyone that might be able to help with a job?" he asked. The Bartender seemed slightly surprised, "Ummm yeah sure mate, the man over there in the corner. He's the owner of this here tavern, he'll probly hire you to help serve some pints around.." he said quickly cleaning some mugs.
Sekuda turned around to look at the man. He was short and plump, with a weird look in his face, which was wrinkled and looking as if he had a dark secret to tell. Sekuda wandered over to him, avoiding as much people as he could before stopping infront of his table. "Hello there, I here you looking for someone to help around in the tavern...." Sekuda said in a loud voice, so it would be heard above the luaghter of the tavern. "Sure sure, just go around and get these people some drinks, I'll watch ya for awhile then pay you what seems fit when your done.." he said in a loud stretched voice. Sekuda nodded, it seemed this man had gotten alot of people to come by and ask for a job, it was like he had memurized that asact sentence many times.
Sekuda headed over to Kain with a smile. "Well I got a job, if you whant you can help too, I'm sure hes willing to pay for both of us" he said with a smile, "Basicly we're just going to help serve some pints, maby we'll get some tips for extra!"
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 12:31 AM (GMT)
Kain smiled, but inside he was frowning. Serving drinks at a bar with a bunch of fat drunks? Not exactly the great time that he was lookin forward to but, he'd suck up for a while. He looked at Sekuda, "I'll do this, keep you company, but I don't expect to have a life here, working..." Kain figured he'd understand. Kain was a warrior, as was Sekuda, and Kain wasn't liking the idea of submitting to another man to serve him drinks. Kain rubbed his neck and thought for a second. He didn't exactly have the people skills that were required for this mess but before he could say that he wanted to change his mind, a man called him over.
Kain looked at Sekuda, "Alright, let's get this over with." He walked up to the man and Kain asked, "Alright, sir, what'll it be?" The man smirked at Kain, and he didn't like this at all. The man was already smelly from drinking and from the looks of him, he hadn't bathed in days. Kain winced and waited for his reply. The man was heavy set and clenched his fist on a cup of whiskey, "More... Whiskey, now!"
Kain sighed and ran up to the bartender, "A whiskey for the heavy set man in the red tunic." The bartender shook his head and handed Kain the drinks... What a night this'll be
sekuda matsinua - January 20, 2006 12:40 AM (GMT)
Before Sekuda could reply with, 'Its for my horse!' Kain was called away. Instantly he searched around the room, taking a few orders before quickly running to the bartender. "Okay, lets see if I remember, three whiskeys and two pints of Gryphon Green!" he said with a bright smile. He never really cared what orders were given to him. He would follow them to the word, and a job like this wasn't so, bad it was abit better than cleaning manure all day.
The bartender gave him the five mugs which was almost too much for him to carry and he went off to send them to the men who ordered it. Soon they were all out of his hands and he ran pass Kain to take another order. "Having fun?' he asked with a cheesy smile while passing him. "GET ME---" the man could not fil his order. Having been to drunk to even stay in his seat. He fell over with a large thump, a smile on his face while he slept. Sekuda shook his head than ran to another man to take his order. "Alright so, one bottle of sake?" he asked with a nid. The man said nothing, waiting for Sekuda to hurry up. Sekuda ran off to get the man's drink quickly. Just avoiding another man who decided to dance in the middle of the room.
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 12:50 AM (GMT)
"As much fun as a barrel full of monkeys," Kain replied as he was taking back some ale to one of the guys when the doors to the Tavern swung open. Kain nearly dropped the cup of ale, startled by the sudden entry. Kain cocked his head to the side as he set down the drink in front of a nearby man. "Sir, I didn't order this," the man replied as Kain came back to reality. "Oh, sorry..." He turned to look at the new addition to the men and was surprised to find a woman, sitting at a table. Kain didn't stare for to long, however, he set down the ale at the man who actually ordered it before hurrying over to the new woman.
Kain smiled, "You seem a little out of place; what can I getcha?" She smiled and just asked for water. Kain shook his head and turned around to get her order. He looked at Sekuda and shrugged. He ran up to the bartender and then asked for a water to give the young lady. The bartender smiled and gave Kain the water saying, "She is a pretty lass; wouldn't favor her if I were you..." Kain stared puzzeled at the man, "What?"
Nevertheless, Kain ran back to her attention and set the water down on the table for her... he asked, "Will that be all?" She smiled and simply nodded. She doesn't seem so bad...
sekuda matsinua - January 20, 2006 12:58 AM (GMT)
Sekuda watched Kain for a moment before staring at the girl. He mouthed the words 'go for it' to Kain before going back to buisness. He reached the bartender and asked for a bottle a sake. Once recieving it he ran back to the man who ordered it and gave it to him. From there it seemed no one needed to take an order and were contempt. He went over to the bar and took a seat waiting for someone to ask for something. While he awaited for this to happen he watched Kain and the new lady.
To him she was very good looking, but then again it was just him. He noticed she took a glance his was and he gave a small smile before she looked away. His eyes then wandered back to Kain to watch and see what he would do. It would give him some laughes to see him try and pick this girl up, Kain didn't seem like one who was good at these kind of things. Of course, he could be completely wrong about it.
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 01:06 AM (GMT)
Kain was definantly not the kind of guy who liked to pick up women. This was for several reasons which Kain kept to himself. He hadn't really told anybody why... not even one of his friend who happened to be of the opposite sex. Kain smiled to her and noticed that everyone was as happy as one could be in a bar. He took his time in reaching the bar but finally he sat down. He looked at the bartender, "Can I get you anything? On the house, since you boys did a fine job..." Kain took no time in answering with an order, "Sake, that's all... just a nice cup of sake..."
"Coming right up..." The bartender walked away. Kain looked around, strangely enough, things had grown quiet. Even the owner was just sitting down quietly drinking whatever he had. Kain turned to Sekuda, "It's a bit quiet in here ain't it?" He said raising an eyebrow and looking around the bar. Everyone seemed normal but they just weren't talking...
sekuda matsinua - January 20, 2006 01:13 AM (GMT)
Sekuda looked around the bar also noticing the sudden quietness. Everyone was just sitting around drinking minding their own buisness and some talking quietly, in a whisper. He shrugged it off and got up from his seat slowly. "I'll go get the money we've earned" he said with a smile walking over to the owner. It was much easier this time to weave around the tables, as there was no one dancing in the middle of the room now and people weren't moving about. He stopped infront of the owner with a short grin. "Alright so how much do we get?" Sekuda asked looking down at him. "Shhhh! Quiet, here take this.." he quickly reached into his pocket and brought out a small bag of gold. Sekuda shook it with a smile on his face then headed back to Kain.
"Here" he said tossing him half of the coins from the bag. The rest was placed in his pocket for himself. "I can't believe everyone is so quiet.." he said looking around slowly before sitting down beside Kain.
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 01:34 AM (GMT)
Kain watched Sekuda get up and retrieve their money. Kain was beginning to get disturbed, by all the silence... it was haunting. Kain listened and he could hear the owner say "shhh" as he handed money to Sekuda. He was really started to get angry, he didn't really know why, but the silence was simply just getting to him. The bartender's eyes got wide as Sekuda came back with the gold. Kain caught his share of the money and stuffed it in the outer pocket of his bag.
Kain looked around and saw that the moon was shining brighter than ever. It must've been nearly midnight, Kain smiled, finally realizing how worth it all this mess was. Suddenly the doors burst open again and there were four men dressed in all black standing at the door. They were tall, but none were as tall as he or Sekuda, they were skinny, thin, but muscled. Their clothing was all black and tight around them. They wore masks to conceal their identity.
"Alright! Time for our share of the loot!" They yelled as they ran up to the owner. Kain looked at Sekuda and grinned evilly, "I think we've run into a little action... you ready?"
Kain drew his sword and pointed it at the nearest bandit. "Leave that man alone and come get my gold," Kain said, waving his pack, listening to the jingling sound of gold.
sekuda matsinua - January 20, 2006 01:42 AM (GMT)
Sekuda jumped out of his seat. The quietness had really gotten to him also in a scary way, added with the door opening suddenly scared him half to death. When the bandits came in he just sat there boredly. After Kain gave him a grin he got up slowly. He stretched his arms slowly before his right hand went down grabbing the hilt of his sword. Slowly the sound of the metal blade scratched against the metal rim of the sheath, allowing all to realise, even if they were not looking that his blade had been drawn.
"Alright there boy, which one of you would like to go first?" he asked holding the blade by his side, in a sloppy position. The light of the candles in the room, reflected off the blade giving it a light glow. A grin was printed on his face, he was happy that he would be able to get a fight in today, even if it was with some bandits. He awaited for Kain, or one of the bandits to make the first move.
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 01:53 AM (GMT)
Kain smirked at the response and held his katana straight out towards one of the bandits. He laughed and kept the smirk on his face, "Which one of you wisecracks is the leader..." The bandit who opened his mouth to speak first came up even closer, but stayed a reasonable distance from Kain, "I am, what's it to you..."
Kain ran straight at him and the bandit swung his dagger into air. He gave a strangled cry as Kain had ducked and swept his feet out from under him with his leg. The bandit swung out into air again as he fell to the ground, Kain had already jumped back. As the bandit began to regain himself Kain gave a sour look, "Fool... you should've stayed down..."
Kain made a second assualt, this time with the sliding across the tavern floor. The bandit doubled over backwards as a sword went into his gut. He groaned and fell to the ground, never to breathe again. The other bandits drew their daggers and laughed, "You'll never leave hear alive!"
"I beg to differ," Kain said cleaning the blood from the blade on the dead bandits clothes...
sekuda matsinua - January 20, 2006 02:01 AM (GMT)
Sekuda had his grin still placed across his face as he stepped forward. "Let me test my blade!" he annouced with great athusiasm(sp?). He lunged forward at the closest bandit, his blade outstretched. The bandit had dodged the attack, moving to the left. Just as Sekuda had wanted. As he moved forward more his elbow had come out, hitting the bandit across the head. Then Sekuda planted his right foot on the ground and spun around. The whole motion sent him quickly around, untill his still outstretched blade ended up in the man's gunt across. He pulled the blade out, as the bloodied body fell to the floor limp. Sekuda grinned turning around so his back was not more exposed to the other two bandits.
He flicked his blade once, most of the blood coming off, landing on the tavern floor. "Well, there are two left Kain, one for you and one for me?" he said with a grin and a chuckle. "I guess I can let you have the next one.." he then said taking a few steps back for Kain to take his turn.
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 02:15 AM (GMT)
((ooc: enthusiasm :) ))
Kain watched Sekuda do his business with another bandit and watched the blood splatter across the tavern floor. Sekuda announced that it was Kain's turn and he turned to see the bandit holding the owner, who had fainted from all the excitement. He threatened to kill the owner if Kain got any closer.
"Do you think I'm stupid," Kain asked with a grin growing on his face, "The only reason you came in here was to steal that guy's money," Kain said pointed at the owner, "You don't have two clues where it is and you don't want to kill him because then you won't get it. You bandits are out of your minds."
Kain started to rush the man, but a sword came from nearby and speared him through. He moaned and fell to the ground. Kain looked puzzled for a moment... there she stood, with a bloodied blade in her hand, the girl he had given water to. He smiled, "Nice..." he replied as he rushed the final bandit.
Again, the bandit was fooled, expecting a trip from Kain but instead got a sword in his side. Kain turned around to Sekuda, "Well, that was exciting..."
sekuda matsinua - January 20, 2006 02:21 AM (GMT)
He sheathed his sword slowly looking around at the bloodied bodies. He then looked at Kain. "Next time, I get to kill two bandits.." he said with a small grin across his face. He then turned around to the woman. "Thank you" he siad with another nod before turning around to face the owner. "Oh you better give us some moeny for that!" he raised his voice as he said that so the man could hear him from across the room.
The small man got up from his chair and ran up to Sekuda as fast as his little legs would take him. When he arrived he had already taken a much larger pouch of coins and handed it to Sekuda. Then ran back to his seat. The pouch was open in an instant, his hand went inside to pull out one third of it's contents and handed to the girl then walked over to Kain, holding out another third of the gold. "Well, that beats serving drinks anyday!" he said with a smile to him.
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 02:40 AM (GMT)
Kain looked at the gold in his hands; even though it was only a third of the contents, it still outweighed the amout of gold he had recieved for waiting on costomers. Kain looked at Sekuda and grinned, "You bet the Hells it does!" He yelled as he picked up his sake off the bar and took a drink, finally remembering that it existed.
The owner scrambled to his feet and grabbed Kain and nearly pulled him down, "Tch... that sure ain't the way to treat someone who just saved your life..." Kain smirked at him and the owner panted heavily, "You have saved me this time, but more will come... I swear to you... there's a whole gang of them."
Kain looked at the man who was grovelling and looked up at Sekuda, "How bout we take care of this little "gang" problem you got for some extra gold?" He bent down and looked the owner in the face, "We'll take down the real gang leader and take him off your hands, but me and my friend here expect a little pay for it... are we clear?"
The owner nodded and slid away; Kain looked at the woman, "You wouldn't mind staying here and guarding the place while we hunt these bandits down?" She simply nodded as she cleaned off her blade. Kain looked at Sekuda, "So much fun, so much time." Kain waited for Sekuda to lead the way, "I'm sure these guy's should be all over the place... lead away Sekuda..."
sekuda matsinua - January 20, 2006 02:49 AM (GMT)
"More money!" he smiled with glee. He would soon be able to afford his new horses, maby even all the equipment he needed to ride it like the saddle, and bridle. His smile was stuck on his face now, never to leave ever. He opened the door to the tavern and stepped out taking a deep breath. "Alright, now if I were a Bandit, I would probly hid....in...a hidout yes a hidout.." he shook his head stupidly looking around. There were few houses near the tavern, and he did suspect these bandits to be anywhere near here. "Let's head to the town square and start from there!" he said turning and waiting for Kain.
"I don't know this place as well as you probly do so you can lead the way?" he turned around once again looking around and awaiting for Kain to lead the way. He continued to image himself ridding on his new horse, which was now closer to him then ever. After this job was done he would probly be able to afford his new horse.
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 02:59 AM (GMT)
((OOC: Only four more posts until you can get your horse))
Kain smiled; he seems pretty cheerful, Kain was just hoping that this didn't go to far or that they didn't get themselves killed. Kain nodded and walked out the door, waving to Sekuda to follow and then waving goodbye to the young lady who had helped them. She smiled and waved back and Kain walked out. He remembered the way to the gates, that was where he headed during his first venture to Kellen, but he remembered that the town center square was the path that lead away from the tavern to the north.... well sort of to the north. But it didn't matter.
Kain left his sword drawn, switching it between his hands... he was excited about this, he was ready to hunt these guys down. Besides, Sekuda really wanted that horse and Kain wasn't about to deny him what he wanted.
Kain waited for Seduka outside the Tavern; kain was almost bursting with excitment...

(OOC: Actually 13 more, I whant to get horseshoes, saddle,Horse braces...etc)
Sekuda followed Kain's example, drawing his own blade incase he needed it also. "After what he payed us for just killing four bandits I would love to see what he will pay us for this!" he said with glee. "I'm getting my horse in the morning!' he looked around impatiently wanting his money quickly. He was jumping up and down inside only stoping as henoticed a shadow in the corner of his eye. He took a few steps forward standing behind Kain.
"The ally to the left...there's someone there....wait for awhile" he said in a whisper to Kain. "Don't look..." he then added before smiling. "Where's the town Square then?" he asked louder, in his normal voice. He didn't really care where the town square was now, he just wanted to get the man in the shadows. He ran ahead quickly, hoping that Kain would follow him around the corner. He was hoping to go around the house and get into the ally behind the man or woman.
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
((OOC: ah, of course, silly me, all horses need sadles))
Kain followed Sekuda around the corner, to see a shadow in the alley way. Kain looked around, there wasn't much room for him to fight; he used a art of fighting called Champloo and without sufficient room, the random movements that are needed get cramped and hard to manuver. Kain frowned, this was not good, he would have to get Sekuda to take this guy, if any trouble showed up. Kain was silent as he continued to follow Sekuda. Finally he whispered, "Um... yeah, you gonna find out who this is or what?"
Kain waited for a response in the dark alley. He could see ok but it wasn't the best place for a fight as he remembered earlier thoughts. Kain held on to the side of the alley and waited for Sekuda to do his thing...
sekuda matsinua - January 20, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)
Sekuda moved to a the edge of the entrance to the ally and peered around before pulling back. "I can just make out the outline of his body...you any good with fighting in tight spaces?" he asked whisper as he lookedover at him. "Never mind....I think I know what to do..." he said slowly and silently sheathing his sword so it would make no sound. After that he bent down slowly picking up a fist sized rock, that had fallen loose a long time ago from the house behind them.
Quickly he turned the corner and chucked the rock hard. It did not find it's place to gracefully, nailing him in the calve instead of the head but it gave a hurting to him for he was limping away slowly. Sekuda ran quickly and tackled the man to the ground, holding him down so that Kain could assist him. The man wore tattered clothing, but black like the bandits and a black bandana was tied around his face to keep. His hair was bornw, and greasy and a uneasy smell arose from him.
Kain Dunarrow - January 21, 2006 05:23 PM (GMT)
Kain made a weak smile as Sekuda asked the question and Kain simply replied, "Uh..." It was a little late, for Sekuda had alread turned the corned and quickly dispatched the foe in the darkness. Kain's smile became stronger, "But it looks like I won't have to be." He ran up and put his sword up to the guy's neck and pressed down gently and started to make threats for answers, "Who are you? Are you one of the bandits that are terrorizing the owner of the Green Gryphon?"
He awaited a response, but there was only the sound of heavy breathing in the dark alley. Kain waited for what seemed like a life time, but no response came, just more quivering and heavy breathing. Kain began to get impatient and he pressed the blade against the man's throat, "Answer me!!" Kain growled, "Or I cut your throat..."
sekuda matsinua - January 21, 2006 05:31 PM (GMT)
Sekuda pushed down on the man. His neck slowly getting tickled by the blade, untill a small cut had formed on his neck, not enough to kill him but enough to convince him they would do it. "Alright! Alright! Don't hurt me...I'm one of the bandits....." he whimpered, eyes closed afriad that his life would end soon. "Where are the rest of the bandits?" Sekuda asked pushing his neck abit more. "Ahhh!! They're......They're at the Debon Plains. There's a small hut there...inside they're is a crate. Open it up and you'll find a passageway down it. The bottem is cut out, so it opens to a tunnel...now leave me alone please!" he begged misserably, eyes closed not daring to make a move.
Sekuda arose from the ground, his hand pulling up the scrawny many by the back of his neck. "We'll bring him along to see if he's telling the truth.." he said speaking to Kain. "If he isn't we'll kill him!" he grinned evily looking at the man's teared eyes. "Kain do you know where this Debon Plain is?" he then asked, not sure of where these plains could lay.
Kain Dunarrow - January 21, 2006 05:50 PM (GMT)
Kain couldn't recall going or even hearing of the debon plains; must've been right outside of Kellen though, there was no reason for the bandits to stray to far from their source of payment. Kain continued to be silent for a moment and kept the blade up against the bandit's neck. "I'm not sure, shouldn't be to far though." Kain removed the blade but kept a firm grip on the man's torn outfit, "You can lead us there... and if you're leading us on a meaningless chace, I swear I'll..." Kain clenched his fist, which made his point.
Kain lifted the man up and kept a good grip on his black clothing. "Don't run, we'll hunt you down..." Kain pushed the man forward, signifying that he was ready to go to these plains. Ah, the plains, now that he remember, he had been there once... got in a fight with some man he barely knew. It was an interesting fight to say the least. But that was all in the past and now was the present and they were headed to the Debon Plains, looking for a new fight. Kain kept his grip and followed the man closely, expecting Sekuda to follow along as well.
((OOC: You can make the next post in the Debon Plains if you want... very interesting twist, i like it))
