Title: Sparring...Or Something To That Effect <p>
Description: Shain Volgornd
Kain Dunarrow - January 17, 2006 08:30 PM (GMT)
It had been a day since Kain's meeting in the library and Kain stood in the middle of the Arena awaiting the arrival of Shain. Kain grew impatient as time past, he remembered back to when they were in the library and he realized that they hadn't set a specific time that they were meant to meet. This was just great... Kain had aready sat down and closed his eyes, drinking in his environment.
There was a slight fragrance of blood and soon a wind picked it up and carried it away. Kain ignored the thought of fighting warriors and the death of one of them as he concentrated on the upcoming battle. Kain was waiting there, sitting in the middle of the arena. He smiled, He'll be here soon Kain assured himself He won't back down from a challenge or at least, I wouldn't
Shain Volgornd - January 18, 2006 02:08 AM (GMT)
Walking into the arena, Shain paused to observe the size. It was pretty big, to put it bluntly. Cloak still tight around him, he sighed at the heat. There was no way that he could fight in this. Walking the rest of the way into the arena. He spotted kain basking in the sun, or so it seemed.
"Already tired and we havent even started. Where are the quater staffs?" he asked. Making his final decision, Shain unfastened his cloak and let it drop to the ground. Gray skin and tappered ears exposed, his white eyes shone in the sun.
Kain Dunarrow - January 18, 2006 02:16 AM (GMT)
Kain stared at Shain with his mouth slightly gaped open as the cloak dropped to the ground. He had never seen Shain like this. His skin was a grey and his eyes seemed different. Oh well, that meant nothing. Kain smirked, "I figured I'd give hand to hand combat a test first."
Kain twisted off the ground and rushed at Shain. Kain didn't know who Shain was or what Shain was but he knew that they were here to spar. Kain thrust his fist directly at Shain's face. This was going to be fun.
Shain Volgornd - January 19, 2006 01:39 AM (GMT)
Shain saw the attack comming as if it were in slow motion. Quickly, dropped to the ground legs swinging toward Kains. Foolish human. The attack was too direct.
[(OOC): In a spar, can replies be short?]
Kain Dunarrow - January 19, 2006 01:48 AM (GMT)
((OOC: Doesn't bother me!! :P ))
Kain watched as Shain dropped to the ground and swing at his legs. Kain smiled as Shains legs hit his own. He staggered sideways but did not fall. Kain smiled, "I had already braced myself..." Kain jumped over Shain and as he did, he kicked backwards at Shain's back.
Shain Volgornd - January 19, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
As Shain hit Kain's legs, he let his momentum carry him into a roll. He felt kains foot scrape the upper part of his back. Springing up, he turned to face Kain. "Your first move was too straight forward, human. And your last was a little cheap, aimming for somones back." He smirked. "I like the that."
Shains hand flashed to his dagger, but threw it to the side as a diversion. He launched himself at Kain, acting as if he would strike at the legs again, but switching at the last moment, he aimed toward the stomach with a flat hand, fingers ready to drive into Kain's belly.
Kain Dunarrow - January 19, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
Kain smirked as Shain's palm went through the air; Kain had ran to the side just before Shain's approach. "For someone who talks about straight forward attacks," Kain said as he dropped to his knee and swept at Shain's feet.
Kain liked this battle, he enjoyed the adrenaline, the rush. It was what kept him alive. As his foot slid at Shain's leg, he noticed something at the top of the areana... he stopped his trip middway and fell over.
"Shain, what the heck is that," Kain said pointing up to the top of the arena...
((OOC: Showtime!! :D ))
Shain Volgornd - January 19, 2006 02:27 AM (GMT)
Shain looked up to where Kain had looked. "Nine Hells!" he growled. "DROW." He yelled at Kain. "Get me a quarter staff! I cant fight this in the open with only my dagger." With that, Shain leaped up and prepared to rush for the dagger. Until he saw a faint shimmer leave the form. He changede his direction in a heart beat, tackling Kain as the tiny crossbow dart brushed through his hair. "At least it is inexperienced to come out in the daytime," he muttered.
Kain Dunarrow - January 19, 2006 02:32 AM (GMT)
Kain smirked and reached into the sand and pulled up a hidden Quarterstaff. He tossed it to Shain. Kain drew his katana and thought about something for a moment, "Shain, are these guys after you, if so, it'd be my pleasure to end them..."
One of the Hells laughed at this, "Good try human, you cannot kill me." kain had already made his way up the stands to the top. A quick strike with his leg would knock the first off the edge and a sword stroke, cleanly across the neck would kill a second, "These guys aren't very experienced and you need to get your butt up here!!"
Shain Volgornd - January 20, 2006 01:46 AM (GMT)
Shain snatched the staff out of the air. He twirled it experimentaly, getting the feel of it. Sheathing his dagger at his side, he looked at Kain. There was no way he could hide it now. "These drow hate me for what I am. I am an abomination in their eyes." Rushing up to join Kain, he stopped Short of the drow.
"Who sent you this time? Who did you fear so much that you forsook the Underdark to seek my head?" The drow, one of two, smirked. "The preistess' damand you , saying that Lolth wants you as a sacrifice. You should know this you half-blood scum. Your mother has already been givenh to Lolyth for her crimes of meddling with the surface elves." Shain's eyes widend. If they had his mother, then what of his father.
"You shall pay, you and your demon spauned goddess," he growled. Focussing on the Long sword and dirk that the one clossest had he loosened the energy. Suddenly it was enveloped in a heatless, purple/blue fire. In the instant that the drow was supprised he attacked, Quarter staff whirlling. Calling back over his shoulder he said "Watch out for the darkness. Stay out of it. Their eyes are weak in light. try to pull their hoods down Kain.
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
Kain obeyed, but not instantly, he was to avoid the darkness, so Shain had said. He slid down a couple of steps than climbed back up, behind one of them... who was just out of reach in the orb of darkness. "Peekaboo" Kain said as he thrust two fingers in the drow's eyes. Kain felt triumphant as he threw the drow off the edge of the coliseum by his cloak...
Kain backed away and called to Shain, "I can't see anymore, the darkness is to thick... you'll have to do something..."
Kain felt helpless, he stood back and just watched the orb, waiting for a response.
Shain Volgornd - January 20, 2006 02:23 AM (GMT)
Shain heard, but was enrapped in a blind battle dictated by listning to the whirlling of weapons and sharp reflexes. Taking a chance, he dropped to hi knees and swung up, smilling as he heard a gasp and thump. reaching downto where the drow was laying, Shain grabbed at the cloth the second he found it. Dragging the elf through the globe, blinked as His eyes hit sunlight. He had been fight only a pace from the edge.
Looking for Kain he called. "Over hear. Bring the other drow. he cannot be dead; his globe is still up. Turnning and looking at the unconsious elf at his feat, he grimaced. He wanted questions answered.
Kain Dunarrow - January 20, 2006 02:29 AM (GMT)
Kain nodded and did as he was told, grabbing the body of a nearby drow and brought it to Shain, "Aren't there more?" Kain asked looking at the bodies. He only counted four dead. "There were more... I swear it..."
Kain was getting confused and wanted answers, but as long as there were these drow around, Kain focused on his foe first, then he focused on his questions.
Shain Volgornd - January 22, 2006 02:21 AM (GMT)
Shain scowled at the unconsious figure in fron of him. It took all of his self control not to slit the drow's throaght. Smacking the dark elf untill it regained consiousnees, Shain hauled it up to face level. "Why will Lolth's clerics not let me be. I have no wish, or right by drow standings, to worship her. I cannot change what I am." The drow attemped to laugh, but ended up hacking. "You are an abomination. Segene Shlaylornd has payed her price for her affairs whith the moon elves. Lolth decrees that her blood line must be eradicated."
Shain couldn't help it. He sunk his fist as hard as he could into the drow's gut. " What about my father? What about Linnyor Volhara? Has he been sacrifised yet?" "no," the drow wheezed. "We have yet to travel to Silvery Moon." Shain threw him down, and turned to find Kain behind him.
Kain Dunarrow - January 22, 2006 07:10 PM (GMT)
Kain, at this point, was royally confused and it was beginning to bug him. Why did these drow come from nowhere and attack Shain. He dared not ask, yet... he would but first he would just watch for others, and make sure that there weren't any drow left. If there were, he shifted his blade to point straight out, they would die by his hand. He smiled at the thought.
Kain decided that his curiousity was getting the best of him so he would go ahead and ask Shain, seeing as at this point there weren't any drow in the area, that he could see, "So, why are these drow after you?"
Shain Volgornd - January 23, 2006 02:05 AM (GMT)
Shain sighed. He knew that this would come up sooner or later. "Siat down, this might take a while." Shain said , sitting down himself. "About one hundred, fifty-five years ago, a drow raiding party came up too the surface from the Underdark. A preistess of house Shlaylornd was separated from the group. Unable to find her way back to the underdark, she wandered in hiding. She was found by a moon elf by the name of Linnyor Volhara found her and fell in love, even though she was drow. As it turns out, she returned the feeling."
"Linnyor was able to sneak his drow lover into the gates of Silvery moon, the great city of the moon elves. There, he aranged a marriage and was wed to Segene, the preistess. I was their offspring." Shain scowled. Memorys of that city, the jeers he receved in the streats, the attempts on his life when he was not yet twenty assaulted him. He shook his head and continiued. "Word got out about my fathers wife, and it was no longer safe for her to stay. She left when i was but seventeen. My father shunned me from the house when I turned fifty, he could not bare the sight of my face."
"As it turns out, my mother was betrayed to the drow by their goddess Lolth, the Spider Queen, and i as well. I have been hunted most of my life. I am an abomination in her eyes, and the eyes of the drow. They hunt me so that I may be sacrifised to her in repayment of my mothers sins." Shain scowled at the unconsious drow. "It turns out that her death was not enough." He looked at Kain, waiting for a response as his story sank in.
Kain Dunarrow - January 24, 2006 10:18 PM (GMT)
"So these guys... they're part of this clan?" Kain asked while sitting down at the same time, listening to the story. He was facinated, this elf/drow lore was exciting him for some reason; like a faerie tale, but a real one, that he was in. Perhaps he would be written about as a part of this finatical story that he suddenly was wrapped up in. Kain shook the though off and waited for Shain's response. As he did, he remembered the globe of darkness that had been cast.
Magic had always confused him, he wasn't sure how it worked, just that he could perform it. He knew there were other spells, but the only spell he knew at this point was the Faerie fyre, which, was on a scroll that he was not meant to read when he was younger. He would have to look up some spells, perhaps some that could give him an edge in a battle. Not to mention the fact that all this fighting he had done recently had improved his combat skills, the fight with the drow, the fight with Ethstar, even the battle that he had gotten into with a Slith. And the shapeshifter at the mountains. Yes, it was a lot of training for him, improving Kain's skills were the most important thing to him right now... he continued to wait for Shain's reply.
Shain Volgornd - January 25, 2006 01:59 AM (GMT)
Shain sighed. This was a long day so far. "No. With the drow, there are houses, not clans. I do not know what house they are from They are probably from Menzoberanzan, the supposedly greatest drow city in the Underdark. The reason they could have been from any house is because of Lolth's favor." Once again, Shain found himself stuck in his past. One dream of the Spider Queen, an actual visit she had payed him. He shook his head to clear away the thoughts.
"Drow houses clamor for the favor of their goddess. All in all, it is they want to kill me so that their goddess will grant them power, allowing them to climb further up the heirarchy." Shain chuckled grimly. The drow werepsychotic, or at least on the edge of being so. "What ever house has killed my mother has doubtlessly gained lolth's favor, and is now a much greater house." He looked at the globe of darkness while reveiwing what he had said and found it fading. The drow must be out cold.
"I am truly sorry for bringing you into this, though I appriciate your help. Is there anything else that I can explain for you?" Shain asked. He owed Kain that much for the help in battle.
Kain Dunarrow - January 25, 2006 02:18 AM (GMT)
Kain listened to Shain as he made his explaination. When the question arose, Kain answered with a simple, "Nope... I think that covers it..." Kain sheathed his sword in it's scabbard turning around towards the exit of the coliseum. He wondered what else was going to happen. Kain swirved back around to Shain, "However, I would like to know if there is anything more I can do?"
Kain felt obligated to help Shain in this matter, for they had attacked him for no apparent reason and from Shain's story, Shain had done nothing wrong. So, therefore, if they attack an innocent man, they'll get a fight from two in return. Kain planned on helping Shain in all ways that he possibly could. And one of the ways that he would help is by killing, which was Kain's favorite job... killing...
He smiled, it was what he enjoyed, what he was best at, and what he did all to often. Well, to him, not often enough. And if fighting these drow meant more blood for the bloodthirsty, then Kain was willing to sacrifice all to get it.
Shain Volgornd - January 25, 2006 02:44 AM (GMT)
Sahin smiled at Kain's comment. "Not at this moment ... unless you want to help me slit their throaghts. It may seem harsh to you, but this is not the first, nor the twenty first time they have come after me. I'm getting rather sick of it." Pulling out his dagger he appraoched the first one. Staring at his face he scowled. Why him. It was not as if he did not like killing, he made his job doing. But he did not feel an amazing thrill every time he did it.
Looking at Kain again, he grimaced and said, "Hope you don't mind blood." With that, he set his dagger to the throaght and ripped it through the drow's jugular, carving a bloody grin from ear to ear.
Kain Dunarrow - January 25, 2006 09:06 PM (GMT)
Kain was not offended by blood but however, he decided to sit this one out. This was sort of a grudge act in which Kain would not participate in, he had no rightful grudge against these drow. The only reason he had fought was to save his own skin and that of Shain's. He watched as the first throat was slit, and then another, next and next until the dirty task had been done.
He nodded, wondering what they were to do next... Kain really wasn't in the mood for more fighting, he had exhulirated himself in the match with the drow. What he wanted was a place where he could think about current events that had taken place. He just sat where he was, staring at the dust as it rolled across the coliseum... following it's master, the wind...
Shain Volgornd - January 26, 2006 02:30 AM (GMT)
Shain slit the last thraot and looked down at his hands. They were grimy' saoked in blood. He scowled at them and wiped them on the ground, picking up a hand full of dirt to rub it off. Dusting off the soil, Shain straightened up and looked around. The sun was a little past noon, probably one or two hours. Popping his knuckles, he sat down across from Kain. He had had his fight today. Not the one he expected, but he had "practiced" plenty. Leaning over, Shain whiped his dagger on the tunic of one of the drow's carcasses. Sheathing it , looked at kain and asked,"Is there anything more I can do for you; I'm too tired to fight anymore. Could I buy you a drink?"
Shain hoped that Kain was fine. He had felt he was on the verge of making a friend, something he had never had before. While waiting for a reply, he obsereved the drows' clothing. too bad they did not have their piwafwi, magicall claoks that helped to conceal the whearer. Oh well. He turned back to Kain.
Kain Dunarrow - January 26, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
Kain looked up as Shain completed his task of finishing off all the drow. As Shain spoke, Kain seemed to ignore him at first, keeping his full attention on the sand that blew around in the arena. But as he focus on Shain's words he began to realized that he existed. Kain didn't want a drink and he said so, "No drinks..." He did however want to go somewhere else, perhaps off somewhere outside of Taras. He stood up and stretched, almost yawning as he did so, but he managed to retain the yawn within him. He took a deep breath and sighed, "However, going to the Tavern probably wouldn't be to bad..."
Kain picked up what stuff he had and looked back at Shain as he walked towards the exit of the arena, "You coming?" The question would be rhetorical, for Kain knew the answer would most likely be yes and he would not hear the answer for he was already in the "lobby" area of the coliseum. He would continue to walk, glancing around at several pieces of artwork that stood. Today had proven to be a success...
Shain Volgornd - January 27, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
Shain watched him go. He hadn't been to the tavern before. Walking down into the combat area, Shain strolled over to where he had dropped his cloak. Picking it up and shaking the dust off, he reflected on when this had started, an hour or two ago, give or take. He had sparred for a relatively short time when the blasted drow had come. Fastening his cloak, he pulled the cowl up over his face and began to leave the stadium. He had... a new aquantance at the very least. At the most, Shain may have made his first friend. Stopping outside, he asked directions to the tavern.
Kain Dunarrow - January 29, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
Kain glanced back at Shain as he asked for directions. Kain waved his hand at Shain, and then pointed off in a direction. "No need for that, I can smell it... it's that way." Kain smirked and waited for Shain to follow him as he turned, walking in the direction of the way that he pointed to. He put his hands behind his head and leaned his head in them as he walked along the stone path. His sandles scraped the hard stone as he walked and he they began to get on his nerves, however, he tried his best to ignore the sound as he continued along his way.
The smell of dirt and sand from the arena had began to leave him. He glanced back to see if Shain was still there; he had walked quite a ways without even realizing it. His eyes scanned over the scenery...
Shain Volgornd - January 29, 2006 02:22 AM (GMT)
Sahin caught up with Kain. He like this guy. "Sooo, where are we heade?" he asked looking aroun. He brought alot of stares as his hood ws up in broad daylight. They didn't matter. He looked back to Kain for an answer.
