Title: Old friends..
Description: Old books..
Kli_Of_Lorian - December 16, 2005 11:56 PM (GMT)
Soft steps echoed throughout the large library as a small figure walked softly through the door. A smile appeared across her face as her blue-ish grey eyes wandered around the room. Her hands collected dust as her hand brushed against the edge of the librarian's desk. Her thoughts took her back to when she was a librarian before and her smile became more noticeable. She took off her cloak which seemed to be very old, revealing a simple blue dress and some muddy old boots. She walked over to a table, setting her cloak on the back of a chair. Her cury red and black hair was down, cascading across her shoulders. Unlike in previous times, she wasn't covered in dirt, she was no longer bloody or starving, she seemed like a normal woman. "Beatiful friends.." She said softly to herself, hardly audible to the human ear. She closed her eyes, breathing in the familiar scent as she gave one great spun in pure happiness. This was home, this was where she needed to be..
She stopped, opening her eyes before running through the long files of bookcases that were filled with all the books you could imagine. "Wow.." She whispered, climbing up the familiar ladder as she saw a book that she loved. She took it out and sat on the ladder. She opened it up. Hello my old friend.. She thought, flipping through the pages to find beautiful sketches of buildings and places that used to or still were in Imythess. She held it to her bosom as she climbed down, careful not to fall. When she got down, she thought she was safe, but as she was walking from the ladder, her dress got caught on the ladder and it fell over onto her. "Ow.." She mumbled. Though she was different, she was still clumsy Kli.
Ethstar Solther - December 17, 2005 09:48 PM (GMT)
Ethstar silently walked through the crowded streets of the town, avoiding any type of gaze thrown at his figure. His booted feet made soft, barely hearable sounds as he moved upon the stone road, each step calmly and firmly placed in front of the other. He stood at about six feet tall, a little above the average for most humans it seemed. A cloak covered the majority of his body from the neck down, only ending directly over the ankles of his feet. The black cloth brushed against the leather of his cloak, threatening to tangle between his two feet. He let out a low sigh, trying to ignore the slight annoyance. His eyes were wide and innocent, the color of the orbs being an extremely faded blue. Black hair fell from his held in silky bangs, partly obscuring the eyes from view. Underneath the cloak, wings were folded in hiding, a few bandages wrapped around the majestic feathers.
He was uncomfortable within this place. His mind did not recgonize any of the buildings, as neither did his eyes. Weapon shops, items, armors, mere articles of clothing... the town he wandered in seemed to contain everything. His travels from the swamp had eventually led him to this, even though it had taken him quite a while. He had lived off of the wild food and fresh water he could find, providing him with meager satisfaction for his growling stomach. Wild mushrooms had been his favorite dish while out in the wild, but he figured he could now treat himself to what the humans considered "real" food. Problem was, he couldn't find any resturants. The people within the Celestial plane had been genrous with their food, welcoming him into their houses with open arms when he had managed to wander near them. The food had been wonderful, cooked with magical flames. Was that how the humans prepared their delicacies?
Letting out another sigh, he stopped in his tracks, the moving crowd surging past him. Shoulders and legs bumped against him, yet he did not move, merely stood firm. His eyes searched out the buildings, looking for anything that he would possibly regconize. The first suprise he had been in for when he had entered this town had been the streets. They were made of stone, not gold. The buildings were made of wood and stone, seemingly abundant materials in this plane. He had certianly traveled his fair share of forests, and seen a good amount of forests. It was amazing really. The humans plane was amazing.
With one last desperate glance, his eyes finally fell upon a familar picture. Books. His face lit up in a childlike innocence, and he immediately headed for the building. The gigantic building. Perhaps research would clue him in on some of the things that went about this city. And maybe he could find a seller of this "good food" he had heard so much about. A farmer he had ran into had actually told him of that term. He had nodded politely, and made a mental note to be sure and check it out.
He stepped up to the wooden door, and quietly pushed it open. A small bell attached to the top rung out loudly, suprising him for a brief moment, eyes widening in the emotion. He quickly slid in though, and closed the door firmly behind him, initiating another ring from the little object. Taking in the place, he sighed in satisfaction. Books upon books. And only one person. A girl it seemed. He took in her features, trying to commit them to memory. He tried to commit everything to memory, adding to his knowledge of this new world. There was a desk, yet no one behind it. Perhaps the one that should be behind the desk was out for lunch?
He moved toward the lady, coming up behind her to utter one word. "Hello." The first thing noticable about him was the inhuman beauty that surrounded him. He was painstakingly handsome, transending normal human means by tenfold. His voice rung out in a melody, completely soothing to the ear. It was no mistake, no magic. The voice was simply awestriking. Being able to sense good or evil, her tattoo would provide her with interesting knowledge. As of yet, he was basically both. Evil rested within his soul, yet good was broadly displayed as well. His soul was completly ripped in two directions. He would simply stand, waiting for an answer.

Kli's eyes cautiously looked up to the unfamiliar voice, her thoughts racing back through all the people she had met. She saw Ethstar before looking back down to the ladder that had landed on her. She pushed it off, leaning it against the row of bookshelves that it had been against before she had knocked it over onto her. She shuffled to her feet, brushing herself off. "Hello.." She said in a soft voice, embarrased at the fact that he had to meet her at such a clumsy time. She looked down at her favorite book, it's pages bent from the fall. She sighed softly, frowning a little as she picked up the book and tried to bend the pages right back to where it used to be. She sighed, seeing it wasn't helping, and gave up. Kli shut the book, not caring that she slammed it a little too hard and echoes went all through the library. She held the book to her chest, avoiding eye contact with the stranger as she tried to slip past him. She walked to the table, putting the book down and taking a seat where her cloak was draped over the back of the chair.
"May I help you find a book to your liking sir?" She asked, her voice gentle but carrying as she looked up slowly. Even though it wasn't her job to play librarian, she still had a habit of trying to help people find the right thing they are looking for. As she waited, her fingers traced the pages of the book on the table and she crossed her ankles underneath her chair. "I know this library well enough.." She said before looking down to her book and flipping through the book idlely. Her hair was now messy from the fall, strands sticking out and falling where they don't belong, as well as her dress slightly disheveled. "I'm sure if you tell me what you are looking for I can find the book you're looking for.." She said simply, stopping at a world map and staring at it silently.
Ethstar Solther - December 17, 2005 11:51 PM (GMT)
A small smile played at the corner of his lips as he watched her bustle about, seemingly disheveled by her clumsiness. He would have assisted with the ladder out of politeness, but it had truly slipped his mind. He needed to watch his manners in this world. Bows and salutes were something, but honest care and concern would obviously be needed as well. Outside, he had noticed this. Shopkeepers with smiles lighting their faces had been more welcome then the sour-looking ones. Women with bright laughs and beaming faces were more gazed at then the angry looking ones. Perhaps this world did not judge beauty by appearance, but by what lie on the inside. A bitter thought twisted in his mind, causing his face to twitch slightly. This world did not know the beauty of that skill. They truly did not think about it, or so he gathered.
He would let his eyes scan the many bindings that held together many a book, slim fingers coming from beneath the cloak to gently touch a bright blue one. The label spoke of something he actually knew, that subject being magic. He smiled to himself briefly, until yet another bitter strand rose within his mind. They had actually stripped him of all his magics. He hadn't known, he hadn't been able to stop them. He had awakened before they could do much else, but he had lost a powerful part of his being. Never again he had promised. Never again.
He sighed and turned from the books, his posture straight and firm. Back straight, chin held high, innocent eyes calmly gazing at her. He didn't quite answer her question just yet, instead, he replied with a sincere apoligy. "I apoligize, m'lady. I should have helped you with that ladder. I just am somewhat up in the clouds today." His mind briefly flitted to the irony of the statement. The irony was probably only something his mind would think up. He was truly getting paraniod over this whole business. But it was a part of his life he could never leave behind. Perhaps one day the wound would close over, yes. But the scar would always remain, there for anyone to find if they simply looked close enough.
After softly speaking the apoligy, he hurriedly moved on, voice pausing only a moment after speaking his original words. He wasn't so sure which would be ruder, interuppting with his own words before she could answer his apoligy, or not answering her question. So he went with a random choice, hoping it wouldn't come off as intentionally flippant. His voice came out somewhat worried, somewhat reserved in tone. Like a shy girl, if one was to compare it. "I am looking for..." How to word it? He was looking for books on humans? "I am looking for a book on... This town. I am new to this area."
Kli_Of_Lorian - December 18, 2005 12:47 AM (GMT)
"First things first.." She said, trying to block stray thoughts that had wandered into her mind that she didn't want to intrude on. "You need not apologize for not helping, I've able to take care of myself for quite some time.." She said, giving a small smile. "But, thank you for your kindness.." She looked off a little as she heard something she wasn't supposed to hear. Maybe she was completely crazy, but she heard, in her mind, the words 'books on humans?'. She was silent, listening to the stranger finish his question. She said nothing for a long while, closing her eyes and facing her face towards her book as she tried to clear her head. What is wrong with me? Am I really hearing thoughts, or am I going crazy? She thought before looking back up to him and staring slightly as she wondered if she had accidentally red part of his thoughts. Her father had that ability, but she never thought that she would develop it, she thought she would have to be more advanced in her magic to earn it.
"Oh, yes... If you're looking for information about this place, I have the book for you.." She said, closing the book she had been looking up and held it up towards him. "One of my favorites.." She said simply. "There is information on the races of the beings that live here as well, along with pictures.. I'm sorry about the pages.." She said softly, sighing and looking off. She was still a little embarrased on how she was so unlike her family in the way of gracefulness. "I'm not friends with gravity, or whatever you want to call it.." She looked up at him quietly, expecting him to take the book from her hand, though her mind still wandered to what had came into her mind when he had paused.
Ethstar Solther - December 18, 2005 05:03 PM (GMT)
He himself paused for a second as she took on a small look of confused thoughtfulness, his eyes imploring her to tell him what she was thinking. Perhpas he just wanted to know what ran through the thoughts of these people, if their were anything like the Celestial beings he had once known. The first encounter with what he actually considered a human had been interesting. The man had tried to kill him, tried to gore him through with a mere dagger. That hadn't lasted long. Ethstar had disposed of him quite quickly. None must know the secret. He was somewhat sorry he had to have killed the man, but then again, he might have had to anyway. The man had threatened him, and all in all, Ethstar's killing could have very well been considered an act of defense. For a moment, the eyes flashed with some kind of intensity, but then the emotion died back down to the innocence.
He slowly reached out, moving hesitantly at first. For a moment, his mind bordered on any act of harm she could do to him. But shoving the thoughts to the back of his mind, his fingers finally closed around the book. He WAS getting paranoid. He laughed softly to himself, and cracked open the book, handling it with gentle fingers. The page he turned to had something to do with the general landscape, some type of map. He stood there for a moment, his eyes gazing at the pages with rapt attention, his face easing into a look of enjoyment.
After a moment, he snapped out of it, glancing away from the book to take in the lady once more. "Thank you very much, m'lady. May I have a seat?" He nodded toward the chair across from her, then glanced down back at the book, obviously quite interested in the things the pages had to say. This land he was on was quite interesting. What were the big blue splotches everywhere? Maps of the Celestial plane hadn't been written out like this. Multiple colors, consisting of blue, brown, green and yellow assulted his eyes, making his mind spin in puzzlement. He briefly considered asking her for help, but that would probably arouse her supspicions, if the original question hadn't.
Kli_Of_Lorian - December 18, 2005 10:14 PM (GMT)
"Lady I am no longer.." She said in a soft voice, but giving a smile to him anyway. "But you may sit down here if you don't mind me looking over your shoulder.. As I've said before, it is my favorite and I haven't been able to read even a mere word for quite some time.." She said as she folded her hands and set them on her lap with an idle nature. "And, you are welcome all the same, it is my duty to do what will help strangers as well as friends unless they betray what trust I have.." She replied, her voice so simple as if in her head the words were just a faint thought that was wrapped deep into her mind. She didn't seem to care that he acted paranoid, or that flash of emotion that he had once had in the presence of his own eyes. She looked to the book, going back to all the places she had seen and having them flash before her eyes as she thought of the memories that had happened.
"May I ask you something that may make you think I am either completely nuts or make you run from me in utter terror?" She asked, her voice soft as if she was testing the water of a freezing cold lake before having to jump into it. She stared a while, her blue grey eyes a wondering mass of color before her pupils dialated a little and she could see flashes of images going through her mind. She closed her eyes, shaking away the images and looking off into a random area to keep her mind from focusing on the past, future, and anything that came up in the thoughts of the stranger. To her, it was not right to know his secrets or past unless he aloud her to. But lately, her powers were starting to go slightly haywire and were shooting off at random times. She was lucky that it only pertained to the mental powers instead of the physical, because she didn't want to hurt anyone by unconsciously levitating a book into someone's head. She wrung out her hands, closing her blue grey orbs and trying to relax herself. "In the last half hour, did you think of something along the lines of 'books on humans'?" She asked cautiously. She didn't want to read his mind, but she also didn't want to be considered completely insane. There was so much to learn and control now a days..
Ethstar Solther - December 19, 2005 01:13 AM (GMT)
He simply stood there for a few more moments, his eyes fixed calmly upon her own bright orbs. He gave a brief nod to accompany her words, as if automatically agreeing with her. "Yes,I understand, ma'am." He gave a short bow, bending down then snapping up in the crisp motion. A smile was offered in return, his eyes dancing with boyishness. "I apoligize if any insult was made, for I can assure you none was intended."
Ethstar moved forward with smooth, graceful movements, each step resembling some sort of move that would lie within a ballroom dance. Every small step flowing into the other, making each movement seem as a work of art. Quiet footsteps led him to the other side of the table, were he pulled back a chair and started to sit down. He was still marveling at the size of this library. He had been inclined to believe that humans had nothing comparable to the marvels he had experienced in his home. But this collection of books was simply wondrous, astounding him with the mere number of the major collection. His eyes scanned the pages of the book while he pulled back the seat, studying the map with greater attention this time. He was starting to think he understood it. The patches of brown and green represented land and forest, which the humans had done since the colors basically matched. Or so it seemed. He would have a time figuring out which town he was in though.
Yet her question caught his attention. As she spoke her mind, his head snapped up, his handsome face suddenly draining to a pale white. His eyes widened in complete surprise, the face revealing his emotions before he managed to slap a staggered void of a face into place. Eyes and color returning to normal, he swallowed, and finally spoke. "You must be mistaken. Why would I want a book on my own race?" He let out a forced laugh, the sound being completely fake. Perhaps she wouldn't notice though, or wouldn't try to pry any longer. He couldn't let anyone know of his true identity. It was too dangerous, word may spread. And if the humans spread the news, then surely the Celestials would notice. They could not find him. Not yet. Not until he could kill them.
He threw on a smile, trying his best to make it look convincing. "why do you think you heard something like that?" The smile remained fixed on his face as he slid into the chair, almost completely regaining his calm composure. He idly flipped one of the old pages of the book, his eyes fixed firmly upon her face, the interesting look of intensity starting to slowly return.
Kli_Of_Lorian - December 19, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
"You give no insult, sir, it's just an old habit of mine that you couldn't have known about.." She said simply, not able to give a smile as she watched him bow. Her mind wandered back to when she was a child, a mere child having to meet suitors five to seven years older than her and only wanting to marry because of the money and nobleity they would receive. She remembered how they would bow, as if they actually respected her, in front of her father and relatives. The only thing was that when she was alone with them, they would act snotty and stuck up as well as cursing at her. She snapped from her thought, looking back at him and hearing his words. "But.." She said, her voice in almost a whisper. Her eyes wandered off towards the book. "I heard the voice in my head.. A stray thought from someone or something.. I know I did not think it.." She whispered, getting up from her seat and walking towards the book shelves. "If it wasn't you.." She said softly, turning around to look at him quietly. "Then you must think I am insane, someone who should be locked up.."
She turned back to the books, climbing up the ladder to find the book she was looking for a certain book. "I am sorry if my question makes you think I am not in my right mind, it was most likely some random thought that was in my subconcious.." She whispered, though it seemed louder because of the echoes that went about the room. Her fingers danced along the books before stopping and picking up a small book that was titled 'Telepathy'. She held it close to her bosom, stepping down the ladder carefully and looking over at him. She hated the thought that she could be going crazy, or that someone might think of her that way. "I am also sorry if it startled you, I will leave you to your book.." She said before shuffling quickly to the other side of the room and sitting down on the floor, this time without falling. She opened the book, starting to read to herself softly so it was almost inaudible.
Ethstar Solther - December 19, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
Ethstar watched with a somewhat confused expression on his face as she led herself away, hoping that he trul hadn't insulted her. People in his realm had just smiled and then acted strange if you insulted them. There was never really true acknowledgement of the insult, only hidden anger or embarrassment that built up into grudges. Perhpas that was the way the human were? Hiding their emotions from view so no one else could find out their deepest thoughts? He shook his head slightly, trying to make sense of the swirling ideas and notions contained within his head. Only a few days on this place, and already he had learned so much. What else could these people teach him, and suprise him with.
Once again, his thoughts wandered. As he stared at the pages of the map, he simply wondered, his interest with the book lost once more. She HAD read his thoughts. Or somehow picked them up, with seemingly no choice of her own. As if the powers were working without her will. But in the end, it had led to him lying to a completely innocent person. He sighed deeply to himself, watching her read the book with a small hint of sadness in his eyes. Guilt ran throughout the crevices of his mind, but he had to shove it aside. His true race was dangerous, both to him, and to her. He was almost certian she would be held accountable for aiding an fallen if she knew about him. She would be punished for that. And the other option he could think of was the fact that she would try and turn him in.
He could not let either happen. It was his fight, and his alone.
With another sigh, he let his gaze fall to the book, turning the page to see what else he could learn. The next was about... a town known as "Taras". He read slowly, silently, his mouth not moving in any motion. Apparently, the named town was one of great stature within the world. Great pictures of buildings, people, different races and ideals... and religions. His face deepened with interest as he noted the statement about "God's and Goddess's." Apparently, those were people of great stature, great power. One seemed to exist for about every element. No more was told, but he made a mental note to check out more about the beings later. Looking up, he finally snapped the book shut, and removed himself from his seat.
Slowly walking his way over to the lady, he bent down so he was at eye level with the lady, his cloak draping itself upon the ground. As if he remembered nothing of what she had said before, he spoke, a slight apoligetic tone to the words. "Can I treat you to some good food? At a local tavern, or resturant?" He smiled, a geniune smile that seemed to light his face. He could at least try to repay her kindness, and make up for his lie. "You choose, and my treat."
Kli_Of_Lorian - December 19, 2005 06:25 PM (GMT)
She twitched slightly after a while, halfway through the book already, when she heard him get up and walk over. She stiffened slightly trying to hide the words of the book from his view so he wouldn't know what she was reading about. She didn't wish him to know that she could be telepathic, or he would probably be afraid and run from her. She didn't want him to think she was going to read his thoughts for fun when he wasn't expecting it. She closed the book quickly as he neared, holding it to her chest and hiding the title as she tried to look inconspicuous. She listened to his question, her face plastered with confusion as she cautiously looked up to him. She never did fully trust strangers, it took her a while to get to know them before she could trust them. She stared at him quietly, studying his face to see if he was serious. She gave him a look over before looking off in deep thought. "You hardly know me, sir, why would you ask of me to join with you in eating? That is what you would do with friends, and I wouldn't want to be a burden on you anyway.." She said simply before putting a hand on the wall to support her as she slowly stood up.
"Look, I thank you for your kindness, sir, but I do not need you to treat me to anything. If you wish to have a guide about the city, or if you wish to eat with me without you paying for my share, I will happily accept though.." She said simply, giving a faint smile to be polite. She didn't want to sound cross or impolite to a complete stranger, or set him off by acting mean. She walked to the bookshelf, climbing up the ladder and putting the book back so she wouldn't have to hide it so obviously before climbing down again. She looked back at him, looking for a reply as she stood about ten feet from him. Her thin, small fingers intertwined, lazily hanging down as she shifted her weight from one foot to another. Her boots were more obvious now, jutting from her light blue dress and looking very odd.
Ethstar Solther - December 19, 2005 08:09 PM (GMT)
Once again, confusion lit his features as she answered his question. He stood straight, and glanced down at the book, aching to open the pages and find something on what he was supposed to do in situations such as this. He repeated her words, having learned something that was extremely important. "Eat with friends." He let the foreign words linger over his tongue, testing them out in his mind. It seemed that it was strange to ask people you had just met to an event. In the Celestial plane, or on his part, it was somewhat of a formal affair. None of the events in the plane required money though, that was nonexistent. But he had seen people inviting others to duels, and strategic battle meetings. It was supposed to be extremely polite and honorable. He had learned that from his General. Usually, it had been other generals, or higher powers within the plane the general had invited, if it be that they are well-known are not. He quietly kept his eyes fixed on the cover of his book, studying it like he had never seen it before. He let his eyes linger for a bit longer, then let his arms fall to his sides, out of sight beneath the folds of the cloak.
"I... thought of it... as..." He searched for words. He really needed to avoid human contact until he figured out how to actually interact with the beings. "Well, see... in my section of... Imythess... It is considered a somewhat formal event. It is supposed to be an act of respect, or an honor." He let out a breath, reviewing the explanation in his mind. "Paying for another, that is." He blinked once, and continued on, sounding somewhat flustered and hurried. "And truthfully, I cannot find any place to eat." He looked back down at the book again, then walked toward her, long strides taking him to her in a matter of moments, where he held up the book to her, intending to let her shelve it.
He took another glance around, checking to see if the person that was supposed to be behind the desk had come back yet. Nothing displayed itself to him, so he turned his gaze back, wondering if the two of them were the only ones here. Was this library open at all times, even when the owners, or book-keepers weren't here?
Kli_Of_Lorian - December 19, 2005 11:27 PM (GMT)
"I'm so sorry if I have confused me.." She said softly. "Do you care to let me explain?" She asked, looking to him before walking past him and sitting in a chair not too far away from him. "It must be so strange to be in a new land that you haven't been in before.. New policies, honors, traditions.." She said, giving a polite smile. She placed her folded hands on her lap. "See, where I come from in Lorian.." She started, carefully placing her words. "If a strange young man asks a young woman to eat with her, it suggests as a man trying to.." She paused. "As a man inviting a woman to eat and offering to pay for her, people might think that he fancies her and no young woman should eat with a man without company with them and have it paid for unless the man is a relative of hers." She took a breath, looking off. "It seems you didn't know that though, so I will pass it off as a friendly, honorable gesture and make nothing more of what intentions it might place on it.." She said, looking back to him and giving a polite smile. She shifted slightly in her seat, leaning back ever so slightly but not loosing what she learned when she was once a true lady of Lorian.
She got up. "I will be happy to show you a place to eat.." She said kindly. "But, first I must ask because my curiosity is killing me.." She said, fiding around with her hands. "Where do you come from? I mean, I have yet to find a place where people didn't think too much of it.. Most places think it terrible to do anything that might suggest ideas that are not for a gentlemen to have.. Then again, most humans assume much too quickly for my liking and show no mercy.." She sighed softly, her eyes wandering off. "I hope you understand.."
Ethstar Solther - December 20, 2005 12:09 AM (GMT)
He turned and gazed at her back as she went to sit in the chair, telling him of the traditions of this place. Was this place the Lorian she spoke of? He assumed not, since she had stated "where I come from" He somewhat wished he could go back to the book and read it, and try to find some mention of this place he spoke of. He was really confused, and double-tasking by trying to act as a human as well. The first person he had met had easily found out his identity, while the two elves he had met hadn't really tried to ask. He had knew enough about elves anyway, and it made him seem like he was indeed a human, just as he said he was.
He also ached to ask what "fancies" meant. He was unfamilar with the term, for no one had ever said it to him before. As a matter of fact, he hadn't really encountered that many women before. In the Celestial plane, he had lived with his section of the army. No women had been in it, so he had rarely encountered any. The first true talk he had, well, actually had with one on this plane had been the girl he had first met. Right after he had arrived. She had been a sight to see, riding upon a gigantic horse, and dressed in armor... it was the very first warrior woman he had ever seen, for he had never encountered one of those. As he had entered this town though, he noted it wasn't very common. Most of the women were in dresses, such as this one.
As her question reached his ears, his smile slipped a bit, replaced by a more serious look on his handsome face. Of course she would ask, why wouldn't she? His customs must be strange indeed. But what could he tell her? I come from the Celestial plane. Didn't I tell you? I am an Angel. He shook his head. She would most likely think he was insane. "I... Where do I come from?" He paused a moment, thinking up an answer. "A... military camp?" His tone was slightly questioning, for he was wondering if this plane did indeed actually HAVE military camps. "Whenever one is invited to an event, such as a meal, it is usually from a general to a soldier, to perhaps promote him, or give him thanks. It means alot to a soldier to be treated to food by his commanding officer, and to be seen at the same table with him. Sometimes it is meant just to flaunt power or richness, but it was not indeed to you in that way, I can assure you. Simply a show of respect." He returned the smile to his face, trying not to look of feel as guilty as he was. "I understand, it is natural for you to be curious. I am just sorry I came off as... uh... "fancying" you."
Kli_Of_Lorian - December 20, 2005 10:36 PM (GMT)
Kli gave a small smile, stiffling a laugh. She now had an idea on why his traditions were so strange. "Ah, now I get it.." She said, nodding slightly before looking around. She stood up, looking at him once again. "Military camp..." She repeated, thinking to herself as she started to pace about the library. "They don't usually have many women around do they?" She asked, glancing at him wonderingly. "Which would explain.." She paused, stopping at a bookshelf. "Why you thought of it as a respecting offer.. You see, it's a completely different story when it comes to manly traditions.." She smiled softly, turning to the books and fingering them before finding a book called 'worldly traditions'. She walked over, handing him the book. "This should help let you understand a bit better than what my ramblings can help..." She said with a soft smile before taking her cloak from the chair that it had been on and starting to put it on. "See, when men invite other men to dinner, it is considered a respectible and honorable deed.. Men in higher ranks of their society may pay for their guests eating if another man is invited along with the women.. It must sound so complicated to you.." She said with a soft laugh.
"I'm guessing that you never learned this because when you are in military camp there is no reason to learn it.." She said simpy, holding the cloak closely to her. "Don't worry, though, I'm sure you'll fit in fine around here.. There are many different people in Imythess and you'll get used to different customs and traditions.." She said, picking up a bag she had brought in and putting it on her back. "If you are still hungry for food, I can still show you to a tavern I know about.." She said simply, waiting for an answer as she stood there quietly. She shifted uncomfortably, fidgeting slightly every once in a while.

Ethstar gave an absentminded nod as he looked down on the pages of the book, his fingers having opened it. He flicked through a few pages when she finished talking, trying to see if random scanning helped his mind any. He tapped his foot on the ground for a few seconds, making a small clicking noise that seemed to make a quick beat. After another moment, he snapped to attention, glancing back up at the lady and smiling. He swept into another bow, going a little lower and deeper, trying to make it graceful instead of businesslike. He straightened, hoping it would do. "No, there were not many women. I was raised in this camp since I was little." He spoke no more of it, not wanting to put himself deeper into the half lie. It was party true, he had been raised in a military setting. And he was young when he had first started.
He paused for a moment, his face flickering with happy grin as she spoke of men taking men to dinner. "Yes, exactly! That is how we do it there. I will keep in mind it is different for women." He let out a slight chuckle, a little more at ease now that she had spoke of something familar to his traditions. Suddenly, a thought struck his mind, and he glanced down at the cover of the book, voicing his mind. "Am I allowed to take this out of here?" he did another glance toward the table, wondering if anyone was there yet. No one. Why was it even there, if no one ever used it? He made a slight shrug and turned to her, answering her questions next, right before she would answer. It hadn't offended her before, so he hoped this time it would be no different.
"A tavern. Yes, that would be nice. I have been wanting to try this "good food" your people speak of." The 'your people' slipped through his tongue, and he nearly winced. That sounded somewhat suspicious. Perhaps she wouldn't notice, or think of it as if he was referring to her own people. He kept a smile on his face, fingering the book with the tips of his fingers, fiddling with it absentmindedly.
