The pounding of hooves filled Ahren's ears as he leaned low over the neck of his pegasus, staring intently in front of him. Ahren had been searching for a place where he could train with his familiar when the plains had come into view. With all the open ground he could wish for, it was an ideal place to build of the creatures stamina and speed. Dipping into his purse, he had bought a custom set of armor for the creature, one that would protect him in events to come. The pieces fitted together neatly, overlapping one another to protect every area. The wings protruded around the main piece that ran down the creatures back, and the side plates could be removed to make it easier for it to come off. Over all, he was fairly pleased with the result when he saw it. Having given the armorer free reign within the price limit he had set, the artist had done a good job of decorating the armor without making it appear frivolous. Sapphires gleamed along the edges of the faceplate and diamonds were set into the metal in a strict pattern from which the armorer had never deviated. Now, all Ahren had to do was get the pegasus used to wearing and running in it. The armor was light enough for him to fly in it, but Ahren would take it slow for now, building up to that point.
Looking off to the side, a figure arose from the tall grass, taking to the air. It could only be a gryphon from it's size, and apparently it had spotted them because it was giving chase. Well, if it wanted to try and make Ahren and his steed into it's next meal, it had bitten off more than it could chew. Patting the pegasus on the neck, he gave it the signal to stop. As it slowed, Ahren pulled his bow off of his back, swiftly checking the string for wear. Drawing an arrow from the quiver hanging from the saddle, Ahren continued to watch the gryphon, his eyes never leaving it. Setting the arrow into place, he drew back the string slowly, taking his time. With a sigh, Ahren released the arrow, turning away as he did. No doubt entered into his mind as to if the arrow would his the creature or not, the very air around him would ensure that the shot was true. Off to the side, there was an earsplitting shriek as the arrow entered the gryphon's skull. Glancing one last time at the great beast, he saw it lying in a crumpled heap on the ground, the arrow protruding from the middle of it's head. Turning his pegasus away, he resumed it's run, pushing the incident from his mind.
