Title: Heart's Desire
Description: The Hunt for a Heart
Stirling - September 15, 2005 09:28 AM (GMT)
Darkness settled over the city of Taras, enveloping all in inky blackness. The moon was clouded, along with the stars, so light was scarce. A few street lamps on the roads and watchfires on the walls were lit, bathing small orbs of area in the orange glow of fire. But in the whole, illumination was a futile attempt.
On the ocean wall stood a solitary guard, bored, sleepy and unalert. His particular area was full of uneventfulness, the position only being there to keep the nearest people happy. Nothing had ever occured at this spot for a hundred years. Tonight changed that. One moment the guard was standing, slumped in his armour. Next moment an arrow silently twanged from a bow, enlodgin itself into his throat.
As the human fell down into the sea, another creature accended the stone walls, easily finding craks in the worn materials. The black cloaked figure swung over the battlements quickly, swinging down the other side just as quick. Landing onto a slate roof noislessly, the creature sped off through the city, house roof to house roof, cloak trailing behing like smoke.
It did not take long for him to reach the library, the place of his desire. Leaping onto the cobblestoned street and landing on all fours, the black figure stood slowly. Walking up to the double oaken doors, his ash-grey didgets caressed the handle for a second, opening it in another.
Opening it without a creak and stepping inside, he turned around to shut the door. In the faint glow of a streetlamp, a hodded face was shown, gray skinned, black haired and red eyed, with a black scarf covering ose and mouth. Stirling had entered taras library, seeking his claim. The heart of a daughter of Lolth.

((Im asuming this is the topic we planned on.))
Konahomaru was assigned to the library on this particular night. Nothing ever hapened in this nech of the woods, for some odd reason he always got assigned to these places. He brushed it off. Let the weaklings handle the murderous freaks with spells that can kill an entire force.
The library was closed now, and Kona was walking past it. He noticed the door was slightly ajar. "Curious thing" he muttered to himself, as if that would ward off the loneliness. That he was used to. Many people decided not to be around him just becuase he was to holy for their presence. Kona thought it was ridiculous.
Silently he creeped up to the door and peered in. Looking around inside, he could barely see a thing. Kona squinted in the darkness, and stepped inside. He held up his hand, and some light started to concentrate at the end of it. It turned into a small beacon of light. Kona could see much better now. The light was just bright enough to expose the previously unseen, but not so bright that it would attract to much attention.

The black figure strode through the massive rows of bookshelves silently, looking from side to side at the dusty tomes. He stopped at one particularly large vloume, taking it down from it's high perch upon the shelf.
Setting the leavtherbound book onto the floor, he opened the old pages, a few falling out of thier bindings due to age. Flicking rapidly through them, the red eyes scanned each side, trying to find what he was looking for. It was somewhere in the middle where he stopped. On the dry and yellow parchment was a map, scrawled on centuaries ago by some scholar. Taking out his dagger, the creature removed the library map carefully from the tome.
Tucking it inside his cloak, he replaced the book on it's shelf, the fallen pages stuffed messily back into it. The figure started to head down the row again when he saw a small glimmer of light. It could have just been the moon reflecting off some shiny surface, but he couln't take that chance. Drawing hte dagger again, he crept slowly towards the light.
Nariwa Kona - September 16, 2005 02:36 PM (GMT)
Kona started to walk about, looking up and down the aisles. Something smelled foul to him, and he could detect just a hint of something evil. He couldnt quite put a nail on it though. Kona started to lose himself in thought, in the mechanical aout-pilot process of searching the premises. Many a time there were false alarms.
A librarion coming to get forgotten stuff, or somebody forgetting to close the doors were the most common solutions. Rarely anything truly evil surface in Taras. What if something actually evil did? Konahomaru knew about the armies forming in the mountains. He had heard it from a scout, that was sent to investigate rumors picked up from travellers. Nobody expected an evil presence in Taras just yet.
Then Kona heard some pages ruffle. It woke him from his aout-pilot, and quickly he looked around, the smal light flitting in his hand. He heard it down the aisle he was standing in front of. Kona increased the power of the light, and projected it down the aisle. A cloaked figure was walking towards him. Immediatly Kona took his free hand and drew his lightning blade. "Who are you! Do you realize that this area is off limits at night?"

The figure cursed inwardly for his mistake. Coming towards the light was foolhardy, and now he had been discovered. Several options presented themselves to him.
The first was to make a dash for him and attack, with either dagger or scimitar. But the guard had drawn a strong looking weapon, so it would be too risky. Another option was to draw his bow, take the Human down at a distance. But once again, by the time that he had readied the weapon, the guard would be close enough to atttack. The Burgler chose the last option, proving to be the safest.
He fled. Crawling swiftly upward via the cases, the blacked robed creature put some distance between himself and the Taras city guard. Reaching the dissying height of the top, he ran quickly along it.
Upon comming to the end, the burgler tensed his legs and jumped towards the second level balcony, cloak trailing behind. Landing a little clumsily, the creature set the pace off again, hoping to loose the guard up here. But ultimately, he needed to go down. Way down.
Nariwa Kona - September 19, 2005 09:40 PM (GMT)
Kona gave chase, and was just mere inches from grabbing the intruder when he jumped out a window and disapeared. Except, a jumped and fell up, sort of. "Interesting" Kona muttered, turning around and and moving quickly but silently to the stairs of the library.
He had heard the intruder land on the roof, and his footsteps clearly revealed where his destination was. Kona ran across the room, this was almost nothing. Being half-immortal made his job easier. He was smarter, stronger, faster, and more everything else than a actual immortal. He crossed the room in seconds, and reached the balcony right when the intruder was about to jump.
Kona got on top of him, and grabbed his shirt, or coat, or whatever he was wearing. Konahomaru couldnt tell yet. He yanked hard, in an attempt to pull him to the ground and away from the balcony back into the library where he could tie up the intruder. If that failed, he would have to... incapacitate the intruder.
What was incapacitation? Well, if he was on the ground scrambling away, it ment pinning one of his legs to the floor with his sword. Or, perhaps, sticking his katana through his shoulder. Jamming his shoulder, making it impossible to move his arm. And if he tried? Well, he would never use his arm again. It didnt matter to Kona. As long as it stopped the criminal, and if he did try to use his arm, he wasnt going to use it for crime.

Halfway through a leap the figure was suddnely jerk backwards, snared by the same black cloak that concealed himself. He hit the floor hard, the smooth flagstones giving no mercy to his spine.
Looking up, his eyes widened at the sight of a blade coming down for a stab. Rolling quickly to the side, it buried itself harmlessly into the stone, cloak pinned with it. A seconds work realesed the cloth, leaving it to flutter to the floor.
The figure was now uncovered, revealed to be a slender Half-Drow, wearing a black, sleeveless vest and black leggings. A scimitar was strapped to his back, along with a bow and quivver of arrows. Two Deep red eyes peered at the guard intensely, half obsucured by his black hair. An ash Grey hand nearly reached for his blade, but stopped, knowing that this foe exceded himself in sword work.
Standing tall, the Half-Drow watched the Human for a few seconds, peering over the black scarf blocking his identity. The area that they were in was darkly lit, the few torches usually lighting it having burnt down. Cloak of Darkness. The thief mealted into blackness.
Nariwa Kona - September 20, 2005 02:42 PM (GMT)
The intruder barely slipped away again, and this time disapeared into the dark like a shadow. "Cloak of Darkness" he said, almost compulsively. Somehow he knew what it was, although he had only seen it and never heard the name. It was connected to the evil that he had felt for the past few weeks. He quickly shook his head from the thought and focused on the chase at hand.
Claok of Darkness only worked in the dark. Konahomaru would fix that. He held up both hands this time, and charged the light spell. Quickly the room filled up with white light, and revealed the intruder standing in front of him.
Kona took his lightning blade and without hesitation stabbed at the intruder, going right for his shoulder. If he missed, he would hit his heart and kill him. Either that or just scrap his shoulder. Either way, he would get the intruder eventally. Kona always did. Only two people had ever escape from him in his life. Well, 3 counting the mage.
Stirling - September 20, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
The light stung the Half-Drow's eyes, being very intense. The thief was again uncovered, his shape recognisable in the light, but completely black, save for two red orbs. The spell was still trying to hide him.
Before he knew it, the guard's blade was stabbing at him. Turning lsightly on the side, it missed the shoulder, but sliced along his bicep. Grunting at the wound, the Thief ducked backwards, heading for a staircase downwards.
But the guard was faster. With almost unnatural speed, the way down was blocked. Stepping sideways, the Half-Drow tried to take a catwalk along the same level. Blocked again, this time by the sword swinging down in front of him. Wheeling about, there was only one way to go now. Up.
Dashing up a small flight of stairs, the Guard gave a quick persuit. No doubt this way too would have been blocked, had it not ben for the sword sticking into the stone.
Slowly the Thief received a little ground, going quicker then the beefy fighter up the stairs. They were up at least five floors now, quickly ascending to greater hights. Throwing a look behind him, the Half-Drow saw his persuer back a little.
Knowing that they couldn't keep running upwards, he turned around and unsheathed his scimitar. Standing atop the last flight of stairs, the intruder braced himself, ready for a fight. If anything, he was going to topple this guard back to earth.
Nariwa Kona - September 22, 2005 03:30 PM (GMT)
Kona chased after the intruder like a ravenous wolf, making every attack were every opprotunity prevented itself. The intruder manage to get to the top of the stairs, and Kona didnt stopp running. He drew his katana in a big slashing motion, headed straight for the criminals body.
He would either get cut down, or have to get down. And when that happened there was a nice shock in store for him. Kona had activate the shock enchantment on his lightning blade, and psarks curled around it, and his hands. They glowed with a small yellow white light, eager to press into an enemy.
"This is your last chance to surrender." Konahomaru said. "After this, I will go for lethal hits." he continued to warn.
(SHORT POST! AAGGHH! Sorry, Stirling knows about the situation if any admin is reading this. :( )
Stirling - September 22, 2005 11:53 PM (GMT)
The Half-Drow's eyes narrowed into Blood red slits, glaring at the Guard. He wouldn't give up, not until he had claimed his prize that waited below. Drawing his dagger as well and letting the Human attack first, the Half-Drow tried to appraise his foe.
The first blow from the Lightning Blade was stopped by the Scimitar, but the attack jarred the Thief's arm. The second came from the katana, which was only just delfected in time to avoid his neck by the dagger.
Taking a few steps backwards to get some room, the Thief gave huimself an idea of what he was up against. This Guard was a proffesional, and seemed to have magic enhancing his weaponry as well.
The Half-Drow wasn't the greatest in swordplay, but he didn't need to be. Raising his scimitar and holding the long dagger to stab, he launched forwards into his foe.
Nariwa Kona - September 26, 2005 03:00 PM (GMT)
Kona saw the intruder take a step back, and then charge at him again. "Bad idea" he said. He raised his Lightning Blade as if he were going to parry the criminals attack, but that would be foolish. all parry's required a back-step, and Kona was on stairs. That would only give him a disadvantage.
So, Kona did what he did best. He got down to earth. Right when the intruder was about to collide with him, Kona ducked down and activated his Sheild of Faith spell.
If he did it right, the intruder would collide into Konas shield, flip over or slide over him, and fall down the stairs. Nbody but another celestial would be able to recover from that big of a fall from that big of a stair way within a few seconds. It would give Konahomaru ample time to work out his punishment for the criminal.
He would leave a scar on this man that he would remeber forver, one that anybody could see as plain as day. He would be cursed with it forever, and everyone would see him for what he really was. A pathetic criminal.
Stirling - September 26, 2005 09:55 PM (GMT)
The Thief saw the sheild, and with widening eyes he knew it was to late to avoid it. It was with full speed that he crashed into it, getting oosed head of foot down the stairs. He landed about halfway down, thumping and roilling down the hards stone. At the bottom he rolled out, hitting the wall beneath a window with a dull thump.
Groaing he looked up, seeing to his dismay that the Guard was coming down the stairs, and to his greater dismay that his scimitar had dropped out of his hand a little way up the stairs. The dagger was still in his left hand, but that would be useless.
Knowing that his life depended on it, the Half-Drow forced a large amount of willpower to stand shakily, and a lot more to begin slowly and painfully towards the stairs and his weapon. If there was any chance of survival, it would rely on that three foot piece of stell laying on the stone.
Nariwa Kona - September 27, 2005 02:59 PM (GMT)
Konahomaru rushed down the stiars, satisfied with the crunching and bumping noises the intruder made when he tumbled to his demise. Quickly, he took them two steps at a time. He could hear the criminal groan, and when he reached the end of the steps he saw the mans scimitar.
Kona looked up and saw that the man was desperately trying to rach it. Kona smiled, and kicked it so hard if flew past the man and crashed out a window. The glass exploded all over the street and the scmitar could be heard landing on the street. "Tink tink tink."
Kona did not waste time relishing he had just taken the mans most effective weapon away from him. Immdediatly he was upon him, and saw the man weakly raise his dagger in defense. Without heed or hesitiation, Kona swiped his blade at the dagger in an attempt to knock it out of the weak mans hand. After that, he would restrain him and give him the mark of shame, and throw him out of the city.
Stirling - September 27, 2005 10:02 PM (GMT)
It disturbed the Half-Drow that his only good weapon was now laying some distance below him, embedded into the streets below. All he had left was a long dagger and a useless bow, and the Thief still hadn't recovered from his fall, to make matters worse. Never the less, he still raised the dagger for a fight. And it was beaten out of his hand, clattering over the stone railings to the floor far below.
The red orbs narrowed again into slits and the sharp whoite teeth bared themselves from his mouth, trying to a least look a little fearsome. Mustering what would be the remains of his strength, the Half-Drow clenched both hands and leap forward, trying to strike the Guard. No such luck. A strong hand thrust him back into a wall. There was a hum in the air and the Thief cried out form the sharp shooting pain issuing over his right eye.
An Ash-Grey hand clenched over the orb, stemming the blood issuing form the verticle wound. Looking down, he saw the katana, tip crimson in his blood. There would be no chance of fight now. But he would at least deny the Guard his prize. Stepping backwards and to the side, he scrambled upright onto the window ledge, broken from the exit that his blade had just made. Oh how the Thief enjoyed the look of surprise in the Gurad's face, as he stepped backwards onto nothing, sliping down into the darkness.
